Mahindra has launched the 8-seater variant of the Marazzo today. The new variant is exclusively for the M8 trim, which is the top spec trim level of the MPV. Though 8 seat configurations were available prior to this on M2, M4 and M6 variants, the top end M8 trim only had a seven seat configuration up till. now.

With this, those who wanted a premium 8-seat MPV that is priced less than the Innova will definitely want to look into the the Marazzo M8 8 seater. Being the top end variant, it comes with all the bells and whistles expected in a car with that price tag.

Marazzo 8 Seat

Speaking of which, the Marazzo 8-seater M8 is priced at Rs. 13.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is Rs. 8,000 more than the 7 seat version of the Marazzo M8, which retails at Rs. 13.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, the top end Marazzo is still a lot cheaper than the base variant of Innova Crysta, which retails for Rs. 14.82 lakhs  (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The M8 variant of Marazzo is quite feature rich and can carry a load of 7 to 8 passengers in full comfort. The MPV comes with many top-of-the-line features including a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system with Capsense & Haptics technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a reverse parking camera with dynamic guidelines. Other features include a 17-inch alloy wheels, Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), faux leather seats and window-mounted sunshades for second-row passengers. Mahindra Marazzo 1

Speaking on the occasion, Veejay Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said:

The globally engineered Marazzo has generated a lot of interest among buyers. This is due to its unique architecture that offers the best of both worlds in the form of car-like ride and handling coupled with the toughness and stability of a body-on-frame construction. The inclusion of the 8-seater option on the top-end M8 variant will further widen the Marazzo’s appeal.

The Mahindra Marazzo gets powered by a newly developed 1.5 litre diesel engine that churns out a decent 121 Bhp of power along with 300 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission, which drives the front wheels of the MPV. The MPV gets an ARAI certified fuel efficiency rating of 17.6 km/l which is quite decent. Mahindra plans to launch a turbocharged petrol variant in 2020. Before that, the Marazzo will get an AMT option with the diesel motor.

The price range for the Mahindra Marazzo starts at Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base M2 variant while the just launched 8 seater M8 variant costs Rs. 14.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Though the MPV does not have any direct rivals as of now (except for the Renault Lodgy), the car gets competition from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta, both of which are either a segment down (former) or up (latter).

India is one of the largest automobile markets in the world but the roads are filled with affordable, mass-segment vehicles. When it comes to the iconic, mass-segment vehicles, the high import taxes keep them away from the Indian roads. However, there are many who import such exotics for their personal or bring the vehicles for a limited time to India on carnet permit. Here are five such exotic cars and SUVs that have been spotted in India recently.

Dodge Viper SRT

Dodge Viper 1

The Dodge Viper is an exotic car even in the international markets. This one is the even rarer high-performance SRT version. The Viper SRT gets a recognised easily by its longish nose on the road. It gets powered by a massive 8.4-litre V10 engine that sends all the power to the rear wheels. The engine produces a maximum power of 645 Bhp and a peak torque of 814 Nm. It has entered the Indian territory on carnet permit and will leave soon.

Cadillac Escalade

Cadillac Escalade 2

It is one of the most common privately imported SUVs in India. This particular all-black Escalade Long Wheelbase is the first one such car registered in Hyderabad. It was imported recently and has become quite a common sight on Hyderabad roads. To register the Cadillac Escalade in India, one has to spend a fortune on converting the stock LHD layout of the vehicle to RHD. It also looks lower than the stock version.

The huge SUV can intimidate any other vehicle on the road and has a tremendous presence. It is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that churns out a maximum power of 420 Bhp and a peak torque of 624 Nm. It gets an automatic transmission.

Steelbird helmet with ‘hands-free’ feature offers music/calling at a super attractive price tag [Video]

A helmet is the most basic safety kit when it comes to bike riding. Due to their life saving potential, helmets have been made compulsory across the country and also across most parts of the world. With the passage of time, helmets too have progressed and now are a lot more than just a cover to protect your head. Expensive modern helmets are very light weight, feature intercoms and can withstand heavy forces without cracking.

The video below by Lokesh Swami, however, exhibits a relatively affordable helmet that comes with a unique and practical feature of hands free calling along with other perks. Let’s take a look at the video before proceeding further.

The helmet showcased in the video is made by Steelbird and the model is SBA-1 HF. HF here stands for Hands Free, which is the feature for which the company is charging extra. Talking about the aesthetic appeal, the Helmet looks quite decent and comes with three colour options – Black, Red, and white, all in matte shade. The helmet is not a full visor unit which are the latest rage among the bikers. However, the helmet definitely is not a bad looker and is stylish enough to make you look good while on the move. There are two speakers present in the helmet placed at either sides along with a microphone to pick up the voice.

