Indian two-wheeler giant TVS Motors has launched the Jupiter Grande in India. The TVS Jupiter Grande is priced at Rs 55,936. The disc brake variant of the Jupiter Grande scooter is priced at Rs 59,648 (both prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi). The TVS Jupiter Grande will take on the Honda Activa.

Tvs Jupiter Grande

The TVS Jupiter Grande brings with it a host of cosmetic upgrades including a new Starlight Blue colour and an all-new fully LED headlamp with an integrated LED DRL running at the top.

The Jupiter Grande gets a host of chrome add-ons both up front and at the sides, similar to the ones seen on the Jupiter Classic variant. The rear-view mirrors the front mudguard get chrome highlights as does the exhaust shield for the new scooter. There is also an all-new semi-digital instrument cluster remains with an analogue speedometer and blue backlighting and TVS’ Eco-metre.

The handlebars and the footboards are done up in beige, while the seat is in a contrasting colour and features cross stitching. The grab handles too are chromed out and the Grande sits on black diamond cut alloy wheels, which is a first in the segment.

All the changes to the Jupiter to make it into the Grande are cosmetic only and there are no mechanical upgrades done to the second-best scooter in terms of sales in India.

The 109.7 cc air-cooled single cylinder engine remains untouched. The engine produces 8 Bhp at 7,500 rpm and 8 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm which is sent to the rear wheel via a CVT gearbox. These figures are comparable to those produced by the Honda Activa.

The TVS Jupiter Grande sports 130mm drum brakes on both wheels or in the case of the more premium variant a disc brake on the front wheel. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and a gas charged mono shock at the rear end.

The TVS Jupiter Grande has been launched for the festive season and should help TVS to sell more scooters during the period. The Jupiter is one of India’s best selling automatic scooters, behind the Honda Activa of course. Commenting on this launch, Mr. Aniruddha Haldar, Vice President (Marketing) – Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters & Corporate Brand, TVS Motor Company, said,

TVS Jupiter Grande is the latest in the series of annual special editions that TVS Jupiter brings for its customers. Through its grand features like LED tech headlamp, adjustable shocks, digital-analogue speedometer, diamond cut alloy wheels and the striking Starlight Blue colour, the scooter will strive to be the ‘Grand Irradon ki grand safari’. Each year, we pick a theme in the brand story or bring alive consumer’s life truths. This year, we are celebrating ‘parents’ – each parent has the intent to ensure a grand success of their kids and TVS Jupiter Grande pays homage to this sentiment. This is our humble effort to celebrate and drive grand motivation in our consumer’s lives.

Honda City Diesel gave me 45 KMPL mileage: This is how I did it! [Video]

There is no doubt about the fact that fuel economy remains a priority for most car buyers today across various segments. The recent spike in fuel prices further strengthens this factor and also gave us a reason for this article. With the efficient Honda City diesel in our long-term fleet, we decided to see how much could it deliver when driven with a light right foot. The efficient run left us surprised; check it out for yourself in the video below.

Of course we are not suggesting that you drive the way we did. But it is an indication of how frugal a car can get. The Honda City diesel has a certified economy of 26 kmpl as per ARAI standards and we ended up bettering it by over 70%. We were also lucky enough to get the best driving conditions possible with the empty and smooth Yamuna Expressway at our disposal. In fact, when we drove the City at 90 km/h with the air-con running full time, it still delivered over 30 kmpl, about 20% over the certified economy.

The City makes use of Honda’s smallest capacity diesel engine for passenger cars. This 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine is also used in the Amaze and the B-RV. For the City, it comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox which also gives the City long legs for highway usage. With the ‘box slotted in 6th, engine revs at a lower rpm vis-a-vis, say the Maruti Ciaz. Even with a relatively small fuel tank of 40 litres, we could have driven the City for over 1700km before requiring a re-fill!

Honda City Diesel Ownership Review4

This video also shows how changes in driving habits can go a long way in squeezing out that extra bit from every litre of fuel. Remember, every drop saved is a penny earned. For a typical 1500km city usage for a petrol vehicle, a bump in economy by 20% can help you save as much as Rs 23,000 for a petrol hatchback / sedan annually. Similarly, if you have a diesel vehicle and use it for about 2000km every month, you can easily save about Rs 20,000 annually. Makes sense? You can thank us later!

Tata Motors BEATS Honda & Toyota in September

Indian carmaker Tata Motors took the 4th spot in passenger vehicle sales for the month of September 2018 selling 18,429 units. Tata Motors registered a year-over-year growth of 6.6% (1,143 units) compared to September 2017, when it sold 17286 units. While It may have lost the third spot in the sales rankings to Mahindra, Tata managed to keep its Japanese rivals, Honda and Toyota behind by a comfortable margin.

Honda, which was ranked 5th sold 3,563 vehicles less than Tata Motors with 14,866 of its vehicles finding new owners. Honda actually registered a negative growth of -18.6% year-over-year compared to its sales in the same month in 2017 where it sold 18,257 units, which was a drop of 3,391 units.

