Bajaj Dominar gets royally STUCK while Royal Enfield Classic 350 chugs on like a BOSS [Video]

Ever since Bajaj launched the Dominar 400 in the Indian market, fanboyism has started surfacing online quite frequently. Bajaj even directly targetted the Royal Enfield brand with the extremely popular “Haathi Mat Paalo” adwhich created quite an uproar in the social media world. Since then, a lot of videos showing the capabilities of both the bikes have come up and here is one more such video.

What is happening here?

The video shows a Bajaj Dominar 400 and a Royal Enfield Classic 350 taking on the same terrain. The video has been taken from a helmet camera from behind and shows how both the bikes tackle the situation. It can be seen that the Bajaj Dominar 400 is struggling quite a bit and has got stuck after reaching a point. The Royal Enfield rider stops for the Bajaj Dominar 400 and then goes past him easily.

The Bajaj Dominar 400’s rear wheel can be seen spinning on the surface as it struggles for traction. Even though the bike has enough power, the wheels struggle to find any traction from the surface that causes the bike to get stuck at that point. On the other hand, the Royal Enfield gets away from that point quite easily.

Interestingly, the Classic 350 is one of the best-selling bikes in the segment. It is powered by a 346cc, air-cooled engine that churns out a maximum power of 19.8 Bhp at 5,250 rpm and a peak torque of 28 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Bajaj Dominar is powered by a much more powerful engine. The 373.2cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine of the Dominar 400 churns out a maximum of 35 Bhp at 8,000 rpm and 35 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine of the Royal Enfield squeezes out the maximum power at a much lower RPM, which helps it in such situations.

Also, the bike’s tyres play a major role while negotiating such situations. The Royal Enfield Classic is using an aftermarket alloy wheel but it is not known if the tyre is stock or has been upgraded. One of the biggest factors in negotiating such situations is the rider himself. The Dominar is much more capable on paper and if a rider utilises its capabilities fully, it can be quite capable. In fact, there are a group of people who have done the Trans-Siberian stretch on the Dominar and are also attempting riding from the North Pole to the South Pole on Bajaj Dominars.

Videos in the past have shown how a Bajaj Dominar rider can go past challenges, while the Royal Enfield gets stuck. The same is true vice-versa. While the motorcycle can provide a platform for the rider, the ultimate control lies with the rider and how he controls the motorcycle to get out of the situation.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has justj appeared in an awareness campaign to ensure that road users do not flout the rules on the roads. The video has been released just a day ahead of India’s Independence Day, which is also when Akshay Kumar’s latest movie, Gold, releases. All the major Indian cities and highways suffer from numerous non-law-abiding road users. Flouting the traffic rules causes thousands of accidents each year, most of which turn out to be fatal ones.

Akshay Kumar has donned a Maharashtra Traffic Police uniform in the awareness campaign. The video shows Akshay Kumar stopping a vehicle going on a no-entry road and then explaining to the driver how it can be unsafe to drive on the wrong side of the road or enter a one-way road. Wrong side driving is a major problem in India. People inside the city limits and even on the highways take the wrong way or one-way roads to save time and distance. Most of the times, it creates huge jams on the roads and on highways, major accidents are caused because of the same.

It is illegal to drive on the wrong way and if caught, the cops can issue a fine to the driver. However, this does not stop the road users from going the wrong way and create chaos. It is always imperative to ensure that everyone follows the traffic rules whenever on the road. Here are a few things that can keep you safe inside the city and on the highways.

Akshay Kumar 1
Akshay Kumar 1
  1. Always ensure lane-driving, switching lanes quickly can lead to accidents at high speeds and can worsen the traffic jams.
  2. Follow the speed limits. Speed limits are set after assessing the road situation and speeding can lead to accidents.
  3. Always maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you. Use the 3-second rule to maintain a gap to avoid bumping into the car in front.
  4. Never overload a vehicle. The tyres can burst and the car can go out of control. Also, the braking distance increases with extra load.
  5. Slow down whenever crossing populated areas on the highways, the number of pedestrians increases on such stretches and driving at high speeds can be dangerous.

Loveratri actors Aayush Sharma & Warina Hussain BUSTED by Gujarat Police for riding without helmets

The actors playing the lead roles in Salman Khan’s latest venture into production, Loveratri, have been fined by the Gujarat Police after they rode around on a scooter in Vadodara without a helmet protecting their heads. However, the fine issued by the Gujarat police is a measly Rs 100 each.

Loveraatri Fine
via SkFilms Twitter

The helmetless riding incident occurred yesterday, August 13, 2018, in the large Gujarati city, where a considerable part of the film was shot. To promote their new movie, Aayush Sharma (Salman’s brother-in-law) and Warina Hussain, the duo playing the lead roles in the upcoming flick set to release on October 5, 2018, rode around from the airport to Sursagar lake, a distance of over five and a half kilometres, on a scooter to recreate one of the scenes shot for the movie. Unfortunately for the duo, they decided to forego the safety of helmets as they rode with fans across the city of Vadodara on a brown Honda Activa scooter.