Coming to the hands free feature which makes it different from rest of the lot, the SBA-1 HF can be used to take calls and listen music, all while you are riding your bike. There is a 3.5 mm jack at the left side of the helmet which can be connected to your phone via a 2-way 3.5 mm connector wire. When connected, the helmet can directly pick up disconnect calls by the use of a button on its side. Also, it can be used to listen music through your phone. However, the insulation level is not very good and therefore you may find it difficult to use hands free while riding at high speeds on highways. City usage of the Helmet won’t be a problem though.

Steel Bird Helmet

According to the video, there is a slight echo when calling through the hands free mode. However, it is not something of a deal breaker and is under tolerable level. The helmet does not come with in-built intercom given its price. However, an aftermarket unit can be fitted easily if you plan to use one.

Now coming to the retail price of the helmet, Steelbird has listed the SBA-1 HF for Rs. 2,589 on its official site. However, you can get better deals if you look around a bit on other online shopping platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. You can also check it out at offline stores across your cities as this model is readily available across the country.

It’s very important that you a try a helmet before buying. So, if you do choose to buy a helmet online, make sure that there’s a solid return policy as you may have to return an ill-fitting helmet.

Renault India is working on an all-new 7-seater MPV for the Indian market. Codenamed as RBC, it will be based on the CMF-A+ platform, which is a modified version of the Renault’s CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid. The all-new RBC will be much longer than the Renault Kwid and will also get a longer wheelbase. However, the overall length will remain under 4 meters to get the small car benefit in the Indian market.

Rbc 1

Renault is expected to launch the production version of the RBC by the end of 2019. Because the vehicle will be based on the Kwid platform, the design is also expected to be inspired by the Renault Kwid. According to the rendering, the Renault RBC will be quite rugged and will get a black cladding all around. The front and sides get contrasting silver inserts that give it a very premium look. However, the production version may not get any such contrasting inserts to keep the cost low.

The rendering by MotorBeam is based on the test vehicles caught testing on the roads and gets sleek headlamps and a wider grille. As Renault has already seen how muscularly designed Kwid had caught the attention of the Indian market. The same design lines may appear on the body of the RBC when it is launched. The RBC would be much like an extended version of a hatchback and similar to Datsun Go Plus in the Indian market. It will be one of the most affordable 7-seaters in the Indian market.

On the inside, the all-new RBC will feature a premium cabin as seen in the spy pictures. It will get a dual-tone dashboard with a lot of chrome and silver inserts. The top-spec version is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system just like the Kwid. Renault will also offer front airbags, ABS+EBD and other safety features like the rear parking sensors, speed warning, seatbelt reminder across the variants as standard features due to the upcoming government rule.

The engine specifications of the upcoming Renault RBC is not known. However, a 1.0-litre turbocharged or a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre engine can be expected on the upcoming model. The diesel engine will not be offered on the entry-level MPV. Renault will also offer AMT automatic transmission with the RBC as the automatics are becoming quite popular in the market.

Renault is expected to put a price tag of around Rs. 5.5 lakhs on the upcoming seven-seater RBC, which will put it in the range of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the likes. The Datsun Go Plus, which is built on a similar idea is not doing very well in the market. However, Renault may approach a different strategy with the RBC and offer premium features to attract the young customers. We’ve seen a touchscreen infotainment unit on the test mules of the MPV, and expect more such premium features on this low cost people mover.

Mahindra XUV300 transformed into a hardcore off-road vehicle [Video]

Mahindra is currently preparing its sub-compact SUV segment disruptor in the form of the XUV300. Going by the company, the XUV300 will be the most feature rich and most powerful vehicle in its segment along with having the longest wheelbase inn the segment. It is based on the SsangYong Tivoli, which actually is larger than 4 meter in length.

The launch is still some time away but render artist DESI GEEEK, who previously brought us exciting renders of the Hyundai Santro and Tata Harrier off-road among others, has already created another off road render which is based on the XUV300.

Though the sub-compact SUV will not be offered in a 4X4 guise, let’s assume that the one above comes equipped with it for the sake of the render. The XUV300 is quite a smart looking SUV and Mahindra has got the exterior design on point. However, this render takes things a few notches up and makes it look like the king of the hill. Let’s now see what all has gone into making the XUV300 the off-road beast it is above.

Xuv300 Off Rod Render 2

Firstly, the car has been given the typical off road treatment by equipping it with big off-road spec tires shod on black alloys. The suspension too has been provided with a lift kit and all this results in a towering stance for the vehicle. The front fascia now gets yellow fog lamps in place of DRLs while the whole front bumper has been redesigned too. The front grille has been blacked out to match the black-grey body paint shade. Then there is a typical snorkel in place too, equipped to help with water wading. The roof gets an LED light bar along with a metal carry cage. Off road spec side steps have been added too in order to add practicality as well as butch look to the SUV.