Toyota which ranked 6th for September 2018 sold 12,512 vehicles across India, which is nearly 6,000 cars, SUVs and MPVs less than Tata’s figures for the same month. However, Toyota’s sales numbers actually grew by 1.6% and it was one of only three carmakers in India that actually grew in September in terms of year-over-year sales along with Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors.

Tata Motors has over the past few months been growingly rapidly and in June this year actually overtook fellow Indian UV giant Mahindra & Mahindra to take the third spot in terms of sales in the Indian passenger vehicle market. This rush in growth is fueled by increasing demand for the Tiago hatchback and the Nexon compact SUV, which have been accounting for nearly 2/3rd of Tata’s sales over the past few months with the Tiago averaging over 8,000 every month and the Nexon hovering at the four thousand unit mark.

Tata Motors is looking to become the third largest carmaker in India in yearly by the year 2019 and may be ready to release the Tiago JTP, the hot hatch version of its best selling car in India this month. Tata is also working on a go-faster version of the Tigor compact sedan and has its large 5-seater SUV, the Harrier scheduled to launch in the first month of 2019. Tata is also working on a premium hatchback based on the 45X concept showed at Auto Expo 2018 in February. The 45X premium hatchback is expected to arrive in India in late 2019.

Tata Nexon Hybrid in the works: Maruti Brezza Hybrid challenger!

$

Tata Motors is said to be working on a hybrid version of its top selling compact SUV – the Nexon. The Tata Nexon  Hybrid will meet the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 emission norms and is likely to arrive sometime in 2020. This  information comes from a Team-BHP member who also states that the automaker has even ordered 10,000 units of the electric junction box to be used on the Tata Nexon Hybrid from a vendor. Tata estimates to sell about 800 to 1,000 units of the Nexon Hybrid in India each month. However, specific details about the compact SUV’s hybrid powertrain are not known at the moment.

Tata Motors already builds electric cars. In fact, the Tigor Electric is even supplied to many government departments  in India, and will soon be on sale in the private car market. However, the automaker is yet to sell a hybrid car in  India. The Nexon Hybrid could be the first such offering.

This news comes at a time when industry leader Maruti Suzuki has announced hybrid cars for the future. In fact, the  Nexon’s prime competitor – the Maruti Brezza – is likely to get a hybrid option soon. Both mild hybrid and  plug-in hybrid versions of the Maruti Brezza are said to be under development.

Maruti already sells multiple mild hybrid cars in the Indian market. The Ertiga MPV and the recently launched Ciaz  both have mild hybrid powertrains on offer, and the S-Cross is soon expected to go mild hybrid. In future, Maruti  also plans to launch full hybrid cars.

Coming back to the Tata Nexon Hybrid, it’ll be interesting to see which of the engines get paired with an electric  motor. Unlike the Maruti Brezza, which has a single diesel engine on offer, the Nexon gets turbocharged petrol and diesel  engine options. While it’ll be easier to make the turbo petrol engine compatible with the Bharat Stage 6 emission  norms, even without adding an electric motor into the equation, the diesel motor may actually need a hybrid layout to meet the tighter emission norms. It’s for this reason that the hybrid Nexon is likely to run on diesel power rather  than petrol. All said, we’re yet to get clear indication on this from Tata Motors.

Force Gurkha to Fiat Avventura: 10 cars & SUVS that ‘STAND OUT’ the most on Indian roads

$
0
0

There are some cars that stand out from all the others on Indian roads. Many times it’s because of their oddball looks but some do so because of their rarity, which makes people take a second peek at them to make sure they’re not seeing things. In this post, we take a look at 10 cars that stand out from the rest on India’s roads.

Nissan Evalia

In 2014, Nissan launched the Evalia MPV in India to rival the Maruti Ertiga. The Evalia was hugely successful in multiple international markets as the NV200 but it could never quite replicate its success in India and was discontinued 2 years later due to poor sales, which has meant that this MPV is rather a rare sight on Indian roads.

The Evalia used the Renault-Nissan Group’s highly successful 1.5-litre K9K turbo diesel engine which cranked out 85 Bhp and 200 Nm of torque and came paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 7-seater Evalia featured sliding doors which allowed for easier access to the rear seats but its oddball looks compared to the regular looking Ertiga meant that it wasn’t very popular with the Indian public.

Fiat Avventura Abarth

The Fiat Avventura Abarth is the hot hatch yet rough and tough version of Fiat’s mainstream Punto hatchback. The Fiat Avventura featured quite a few oddball choices that resulted in quite a few quick double takes. These unconventional features include the rear tailgate with a tyre carrier that blocked access to the car. Also, the 1.4-litre turbo engine on this car is more powerful than most hatchbacks and sedans currently about thanks to 140 Bhp and 210 Nm of torque. It’s odd looks and price tag have made this car a rather rare sight in India.