After various posts on social media started popping up on social media hotspots after the start of the ride at 5 p.m. regarding the duo’s disregard for the traffic rules and their own safety and police inaction against the same, the Vadodara traffic police swung into action issuing memos and fines to both actors.

This is not the first time that a celebrity has been caught by the traffic cops on Twitter for riding without a helmet or for not following general traffic rules. Actor Varun Dhawan was fined by the Mumbai Police for hanging out of his car and taking a selfie with a fan seated in an auto right next to his vehicle on the road. Mumbai’s finest fined the actor and warned him that if he was caught again, they would take harsher action against him. Dhawan apologised to the cops but claimed that the vehicle was not moving and he didn’t want to hurt the sentiments of the fan.

Mumbai’s white and khaki brigade struck again in March 2018. Actor Kunal Khemu had posted a tweet apologizing after he was caught by a Bollywood tracking entertainment website riding his Ducati Monster without wearing a helmet on the streets of Mumbai. Two days later, after the twitteratti pointed them towards the actor, the twitter handle of the Mumbai police, which is known for its sense of humour, sent an e-challan to Khemu, fining him Rs 500 for riding without a helmet.

Bajaj Avenger wants you to have an environment friendly Independence Day [Video]

Every year around the Independence Day, the sales of Indian national flag rises by a great deal. A number of vehicles put up the flag to show their patriotism towards the nation. However, most of these flags are made up of plastic and after the Independence Day, people throw away such flags creating a huge pile of garbage. Bajaj has tried to raise the issue with a campaign with the Bajaj Avenger.

The advertisement shows the rider on the Bajaj Avenger on the hilly roads on India and after he stops for a traffic signal, a flag seller comes to put up a flag on his bike. The rider takes off the flag and gives it back to the seller. Later, the video shows a hawker selling flags to the school children travelling in a bus. Later, the rider can be seen cleaning an area that is filled with the plastic flags in the mountains. The whole video has the patriotic song “Saare Jahan se acha, Hindustan humara” in the background.

It is a true incident that occurs every year in India. Tonnes of plastic waste is generated because of such plastic flags that can be seen on almost all the traffic signals. Most car owners use the flag on their vehicles to get a sense of patriotism but then throw it away after the Independence Day gets over. The plastic can be extremely harmful to the environment if not properly disposed of.

To overcome this problem, people can use cloth flags. Yes, they are expensive but they can be re-used for a few years. To stop the widespread popularity of such plastic flags, one should stop buying them completely. Once the demand stops, the supply will take a hit for sure. Also, the government should take steps to curb the plastic flags in India to bring down the amount of waste.

Bajaj Avenger has been using the tagline “Feel Like God” and the video comes to an end after showing the tagline. It sure feels good to do something good for the environment and protect it from such celebrations.

Happy Independence Day.

On this day, on the as the first moments of 15th August 1947 drew near, Jawaharlal Nehru uttered those well-remembered words, “At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom,” as part of his famous Tryst with Destiny Speech that took India from being a colony of the British to an independent nation.

As PM Modi, makes his way to the Red Fort to give the speech once again this 15th of August, we at Cartoq take a look at the vehicles that have transported our Prime Ministers and the head of state, the President to these historic parades over the years.

The Early Years

The Presidential Car – Cadillac Country

Rajendra Prasad In The Cadillac

While India gained freedom in 1947, it took nearly 3 more years for the nation to adopt a constitution. WIth adoption of the constitution, the Governor General was replaced by the President, with Rajendra Prasad becoming the first person to take control of the Presidential Palace of the Republic of India. The President’s ride of choice was a convertible Cadillac. Many more cars from the American carmaker have been seen as part of the Prez’s cavalcade over the years. However, like almost everywhere else, even the hallowed grounds of the President’s palace were taken over by the humble Hindustan Ambassador.

The Prime Minister’s car – Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith

Rolls Royce Silver Wraith

Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first PM, was known to travel in various American and British car marques as he traversed the nation before and after independence. However, the best-known car he used was a Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith. The story behind the Wraith is a fascinating one, as it was gifted to Nehru for use as the state car by Lord Mountbatten. The Roller was a gift by the English monarch to Mountbatten, the last British governor-general of India.

However, Jawahar Lal Nehru’s socialistic approach to the economy saw cars become more of an expensive and soon became a commodity than a necessity and nearly kicked the car scene in India back into the stone age.

The 80’s Wild Child

Rajiv Gandhi In His Maruti 1000

While the Ambassador became the neta car for the bureaucrat in the 1980s, Rajiv Gandhi’s love of fast cars, saw him driving a Maruti 1000 (later called the Esteem). He was later seen being driven to Parliament in his Range Rover Vogue, which was given to him as a gift by the King of Jordan.

Modern Era

The 1990s saw India open up its borders to global brands, saw the President and PM’s cars that saw them return to India. However, with Nehru’s India a thing of the past, cars have undergone a rather Teutonic change with robust design and features involved.

