Mahindra has been working on the all-new 2020 XUV500 crossover for a while now. The 7 seat, 2020 Mahindra XUV500 has been once again spotted testing, and this time around, the spy video shows the upcoming luxury crossover inside-out. Taking cue from this spy video, CarToq’s ace rendering artist Vipin Vathoopan has put together a speculative render showing what the production version of the all-new, 2020 Mahindra XUV500 could look like. Check it out.

2020 Xuv500 Render 1

As the render of the 2020 XUV500’s front end indicates, the new SUV is likely to be an evolution of the current version rather than a revolution in design terms. The front end has similarities with the recently launched XUV300, a much smaller but classier looking compact SUV. Gone are the typical garish Mahindra design flourishes at the front, which now looks a lot more subtler, and if we may add, classier.

The grille, bumper, LED DRLs, headlamps and the bonnet are all new items, and come together nicely to give the 2020 XUV500 a butch yet classy stance up front. Meanwhile, do check out the spy video of the 2020 XUV500 that we’ve lined up right below.

The alloy wheels of the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 get a revised design, and so do the roofline and window line. The current XUV500 gets a prominent kink behind the C-pillar, which is now a lot more subtler in the 2020 version. The all-new, 2nd generation Mahindra XUV500 is also likely to grow in size, becoming more comfortable for 7 adults, who will continue to have access to a 3 row seating layout on the inside.

The overall stance of the new XUV500 is more squat, and the SUV looks more planted than the first generation model. It’ll be interesting to see if the monocoque bodied SUV becomes a better handler as well. Better ride quality is also something that a lot of XUV500 owners would want. Expect Mahindra to stuff the new XUV500 with a big list of features and creature comforts, and a sharp price tag could also be in the offing given the steep increase in competition.

In terms of mechanicals, the 2.2 liter mHawk turbocharged diesel engine of the current XUV500 will make way for a downsized, 2 liter BS6 compliant diesel engine on the all-new XUV500. This engine could make its debut on the current XUV500 in early 2020. The new XUV500 will also get a 2 liter turbocharged diesel engine. 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes are likely to be offered with both the engines.

An all wheel drive layout will be offered on the top-end trims. The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 is also likely to make significant advances in terms of safety. More airbags and safety aids are likely. The 2020 XUV500’s platform will form the basis of a new Ford C-Segment SUV, which could make its debut in 2021-22. The all-new XUV500 will be launched in India next year, and a teaser/concept could be shown at the Auto Expo in early February 2020.