The Mahindra XUV300 will get both petrol and diesel power-mills to choose from. There is an all new 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol along with a 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel. The petrol motor will most probably churn out a hefty 135 Bhp of power along with 200 Nm of torque. The diesel, on the other hand is the same unit that does duty on the Marazzo MPV and dishes out 121 Bhp of power along with 300 Nm of torque. Mahindra claims that the XUV300 will be  the most powerful vehicle in its segment, ahead of the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. A 6 speed manual gearboxes will do the transmission duties and will drive the front wheels of the SUV across both engines.

Mahindra Xuv300 1

Mahindra had previously revealed that it will launch the XUV300 sub-compact SUV on 15th of February, which means that the launch date is exactly one month away. Mahindra has hinted that it will place the XUV300 as a more premium offering in the segment, which means that it could place the SUV in the price bracket of Rs. 8-12 lakhs. Whether the vehicle will be able to live up to the hype and the expectations till now could only be answered next month when the company launches the vehicle.

Volkswagen India fined 171 Crores by NGT for dieselgate scam

The Volkswagen Group has been fined in many international countries after it was caught for the Dieselgate scandal. Back in India, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has recommended Volkswagen Group to pay a minimum of Rs. 171.34 crores as a “conservative” fine for damage to health caused in India.

The new announcement was made earlier today. The NGT panel was formed in November 2018 after the Dieselgate scandal came into light in 2015. The Volkswagen Group was found guilty of intentionally programming the diesel engines with software that detects the testing conditions and reduces the emissions. It was done to meet the strict regulatory standards of the USA. The Volkswagen diesel engines were found to be up to 40 times more polluting by emitting Nitrous Oxides (NOx) in the real-world tests.

According to The Indian Express, the report was filed on December 24, 2018, and an estimated 48.678 tonnes of NOx was released by the Volkswagen cars in 2016 in India. The panel used the National Captial – Delhi as the base city to calculate the damages and to create the estimate of 171.34 crores. The estimate has been done on the basis of additional NOx released from the Volkswagen Group cars that came with the “Cheat Device”.

Volkswagen Ngt Penalty Featured

The panel also mentioned that the longer exposures to the higher concentrations of N02 contribute to the development of asthma and potentially increase susceptibility to respiratory infections. The NOx gases also react with the atmosphere to form smog and acid rain. These particles also form fine particulate matter (PM) and ground-level Ozone that affects the health adversely. The panel reached the final figure by using the estimates of the cost of treatment and related expenses and disability-adjusted life years from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the report, as many as 3.27 lakh Volkswagen Group cars were sold in India with the cheat device. The Volkswagen Group cars consist of brands like Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda and more. Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel had directed Volkswagen to deposit Rs 100 crore within a month with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPBP) in an order that was passed on 16th November 2018.

Volkswagen Group is facing massive charges in the USA and Canada. The group has already agreed to pay $2.8 billion to an environmental trust. Volkswagen pleaded guilty against the charges in the USA and NGT has mentioned the same in their latest report.

NGT has further said that in India, only the human health damages are being considered while calculating the fines. The method was considered as there are lack of methodologies to calculate the overall impact of NOx on the environment in India.

Helmets save lives: Here’s PROOF!

$
0
0

Crash helmets save lives, and here’s the clearest proof of why anyone on a two wheeler – be it a bicycle, motorcycle or a scooter – needs to wear a crash helmet. The video below shows a moped rider somewhere in South Asia trying to overtake a truck through a narrow gap between the truck and the pavement.

Why this video now? There are people in India who stubbornly refuse to wear helmets for any number of reasons, ranging from ruining hairstyle to fears about spinal injury. But the benefits of wearing one absolutely cannot be denied, and this video is ultimate proof that sometimes, all that stands between you and death or horrible injury is a good helmet.

The moped rider makes contact with the pavement and loses balance, and falls in between the wheels of the heavy vehicle. The rear wheel of the truck drives right over the man’s head, which fortunately has a crash helmet on it. The man gets up and walks away.

Such situations play out almost everyday on roads around the world. In India, which has the most dangerous roads in the world in terms of the sheer number of fatalities each day, tens of people lose their lives in two wheeler accidents, mainly due to head injuries. A crash helmet helps prevent such injuries, and maximizes the chance of survival.

Helmet Featured

Coming back to the accident in question, the two wheeler rider tried to squeeze through a narrow gap, and this was his biggest mistake. While overtaking a heavy vehicle, it’s important to maintain adequate distance. Drivers of heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses often fail to see small traffic such as two wheelers and pedestrians due to massive blind spots. The onus therefore is on the person who is overtaking (in this case the moped rider) to stay out of trouble rather than the truck driver.

But people in India are still protesting against helmets!

Just the other week, a bunch of citizens in Pune, led by local politicians, conducted a ‘funeral’ for a crash helmet in protest against the rule that makes wearing a crash helmet compulsory for two wheeler riders. According to these protesters, the crash helmet causes 1. Baldness 2. Neck pain and 3. Lack of rearward visibility 4. Discomfort in hot weather.