The President’s Cars – The Armoured Three-Pointer

Shankar Dayal Sharma, K.R. Narayanan & APJ Abdul Kalam – W124 Mercedes S-Class

Shankar-Dayal-Sharma-with-his-Mercedes-Benz-Limo

President Shankar Dayal Sharma was the first President to make use of the armoured S-Class limousine. The President’s car was a W140 S-class, best known for its reliability and exemplary build quality.

This W140’s reliability saw it being passed onto the next two presidents, KR Narayanan and APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s rocket man.

Pratibha Patil, Pranab Mukherjee & Ramnath Kovind – W221 Mercedes S600 Pullman Guard

Pratibha Patil Mercedes S Class

When Pratibha Patil became the first female Head of State in India, the Presidential Limousine was given an upgrade to the W221 generation Mercedes S600 Pullman Guard armoured limo.

Kovind S Class Presidential Limo

While exact details about this limo are considered a state secret, its civilian versions can withstand machine gun fire, grenades and bombs. This bombproof armoured Mercedes was also used by Pranab Mukherjee and is currently serving its third President in the form of Ramnath Kovind.

The PM’s car – From Ambassador to the UK’s finest SUV.

Narashima Rao, IK Gujaral, Dewe Gowda – Ambassador

Former Indian Prime Minister Rao Arrives To Appear In Court

When India opened up its borders, the PM was Narashima Rao and this PM retained his ambassador despite being the entry of foreign carmakers into India, Subsequent PMs like IK Gujaral, Dewe Gowda and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The first PM from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee lead the nation through the Kargil conflict with Pakistan. H was forced to ditch the neta Amby for an armoured BMW 7 Series after terrorists attacked Parliament House in 2001.

Succeeding, Mr Vajpayee to the hot seat in the BMW and Parliament was Dr Manmohan Singh. The man who saved the Indian economy from shutting down in the 90s, Dr Singh was the first Indian PM to exclusively use the armoured bomb-proof car.

Narendra Modi – Armoured BMW 7 Series to Armoured Range Rover SUV

Narendra Modi’s official vehicle may just show a PM moving with the times. With an SUV fever, gripping the country, the current PM has ditched the BMW limo for an armoured Range Rover SUV.

Renault Kwid, Duster, Captur & Lodgy available with MASSIVE discounts of up to Rs. 2 lakhs

$

Renault India has lined up a slew of discounts on all its cars sold here. In fact, the French automaker is offering discounts as massive as Rs. 2 lakhs. The Kwid hatchback, the Duster SUV, the Lodgy MPV and the Captur premium SUV are all covered under the discount scheme, which Renault is running in order to boost sales during this year’s festive season. These discounts are countrywide offers, which means that almost all Renault dealers across India will be offering them.

Renault Kwid

Renault launched the 2018 model Kwid last week, and the muscular entry-level hatchback is already selling at a significant discount. The car, which competes with the Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon and Tata Tiago, gets insurance at 50 % of the cost, or a Rs. 10,000 exchange bonus. Customers opting for a car loan get a reduced 7.99 % interest rate, which translates into overall savings of well over Rs. 20,000. These discounts are applicable to only the manual transmission variants of the Renault Kwid.

Renault Duster

Both the 85 PS and 110 PS diesel variants of the Renault Duster are selling at discounts. The 85 PS variant gets a corporate bonus of Rs. 5,000. Discounts on the 110 PS diesel variants are a lot more. There’s a cash discount of Rs. 30,000, free insurance worth nearly Rs. 50,000, and a corporate discount of Rs. 5,000. In total, discounts on the Duster 110 PS amount to nearly Rs. 85,000, which is quite sizable indeed.

Renault Captur

The Captur has been a slow-seller for Renault, and the automaker’s dealers are stuck with 2017 model versions of the premium SUV for many months. The 2017 year variants of the Renault Captur are now selling at discounts of Rs. 2 lakhs, which makes the SUV a very compelling buy for those who’re willing to take the slight hit on the resale value a car lying at the stockyard for many months is likely to experience.

Renault Lodgy

Another slow-selling vehicle in Renault’s Indian line-up, the Lodgy MPV is now selling at decent discounts amounting to as much as 52,000. The Renault Lodgy Stepway variant is getting a Rs. 1 insurance scheme (original price of insurance is Rs. 47,630) and a corporate bonus of Rs. 5,000. The regular variants of the Renault Lodgy get a Rs. 5,000 corporate discount.

Mahindra to stop launching all-new cars between April 2019-April 2010

$
0
0

Mahindra will launch 3 all-new vehicles in the next 8 months and after that will take a long break from new car launches in India. The pause in the all-new car launches from Mahindra is expected to last a full year, from March 2019 to April 2020. This is because the Indian utility vehicle giant is gearing up for Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms, which come into effect from April 2020.