Tata Sumo Grande

The Tata Sumo Grande was perhaps the poshest Tata Sumo in India. It was sold alongside the regular Sumo, which in the end cut the chances of its success in India. Tata gave the Sumo Grande everything it needed including the Safari’s 2.2-litre engine. Even a name changes to Movio didn’t work well.

Mahindra E2O

The Mahindra e2o started off life as the Reva, which was a three-door car. In its current form as the e2o Plus, it is available as a regular 5-door hatchback. While this electric car can accommodate 5 people like almost every other hatch around it stands out from the rest of the crowd due to its rather unconventional shape and the fact that it is an electric car.

Fiat Punto Abarth

The Fiat Punto Abarth is another rare fast car from the Italian carmaker that we see very rarely on Indian roads. The rarity of this car, which is mainly due to its price and the low sales numbers, along with its potent 145 Bhp and 212 Nm of torque means that people do take a second glace at this.

Renault Scala

The Renault Scala is the Nissan Sunny in sexier French clothes. This badge-engineered sedan however was discontinued due to low sales. It draws eyeballs in wherever it goes though and many have mistaken it for a modified Sunny.

Force Gurkha

The Force Gurkha takes its design cues from the Mercedes-AMG G-Wagen SUV. This off-roader is scarcely seen on Indian roads, and that along with its G-Wagen inspired looks what makes it a stand out car in this list.

The Gurkha is powered by a 2.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 80 Bhp and 230 Nm on tap. Four-wheel drive layout is offered as well as lockable front and rear differentials.

Renault Lodgy

The large Lodgy is Renault’s last attempt to sell a new aspiring MPV in India again. Unfortunately for Renault, Indians are mostly over their love affair with MPVs. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel on the Lodgy puts out either 85 Bhp-200 Nm or 108 Bhp and 240 Nm of torque. However, despite being offered with huge discounts, the Lodgy has never managed to lodge itself in our hearts and minds.

Premier Rio

The Rio was the nation’s first-ever sub-4-metre SUV. However, this SUV made by the same company that made the popular Padmini in the early 80s is a very rare sight on Indian roads. The Rio was offered with two diesel engines a 1.3-litre and a 1.5-litre along with a 1.2-litre petrol.

Renault Koleos

The Koleos was Renault’s flagship SUV long before the arrival of the new Captur. Unfortunately, prices were high as the SUV was imported into India as a CBU. The Koleos was a slow seller, making it a rare sight on Indian roads. It featured a 2-litre turbo diesel engine in two states of tune. Both manual and automatic gearbox options were offered.

Tata Motors trolls the new Ford Figo Aspire ahead of the Tigor Special Edition’s launch

$

The troll wars are on. Tata Motors has just released a web commercial on Facebook, trolling the just-launched Ford  Figo Aspire Facelift sedan. In the web commercial, Tata Motors tells it fans ‘Don’t just ‘Aspire’ and asks them to ‘get inspired’ by the new Tigor, which will be launched in India on the 10th of October. Tata Motors has already put out teasers confirming the launch.

The new Tigor that Tata Motors will launch in less than a week from now is likely to be a special model or a facelift  rather than a full model change considering the fact that the Tigor is less than 3 years old in the Indian market.  The compact sedan is likely to get a visual makeover, along with additional features in order to make it more appealing to buyers.

We expect the Tata Tigor Special Edition to be priced very competitively, allowing to to retain its status as India’s  cheapest compact sedan. Mechanically, the car is expected to be unchanged. The petrol engine will be a 1.2 liter, naturally aspirated 3 cylinder unit with 84 Bhp of peak power and 115 Nm of peak torque, outputs that are par for the course. However, it must be said that the Ford Figo Aspire Facelift is a lot more powerful, with its 1.2 liter 95 Bhp and 1.5 liter 122 Bhp petrols on offer.

Tata Tigor Troll

As for diesel, the Tigor is powered by a 1.1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged unit with 70 Bhp-140 Nm, a lot less  powerful than the Ford Figo Aspire’s 98.6 Bhp-215 Nm outputs. It remains to be seen what the Tigor Special Edition  brings to the table to help differentiate it from the other compact sedans. For now, the JTP version, which would  have added a 1.2 liter turbocharged poetrol engine with 108 Bhp-150 Nm, is still a few months away. The Tigor Electric is also a few weeks/months away from launch for private car buyers.

5 reasons why everyone’s buying the Maruti Swift

$
0
0

Maruti Suzuki have just closed the month of September with a pretty good sales figure. In fact, the top six cars among the top ten best sellers of September were from the Maruti stables and a total of seven cars in top ten, the other three being Hyundais. The top spot for sales this time was taken by the Maruti Swift with 22,228 units shipped out of the factory. That’s a growth of more than 3,000 units as compared to August which saw 19,115 units leave the factory. Now, let’s take you through the reasons as to why the Swift is selling so well.

Tried and Tested name

The Swift graced our shores one fine day in 2005. It has been a runaway success since then and has inspired one more iteration out of it, called the Dzire. Due to such a long presence in market and strong sales, it has built a bit of reputation among the masses as an excellent choice in the hatchback segment. The Swift gets many 2nd, 3rd and even 4th time buyers who get the same car again because of its proven reliability and trust.