The protesters also added that helmets are not required at low, city speeds, and that the government should instead focus on improving road infrastructure rather than ‘inconveniencing’ citizens with the helmet rule. The video above challenges the logic of the anti-helmet protesters. Clearly, the moped rider falls under the truck at a low speed, and if not for a helmet, would have simply been crushed to death.

Choosing the right helmet!

By now, you would have realized that a helmet is something that’s a vital part of safety kit while riding a two wheeler. Choosing the right helmet is very important as wearing a wrong sized/low quality helmet will not offer the same level of protection as a high quality, snug fitting helmet.

  1. While buying a helmet, ensure that you opt for one that has ISI marking on it. Also, stick to reputed helmet brands. The ISI marking on a reputed brand of helmet ensures that the helmet can actually withstand the forces that an accident generates and save the head from injury.
  2. The fit of the helmet is equally critical. The protective cushioning inside the helmet, which absorbs the force of an impact, along with the helmet’s hard exterior shell, compresses over time. This is why you need to buy a helmet that fits snugly onto your head. It should neither be too loose, or too tight. It’s best that you try out multiple helmets for fit before buying one.

Maruti Suzuki has officially started taking the bookings for the upcoming all-new WagonR. The all-new car will be launched on 23rd January and the deliveries are expected to start from the same day. Here are exclusive pictures of the all-new WagonR caught at a dealer stockyard. The hatchback seen in the pictures gets one of four new colours introduced by Maruti Suzuki. It is known as the Pearl Autumn Orange.

All New 2019 Maruti Wagonr 4

The all-new WagonR gets the HEARTECT platform, which also underpins many other Maruti Suzuki cars like the Baleno, Swift, Ignis and Dzire. The overall dimension of the new WagonR has increased and it has become longer, wider and taller than the current generation WagonR. The upcoming WagonR looks quite similar to the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and offers a similar dimension and wheelbase too. It is now 35mm longer and 125mm wider, which translates into roomier cabin space.

All New 2019 Maruti Wagonr 1

The all-new WagonR gets thoroughly updated. It gets new bumpers with new dual-channel headlamps. There is a slim stripe in between and the roof gets a floating-type effect, thanks to the black inserts on the C-Pillar. The all-new WagonR also gets new tall tail lamps that look similar to the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

All New 2019 Maruti Wagonr 2

Just like the current model, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki WagonR will also offer three variants – LXi, VXi and ZXi. The version seen here is VXi AMT version. It gets dual-tone dashboard with a floating-type infotainment system. In ZXi, the infotainment system is touchscreen and gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The all-new WagonR also gets a new steering wheel that gets mounted buttons to control the infotainment system and the Bluetooth-connected smartphone.

Keeping up with the upcoming safety rules, the all-new WagonR will offer a range of standard features. The driver-side airbag, ABS+EBD, speed warning, rear parking sensors and seatbelt reminder system will be standard across the variants. The top-end trim may get the co-driver airbag too.

Maruti Suzuki will offer two engine options with the all-new WagonR. There will be the good old 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 68 Bhp in the LXi and some of the VXi variants. The ZXi and some of manual VXi variant will get powered by the 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine that generates around 83 Bhp. However, Maruti has not announced the final power output of the hatchback. Both the engine options get the AMT automatic transmission. At the time of the launch, Maruti will not offer a CNG variant but it may get added at a later stage.

All New 2019 Maruti Wagonr 3

The HEARTECT platform is expected to reduce the weight of the all-new WagonR by around 40-60 kg. This, in turn, will increase the fuel efficiency of the WagonR and will also increase the performance. The all-new WagonR will take directly on the Hyundai Santro in the market. The Tata Tiago is another competitor. It’s likely to be priced at around Rs. 4 lakhs for the base variant. The new car’s larger size will give it an edge over rivals.

Lawyer moves Supreme Court against cheating petrol pumps

$
0
0

An advocate has moved the Supreme Court of India seeking direction to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The advocate alleges that the customers do not get the amount of fuel they have paid for and are cheated by the fuel pumps across India.

The advocate has suggested that government should take measures such as installing transparent hose pipes in the fuel dispensers instead of the regular black ones that are currently used and has also suggested that transparent fuel dispensers should be installed to avoid customers being feeling cheated by the pumps.

The advocate named Amit Sahni claims that fuel stations across the country have made the stealing a business process. According to the lawyer, fuel pumps install microchips in the dispensers that can cut the fuel output by as much as ten per cent while the meter reading speeds up. He also added that high-tech remotes are used to control these chips.