Render courtesy IAB

The BS6 norms are a lot stricter than the current Bharat Stage 4 (BS4) emission norms, and require car manufacturers to fit expensive emission control equipment, particularly on diesel-engined cars. The BS6 norms are likely to result in a steep increase in prices of diesel cars. Mahindra, whose car portfolio in India is mainly composed of diesel-powered cars, is likely to face the heat of the increasing prices due to the BS6 norms kicking in next year.

Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, said this,

In terms of brand new products or brand new platforms after these three launches (U321, S201 and G4 Rexton) there will be nothing for the rest of the next calendar year. We will have a couple of refreshes during the calendar year 2019. Our new platform launches will start from 2020 which could be a full model replacement or a new model.

Notably, Mahindra will not be the only automaker in India to go slow on all-new car launches in 2019. Many other automakers are also expected to slow down all-new car launches or pause them for a full year until April 2020. With that, 2019 could be quite a dry year for car launches. For now, the 3 big all-new cars to look forward to from Mahindra are the U321 MPV (launching in October 2018), the XUV700 luxury SUV (launching in December 2018) and the S201 code-named sub-4 meter compact SUV (launching before March 2019).

TVS Apache RR310 sportsbike sales fall to less than half the original target

$

0

TVS Motors is grappling with poor demand for its flagship motorcycle – the Apache RR 310. In July 2018, TVS Motors shipped out only 351 units of the Apache RR 310, a big slump from the 983 units it shipped out during March 2018. The steep fall in demand means that TVS Motors has been selling only 416 units of the Apache RR 310 on an average each month.

This is nearly half of the targeted monthly sales for the TVS Apache RR310, at 833 units. TVS Motors hoped to sell 10,000 units of the flagship motorcycle in the first year of production. This target now seems very ambitious now considering the fact that TVS will have to sell nearly 1,433 monthly units of the Apache for the next 4 months to get there.

The TVS Apache RR310 is now priced at Rs. 2.23 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi, which is an 8 percent increase from the price at which the motorcycle was launched. Competition for the TVS Apache RR310 comes from the KTM RC390, which offers a much better value proposition, although it’s priced about Rs. 13,000 higher. The Apache RR310, which features technology from BMW Motorrad,

The motorcycle uses a 311cc, reverse inclined four stroke engine sourced from BMW Motorrad but built in India by TVS Motors. This single cylinder, liquid cooled motor makes 34 Bhp-28 Nm. Fuel injection, a four valve head and twin overhead camshafts are standard on this motor. A 6 speed manual gearbox accompanies this engine. The fully faired TVS Apache RR310 gets a full fairing, gorgeous styling, upside down front forks, a rear monoshock and a sporty riding position. Here is our video review of the bike:

In contrast, the KTM RC390, which is priced at Rs. 2.36 lakhs, offers a 373cc four stroke single cylinder engine with 43 Bhp-35 Nm on tap. A slipper clutch is also offered on the RC390, which gets a more extreme riding position suited more for the track than the road. In terms of outright performance, the KTM RC390 is capable of beating TVS Apache RR310 easily. Apart from looks and comfort, the TVS Apache RR310 falls short of the KTM RC390 in many aspects and this could be a reason why the sales are falling.

10 modified hatchbacks from DC Design: Maruti Swift to Hyundai i20

DC Design is one of the most popular car customisation houses in India. The modification house is loved by many, while it has been criticised too for some of its outrageous designs. Over its years of existence, DC Design has modified many different cars. Here are ten hatchbacks that have been designed by the mod house.

Maruti Swift

The Maruti Swift has gained a cult status in India. The hatchback is currently in its third generation and is one of the top-selling cars in the country. DC Design modified a last-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift and it looks quite different from the stock one. Modifications include an LED DRL at the front, a new air dam grille and a radiator grille. At the rear, the hatchback gets a new bumper insert. Interiors have been given a fresh look too with a new red theme.

Volkswagen Polo

The Volkswagen Polo is loved by the enthusiasts for its precise steering feedback and build quality. The evergreen design of the Polo has been altered with stronger wheel arches, a new bumper with a contrasting highlight and a set of new headlamps. The body has been altered for a three-door set-up. It now looks more menacing on the road with bigger and wider tyres.

Hyundai i20

The Hyundai i20 is a popular car around the world. This modification job has been done on the previous generation i20 that came with the Fluidic design. The vehicle now sports a larger front grille with a contrasting red boundary. It also gets red accents on the bumper that goes with the grille. The red highlights continue to be seen around the fog lamps too.

Tata Nano

The Nano remains one of the most underrated cars in the market. DC has modified the humble looking Nano into a wild car. It gets huge air dams on the sides that can look awkward even on the sportscars. The front gets a large grille with aerodynamic flaps. It also gets a dual body colour, giving it a very racy look.

Hyundai Santro

The Hyundai Santro marked the arrival of the Korean brand in India. While Hyundai is preparing to re-launch the product in the market, there are still many Santro cars that can be seen on the roads. DC Design has modified a Santro to look completely different. It gets a coupe look now and gets a two-door set-up. It even loses its identity with an all-new front-end that consists of a new plastic grille and sleeker headlamps.