Efficient and smooth engines

The Swift comes equipped with a 1.2 litre VVT petrol engine and 1.3 litre turbo diesel engine. The petrol motor churns out 83 Bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque while the diesel unit dishes out 75 Bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. While the power figures may almost be the same as on the last generation car, the newer model is quicker because it’s lighter by around 100 kg. The light body weight along with smooth power delivery makes it a rather fun to drive car. It is more frugal too because of taller gear ratios and light weight. In fact its among the most fuel efficient cars of its category.

Peace of Mind

It can’t be denied that being a Maruti car, the Swift certainly is easy to own. The company has been in the market for around for 35 years now and has built an excellent dealership/service network. Maruti cars are generally easy on the pocket in terms of after sales service as parts are cheap and readily available. A typical Swift owner thereby enjoys a complete peace of mind as he is assured of the after sales service. Also, the Swift commands a good resale value, which adds up as another plus point for the car.

Stylish inside out

This has been a strong point of the Swift ever since the first generation car. The Swift has always been a smart looker and with the current model, Maruti has upped the game further. One of the major complaint of the previous generation Swift owners was the lack of rear seat room but that too has now been improved and the rear bench is among the roomiest and comfiest in its class.

Something for everyone

Maruti offers the Swift with a host of trim and engine-transmission configurations. Additionally, the car comes with an automatic option on both the diesel and petrol variants. The automatics comes not only in one but two trims in both the petrol and diesel variant which makes it quite a attractive option for everyone. The car starts at Rs. 4.99 Lakhs and goes all the way up to Rs. 8.76 Lakhs. Maruti has made sure that there is something for everyone and at every price point for the Swift.

Surprising your parents with something they have always wanted is something kids should always try and do when they grow up. One kid who went beyond any expectations is a 22-year-old direct selling entrepreneur
Tamanana Lohith, from Telangana. Lohit surprised his father on his 50th birthday with the car he always wanted and we do warn you, watching this heart touching video will bring a tear to your eye.

Lohith states that his father had always wanted a big sized car when he was growing up. However, his father gave up on his dreams and made sacrifices to ensure that Lohith could do what he wanted to do when he grew up.

Lohith decided to surprise his father on his 50th birthday. He blindfolded him with his own hands and took him to where his surprise was waiting for his father. As his father finally opened his eyes, Lohith handed his dad the keys to his birthday gift – his very own ‘big’ car – a Hyundai Verna. Lohith’s father reaction to seeing his brand new big car seems to be one of disbelief and he is seen shaking his head even after getting in the Verna once. Then after cutting a birthday cake, more tears and quite a few comments from the rest of the family and friends around, Lohith got into the back seat of the Hyundai Verna as his father drove him and his mother out of the place where they met for his dad’s birthday.

Hyundai Verna Dad Gift Featured

The Verna is the Hyundai’s challenger in the C-Segment sedan category in India and competes with the likes of the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City. Hyundai offers the Verna with three engine options, two petrol and one diesel.

The smaller of the petrol engines, a 1.4-litre, produces 99 Bhp and 132 Nm of torque and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The larger engine is a 1.6-litre unit that produces 121 Bhp and 151 Nm of torque which comes paired to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The only diesel engine, which is used by the Verna gifted in the story above is a 1.6-litre unit produces 126 Bhp and 260 Nm of torque and comes paired to 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options.

Chief among them is the Supreme Court ruling which mandates an increase in third-party insurance cover for new bikes and scooters to five years. This along with an increase in the accident coverage to 15 Lakhs and rising fuel prices have proved to be too much for the customers.

Overview Pulsar Model Page 500 X 392 01

Also to note is the fact that the insurance scheme is applicable in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal & Assam for all Pulsar models. Motorcycle prices across all brands and make have gone up by atleast Rs. 6000 after the recent developments regarding insurance cover. Bajaj Auto claims that they are the first in the industry to introduce such an offer. The 5-5-5 offer makes it even easier to own a Bajaj motorcycle.

Also, Bajaj is eyeing the upcoming festive season and plans to sell a record number of motorcycles this time around. Company executives stated that they are confident about these new customer-centric schemes and they will help boost the sales this festive season. The Platina, Discover, Pulsar and V range of motorcycles is among the top sellers in their segment and it remains to be seen how they fare in terms of sale after these schemes.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a name that needs no introduction. The former Indian cricket team captain is well known for his extraordinary decisions on the field. He is also known as captain cool for not losing his temper when on field. Dhoni is an avid lover of cars and bikes and owns a wide range of both. Which are the cars and bikes that Dhoni owns? Let’s find out.

Hummer H2

Our Mahi loves SUVs, and all the four-wheelers in his garage are in SUV form. Among the most exotic set of wheels he owns is a Hummer H2 that he imported privately. Dhoni has been spotted numerous times driving the H2 around his hometown. He is also often seen at the airport getting dropped off in the H2. This beast of a vehicle gets powered by a massive 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 393 Bhp. A perfect match for the captain then.

