With the increased buying power, the number of exotic vehicles in India has increased rapidly in recent times. In fact, the newly launched Lamborghini Urus, which is the first modern-day Lamborghini SUV became one of the quickest selling high-end luxury vehicles in the Indian market. Cops now keep a close eye on such vehicles and in the past, many high-end luxury cars and sports cars have been caught and seized for various reasons. The latest crackdown comes from Karnataka where three Lamborghini vehicles were seized by the cops.
The incident happened near Attibele in Karnataka. Three new Lamborghini cars, which reportedly belong to a dealership were seized. As per the report, the vehicles belong to Hoysala Lamborghini in Bengaluru. The vehicles were seized after the cops stopped the vehicles for regular checking. None of the three vehicles had paid the road tax and all the vehicles were seized at the spot.
There video shows that the vehicle had only temporary registration numbers. It is not known if the vehicles were sold to the customers or were dealership vehicles. The temporary registration suggests that all the three vehicles were in an almost brand-new state. There was a Lamborghini Huracan, which was seized from the spot while two brand-new Lamborghini Urus SUVs were also seized.
From the stickers on the vehicles, it seems like that these vehicles were the part of the Bangalore – Ooty drive for Lamborghini GIRO. The event saw the participation of Lamborghini vehicle owners from different parts of the country. There are numerous videos of the convoy of Lamborghini vehicles passing through the roads while cops in uniform making videos and taking pictures of the vehicles. It is not known how much tax do they vehicle owners will have to pay to get the vehicle back from the RTO. As of now, all three vehicles are parked at RTO.
It is not the first time that a luxury vehicle has been seized due to the non-payment of the road tax. It should be noted that road tax can run into lakhs of rupees and Karnataka levies one of the highest percentage of road tax in the country. In the past, the RTO and police officers have conducted drives to catch vehicles that are not registered in Karnataka. There are many who get their vehicles registered from other states to save tax and use the vehicles on the city roads.
The Lamborghini Huracan caught by the cops costs a minimum of Rs 4.7 crore, on road. The Lamborghini Urus SUV costs around Rs 3.7 crores, on-road. This takes the total value of the seized vehicles to around Rs 12 crores! This is one of the biggest seizes by the RTO in recent times.