Mahindra Reva

The Reva is known as the first electric car that was commercially available in the Indian market. Even though it was an odd-looking vehicle, DC Design has transformed it into a space pod. The two-seater hatchback now gets a completely new design with an Audi R18 sportscar-inspired headlamp. The tyres get full covers with faux drive shaft design plates. It would be a dream of many 5th graders!

Tata Indica

Tata Indica holds a special space in the history of the Indian car market, as it was the first passenger car from the automotive giant in India. The modification job on the Indica includes a new grille and new projector headlamps. The vehicle has been given a green-yellow paint job. At the rear, the vehicle now gets a new tail lamp unit with no cover.

Maruti WagonR

The Maruti WagonR has remained as one of the favourite hatchbacks for the families in India. The spacious car is the first choice of many and even after years, the design of the vehicle has remained the same. This WagonR gets a crossover look with a thick plastic cladding all around. The cladding can be seen at the front too. The headlamp has been replaced with a new multi-lamp unit and the main headlamp is placed near the bumper now.

Maruti WagonR pickup

DC Design has made another version of the WagonR. It becomes a pick-up truck now and gets a new moniker called Devago. The vehicle is built on the WagonR’s chassis and the whole body has been fabricated from scratch. The bright yellow colour attracts even more attention than the body-style. The spacious WagonR becomes a two-seater in the DC’s pick-up truck form.

Maruti 800

The Maruti 800 was India’s first mega-successful vehicle. It now becomes B.T.S. after going under DC’s knife and stitches. The chassis of the 800 has been used to fit a newly fabricated body. The B.T.S. is now a two-seater coupe-styled vehicle with modern design. The flared wheel arches and faux rear air dams give it a sporty look, while the modern projector headlamps add functionality to the vehicle.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross doing donuts is FUN with a capital F [Video]

$

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross has become a popular vehicle in the segment. It is the most successful lifestyle pick-up truck on the market and has quickly gained popularity. There are many videos that show the D-Max V-Cross doing hardcore off-roading. Here is a video that shows the pick-up truck having fun off the tarmac.

What is happening here?

The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross comes with the 4X4 system as standard. However, it can be disengaged when not required to keep the fuel efficiency high. The video shows the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross doing doughnuts and power sliding in the mud. Putting the V-Cross in 2WD mode makes it an RWD vehicle, which can be quite fun to drive. The video shows the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross doing the stunts on a slippery surface that makes it easier to slide and have fun.

By modulating the accelerator pedal and keeping the steering wheel in the right direction, the rear wheels start to spin, however, keeping the slide going on for a long time needs practice and control. There are many professional drivers who make a career pulling off insane stunts and drifting the vehicle over long distances. The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a maximum power of 134 Bhp at 3,600 and 320 Nm between 1,800 – 2,800 rpm. The vehicle is quite heavy and weighs around 1,800 kg making the slides much more difficult to control.

Whenever practising such stunts, a controlled private area should be chosen. If the vehicle somehow goes out of control, the damage can be controlled quite a bit and also other people are out of danger. Also, doing such stunts on public roads is illegal and you can be fined. It is a good idea to have someone outside the vehicle in case the vehicle gets involved in an accident and help is needed.

V Cross 1

The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross also gets a long list of safety features, including ABS with EBD and Brake Assist. It also gets dual front airbags and ISOFIX hooks for child seats. The automatic variant of the vehicle also gets cruise control, electronic stability control (ESC) and traction control.

Hero MotoCorp & Ducati to take on Bajaj-KTM & TVS-BMW Motorrad with a 300cc sportsbike?

$

Hero MotoCorp could be the latest among Indian two-wheeler giants to tie up with a global sportsbike maker. There’s talk of a small capacity, 300cc Ducati sportsbike and Hero MotoCorp is likely to be the local partner that the Italian sportsbike maker is expected to approach. This is because the other leading Indian two wheeler giants such as Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors are already in similar tie-ups.

Hero HX 250R used as an illustration

In this set-up, Hero MotoCorp will bring its low cost, high quality manufacturing set-up to the fore, and the company’s factories in India could serve as a global production hub for the new, 300cc entry level Ducati sportsbike. In exchange, Ducati is likely to provide cutting edge technology and its MotoGP honed engineering expertise for the new motorcycle platform.

As is the case with Bajaj-KTM and TVS-BMW Motorrad, the new 300cc entry level sportsbike platform from Hero Ducati could result in both Hero MotoCorp and Ducati branding, selling and servicing their motorcycles through separate outlets. What we’re likely to see is both Hero and Ducati branded, 300cc premium motorcycles. More details about this tie-up is likely to surface in the coming days.

Hero MotoCorp is the world’s largest two wheeler maker, even bigger than Honda. However, the two-wheeler giant has been mainly focusing on commuter segments, with little or no presence in the premium bike space. A tie-up with Ducati will open up Hero MotoCorp’s horizons and help it get a foothold in the high margin premium motorcycle space. For Ducati, a tie-up with Hero will open up one of the world’s largest two-wheeler market and also give it very attractive cost savings for motorcycle manufacturing.

