Bajaj’s edgy new Urbanite electric scooter to debut by Diwali 2019

The festive season of 2019 is when Bajaj Auto will go back to its roots of building scooters. But this time around, Bajaj will approach scooters in a completely different way. The two wheeler giant plans to re-enter the scooter segment with an electric scooter. The new brand of electric two wheelers from Bajaj will be called Urbanite, and it’s been set up to build and market attractive electric two wheelers that Rajiv Bajaj claims will be the Tesla equivalent of two wheelers.

Bajaj Urbanite Electric Scooter

While Bajaj is yet to reveal the exact shape and performance that the new electric scooter will have, the timeline for launch has been confirmed by a director at Bajaj Auto, Mr Rakesh Sharma. Here’s what he had to say about the Urbanite electric vehicle brand to MoneyControl.

“The Urbanite will hopefully start to make an appearance in 6-9 months. We will present it in a small way and then sort of build it up… With the Urbanite we are really trying to look at innovative and very futuristic intra-city mobility solutions. We’re starting with two-wheelers because that’s the natural way of thinking for us. But I would not rule out other formats. We will look at a separate network for this (electric vehicles) because that needs to be presented very differently to a very different target group.”

Currently, the most advanced electric scooter sold in India is built by Bangalore-based electric mobility start up called Ather Energy. Promoted by Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy produces the S340 electric scooter that’s sold in two variants but whose sales are currently limited to a single city – Bangalore. In the next few months, Ather plans to expand into other cities of India but the slow expansion shows how limited the demand for electric vehicles is.

Although electric scooters have been around in India for a few years now, mass market adoption has not yet taken off in a big way. The twin problems of a poor range and lack of widespread battery charging infrastructure have been major bottlenecks that are restricting the growth of electric two wheelers. In the coming years, all this could change as the biggies of the two wheeler industry such as Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors are readying up electric scooters for the Indian market.

Once the bigger players get into this segment, the market for electric vehicle is likely to expand quickly. For now though, the Ather S340 remains the only aspirational, Tesla-like electric vehicle in the two wheeler space. Bajaj wants to change this with the Urbanite brand, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Pune-based two wheeler giant manages to do this.

Can a Yamaha R15 tow a 2,000 Kg Tata Safari Storme? [Video]

We often see big towing trucks and cranes hauling massive SUVs on the Indian roads. Well, do you think small displacement bikes can do that job? Here is a Tata Safari Storme that is hooked to the Yamaha YZF-R15.

Yamaha R15 towing Safari Storme?

The video shows a Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 towing a heavy Tata Safari Storme without much problem. The video shows that the Tata Safari Storme is tied to the bike with the help of the chassis. This allows the bike chassis to tether properly to the Tata Safari’s towing hook. The Yamaha YZF R15 can be seen pulling the heavy Tata Safari Storme for a few metres. It does not look like the bike had to put in a lot of effort to pull the Safari Storme.

The vehicle was towed at slow speed in a controlled environment where there was no traffic. The Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 was powered by a 149cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces a maximum power of 17 Bhp and peak torque of 15 Nm. It came with a 6-speed transmission. The Tata Safari Storme weighs a massive 1,918 kg, and the weight can go to 1,950 kg depending on the variant.

R15 Safari Featured 1

Now, we are sure that the Tata Safari was moving due to the force exerted by the Yamaha YZF R15. There was no one sitting in the Safari Storme, which makes the claim much stronger. Now the Yamaha YZF R15 V2 came with a 6-speed transmission. The first gear of the R15 is extremely short, and it is made like that to provide quick acceleration. The shorter gear helps the engine rev more freely and reach the maximum power range quickly. This is one of the reasons why the Yamaha R15 could pull off such a heavy vehicle. Also, it was for a short distance and extremely slow speed. It would have been difficult to tow such a heavy vehicle at higher speed.

The bike also towed it for a few meters just to demonstrate. It was a flat surface, and if it were an incline, the job would have been extremely difficult for the bike. Towing such heavy objects puts an immense amount of pressure and stress on the engine and transmission, and it should not be done until it is absolutely necessary.

Most of the modern vehicles, especially cars get a towing rating that indicates the maximum towing weight that the vehicle can handle. Keeping below the towing weight ensures longer life of the engine and the transmission. The transmission can wear out quicker, and the same can happen with the engine of the vehicle.

Many cars have been doing promotional activities where they are involved in towing much bigger objects. Tata Hexa towed an Airbus 320 sometime back while the Land Rover Discovery Sport was used to tow a train. Such marketing gimmicks show how capable the vehicle is, but it should not be done regularly to keep the engine and transmission safe.

Tata Harrier shows off its street presence next to a Renault Duster

The Renault Duster is a butch, wide SUV. But just see how the recent upstart in the SUV segment – the Tata Harrier –  simply manages to look a lot more imposing than the Duster. And it’s not the design alone that gives the Harrier its  imposing stance. In terms of dimensions, the Tata Harrier is a lot larger than the Duster (4,598 mm vs 4,341 mm), and  the extra width you see in the pictures is actually what you get (1,898 mm vs 1,804 mm). And it’s a taller SUV than the Duster (1,714 mm vs 1,795 mm). The pictures below underscore these points.