Advocate Sahni has filed a petition through Preeti Singh in the court and his petition says,

“The Culprits, who are indulged in cheating at Petrol Pumps in connivance with either the concerned department or Police, should not be permitted to become rich by continuously permitting them to cheat public at large, thereby discouraging honesty. By the new methods of cheating, the culprits change the programme in the ICs (Integrated Circuits) placed in the dispensers by tampering with the pulse cards, motherboards, control cards and keypads to ensure dispensing of lesser fuel from the dispenser to the customers. In certain cases, the pulse board of the fuel dispenser was rigged using a microchip so that a lesser amount of fuel will be delivered to the customers than what is displayed,”

He first appealed to the government to take actions on this. However, the government did not act on the same, which caused Sahni to move to the Supreme Court. There have been many cases across India where the fuel stations have been caught cheating through various methods. The union government had advised the state governments to conduct frequent surprise checks at the fuel stations to catch the culprits and reduce the frauds. The government also mentioned such microchips that alter the reading on the dispenser.

Many fuel stations across India offer various methods to verify the quantity and quality of the fuel on customer’s request. We are not sure how the transparent hose pipe and the dispenser would work to decrease such frauds. It is difficult to accurately tell if there’s a difference of 10% in the dispensed fuel just by looking at it. But now that the matter is in Supreme Court, we can expect a hearing soon on the matter.

Meanwhile, most petrol bunks run by state-owned oil companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum have measuring jars. These measuring jars can be used by the customer to measure the quantity of fuel if she/he feels that the fuel station is pilfering fuel while dispensing.

Restored Rajdoot ‘Bobby’ GTS looks like a brand new bike

The Rajdoot GTS 175 was quite a popular bike during its time. Often refereed to as the monkey bike due to its hunched seating position and low powered engine, it was made more popular by Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor when he used the motorcycle in the famous flick ‘Bobby’. It is from here that this bike got its Bobby nickname, which has stuck with its till now.

Not many perfect examples of this 70s bike remain now. However, R Deena Dayalan, an avid motorcycle collector and restoration expert from Mysore has restored an old GTS 175 to its original glory and the bike looks as fresh as a daisy.

Restored Rajdoot Gts 175 Featured

Looking at the bike one can’t say that it was in quite a bad condition some time back. According to the owner of the motorcycle, the Bobby is hard to get and he got the one through one of his Facebook friends after he saw some pictures of the motorcycle. At the time when he bought the pocket bike, it was in a bad shape but not beyond repair. The bike cost him a sum of about Rs. 45,000, after which he had to spend another Rs. 35,000 to bring the beauty back to its original essence. On how the spare parts were sourced, the owner says that he got several parts of the Rajdoot GTS 175 from Delhi. A total of three months were spent on the bike in order to make it a gleaming beauty again.

Restored Rajdoot Gts 175 3

Coming to the motorcycle, the Rajdoot GTS 175 seen above retains the stock parts and the original styling as on the original classic. Design elements like chrome panels on the front and rear fender, on the headlight mask, engine covers and on the sides of the fuel tank resemble the original GTS 175. The matching shiny blue paint job further adds up to the overall look of the motorcycle. Attention to detail is also on an excellent level, which can be seen in the way shock absorbers have been bathed in chrome and the body coloured exhaust pipe heat shield on the right-hand side of the GTS 175,  accompanied by a spare wheel. The spare wheel is covered with a cover to not make it a sore point on the bike.

Restored Rajdoot Gts 175 2

Moving on, the Rajdoot GTS 175 gets powered by a 173cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke engine that churns out 7.5 Bhp of power along with 12.7 Nm of torque. The same engine was also found on full-size Rajdoot motorcycles. However, the GTS 175 weighs a mere 93 kg, which translates into it having a much better high power-to-weight ratio. Braking duties are done by drum brakes present on on both wheels. Spring type shock absorbers do the suspension duties. The motorcycle was India’s first mini-bikes, a precursor to the Honda NAVi that’s currently available in the Indian market. Kudos to the hard work and dedication of the owner who has restored the bike to immaculate condition.

Yamaha R15 V3 gets remote lock/unlock for just Rs. 1,000 [Video]

Remote locking is a feature is common on cars and SUVs. However, that is not the case anymore now, since now even bikes can be equipped with the feature. The Yamaha R15 in the video below has been equipped with a similar system. The bike has even been fitted with keyless ignition and safety alarm, all of which can be controlled with the touch of a button.

Let’s now take a look at this video below by rohit kumar which demonstrates the usage and functionality of all these features on an R15.

The R15 has just received a mild update last week and is now equipped with ABS. The company has decided to go for a dual channel setup rather than the more cheaper single channel setup which many other manufacturers are using. Coming back to the bike featured in the video, the red and black R15 has been fitted with a system which enables it to be remotely locked and also gets keyless ignition along with safety alarm system. All of it can be controlled via a handheld remote that can be used as a keychain too.