KTM has tied up with Bajaj, and produces all of its small capacity sub-400cc bikes such as the Duke 125, 200, 250 and 390 in India. The same is the case with the KTM RC 125, 200, 250 and 390. In exchange, Bajaj has received the engine platform for the Pulsar NS200 and Dominar range of motorcycles. TVS builds the BMW Motorrad G 310R and G 310GS motorcycles in India, and has received technology for use in the Apache RR310. As is evident, such tie-ups are win-win for both parties.

Mahindra’s biggest launch for 2018 will be an all-new monocoque MPV called the Marazzo. The Mahindra Marazzo will be a premium MPV sold in 7 seat and 8 seat layouts. Developed as a global vehicle by Mahindra’s North American research and development arm, the Marazzo MPV will be launched in India sometime in October. The MPV will be priced in between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta but is likely to be as large as the latter. This aspect will ensure that the Mahindra Marazzo gets to play the value-for-money card. Meanwhile, here is a new video that fully reveals the interiors of the MPV.

As revealed by the video, the Mahindra Marazzo MPV will get beige interiors with a black and brown dashboard. Richly apppointed, the cabin of the MPV is expected to offer leather seats on the top-end variants, with four captain seats with individual armrests.

The 8 seat variant will have a three seat bench layout on the middle row. Another  interesting feature on the Mahindra Marazzo’s interiors is the roof mounted air conditioner for all passengers. This  is expected to cool/warm the cabin of the MPV evenly, keeping all occupants comfortable. The dashboard also gets an  integrated gear shift lever.

The Mahindra MPV will be launched with a new 1.6 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, and a front wheel drive layout. The platform will be ready to support an all wheel drive layout as well but it’s unclear if Mahindra will  offer an all wheel drive layout in the Indian market. As for size, the Marazzo will have the largest footprint of a Mahindra car in India, and is expected to be very spacious on the inside. Plans are afoot to sell it from a more  premium space in Mahindra dealerships. More details on the MPV are likely to surface in the coming weeks, in the run up to launch.

6 upcoming Hyundai Creta challengers: 7 seat Mahindra S201 to Tata Harrier

$
0
0

The Hyundai Creta has been the best-selling compact SUV since almost forever now. The Hyundai Creta enjoys a free run of sorts, with no real rival to challenge its dominance. Come to think of it, the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano are a bit too dated now and the Mahindra XUV500 belongs to a totally different segment. In near future, however, the blockbuster SUV from the Korean auto giant might have to face some stiff competition from as many as 7 all-new SUVs that will have the Creta in the crosshairs. Here are these 7 upcoming Hyundai Creta rivals –

Tata Harrier (H5X)

The Harrier will be the production version of the stunning H5X concept SUV that made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2018. The Harrier, akin to the Creta, will offer five seats and will be a premium offering. While it’s expected to be pricier than the lower model of the Creta, it just might be able to justify a slightly higher price tag through its modern design and a long list of features. The Harrier will be powered by the same Fiat-sourced 2.0-liter Multijet motor that powers the Jeep Compass. Like the Creta, it will offer an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Mahindra S201 (7-seater)

It’s pretty well known that Mahindra and Mahindra is close to launching a Ssangyong Tivoli-based sub-4-meter compact SUV to rival the high-selling Maruti Vitara Brezza. The company is also working on a 7-seater version that will measure more than four-meters and will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta. Safely expect the 7-seater S201 to launch at a very competitive price point and offer modern petrol and diesel engines.

Honda HR-V

Even Honda Cars India is planning to launch an all-new SUV in the compact SUV segment. The upcoming Honda SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta will be the globally acclaimed HR-V. The HR-V will find itself slotted between the BR-V and the CR-V. It will offer a five-seat layout and is likely to get the same 1.5-liter petrol engine that powers the Honda City. The diesel engine will be the same 1.6-liter turbocharged unit that will power the upcoming CR-V SUV.

Kia SP Concept-based SUV

Kia will launch a production-spec version of the SP-Concept SUV that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. The company is very close to finalizing the market name of its upcoming SUV. The SP Concept-based SUV will be costlier than the Creta but will try to attract potential buyers of the top-end Creta through its more modern design and a longer list of features. Underpinning the upcoming Kia SUV will be the same platform that will be used in the next-gen Creta in a few years from now.

MG SUV

MG Motors India will launch a Baojun 530-based SUV in the second-quarter of 2019. The India-bound SUV won’t be exactly like the China-spec Baojun 530 and will instead carry a handful of changes. Like many other SUVs in the list, it will be pricier than the lower variants of the Creta. Powering the upcoming MG SUV will be the same 2.0-liter Multijet II diesel engine that powers the Jeep Compass. This is the same engine that will also power the Tata Harrier. MG Motors India will use as much as 80% localized content in the production of this SUV. This will help the company price its upcoming Hyundai Creta rival aggressively.