Tata Harrier Renault Duster 1

Images courtesy Samba

Now, it’s obviously not fair to compare the Tata Harrier with the Renault Duster because the Harrier is a lot more  pricier (prices start from Rs. 12.69 lakhs) when compared to the Duster (prices now start from just Rs. 7.99 lakhs).  However, there’s a slight overlap between the top-end Duster Diesel RxZ and the base Tata Harrier, which means that some Duster buyers may be tempted to upgrade to the Harrier. In terms of specifications as well, the Harrier and Duster are quite distinct.

The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2 liter turbocharged diesel engine that puts out 140 Bhp-350 Nm. The gearbox is a  six speed manual unit driving the front wheels of the SUV. The Duster offers many more engine options – a 1.6 liter  petrol with 104 Bhp and 140 Nm, with 5 speed manual and CVT automatic options, a 1.5 liter turbo diesel in 84 Bhp 200 Nm state of tune and a 5 speed manual gearbox, a 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine in 108 Bhp-240 Nm state of tune with 6 speed manual and AMT options, and finally an all wheel drive option on the top-end diesel.

Tata Harrier Renault Duster 2

So, if you’re looking for various engine and transmission options, the Duster clearly has the Harrier covered, and at  a much cheaper price tag. But then the Harrier does have the novelty value going for it, along with its imposing stance, and as you go higher up the variant, massive levels of equipment. The Harrier is easily the most well  equipped car that Tata Motors has ever produced and even the larger, more expensive Hexa pales in comparison when it comes to equipment levels.

Tata Harrier Renault Duster 3

The Tata Harrier’s top-end trim is offered with automatic projector HIDs, cornering fog lamps, LED DRLs, rear parking  sensors, rear wiper, rear washer and defogger, electrically adjustable ORVM, four disc brakes, front console with sliding armrest, rear center armrest with two cup holders, six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program  (ESP), ISOFIX anchor points, traction control, 17-inch alloy wheels, power-folding wing mirrors, puddle lamps, rain  sensing wipers, cruise control, hill hold and descent control and rollover mitigation, rear parking camera, leather  seats and soft-touch leather for the dashboard, 8-way adjustable driver seat, 8.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker JBL system with amplifier and a 7-inch TFT screen for the instrument cluster.

Clearly, the Harrier is a much better equipped car that also commands a Rs. 16.25 lakh price tag, which is a Rs. 3 lakh price premium over the top-end Renault Duster.

Car Sales Continue to Decline, Passenger Vehicle Sales Fall 1.8 Percent

Passenger vehicle manufacturers in the country are having a tough time selling their models in India. The sales in January 2019 saw a decline of 1.87 percent, as manufacturers continued to cut inventory at dealers following tepid festive season.

Maruti Showroom

According to data compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger vehicle sales fell 1.87 percent to 2.80 lakh units in January 2019 from 2.85 lakh units same month last year. Data also revealed that domestic car sales slipped 2.65 percent in January 2019 to 1.79 lakh units from 1.84 lakh units in January 2018.

Not just cars but two-wheeler sales in country also saw a decline. Only 15.97 lakh units of two-wheelers were sold in January as compared to the 16.84 lakh units sold same month last year. While vehicles across categories registered a decline of 4.68 percent to 20.19 lakh units from 21.18 lakh units in January 2018, sales of commercial vehicles were going up. It saw a growth of 2.2 percent to 87,591 units in January.

The muted response by consumers has also resulted in car makers continuing with discounts to clear their stocks. Nikunj Sanghi, director (international affairs) of Federation of Automotive Dealers Association said,

Discounts on cars are quite high this fiscal. It is not a good picture. Inventories are higher and companies want to clear the stock.

During the month of January India’s largest car manufacturer saw a marginal growth of 0.18 percent. Hyundai Motors India posted a growth of 0.65 percent and Indian brand Mahindra and Mahindra saw a growth 0.88 percent in its Passenger vehicle sales.

Honda Cars India Ltd was an exception in this case. They saw a strong double-digit growth of 51.67 percent in the passenger vehicle segment. Honda Amaze which was launched last year is the best seller for the brand, followed by WR-V and Honda City. Honda sold a total of 14,383 units in January 2019.

Rising vehicle prices, weaker buyer sentiment, lack of vehicle financing availability are some of the reason that have impacted the sales of passenger vehicles in the country last month. Manufacturers feel that announcement of additional benefits in Direct Taxes in the recent interim budget is likely to improve the consumer sentiments in the coming months.

Honda CB 300R with an aftermarket exhaust sounds real ANGRY [Video]

The Honda CB 300R is a naked street bike that’s been on sale in international markets of South East Asia for a few months now, and a range of accessories are already available for the motorcycle. The aftermarket exhaust is one of the most common accessories that motorcycle buyers opt for. Here’s one such aftermarket exhaust for the Honda CB 300R, and with the exhaust on, the motorcycle sounds quite angry.