Mercedes-Benz GLE

The Mercedes Benz GLE is one of the latest addition in Dhoni’s garage. The GLE is based on the popular E-Class sedan and oozes luxury. He keeps the SUV in Maharashtra to use whenever he is in that state. The GLE is powered by three engine options in the market. There is a 2.1-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum of 201 Bhp and 500 Nm. Then there’s a more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum of 255 Bhp and 620 Nm. The company also offers a 3.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 333 Bhp and 480 Nm.

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahi has always been full of surprises, both on the field and off it. One such case is of the Mahindra Scorpio he owns. The Scorpio is one humble vehicle under normal circumstances for Dhoni to own but his is not a regular Scorpio. Mahi has a fully customised, open-roof Scorpio that perfectly suits his personality. It is now a four-seater car with pilot seats in the rear too. The car gets a good amount of chrome and red highlights in the interiors. The vehicle does not gets any Scorpio branding. Instead, it gets “MS” logo all over. This exclusive Scorpio also features a custom dual-barrel exhaust muffler. Cool, ain’t it, but then he is Dhoni.

Audi Q7

The Audi Q7 has made a place in most of the big personalities of India lately. It is the flagship luxury SUV of the German four ringed company. The Q7 is one of the cars that Dhoni uses quite often and drives it himself too. The Q7 that Dhoni owns is an older model. It is powered by the range-topping V12 turbo-diesel engine that churns out a maximum torque of 800 Nm. Dhoni has been often spotted being driven in it too.

Land Rover Freelander 2

The Land Rover Freelander 2 is another popular luxury SUV to make Dhoni’s garage its home. It has been discontinued now but it used to be the brand’s entry-level luxury SUV. The Freelander2 became quite famous for its capabilities both on and off the road. The Freelander 2 is popular among car enthusiasts as it also becomes the first Land Rover SUV to be assembled in India. The SUV carried a 2.2-litre diesel engine that churned out a maximum of 148 Bhp and 420 Nm. The SUV was also available in a more powerful 187 Bhp version.

Confederate Hellcat X132

The Hellcat X132 is one of the rarest and most fiercest motorcycle in the world. In, it should be called motorcycle with a capital M. It is a power cruiser that gets a very infrequent design.  The Hellcat is intended to be a long-distance touring bike but Dhoni has been spotted a few times racing it in the track. The X132 Hellcat gets a massive 2.2-litre V-Twin engine that generates a maximum of 121 Bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. Dhoi imported the bike to India and it costed him around 60 lakhs to have one at his doorstep.

Yamaha RD350

The RD350 is an iconic bike in its own respect, and is a enthusiast’s dream. Dhoni owns a couple of RD350s and he loves them so much that he has been spotted several times washing and repairing them. One of these RD 350s was one of Dhoni’s first bikes that he bought for Rs. 4,500. It is of knowledge that he even restored the engines of one of the bikes during his free time.

Harley-Davidson Fatboy

Dhoni also owns the true-blue cruiser, the Harley-Davidson Fatboy. It is the same bike that was used in the famous movie Terminator 2. The iconic bike from the Softail series is known for its cool looks and easy stance.  Captain cool has been spotted quite a few times riding the bike in his hometown Ranchi. It is powered by a V-Twin engine which displaces1,690-cc. The bike churns out a maximum of 132 Bhp which is more than enough.

 BSA Goldstar

The BSA Goldstar is another iconic vintage bike owned by Mahi. It is a bike that many collectors own and many wish to own. The British legend gets powered by a 500-cc, single-cylinder engine that produces a maximum of 48 Bhp. It can hit a maximum speed of 100 km/h. This one shows that Dhoni’s love for bike is not just an attraction but rather a mature relation.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX14R

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX14R was one of the most advanced, powerful and feature laden bike of its time. Therefore, no surprises that it made its way to Dhoni’s garage quite a long time ago. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R was the flagship bike of the Japanese maker for a long time and had speed record battles with arch-rival Suzuki Hayabusa. Dhoni owns a black Ninja ZX-14R, which is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine that generates a maximum of 197 Bhp of power and 162.5 Nm of torque.

Yamaha FZ-1

The Yamaha FZ-1 is a naked streetfighter bike which actually is a Yamaha R1 sans cowling. During the time Dhoni plays for the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, he uses a Yamaha FZ-1 for commuting around the city of Chennai. The litre-class superbike is used by Dhoni to arrive at the stadium for practice sessions. It is powered by an in-line four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum of 148 Bhp and 106 Nm. The 150cc FZ we all love is based on this bike only.

Kawasaki Ninja H2

The Kawasaki Ninja H2 is the current superbike leader in terms of speed and power. It is the latest bike acquired by the cricketer. Recently, he posted a picture of it on his personal social media account. However, he has not been spotted riding the bike yet. The Ninja H2 is powered by a 1.0-litre supercharged in-line four-cylinder engine that generates a massive 197 Bhp and 134 Nm. The Ninja H2 is known for its extreme power-to-weight ratio and is priced at around Rs. 30 lakhs. It also has a more wild version called the Ninja H2R, but it’s not street legal.