Peugeot 3008

Peugeot will launch the 3008 to rival the Hyundai Creta as well as the Mahindra XUV500. The SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine abroad. Details of the India-spec model aren’t available at the moment. However, it’s very likely that there will be a price overlap between the higher trims of the Hyundai Creta and this upcoming SUV.

Mukesh Ambani’s multi-crore convoy on VIDEO: Bentley Bentayga, Mercedes S-Class & police escort SUVs

Mukesh Ambani is the richest man in India and among the world’s most powerful businessman. A man of such great stature also deserves an equally respectable convoy of cars to keep him safe, and help him arrive in style. His garage is full of exotic supercars and sports cars. He is also one of the most important figures in India that’s why he is awarded a Z+ security. Here is a video showing his true style and stature.

The Convoy

Recently Mukesh Ambani’s convoy was caught on tape. It was a grand spectacle in itself. His fleet consisted of BMW X5, which had CRPF stickers on them, it also had roof mounted flashers and police stickers on its doors. Behind the BMW X5 is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard, which is a bulletproof vehicle.

Behind it is another X5, which is followed by a green coloured Bentley Bentayga. Behind the Bentley is a Porsche Cayenne which is also followed by two Ford Endeavours, equipped with stickers and flashers. There is one more video online which features the same fleet with a different formation.

Why is the convoy special?

Such cars are the very high end and are rarely seen travelling together. The possibility of the family moving together is strong but they must be in separate vehicles due to safety issues. The special thing about the convoy is the use of BMW, not as the main car but as an escort car. Mukesh Ambani’s convoy is no less than that of a prime minister.

While the former’s security is provided by the SPG (Special protection group), the former’s security is handled by the CRPF. All cars in the convoy belong not to the government but to the Reliance Industries. Mukesh Ambani may have upgraded the vehicles of all his security so they can keep up with his sports car, which is a really good move on his side.

The Mercedes Benz S-Guard looks like a normal Mercedes S-class, to hide the fact that it is heavily reinforced and well protected from the inside. It gets a discreet weight increment and body modification to make it safe for the rich and powerful. The armour of the car is safe against military grade weapons and it also gets its own fire extinguishers systems and run-flat tyres which can run for 80 km/h with no air in them. Mr Ambani also uses the same BMW 7-series high-security armoured vehicle, which our Prime minister does. The Mercedes Benz S-Guard costs around Rs 8 Crore.

The Bentley Bentaaygya is one of the fastest SUV’s in the world which costs around Rs 3.85 crores, showroom. It is powered by a 6.0-litre W12 engine which churns out 600 BHP and 900 Nm of torque. It can do 0-100 km/h in under 4.1 seconds. The BMW X-5 costs around Rs 70 lakh and they are powered by a 3.0-litre straight 6-cylinder engine which gets twin-scroll turbo. The engine makes around 258 BHP and 560 Nm of torque. The SUV can do 0-100 in 6.9 seconds. The Ford Endeavour is also a great SUV on its own. It is powered by a 3.2-litre engine that generates 197 BHP of power and 470 Nm of torque. The Scorpio is the fleet is, however, the property of Mumbai police.

Mahindra XUV500 vs Tata Hexa in an off-road challenge: Who wins? [Video]

$

0

The Mahindra XUV500 is one of the best-selling SUVs out there, It has the looks, the performance and the versatility to be a great vehicle. But what happens when it goes head to head against another worthy SUV, the Tata Hexa, off-road? Watch the video below to find out.

It is clear what’s happening here. The XUV500 is more like a soft-core SUV; sure it has a big engine and large wheels, but it lacks some essential off-road features. The Hexa, on the other hand, is able to get itself out of the ditch, in which the XUV got stuck, very easily. Tata markets its SUV as a proper offroader and backs up their claim by equipping the car with proper off-road features such as terrain response system as standard.

It’s all in the hardware

While the XUV500 is AWD, the Hexa XT is 4X4 with a terrain response system. There is a big difference in both of those configurations. The AWD is more tuned towards on-road performance than off-road capabilities. Such a system is responsive on a highway, as it can deliver a massive amount of power to easily munch a lot of miles without stressing itself. The 4X4 is AWD’s wilder cousin, which is at home off the road than on it. 4X4 works well at crawling speeds, delivering a lot of traction.

Hexa Xuv Featured

Different hearts, beat differently

While closely gazing through the spec sheet, the reason for Tata Hexa’s victory becomes even more clear. The Mahindra XUV500 AWD W8, the model specified in the video, has a 2179 cc 4-cylinder mHawk CRDe diesel engine, which makes 140 HP @ 3750 RPM and 330 NM of torque @ 2800 RPM. It is a turbocharged engine, which is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. As mentioned in the video, the model of Tata is Hexa 4X4. It has a similar 2179 cc engine which makes around 153.86 BHP of power but a massive 400 Nm of torque. It even delivers within the RPM range of 1750-2500, way earlier than the XUV500. All of these points coupled with the 4X4 system, makes the Hexa XT, a great off-roader.