Of course, such exhausts are not legal, which means that there’s always the risk of a cop or an RTO official stopping a modified motorcycle and fining the rider, and in the worst case, seizing the motorcycle. On private roads and on the racetrack, such exhausts are perfectly legal though. In fact, most aftermarket exhaust manufacturers specify that the exhausts they build and sell are meant for off-road use or for track racing.

As of now, Honda has not revealed an official line up of accessories for the CB 300R. It’s always advisable to opt for official accessories offered by the manufacturer as it helps keep warranty intact. Since the CB 300R is imported into India through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route, offering accessories that are already available in international markets should be quite straight forward.

The Honda CB 300R that’s gone on sale in India is priced at Rs. 2.41 lakhs, ex-showroom India, which takes the on road price of the motorcycle to a little over Rs. 3 lakhs. Compared to the much more powerful and faster KTM Duke 390, the CB 300R’s pricing seems quite premium. Honda will be relying on the higher perceived quality levels and refinement that the brand is known for. The neo-retro styling of the motorcycle could also be a major selling point of the CB 300R as a lot of people find the Duke’s styling too edgy and loud for their liking.

Honda Cb 300r Side Profile

A good bit about the Honda CB 300R is its weight, or rather the lack of it. The motorcycle’s kerb weight sits at 147 Kgs, which makes it the lightest in its segment. This light weight ensures that the Honda CB 300R has enough juice to hit a speedo indicated speed of 160 Kph. The motorcycle is powered by a 286cc four stroke engine that makes 30.5 Bhp of peak power and 27.5 Nm of peak torque. A six speed manual gearbox is standard with this engine, but there’s no slipper clutch on offer.

What is instead offered is a class leading inertial measurement unit (IMU) that’s integrated with the motorcycle’s anti-lock braking system. The IMU distributes braking force evenly and helps the motorcycle stay upright even under very hard emergency braking situations. The Honda CB 300R offers an upright stance to the rider with a tall handlebar in place. The handlebar is rubber mounted, and this is meant to reduce vibrations. The riding stance is sporty though, with rear set footpegs. The motorcycle is meant for everyday riding, and the occasional weekend ride around town.

Mahindra XUV300 vs Ford EcoSport: Road presence compared for the first time [Video]

$

0

Mahindra recently launched their new subcompact SUV in the market. Called the XUV300, it has been priced at Rs. 7.90 lakhs for the base petrol model while the top end diesel variant retails for Rs. 10.80 lakhs. In its segment, the  SUV competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and Tata Nexon among others.

Among these, the Ford Ecosport has been present in the market for the longest duration and is a fairly popular vehicle. It will also be one of the more serious rival to the XUV300 since it too is quite feature loaded and has powerful engine option. However, the question now is how do these two SUV compare to each other when it comes to road presence. For the same, here is a video by RIDER 3003 which shows both the SUV alongside each other.

While there is no doubt in the fact that the Ecosport is one good sub compact SUV, the XUV300 does have an advantage in terms of road presence. This can be attributed to the fact that it is the most fresh vehicle in the lot and also is the widest vehicle in the segment. Those straight lines and square face further make it look bigger than it actually is. Since the XUV300 is based on the Tivoli which is larger than 4 meters in length, it has got a similar big SUV stance despite being shortened to be under 4 meters. The XUV300 may look taller than the Ecosport in the video and pictures here, but in actual its the Ecosport which is more taller than the other.

Xuv300 Vs Ecosport 2

The rear end of the XUV300 feels like things were done in a hurry by the time designers reached the rear end of the SUV. However, there is a good reason why the rear end looks a bit quirky. Mahindra chose to not cut down on the wheelbase when the Tivoli was being trimmed so as to make its length under 4 meters. This has led to the XUV300 getting a wheelbase that is the longest in the segment; though at the cost of the rear end looking a bit like it was abruptly shortened. Nonetheless, the LED tail lamps do brighten up things at night.

Xuv300 Vs Ecosport

The XUV300 has a monocoque body as is the norm with new age SUVs. Mahindra has made sure that the new SUV does not fall short on any aspect and hence has loaded up the SUV with a host of features, including many segment firsts. This includes dual-zone climate control system, 7-airbags, disc brakes on all wheels and steering modes among others. Other features include cruise control system, sunroof, leather seats, touchscreen infotainment system, ABS+EBD and more. On the safety front, the XUV300 again comes with class leading features like 7 airbags, ABS+EBD, ESP, roll over mitigation, hill Hold, disc brakes on all four wheels, front parking sensors, rear parking sensors + camera, speed alert and seat belt reminder.

17mahindra Xuv300 Pictures

Talking of engine and transmission options, the Mahindra XUV300 is offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a newly developed 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged unit that makes 110 Bhp of peak power and a class leading 200 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine is a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder unit that puts out class leading outputs of 115 Bhp power along with 300 Nm torque. Both engines get 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard. AMT options for both engines will be made available later this year. The drivetrain configuration on the XUV300 is front wheel drive.

Mahindra offers the XUV300 in four variants – W4, W6, W8 and W8 (O), available across two variants. Though the XUV300 is priced at a slight premium over its competition, Mahindra has tried to justify the price tag by using class leading features and engines. It will be interesting to see now how the market of sub compact SUV takes shape now.