R15 Remote Lock

Using a button on the remote, one can set the bike to be locked and safety alarm system gets activated. Now if someone tries to insert a key and turn the bike on, the alarm will start too sound. Also, if someone sits on your bike while it is parked and the safety alarm system is set to on, the alarm will start blaring. You can unlock your bike with the help of remote when you are at a distance from it and just ride away when you reach it. Also, the system allows you to get your bike started without using the key. However, keyless ignition requires the handle to be unlocked, because handle lock can only be opened by the key.

The whole system shown in the video can be bought for about Rs. 1,000. Hunting around a bit more can land you an even better deal. The installation procedure too is not much complicated as all the system wiring is pre -done and only the power ends are to be connected to the battery along with proper placement of the parts that come in the package. The whole system not only makes your bike look cool but also enhances its practicality.

R15 4

The R15 is easily among the most sporty bike in its segment. It is powered by a 155 cc engine that churns out a good 18.7 Bhp of peak power at 10,000 rpm along with a 15 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox, which also offers a slipper clutch for rapid downshifting.

The engine gets liquid cooling, fuel injection and a four valve head among others. The Yamaha R15 V3 is the costliest 150cc motorcycle on sale in India. Yet, demand for the motorcycle is quite high thanks to terrific performance, ravishing looks, plenty of features and excellent quality levels.

Honda will be hoping to break new ground with the new naked sportsbike.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R superbike launched in India

Japanese motorcycle maker Kawasaki has just launched India’s only 600cc super sports machine, the Ninja ZX6R. The superbike is priced at Rs. 10.5 lakhs, ex-showroom. Over the past few weeks, Kawasaki dealers have been accepting  bookings for this motorcycle. Deliveries will begin from early next month. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R is imported into  India as a completely built unit (CBU).

Kawasaki Ninja Zx6r

As of now, there’s no direct competition for this motorcycle, which is aimed mainly at those seeking a 600cc  superbike for trackdays. Also, this motorcycle is for those who find 1,000cc supersports bikes such as the Kawasaki  Ninja ZX10R and the Yamaha R1 way too powerful.

An engine that revs up to 13,500 rpm, adjustable suspension and an aggressive riding position make it quite suited  for riding on the track. The motorcycle is powered by an inline-4 cylinder, 636cc engine that produces 130 Bhp of  peak power at 13,500 rpm and 70.8 Nm of peak torque at 11,000 rpm.

Clearly, this is a motor that needs to be revved high for maximum performance. The gearbox is a 6 speed manual unit with a quick shifter. Kawasaki offers 3 stage traction control, ABS and two riding modes as the key safety aids on  this motorcycle. There are two disc brakes on the front wheel and one disc brake on the rear wheel.

Bridgestone Battlax tubeless tyres are standard with the 17 inch alloy wheels. As for suspension, the Ninja ZX6R gets  a Showa’s Separate Function Fork -and a piggyback monoshock. The closest rivals to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R currently is the Triumph Street Triple RS. However, the RS is designed to predominantly be a street bike, much unlike the Ninja ZX6R, whose main focus is the race track.

A lof ot riders who are interested in enjoying the immense amount of performance such motorcycles offer are taking to the race track on weekends. The race track helps riders hone their riding skills and also safely explore the performance that such bikes are capable of. Regular Indian roads are way too unsafe for the speeds that these  motorcycles are capable of with just a twist of the throttle. It is also important to ‘remember that with ‘great power comes great responsibility’. Riders opting for such motorcycles need to use the best safety gear available, and always ride sanely.

Mr. Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director, India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd said,

We are happy to introduce Ninja ZX-6R, which has done remarkably well in WorldSSP racing competitions. It not only had good number of pole positions, but also won the championship twice in last four years. While the Ninja ZX 6R is performing well in various international racing competitions, we are sure our customers in India will enjoy riding this supersport bike. After pre-booking announcement, we have received overwhelming response with excellent number of bookings. We are confident and positive about the performance of our Ninja ZX-6R in the Indian market.

Maruti Ciaz to get a new diesel engine next month?

Just weeks ago, information regarding the new turbocharged diesel engine Suzuki engineers have developed in house to replace the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel surfaced. Now, a Team-BHP member has stated that the new, 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel engine will be offered in the Maruti Ciaz from next month. It is unclear if the new diesel engine will meet Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms right from the outset.

New Maruti Ciaz

Meanwhile, here’s the quote from the Team-BHP thread,

Maruti has started training for New Ciaz 1.5 diesel. As expected, the car has 6 speed MT. Waiting for birdies to comment on VGT / FGT turbo. The car will be launched next month.

This is unlikely to happen considering the fact that BS6 compliance will shoot up prices of the car. As Maruti just  launched the facelifted Ciaz a few months ago, sharply increasing the price of the diesel version is a shock that the  automaker is unwilling to give the customer. Instead, the 1.5 liter diesel engine is likely to meet BS4 emission  norms, and continue to be offered alongside the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel.