Hexa is already a tough SUV

Tata Hexa has done several other difficult feats which make it one of the best SUVs on Indian roads. For example, recently the Tata Hexa rescued a Toyota Innova and a Mahindra Scorpio when they got stuck in Ladakh. The Tata Hexa has also pulled a being 747, as part of its promotional activity. To give you a perspective, the weight of the Boeing 747 is around 33,000 kg, and the SUV was able to pull it for quite a long distance.

The Mahindra XUV500 AWD W8 retails at Rs 16.04 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. It has several models on sale. The 2018 version of the SUV was launched with a total of 10 models, 9 diesel and 1 petrol. It features W5, W7, W9, W11, W11(O) and G. “W” represents diesel variants while “G” stands for the petrol model. The XUV500 has a starting price of Rs 12.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Hexa goes off the showroom floor for a respectable amount of Rs 17.89 lakh. It is also available in a 4X2 version, which makes less power and torque but uses the same engine. It is available for an ex-showroom price of Rs 16.56 lakh.

Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift to get a ‘Speed Alert’ warning system

$

0

An internal document of Maruti Suzuki has just leaked, which indicates a new system that will be available in the facelifted Maruti Ciaz at the time of launch. This new system will feature a speed safety alert function, that will inform the driver if she/he goes above a certain speed. Indian roads are already prone to accidents, and unregulated traffic rules lead to the death of thousands across our country.

Maruti Ciaz Facelift Speed Alert

The new device is a step in the right direction as it will enforce the 80 km/h speed limit, which is the normal speed limit of almost all Indian roads. Whenever the driver crosses the above speed, the alarm will beep twice. In case the driver chooses to go beyond 120 km/h, the alarm will keep beeping continuously. The alarm system will act as a virtual cop and will enforce the speed limit on the driver. This will prevent overspeeding and rash driving by a significant margin.

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will be available in 4 trim variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Along with these features, it will also get dual airbags and ABS as standard across all variants. The engine specs of Ciaz include a new 1.5 litre K15B SHVS petrol engine, churning around 103 Bhp of peak power and 138 Nm of torque. It will also come in a diesel variant which will have a 1.3-litre DDiS 200 turbo SHVS motor. The diesel motor will produce 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque.

ciaz facelift render

The bookings of the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are open at all NEXA showrooms at a price of Rs 11,000. When launched, the Ciaz will go against the Toyota Yaris, Honda city, and Hyundai Verna. As for pricing, the starting price of the facelifted Ciaz will be under Rs. 8 lakhs. The car is just days away from launch, and media drives are all set to commence from next week.

KTM Duke 390 street racing a Hyundai Creta at 170 kmph is INSANITY [VIDEO]

$
0
0

We all love the thrill of speed. It’s what every rider or driver craves for when he sits down to control a powerful machine. But the problem is that with such a powerful machine, one has to have equally powerful self-control. A video doing the rounds on the Internet shows a Hyundai Creta and KTM Duke 390, going head to head on the public roads.

In the video, we can already see that the rider is going way faster than the actual speed limit. Not only is the speed is a bit too much, the lean angle of the bike, is also very high. We can see the rider going past vehicles at blistering speeds until he sees an equally fast Hyundai Creta. The rider speeds up even more and in a bid to come close to the Hyundai Creta, touches almost 170 km/h.

Such speeds are unsafe, on any Indian road. In the first half of the video, the Duke 390 overtakes the Hyundai Creta and the rider slows down after that. In the second half, the Creta passes the bike again at a high speed, which again makes the rider of the KTM dDuke 390 to engage in another dangerous act of speeding. Although he does overtake the Hyundai Creta, the whole event would have turned into a disaster if either of the parties lost even a bit of control.

Exercise in futility

Ktm Duke Creta 180 Kph Featured

The Duke 390 has a 373 cc liquid cooled fuel injected engine. This particular model in the video is an old one which produces almost 44 BHP and 35 Nm of torque. The bike is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6 seconds. Such a type of performance is equivalent to expensive sportscars. The Duke 390 is a pocket monster and is infamous for being involved in several accidents. Although the bike has a dual channel ABS, even it can only do so much, when you’re doing speeds of 170 km/h. The lack of riding gear is another thing which is wrong with the video. The rider is wearing no protective gear on his body. It sends out a negative message to the young riders who are slowly beginning to understand the importance of riding gear.

Equally irresponsible competition

The Hyundai Creta is also not going slow by any means. The SUV is going close to 170 km/h, which is a very dangerous speed for driving, especially in our country. The Hyundai Creta, in its top spec model, makes around 126 BHP of power and 259 Nm of torque. These power figures are more than enough to land you in trouble if you’re not careful while driving. The Creta driver is equally irresponsible and reckless.

In the end, there is no real winner here. The whole video may have gained views on Youtube, but it is counter-productive and teaches irresponsible behaviour. Everyone should always go to the race track for practising their racing skills and never without proper gear.