2019 Bajaj Dominar gets a 15 % power BOOST, brochure scans now out!

Bajaj is all set to launch the upgraded Dominar 400. Most Bajaj dealers have begun accepting pre-bookings for the motorcycle, and brochure scans of the new Dominar are now out. The scans indicate that the 2019 Bajaj Dominar has gotten nearly 15 % more powerful than the outgoing model, and has gained a couple of kilograms in weight, and kerb weight now sits at a hefty 182.5 kilograms.

2019 Bajaj Dominar Brochure Scan 1

Via Team-BHP

The 2019 Bajaj Dominar makes 39.9 PS of peak power at 8,650 rpm, which is a 4.9 PS increase over the older version 35 PS output. Moreover, peak power was produced at 8,000 rpm on the older bike, which means that the newer version makes power higher up the power band.

Torque output has remained constant at 35 Nm, but the rpm at which it’s produced has also moved up – from 6,500 rpm on the older Dominar to 7,000 rpm on the new bike. The 6 speed manual gearbox with slipper clutch is retained, and it’s not clear if Bajaj has opted for a twin overhead camshaft design in place of the single overhead cam that the  older version featured. The triple spark ignition remains, and oil capacity of the new motorcycle has increased by  200 ml, to 1,700 ml.

2019 Bajaj Dominar Brochure Scan 2

Now, there could be two reasons for the bigger engine oil capacity. 1. Better heat management as the engine now has more oil to dissipate heat and cool off. 2. The addition of twin camshafts making the size of the engine head larger, and consequently needing more engine oil for optimum heat management. We won’t have to wait for long to find out why exactly Bajaj has increased engine oil capacity on the 2019 Dominar.

2019 Bajaj Dominar Brochure Scan 3

Other key engineering changes on the motorcycle include a twin canister exhaust that produces a bassier exhaust note, and upside down front forks that could increase suspension performance significantly. The rear monoshock layout is retained. The new Dominar features a new rear mirror stalk design that could reduce vibration of the mirrors at higher rpms. The fully digital instrument cluster also gets a revision, and will beam out a lot more information than
before.

Other than these changes, Bajaj is likely to have worked on improving the overall refinement of the motorcycle. We’ll  know more about these as the motorcycle launches. For now, what’s clear is the fact that the 2019 Bajaj Dominar will be offered with dual channel ABS as standard. The non-ABS version will no longer be produced as Indian regulations now make ABS compulsary on 125cc+ motorcycles. The facelifted Dominar is expected to be pricier than the outgoing version thanks to the slew of changes it comes with. The older Dominar retailed at Rs. 1.63 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

Royal Enfield Bullet gets STUCK at water crossing: Honda CBR passes like a BOSS [Video]

$

0

Royal Enfield motorcycles for long have been used for long distance touring, especially in the Ladakh region. Thousands of tourists every year rent Royal Enfield bikes or bring them in trains from different corners of the country to ride in the Ladakh region. But how capable are they? This video will demonstrate exactly that.

The video was taken by RIDER 3003 from the helmet-mounted camera during their Spiti ride and it shows how easily the Honda CBR250R crossed the Paagal Naala water crossing while the Royal Enfield Bullet got stuck badly in between and had to be pushed out of the crossing.

The rider on the Honda CBR250R also said that if someone is not well-versed with Royal Enfield bikes and do not know their way around the working of the Enfields, they should not take them to such challenging situations. He also claims that the Royal Enfield Bullet and Thunderbird, which was also present during their Spiti trip created a lot of problems.

Re Stuck

The Royal Enfield Bullet faced a fuse blowout and various other problems with the wiring on the trip as per the video.  He also claims that the Royal Enfield bike could not cross any of the water crossings on its own. But that could be because of the riding style and not the capability of the bike itself. Royal Enfield bikes, apart from the all-new 650 Twins and the Himalayan are powered by lazy single-cylinder engines that need time to rev and build power. They are quite heavier than regular bikes too. New bikers may find it difficult to handle the Royal Enfield bikes at first. Due to the added weight, it may become difficult to handle the Royal Enfield bikes when compared to the regular commuter segment bikes or even entry-level performance bikes.

Why did the Honda CBR cross the water crossing but the Royal Enfield Bullet could not?

One of the main reasons for the Royal Enfield getting stuck in the water crossing is the way it is being ridden. One needs power on tap while crossing such situations and Royal Enfield Bullet’s engine takes time to build the revs and deliver the needed power. One can keep the throttle open and control the power by clutch too but most of the new riders do not know about this technique. Also, tyres can be one of the reasons for not getting a proper grip from the surface. Such water crossings can become very slippery and if the tyre treads are not deep enough to create a proper grip, it can create major problems.

The modern Royal Enfield bikes have become quite reliable. The new-age EFI engines used in the Classic, Thunderbird and the Bullet range is much more reliable than the cast iron engines. Royal Enfield has even increased the warranty on their bikes and most of the motorcycles are available with 2 years or 20,000 km warranty while the new-age Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 are available with 3 years warranty.