Maruti Suzuki launched the updated Ciaz last month in India with a few noticeable updates. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift has remained one of the best selling cars in the segment since its first launch in the Indian market. After the pre-facelift, the Ciaz has become the best selling model in the segment outselling the likes of Hyundai Verna and Honda City.

Ciaz City Verna Featured

The Maruti Ciaz in its latest avatar offers a lot of features. With the update, Maruti now offers additional features like LED projector headlamps, a new grille and slightly updated bumpers. The biggest changes to the new Ciaz are the all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine and the hybrid system that is now also available with the petrol variants. This increases the fuel efficiency of the petrol Ciaz by a great deal.

In the month of September, Maruti has sold as many as 6,246 units of the Ciaz while the runners-up Hyundai Verna has sold 3,501 units and the Honda City sold only 2,564 units. The rise in the sales of the Ciaz can be attributed to the fresh face and the high fuel efficiency that it offers even with the petrol engine option. Surprisingly, the sales of Honda City has pushed down by a good number in the past few months. It used to be the top-selling car in the segment. The September sales figure also reveals that the Toyota Yaris is not making a great impact in the mid-size segment. The Yaris was launched only with petrol engine option but offered a wide range of features, some of which are the segment-first. However, Toyota managed to sell only 595 units of the Yaris in September, making it the second worst performing sedan on the sales chart.

The new Maruti Ciaz gets the all-new 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 104 Bhp – 138 Nm. The diesel engine remains the same 1.3-litre Multijet unit that generates a maximum of 89 Bhp and 200 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel engine options get the Smart Hybrid system. The diesel engine is available only with a manual transmission while the petrol engine of the Ciaz is also available with an automatic transmission.

Driving a Batmobile in real life: What it’s like [Video]

Most superheroes drive really exotic cars but there is no superhero car that can match the Batmobile of Gotham’s superhero – Batman. Ever since people knew about the existence of the Batmobile in comics/movies, they’ve tried making real-life versions of the vehicle around the world. Here is one such real-life Batmobile from Dubai.

The Batmobile!

Every enthusiast building a Batmobile adds her/his own imagination, making every Batmobile in the real world a bespoke model. This one is no different, and looks more advanced than the one we see in the Batman comics and the movies. The handmade car was driven by Lana Rose on the roads of Dubai and the car does sound like what a superhero car should sound like.

To start with, the body parts Batmobile is completely fabricated. We are not sure if any platform of a pick-up truck or an SUV to built the vehicle. It gets extremely big rear tyres that look like 60-inches. According to the owner of the vehicle, each tyre weighs more than 500 kg and are imported from Isreal. The Batmobile also gets fake guns mounted at the front to give it a sense of realism. Apart from that, the whole vehicle looks like a big, angry vehicle on the road. It gets big air intakes and a rear mounted engine. According to the video, the vehicle is powered by an LS1 5.6-litre engine V8 but no further details have been given. It also gets two flamethrowers mounted at the rear to recreate the Batmobile’s effect but they weren’t used while shooting the video for safety reasons.

Getting in and out of this Batmobile is a task as the doors open upwards. Closing the doors make them act like the roof but during the video, they did not close the doors completely. It is possible that the visibility becomes quite poor with the doors closed. The engine starts with a rumble after a sequence of toggle switches are pushed and the big red button is pressed. There is no mention of the gearbox but it is an automatic.

It sure looks huge and can scare people away on the roads. We have a few Batmobiles in India too and one of them is based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class! Batman sure would have loved to get a ride in these replica Batmobiles when his own is in the service station!

Maruti has just launched a special edition version of the WagonR tall-boy hatchback. The launch comes just weeks ahead of the all-new Hyundai Santro, scheduled to arrive on the 23rd of October 2018. Bookings of the all-new Santro will start from October 9th, and the special edition WagonR seems intent at stealing some of the new Hyundai’s thunder. At least, the timing says so.

2018 Maruti Wagonr Limited Edition

Talking of changes on the Maruti WagonR Special Edition, the car gets a slew of additional features on the inside, and cosmetic enhancements on the outside. Talking of stylistic changes, the WagonR Special Edition now offers new body graphics and a rear spoiler. On the inside, there’s a styling kit to spruce up the interiors. As for new features, the car gets a Double-DIN Bluetooth Music System with speakers and reverse parking sensors, seat covers and a cushion set.

Mechanically, the WagonR Special Edition remains unchanged. It’s powered by a 1 liter-3 cylinder K-Series petrol engine that outputs 67 Bhp-90 Nm. This engine is offered with two gearbox options – a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed automated manual. The WagonR is available with LPG and CNG dual fuel options in specific markets of the country.