So, from next month, the Maruti Ciaz buyer could be able to choose between the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine,  which makes 89 Bhp-200 Nm, and the 1.5 liter newly developed diesel with 94 Bhp-225 Nm. While the 1.3 liter diesel is paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox, the new diesel engine will use a 6 speed manual gearbox. It’s unlikely to be  offered with an automatic gearbox.

Sometime next year, Maruti is expected to phase out the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet engine from the Ciaz’s line-up,  replacing it with the BS6 compliant 1.5 liter diesel. BS6 emission norms compliance is expected to steeply push up  the price of the Ciaz Diesel. The Maruti Ciaz won’t be the only car to receive the new engine. A range of Maruti cars  – from the recently launched Ertiga MPV to the S-Cross crossover – will receive the 1.5 liter diesel engine.

What remains to be seen is whether the mild hybrid system that Maruti offers with the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel  will be carried over to the newly developed diesel engine. More details are likely to surface in the coming weeks.  The 1.5 liter diesel engine developed in-house by Suzuki will be a stop-gap arrangement for the medium term, until  demand for diesel cars exists.

In the long term, Maruti is expected to shift towards full hybrids and electric cars. The automaker has tied up with  Toyota for hybrid vehicle technology, and the first Maruti car to feature this technology will be the badge-  engineered version of the Corolla Altis. The Corolla Altis with the Maruti badge will be launched in 2020. In the  same year, Maruti will also launch the electric version of the new WagonR. Clearly, Maruti is looking beyond the  diesel engine.

Maruti Baleno Facelift: This is what it’ll look like

$

Maruti Suzuki’s successful premium hatchback, the Baleno, is all set to receive a facelift soon. The mid-life facelift is aimed to give the car a new refreshed look and keep up with the competition, which is populated by the likes of Hyundai i20 Elite and the Honda Jazz. As for the launch, the company has not revealed any official date for its release.

However, it is expected that Maruti Suzuki will launch the car on 27th of January, 2019. The big question now is how the new Baleno will look like. For answering the same, here is  CarToq render of the 2019 Baleno facelift.

Baleno Facelift

As quite evident by the picture above itself, the new Baleno facelift will not come with any sort of radical transformation, both on the outside and the inside. However, what Maruti Suzuki has done here is to give small tweaks to the vehicle all around in order to make it smarter and better than the current model. Talking of changes made on the car, a new headlamp cluster now dons the place of the old ones and carries a similar design which is reminiscent of the Baleno RS, which means that they carry a smoked look now.

The biggest change, however, would be the new redesigned bumper that changes the whole look of the premium hatchback. Compared to the current model, the new Baleno gets a bumper that has a bigger rectangular air dam flanked by vertical fog lamp housings that give an aggressive look to the vehicle. The chrome slat across the bottom of the grille is also a lot chunkier than before in a bid to give the car a more premium look. Apart from this, we can expect updated rear bumper and tail lamps to complete the whole look. Also, as has been seen as a new trend, Maruti could offer a new set of alloy wheels too in a bid to give the car a new look. The new wheels would only be available on the top trim though.

Coming to the interiors, they will more or less remain the same with just small changes made in order to refresh the look and feel.  Maruti may update the instrument cluster’s dials but the functions will remain the same. The seats may get new upholstery with premium fabrics. The company may also update the dashboard with wooden inserts as seen on the dashboard of new Ciaz. Apart from that, everything else is expected to remain the same. Maruti will offer similar features that are available with the current model of the Baleno. with no changes to the feature list.

As it is just a mild facelift, the engine options and specifications on the new Baleno will remain the same as found on the current model. This means that the same old 1.2 litre K12 petrol engine will continue to do its duty along with the trusted 1.3 litre diesel engine. Speaking of which, the 1.2 litre K12 petrol engine churns out a good 83 Bhp of power along with 115 Nm of torque. The 1.3 litre diesel unit, on the other hand, puts out a total of 74 Bhp of power along with 190 Nm of torque.

The sporty RS variant features a more powerful 1.0 litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power 101 Bhp along with 150 Nm of torque. The diesel and the 1.0 litre motor come with only a manual transmission option while the petrol gets an option between manual or CVT automatic transmission.

Post its launch, the Baleno facelift will strengthen the company’s position in the premium hatchback segment. Baleno has always been a good volume driver for the company. The premium hatchback segment will soon get a new entrant in the form of the Tata 45X, which is expected to be the most feature rich vehicle upon its launch. However, for now the Baleno seems to have a straight road ahead and will continue to bring in more sales for the company.

Renault Captur is now a LOT cheaper than the Duster: Here’s how

$
0
0

The Renault Captur was launched by the company to take advantage of the growing compact SUV and crossover market in India. The Captur is quite a stylish product with a hint of French flair in its design as well as the interiors. However, the car never really took off the way Renault wanted it to and ended up being one of the least successful product in the company lineup.