India’s first 5 door Mahindra Thar inspired by the Jeep Wrangler is here

$

0

What do you call a 5 door Mahindra Thar? A Bolero! Well, not exactly. Try as it may, the Bolero just doesn’t have the  classic ‘Jeep’ look, which brings us to this story about India’s first 5 door Mahindra Thar. This example is inspired  by the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. And it has some really massive street presence thanks to the meaty 33 inch tyres it’s  riding on.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door 1

Images courtesy RahulVerma on 4X4India

The front end of this modified Jeep is of a typical Thar. You get the round headlamps and the 7 slat Jeep grille. An  angry bird grille makes it look different from the hundreds of Thars on Indian roads while LED headlamps and a  shorted front bumper are other key changes. On the sides, the sheer length of this vehicle is what will strike you  and so will the height thanks to the massive mud terrain tyres shod on alloy wheels.

It seems like this extended wheelbase Thar is based on the DI version as there’s a solid axle up front, along with  leaf spring suspension. The rear suspension also uses leaf springs. The body is lengthened, and the chassis seems to be borrowed from the Bolero/Mahindra Maxx. The longer body means that the second row of seats have enough leg room while leaving enough space for a decent boot.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door 2

At the rear, changes are limited to a tyre carrier, metal bumper and a semi-hard top design where the canopy sits on  top of plywood/metal roof. Such semi-hard top modification jobs are very common in Punjab, and they help the Thar and other Jeeps offer much better weather and noise insulation while retaining the soft top look that a lot of owners simply don’t want to lose.

The Thar DI is powered by a 2.5 liter M2DICR turbocharged diesel engine that makes 63 Bhp of peak power and 180 Nm of peak torque. A five speed manual gearbox is standard while a four wheel drive transfer case is offered as an option. This example also seems to have a four wheel drive layout as there are a lot of extended wheelbase Mahindra vehicles such as the Bolero, Armada and Maxx that have been offered with a four wheel drive layout in the past.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door 3

Coming to the Thar CRDe, the off roader sold in India currently is powered by a 2.5 liter CRDe turbocharged diesel  engine with 105 Bhp-247 Nm. The engine is paired to a five speed manual gearbox and a four wheel drive transfer case with high and low ratios is standard. Mahindra is putting together an all-new Thar for launch in India sometime next year.

The all-new Thar will have a new body, and will sit on the Scorpio platform. The traditional ‘Jeep’ looks are  expected to be maintained though. The all-new Thar will be powered by a brand new, Bharat Stage 6 emission norms compliant 2 liter turbo diesel engine. It’ll pack in airbags and ABS as standard, and is expected to be a lot more refined than the current Thar. It’s also likely to offer better ride quality.

Tata Motors best selling car Tiago has hit a milestone, Company yesterday announced that Tiago hatchback has crossed cumulative sales of two lakh units in the domestic market. Tata Motors launched the Tiago hatchback in Indian market in April 2016.

Tata Tiago Xz+ 1

The Tata Tiago is quite a value for money product and is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Prices start from Rs. 4.2 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. While people were slow to warm up to the Tiago, sales have been steadily growing once buyers realized the sheer value proposition this car offers. And once the word was out about the Tiago’s main strength – value – sales have been on an upswing.

The Tiago JTP is sold via select Tata dealerships across the country. Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) had recently launched the CB 300R.it is a street naked sportsbike that is Honda’s new flagship offering in the big volume, sub-500cc premium motorcycle segment. The CB 300R is priced at Rs 2.41 lakhs, ex showroom Delhi. Honda has now told that they might double the production of CB 300R if the demand goes up.

Honda Cb 300r

Honda mtorcycles India had commenced the booking for this new neo sports cafe motorcycle in January and it received an overwhelming response from the public. The first batch of the motorcycles have already been sold out and the waiting period for CB 300R is now 3 months.

Talking about this to a media house, Yadwinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycles & scooters India has revealed that if they see the demand for the CB 300R is growing, then they will double up the production so that the customer don’t have to wait long. He stressed on the point that doubling production will depend upon the demand of the motorcycle.

The all-new CB300R is available through 22 Honda Wing dealerships in India. The bike can be booked through any of these flagship Honda two-wheeler dealerships in the Indian market for a nominal amount of Rs 5000. The all-new CB300R utilises the same frame that is used by the Honda CBR250R. The bike also gets a similar engine, which has been rebored to 286cc.

The single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine of the CB300R produces a maximum of 31 Bhp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 27.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The main advantage of the Honda CB300R is its weight. It weighs only 147 kg, which makes it extremely easy to ride on the crowded city roads. The Honda CB300R gets a six-speed manual transmission.

The motorcycle is positioned as a naked sportsbike that will be at home both on city streets as well as the highway. Wind protection is minimal though, and speeds of over 120 Kph can get quite uncomfortable over longer durations. A tall flyscreen is what many CB 300R owners who intend to tour on this motorcycle will strongly consider.

Honda CB 300R will compete with bikes like BMW G 310R and KTM 390 Duke. The KTM Duke 390 produces a lot more power and torque (44 Bhp-37 Nm) than the CB 300R, but is slightly costlier, at Rs. 2.43 lakhs. The BMW G 310R, which makes 34 Bhp-28 Nm, is even more pricier at Rs. 2.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. This makes the Honda CB 300R attractively priced, especially as Honda has a reputation for building reliable and fuss free motorcycles.