Maruti Suzuki is testing an all-new WagonR on Indian roads. The car will be launched early next year. A full stylistic revamp on the outside and new interiors will be offered. However, the engine and gearboxes of the current version are likely to be carried over unchanged. In 2020, Maruti will introduce an all-electric version of the WagonR as its first electric car for the Indian market.

Mr. R. S. Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (M&S), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said,

WagonR customers have always valued substance and style; with this limited edition we intend to make this festive season even more wonderful for them. With its tall boy design, driving comfort, spacious interiors and fuel efficiency, WagonR has always been amongst the top selling models for Maruti Suzuki. We are sure this new limited edition will bring in freshness to the product and excite the customers across India.

Hyundai is putting together an all-new Grand i10 hatchback, and the car has already hit the testing circuit on Indian  roads. The next-generation Grand i10 was spied testing alongside another brand new Hyundai car – the QXi code named sub-4 meter compact SUV that will arrive early next year as a Maruti Vitara Brezza challenger. The launch timeline of the new Hyundai Grand i10 has now been revealed to be the end of 2019. The new hatchback is expected to arrive by October next year, in time for the festive season. The new car will continue to be positioned as a B segment hatchback that will challenge the Maruti Swift and Ford Figo.

2019 Hyundai Grand I10 Render

The all-new Grand i10 is expected to get a major stylistic revamp. Hyundai’s new cascading grille is likely to find  expression in the new car, which is expected to be sharper looking than the present model. The car is also expected  to grow in size slightly in order to offer more room to passengers. However, it’ll retain the sub-4 meter footprint.

The present Grand i10’s petrol and turbocharged diesel engines are expected to be carried over to the new model.  However, both engines are likely to get significant changes in terms of emission control equipment in the face of the  impending Bharat State 6 emission norms, which will be much tighter than BS4 norms.

The 1.2 liter petrol motor makes 82 Bhp-114 Nm, and the 1.2 liter turbocharged diesel motor makes 74 Bhp-190 Nm. Both engines will retain 5 speed manual gearboxes. Also, a brand new 5 speed automated manual transmission is likely to be offered with both the engines.

This move from Hyundai will bring the new Grand i10 at par with the 3rd generation Maruti Swift, which gets AMT  options on both the petrol and diesel engines. As for pricing, the new Grand i10 is expected to duck under Rs. 5  lakhs for the base model, again a strategy similar to the one adopted by the Maruti Swift. Overall, pricing of the new version is likely to be more or less similar to the current model.

As for additional equipment on the new car, expect a touchscreen infotainmant console to occupy pride of place on the dashboard. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be standard. The new car will also gets standard ABS, twin airbags, reverse parking sensors, speed warning alert and seatbelt reminder alert as standard safety features.

Hyundai is putting together a brand new sub-4 meter compact SUV that will gun straight for the Maruti Brezza, the country’s best selling SUV. Code-named the QXi and first shown to India at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo as the Carlino, the sub-4 meter Hyundai will be launched in India by March 2019. Reports state that the new SUV would be called the Hyundai Styx. With less than 6 months to go for the launch, test mules of SUV have already been spotted. Deriving cues from test mules, here is a render that shows what the production version of the Hyundai Styx/QXi could look like.

2019 Hyundai Styx Compact Suv Render

Render courtesy IAB

As the render indicates, the Hyundai Styx/QXi could look like a baby-Creta, but with a few butch lines. The front end is likely to get the cascading Hyundai grille, which is now common across almost all new cars from the South Korean automaker. The headlamps could be LED units, similar to the ones seen on the Hyundai Kona.

Visually, the new Hyundai sub-4 meter compact SUV is likely to be very attractive, just like its big brother Creta. Top notch levels of fit and finish is likely. The SUV will ride on 16 inch wheels, and the top-end variants are expected to get diamond cut alloy wheels.

As for the mechanicals, the monocoque SUV will be front wheel driven, and will offer turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options. While the diesel will be the 1.4 liter CRDI unit also found on the i20 Elite with 89 Bhp-220 Nm, the petrol will be an all-new, 3 cylinder turbocharged unit putting out about 110 Bhp. Both engines are more powerful than the one offered by the Maruti Brezza.

Hyundai will offer manual gearboxes as standard and automated manual transmission options. Both the petrol and diesel engines are likely to get AMT options. A four wheel drive layout is not likely to be in the scheme of things for the Hyundai Styx. The SUV is likely to be featured loaded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay making it to the top spec variants. Twin airbags and ABS+EBD will be standard safety features across all trims. Expect prices of the Hyundai Styx to start from about Rs. 7.5-8 lakhs. It’ll rival the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has been signed on by Tata Motors to endorse the Tigor compact sedan. Tata is all set to introduce a top-spec variant of the Tigor on the 10th of October, and Hrithik Roshan’s brand endorsement is meant to boost sales of the same. The Tigor, which is based on the hot selling Tiago hatchback, has been a tepid seller in comparison. While the Tiago sells about 8,000 monthly units on an average, the Tigor does just one fourth of that, with monthly numbers hovering around the 2,000 units mark. Tata Motors will be hoping that the brand association of the car with Hrithik Roshan gives it a new wind, and pushes up sales numbers.