In order to dish out the old stock and attract more buyers towards the crossover, Renault is currently offering a huge discount worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs on the Captur. This is the highest discount ever to be offered on the car and with this, it becomes even cheaper than its other younger sibling, the Duster.

Now while the Duster is cheaper than the Captur when comparing the various trims of both the cars, with the current discount scheme, the Capture gets an even lower asking price on some particular trims. The base petrol RXE trim available on the Captur, which retailed for Rs. 12.23 lakhs earlier, is now available at just Rs. 10.86 lakhs. However, prices of the top-spec diesel variant, the Captur Platine Dual Tone, get a huge discount of Rs 2.58 lakh. With the discount applied, the price drop from Rs 17.16 lakh to Rs 14.58 lakh. To put things into perspective, the top end diesel Duster (RXZ 4X4 110 PS) retails at Rs. 15.44 lakhs. This means that the difference between the top end Captur and the top end Duster is now about Rs. 1 lakh, which is not a small difference by any means.

The Captur is among the most stylish crossovers out there and is directly pitched at the Hyundai Creta, which is the current segment leader. The Captur has a tough build quality and good levels of fit and finish. It also has the best ride quality among its rivals and offers excellent level of refinement. The diesel engine is decently powerful too and can easily take up a full load of passengers without complaining.

Talking of the engines, the Renault Captur comes with both a petrol and a diesel engine, spread across multiple trims. The 1.5 litre petrol engine churns out 105 Bhp of power along with 142 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel unit, on the other hand, churns out 109 Bhp of power along with 240 nm of torque. The Renault Captur only gets manual transmission options, which is either a 5 speed unit or a six speed one.

Despite being a decent package, the Captur hasn’t really set the sales charts on fire. The company earlier offered huge discounts on the 2017 stock to finish it off and 2018 seems to be no better for the company. In between December 2017 to Novmber 2018, Renault only sold 2,912 units of the Duster. I spite of all the discounts and schemes which were on offer, the Captur didn’t quite capture the buyers it was intended to.

All prices mentioned are on-road, Mumbai.

New Maruti WagonR: 6 new teaser videos show more

$
0
0

The second half of January is going to be quite action packed with almost all dates booked for a car or bike launch. Among the various cars that will be launched in the next 15 days, one of the most awaited one is the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. The tallboy design hatchback has been making waves since quite a while now and with the reveal of its new features and design, the company has been successful in creating just the right hype before the launch.

Let’s now take a look at some of the features and exterior design elements of the new WagonR.

Vibrant Smartplay Studio

The upcoming WagonR will be the first one in India to sport a touchscreen infotainment system. Dubbed as the Vibrant smartplay Studio by the company, it will come with Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity. Though the exact dimension of the screen is not yet revealed, we expect it to be a 7 inch unit. It will be positioned at the top center of the dashboard and will be an integrated unit rather than a floting one. Hyundai also offers the a touch infotainment system on the Santro and therefore it’s quite logical for Maruti to do the same.

Sculpted Design

The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR is an all new vehicle and though it carries the family DNA forward, it still has a different design than the current model. The rear tail lights, for example look quite good and seem similar to Volvo’s tail lights, albeit in a cheaper avatar. The C-pillar gets a black panel connecting the rear window to the tail gate. Though the overall design is still boxy to say the least, it is much more refined than the current car.

Muscular Side Body

The side body of the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR gets deep creases above the fenders across all the wheels. Also, the company has tried to keep the design as stylish and trendy as a tall boy design wold alloy. The top model of the WagonR would be getting bigger wheels too this time around. They would certainly provide a better looking side profile to the car.

Dual-Split Headlamps

The headlamp units on the new WagonR are quite large and squarish in shape. However, they are split horizontally and are swept back to make them more appealing. The upper portion houses the bulb while the lower area houses the turn indicator. There is also a distinctive C-shaped cut on the outer side of the headlamps, which makes them look better.

More Powerful Engine

Maruti has equipped the new WagonR with a new 1.2 litre petrol engine, while the 1.0 litre engine would remain the same as found on the current one. The 1.2 litre unit churns out a good 83 Bhp of power along with 113 Nm of torque. A choice of automatic AMT transmission along with a manual is also provided. The car is built upon company’s fifth generation Heartect platform which is much stronger and yet lighter than the current platform

Larger in size and all new Design

The new WagonR by Maruti Suzuki is now longer and wider by the older models by quite a margin. It also has a longer wheelbase, which translates into better cabin space. The exterior design features several new elements such as newly designed sleeker ORVMs, a better looking tail end with Volvo-esque lights along with a new front fascia along with stretched headlights. Overall, Maruti has managed to retain the WagonR family DNA in the new car whilst making it more modern and better looking.