Govt to give you Rs. 50,000 to buy an electric car

$

Electric vehicles are future of mobility in India as government is coming up with stringent emission norms for petrol and diesel engines on the account of increasing pollution in the major metro cities. In a bid to promote electric vehicles in the country, government is now planning to provide benefits to buyers planning to buy electric vehicles.

Maruti Wagonr Electric

Under this strategy, government will provide a maximum rebate of Rs 50,000 and lower the interest rates on loans. The move is part of the government’s bid to promote the manufacture and sale of EVs in India so that they eventually comprise 15% of total sales from the current negligible share in the next five years.

One of the government official said that the main motive behind this move is to give enough incentives so that the prices of electric vehicles match the current conventional internal combustion engines so that prospective buyers start giving preferences to electric vehicles over conventional vehicles.

The benefits to the buyers will be decided on the basis of the model they choose and the size of battery used in the vehicle. EV buyers are likely to be exempted from parking charges which would result in substantial savings for Electric Vehicles. Many states have also waived off registration fee and road tax for electric vehicles. This might become a pan India procedure once this idea gets implemented.

The biggest reason behind less popularity of electric vehicles in Indian market is the price. Compared to a conventional petrol or diesel engine car, EVs are 2 to 2.5 times more expensive. Another problem is the range. The range of the electric vehicles are very less when compared to conventional vehicles.

If this plan gets implemented, then there is a need of extensive infrastructure development to provide adequate charging points. In a bid to promote EVs in India, government had also reduced the import duty on import of components for electric vehicles. This would in turn attract more manufacturers both Indian and international to manufacture or assemble electric vehicles in the country.

Starting from 2020, which is also the year when the much tighter Bharat Stage 6 emission norms come into place for internal combustion engined cars, a range of electric cars will be launched in India. The country’s leading automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra have lined up electric cars for 2020.

While Maruti will launch the WagonR Electric, Hyundai has readied up the Kona electric SUV. Mahindra, for its part has multiple electric vehicles ready for launch in 2020 including electric variants of the KUV100 and XUV300. Tata Motors will launch the Tiago and Tigor EVs for private car buyers.

Electric Vehicles is the new trend among the car manufacturers. Every manufacturer is planning to enter the electric vehicle space eventually. One such manufacturer is Renault. The French car manufacturer has already confirmed in the past that it is considering to launch an EV for Indian market. Their first EV is likely to be the electric variant on the Kwid hatchback and it was recently spotted testing in the roads of China.

Renault Kwid Electric

Via AutoNewsChina

The Kwid electric is spotted for the first time and from the images it can be seen that the front of the Kwid EV is heavily covered. The profile of the car looks more or less the same. But at the front it seems like the electric version of the new Kwid will get a revised bumper and most likely to get Full LED headlamps.

Details regarding the electric motor, which it is developing in partnership with a Chinese firm, Dongfeng,is not out yet, but Renault has confirmed that it will have a driving range of 250 kms. Renault will introduce the Kwid EV first in the Chinese market where electric vehicles are gaining popularity. After China, Renault is likely to launch this electric vehicle in India. Other markets for the Kwid Electric include Brazil and South Africa – two other developing countries that will move towards electric cars in the coming years.

The Kwid EV is expected to be equipped with premium features such as rear view camera, touch-screen infotainment system, rear AC vents, Automatic AC and more. The instrument cluster is expected to display information regarding distance to empty, remaining battery charge and nearest charging station. Renault India is waiting for clarity on the country’s electric vehicle policy from the government. Once there’s a clear road map for electric vehicles in India, the automaker will launch the Kwid Electric here.

Renault will also offer Kwid’s EV version with double charging option, which will make it compatible with both domestic and public chargers. It is not just Renault, who is preparing to launch electric vehicles in India. Maruti Suzuki has already started the testing of electric version of the WagonR hatchback and Mahindra has also announced that they will be launching the electric version of their recently launched compact SUV XUV300. Another home grown manufacturer Tata motors have already developed an EV version of the Tigor sedan which is used by Indian government’s EESL. Hyundai will soon launch the Kona electric SUV.

Royal Enfield motorcycles and modification have become synonymous in India. The retro modern bikes have a separate fan-base that cherish their bikes like loved ones. In the market of aftermarket mods, custom parts for Royal Enfield bikes can be spotted easily and they are always in top demand. The bikes by Royal Enfield (except the latest 650 twins) maybe a bit dated when it comes to technology and engine efficiency but they score high on character and the typical cruiser bike feel. If you are a fan of modified Royal Enfield bikes, here are 5 examples for you which range for subtle mods to full wacky custom jobs.

Subtle and Classy

51562255 145999906403940 9089988766755182538 N

Starting on a lighter note, this Signals edition Royal Enfield Classic 350 gets minor changes across its body which make it look very attractive. The blacked out handlebars and exhaust pipe are actually not done by the owner but are part of the Signals edition package. Contrasting the blue pain scheme here is the black net placed over the fuel tank, which adds to its visual appeal without even trying. The tail light has been blacked out too while the indicators gets a black grille with vertical slats over them. The custom foot guard has been braided in black which again looks good. All in all, few touches here and there have made this bike look quite cool.