Hrithik Roshan Tata Tigor

Hrithik Roshan is a known car enthusiast and owns a vintage Ford Mustang apart from a range of other sleek and  luxurious cars. The Bollywood actor has endorsed Hero MotoCorp’s range of motorcycles in the past, most memorably the Karizma line, and is therefore no stranger to promoting automobiles.

Coming back to the new, top-spec Tigor, the car will get visual changes in the form of revised headlamps, tail lamps,  front grille, alloy wheels and other bits. On the inside, new features will be added, befitting the new variant’s  top-of-the-line status.

However, the Tigor top-spec variant will remain unchanged mechanically. It will continue to be offered with petrol  and turbodiesel engine options. The petrol motor will be a 1.2 liter unit with 84 Bhp-115 Nm on tap. 5 speed manual  and automated manual transmissions will be offered with this engine.

The diesel engine is a 1.1 liter-3 cylinder, turbocharged unit with 69 Bhp-140 Nm. A 5 speed manual gearbox is  offered as standard with this engine. In the coming months, Tata Motors will launch new variants of the Tigor with  major mechanical changes.

One such variant is the Tigor JTP – a high performance variant of the car. The Tigor JTP will be powered by a 1.2  liter turbocharged petrol engine with 108 Bhp-170 Nm. The Tigor will also get an electric variant aimed at city car buyers.

Nissan Kicks compact SUV to replace the Terrano in India?

$
0
0

Nissan Terrano is the rebadged version of the Renault Duster in India. The Terrano is more expensive and more premium of the Duster but it never became as popular as Renault’s model. Renault will soon launch the all-new Duster in the Indian market but it is still quite a few months away, Nissan is gearing up to launch the Kicks SUV in the Indian market. In the meantime, it is being reported that Nissan has stopped shipping any new Terrano from their factory to the dealerships, which indicates that the production of the car has been stopped.

The Nissan Kicks and the Terrano may have price overlap, which is perhaps why the automaker has decided to stop producing the latter. It can be one of the reasons to discontinue the Terrano from the Indian market. It is also possible that Nissan may bring a stripped-down version of the Terrano with a lower price tag. It will be similar to the Micra Active that is available in the Indian market. It should be noted that the Terrano is not a very popular car in the market. The monthly sales have come down to double-digits for a few months now. It can be one of the primary reasons to stop the sales of the Terrano in India. A lot will be riding on the Nissan Kicks. The SUV will challenge the Hyundai Creta.

Nissan has not officially said anything on the development yet. It is also not known if the production halt is temporary. The Nissan Terrano has been around for quite long but remained overshadowed by the Renault Duster. In the month of July, Nissan sold only 65 units of the Terrano while in August, only 71 units of the car were sold.

Mechanically, the Terrano gets exact same specifications as the Duster. It is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. There is a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum of 103 Bhp at 5,750 rpm and 148 Nm at 3,750 rpm. The diesel engine unit is a 1.5-litre K9K engine that produces a maximum of 84 Bhp – 200 Nm. There is a higher powered variant of the same diesel engine that produces a maximum of 109 Bhp – 245 Nm.

Bus driver lets monkey sit on steering wheel in a moving bus: Gets fired

Days ago, a video went viral. The video showed a monkey (Langur) sitting on the steering wheel of a moving Karnataka State Transport (KSRTC) with the driver happily egging the animal on. Others present in the bus were also heard encouraging the monkey, who almost gave the impression of steering the bus as the driver was taking control of the steering – on and off. Now, the KSRTC bus driver who let the Langur sit on the steering wheel of the moving vehicle carrying passengers has been removed off duty. Meanwhile, here is the video that shows the monkey sitting on the steering wheel of the moving KSRTC bus.

The bus driver in question, Prakash, belongs to the Davangere division of Karnataka State Road Transport Service  (KSRTC). The incident is said to have happened on the 1st of October, 2018, when the said bus was plying between  Davanagere and Bharamasagara.

Confirming the driver’s removal from roster, here is what a KSRTC official had to say,

We have removed the driver from duty and have asked the divisional security inspector to conduct an inquiry. He  won’t be assigned any further duty till the probe is completed; he could even be suspended.

Throwing more light into the incident, another KSRTC official from Davanagere said,

The Langur came with a teacher, who travels regularly in the bus. But it went and plonked itself on the driver’s  seat and refused to leave despite efforts by passengers to remove it from there. He (Prakash) is an animal lover but  should not have allowed this while driving a bus. The animal left the steering wheel after 2-3 minutes and alighted  at the next stop. There have been no complaints from passengers so far.

All said and done, it’s dangerous to allow an animal or any untrained person for that matter near the steering wheel  of a moving bus. The harmless looking stunt could have easily gone wrong, putting the lives of the passengers of the bus and also other road users at grave risk. It’s likely that the bus driver will be suspended after the inquiry,  setting a precedent for other drivers. Clearly, this driver took his love for animals a bit too far.