The Blue Bobber

Bobber themed modifications are one of the most popular mod jobs done on Royal Enfield bikes and this Classic turned bobber is a perfect example of that. On this bike, the front and rear tires along with the rims have been replaced with aftermarket units while the fenders have also been cut short and painted black. The rear subframe has been left bare and there is a single retro inspired saddle in place. The shiny blue paint job further adds to the visual drama of this bike and it looks pretty wild.

Modern Menace

43912951 433425207183718 1777773697567622617 N

This modification here shows how a Royal Enfield bike can be turned into a short tailed city brat bike in the best possible way. Done on a RE Classic, The rear end has been chopped and a new custom wheel has been added. The saddle is now a slick single piece unit with integrated LED tail light at the bottom. A tire hugging fender adds further appeal to the bike, while the short piped custom exhaust lends it the necessary sound amplification. The handlebars are now clip on units while the speedometer is a single pod unit, both of which add to the sporty nature of this mod. Done in Shiny black, this custom mod job sure looks slick and suave in one.

Old School Cruiser

51142223 385542532272488 9139617861473535551 N

Many owners use their Royal Enfield for long trips and do interstate trips. The Manali or Ladakh trip on a Royal Enfield is perhaps the wish of every owner of these magnificent bikes. For the same, this one has been given a heavy cruiser look. It features big auxiliary lamps up front and at the rear which provide better illumination during night. A custom thick padded rear seat has been added keeping pillion comfort in mind. The front fender gets a unique triangular design mount while the spoked wheels have been painted black. The bike has been further adorned with a shade of Khaki and black along with a custom silencer to make it sound like riot.

Crazy Horse

If you are done with all the tasteful modifications done above, here is one crazy mod job to spice things up. The video above shows a Royal Enfield Classic whose rear end has been spruced up with a huge custom wheel. The wheel is easily one of the biggest one we have seen on an Enfield and is topped by a massive flat fender.

To incorporate a tire of such huge dimension, a custom swing arm has been used which is wider and longer than the stock unit. The road presence of the bike has gone up several notches with this modification, though we are sure that the handling would’ve gone for a toss.

Bentley Bentayga Speed is world’s fastest SUV: FASTER than Lamborghini Urus

$

0

Lamborghini’s Urus was the world’s fastest SUV until recently. Bentley has now announced the launch of a new Speed variant for its Bentayga SUV, which according to Bentley is “the world’s fastest, most luxurious SUV.” It will make its global debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show and is expected to go on sale later this year.

Bentley Bentayga Speed

The Bentley Bentayga Speed draws power from the existing 6.0 liter twin-turbocharged W12 petrol engine. The power enhancements have increased the power of Bentayga from 608 PS to 635 PS which in turn reduced the 0-60 mph acceleration time from 4.1 seconds to 3.9 seconds.

Bentley also boasts a top speed of a top speed of 190 mph. Exterior details of the Bentayga speed include dark-tint headlights and bumper grills, a tailgate spoiler and 22-inch wheels that are available in three finishes. On the inside, Bentley utilizes Alcantara trim for the first time in the Bentayga range. Other components include diamond-quilted seats, contrast stitching and an illuminated Speed treadplate. Speed branding is also placed at other various locations inside and outside of the car.

Bentley has also announced that Bentayga speed will available in all markets except for EU28, Switzerland, Norway, Ukraine, Turkey, Israel, Vietnam and mainland China from second quarter of 2019. Price of the Bentayga Speed has not been revealed yet. The ordinary Bentayga SUV costs more than 4 crore in the Indian market and the Speed trim is expected to be placed above that.

The Bentley Bentayga super luxury SUV has found many takers in India among the super rich. Mukesh Ambani’s family owns more than one Bentayga while the Poonawallas are the other prominent names to own one. The SUV rivals the recently launched Rolls Royce Cullinan and the much more edgier Lamborghini Urus. The Bentley Bentayga is cheaper than the Rolls Royce while offering similar levels of luxury and much better performance.

Before the Bentayga Speed, Lamborghini Urus was the world’s fastest SUV or SSUV (Super Sports Utility Vehicle). It is powered by a 4.0-litre Twin Turbo V8 engine under the hood, a first in the automaker’s history. The V8 mill is tuned to churn out 641 Bhp of power and 850 Nm of peak torque. The SUV can hit the 0-100 kmph in 3.6 seconds and 200 kmph in 12.8 seconds. Those figures can easily shame a supercar. The Urus has a top speed of 305 kmph which is again a great number considering its size.

Mahindra has come up with a slew of accessories for the XUV300 compact SUV. Prospective buyers and owners of the SUV can log on to this website, and choose the accessories they want for this SUV. The price details of each accessory is available on the website, and the accessories are divided into various sections ranging from Audio/Video/Electronics to Styling. These accessories will not affect the factory warranty of the Mahindra XUV300, and are therefore a safer option than aftermarket accessories, which create the risk of warranty getting voided.

Mahindra Xuv300 Accessories 1

The Mahindra XUV300 was launched in India just days ago. The SUV is a sub-4 meter monocoque offering that rivals the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. Prices of the XUV300 start from Rs. 7.8 lakhs for the  turbocharged petrol version and from Rs. 8.49 lakhs for the turbo diesel version. The XUV300is based on the Ssangyong X100 platform, which also underpins the Tivoli SUV that’s sold in South Korea. In fact, the XUV300 is a shortened version of the Tivoli in order to sit in the sub-4 meter category and quality for excise duty benefits. The SUV gets a full restyling and different engines as well.

The engines in question are a newly developed 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder  turbocharged diesel. While the turbo petrol engine produces 110 Bhp-200 Nm, the turbo diesel motor makes class  leading outputs of 115 Bhp-300 Nm. Both engines offer 6 speed manual gearboxes are drive the front wheels of the SUV. Mahindra has no plans to offer an all wheel drive system with the SUV. However, there are a slew of new variants that the XUV300 will shortly receive.

Mahindra Xuv300 Accessories 2

Among the first of the new variants are AMT trims. Before the end of 2019, Mahindra plans to offer 6 speed AMT  options on both the petrol and diesel variants of the XUV300. The AMT variants will make the XUV300 at par with the Tata Nexon, the only other sub-4 meter compact SUV to offer AMT options with both petrol and diesel engines. Apart from the AMT option, Mahindra is also developing a CNG variant of the SUV. The CNG-Petrol dual fuel option for the XUV300 will become available from early next year, just ahead of the Bharat Stage 6 emission norms, which kick in from April 2020.

Mahindra is also working on an all-electric variant of the XUV300, which will make its Indian debut by the end of  2020. The Auto Expo 2020 is expected to be the event where the XUV300 Electric could be showcased. The electric SUV is expected to offer about 250 kilometers of range, a top speed of about 180 Kph and a 0-100 Kph timing of 11  seconds. The XUV300 Electric will be designed to be an everyday electric SUV that is priced affordably. Watch this  space for more details.

Tata Nexon gets two new safety features [Video]

$
0
0

The Tata Nexon has received two new safety features in order to comply with the upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) norms. The two key safety features added are a seat belt reminder warning system for the passenger seat, and a speed warning.

While the seat belt reminder is a visible warning on the instrument cluster, the speed warning has both visual and audible alerts. Notably, the audible alerts can’t be turned off, and an ECU remap will be needed to eliminate this warning. The video below will give you an idea on how this warning system works.

As the video indicates, the seatbelt reminder is pretty straightforward. As for the speed limit warning system, there  will be a visual alert on the instrument cluster followed by a single beep every minute once the speed of the Tata  Nexon exceeds 80 Kph. Once 120 Kph is exceeded, the visual warning on the instrument cluster will be accompanied by an audible alert that will beep every 2 seconds.

The idea of the near-continuous beeping is to discourage the driver from driving at a speed of 120 Kph or more, which is nearly 50 % above the regular speed limit on almost all roads in India. These safety features will be standard on every car sold in India from the end of this year.

Apart from these newly added features, the other safety features that the Tata Nexon offers as standard are twin  airbags, ABS+EBD and reverse parking sensors. The higher variants of the compact SUV also offer a reverse parking  camera. The Nexon has received a 5 star rating from the Global NCAP making it the only car in India to do so.

The  crash test revealed the Tata Nexon’s body structure to be stable and capable of withstanding further loading. In  other words, Global NCAP crash test proved the Tata Nexon to be a strong and safe car, enough for Tata Motors to go to down proclaiming the best-in-segment safety of this SUV.

The Nexon is one of Tata’s best selling vehicles, second only to the Tiago hatchback. The compact SUV competes with the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the recently launched Mahindra XUV300. The Nexon’s prices start from Rs. 6.36 lakhs, which makes it the least priced compact SUV in its segment.

The price is a major reason why many buyers have entered Tata showrooms to the Nexon, and once they’re there, the SUV’s funky styling, powerful engines and feature- rich cabin has done the rest. Currently, the Nexon is India’s second best selling compact SUV in its segment, behind the Maruti Brezza, and averages sales of nearly 5,000 units each month.

The SUV is available with a 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that makes 108 Bhp-170 Nm, and a 1.5  liter-4 cylinder turbodiesel engine with 108 Bhp-260 Nm outputs. Both engines are paired to 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard. 6 speed AMT options are also available with both engines.

Honda Accord to Volkswagen Touareg: 5 used cars with 200 Bhp plus power for under 10 Lakhs

In India, high fuel efficiency is always given preference over high power or performance cars. This market response has led to most of the companies focus more on bringing in better mileage cars at affordable rates. This also means that the enthusiast focused cars have a relatively small market and over the time have dwindled in numbers. However, the used market offers some pretty good deal in this respect and can provide 200 plus Bhp worth of bang for your buck. If you don’t have any issues with having a used car, here are 5 such examples. Also, the maintenance and service of these vehicles will cost a lot than an average car under Rs. 10 lakh price mark.
