The future of “Ambassador” is yet to be decided: PSA Chairman

The Hindustan Ambassador is a legendary name in the Indian automotive space. The Ambassador retired from the market after decades of its service and there still many well-kept examples that can be seen on the roads. PSA, the French automobile group has bought the rights to use the name of Ambassador in the Indian market and will enter the Indian market officially first launch. The group will sell the vehicles in the Indian market under the Citroen brand but will they bring in the Ambassador name into the play too?

Ambassador Speedster Render

The Ambassador name holds a special place in the Indian market. In an interview with LiveMint, the Chairman of PSA said that they have not yet decided on how to use the Ambassador name in the Indian market.

We are too young in this market to be able to have a clear-cut opinion about how to use it. So, we will keep it in our hands, and we will try to understand the market better and at the same time, look for the best opportunity to do in a way that is emotionally warm, acceptable and also aligned with the values of the Citroen brand. We are currently in the process of analysing how it (Ambassador) can be used as it is an iconic brand, we would not like to mean any disrespect to it.

Earlier, a few reports claimed that PSA is considering to use the name for its electric vehicle arm in India. There is even a vintage-era inspired electric muscle car concept from Peugeot that could be the best fit of the Ambassador name but as per the latest interview, PSA may have some completely different plans for the use of Ambassador nameplate in the Indian market.

Well, apart from the Ambassador, the Citroen brand will launch the all-new C5 Aircross SUV in the Indian market by the end of 2020. The all-new SUV will take on the likes of Jeep Compass in the Indian market. The brand also has planned three more all-new products for the Indian market in the coming times which are expected to be launched after the C5 Aircross makes its debut in the Indian market.

The PSA group has joined hands with the CK Birla Group in the Indian market and the vehicles will be manufactured right here in India to keep the prices affordable. This is not the first time that the French brand will enter the Indian market. Earlier, the PSA group launched the Peugeot branded cars in the Indian market and also partnered with Premier to form Peugeot-PAL India.

It is likely that the PSA group will keep the Ambassador nameplate reserved for some special vehicle for the Indian market but sooner or later, the moniker will return!

Modifications and customizations have been banned in India after the recent Supreme Court verdict. However, prior to this verdict, big changes and modification on a vehicle were still illegal. As of now, only the customizations and modifications offered by the manufacturer are legal. Also, if you plan to make any changes on the vehicle yourself, that needs to be first passed by the RTO. Mahindra and Mahindra, among India’s largest automotive manufacturers, has been providing relief to the enthusiasts since long as they offer in house modified vehicles in the name of Mahindra Customisation. The best thing about them is that they are completely legal. Here are a few examples of Mahindra Customisation’s works.

Thar Wanderlust

The Thar Wanderlust is among the most well known examples of Mahindra’s Customisation arm in the recent time. It first debuted at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018 as a modified version of the regular Thar. The Wanderlust gets unique design elements like Gullwing doors, a new front grille, custom fenders, and big off-road sec tires. It also comes with a heavy-duty winch, a custom twin-exhaust system, and an electric matte blue paint job. The interiors have also been redone and now come swathed in leather.

Bolero Stinger

The Bolero Stinger has been in the market since long and probably among the initial works of the Mahindra Customisation. The Stinger badge has been used on many of its cars, more of which we will see later. The Bolero here is the newer generation model and comes with a racy blue paint job. This Stinger sports a pickup body style (dual-cab) along with faux air vents on the fenders and a custom bonnet. The interiors of the Bolero Stinger here have been modified and are now much more stylish than ever.

Thar Daybreak

The Thar Daybreak debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo and is a highly modified version of the regular Thar. It has been built keeping off-road prowess in mind and therefore comes with several features that improve its performance off the road. The Thar Daybreak features LED DRLs up front and LED taillights along with redesigned doors. Other changes include the addition of winch on the custom front bumper, a hood scoop and a raised ground clearance. It rides on massive off-road spec wheels which not only lend it a menacing character but also enhance its capabilities.

Bolero Stinger Other Variants

As we mentioned earlier, Mahindra Customisations made other versions of the Bolero Stinger as well. The video above shows three Stingers along with a custom Thar. Most of these modifications are in the form of bolt-on kits but then the Stingers also had a pick style body design which sets them apart. The older generation Thar here had round headlamps while another older gen Bolero had a flat out style lamps. They also get exciting paint shades along with full interior revamp that take up its desireability factor.

Scorpio Darkhorse

The Darkhorse is a more rugged version of the regular Scorpio and sports a matte grey paint scheme with orange highlights along with a wire-mesh grille and custom bumper. The new bumper sports two auxiliary lamps that complement the custom three-pod headlights and the Darkhorse also sports large air intakes on the bonnet. It gets a pickup body and unconventional looks that are sure to catch attention whereever it goes.

TUV300 Super Style

Mahindra offered a super style kit for the regular TUV300 which made the boxy SUV into a sporty affair. The body kit consisted of several sporty parts like a large hood scoop, bumper inserts, all around black body plastic cladding along with other bits including custom side-steps. Moreover, the interiors of the car were completely revamped and featured a premium dashboard finish as well as leather upholstery and a touchscreen infotainment system. All in all, this kit made the TUV300 a lot more good looking than it is in stock form. iy

Suzuki Intruder 155 cruiser motorcycle gets a facelift for 2019: Launched

Suzuki Motorcyles India has launched the facelifted, 2019 Intruder 155 cruiser motorcycle. The motorcycle has  received a slew of upgrades through the facelift. It’s priced at Rs. 1.08 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. As for the  upgrades, the Suzuki Intruder 155 gets a new Metallic Matte Titanium Silver paint scheme, updated gear shift design,  improvised brake pedal and a back rest for the pillion. The engine and gearbox remain unchanged, and so do the mechanicals.

2019 Suzuki Intruder 155

Commenting on the launch of the updated motorcycle, Mr. Devashish Handa, Vice President, SMIPL, said,

We are delighted to start the new fiscal year with the launch of new INTRUDER which will fascinate the customers for  a relaxed ride. With its modern-day design and premium appeal, Suzuki INTRUDER is an apt motorcycle for all the cruiser lovers in the country. The 2019 INTRUDER will offer a soothing daily commute as well as short weekend rides.

The Suzuki Intruder 155 continues to retain the 155cc four stroke engine borrowed from the Gixxer. This motor makes 14.6 Bhp of peak power and 14 Nm of peak torque. The four stroke engine is an air cooled unit that is carbureted and that features a two valve head. A five speed manual gearbox is standard.

The motorcycle gets an LED headlamp as standard. Notably, Suzuki has discontinued the non-ABS version of the Intruder from the market, and the motorcycle is available in a single variant now, with single channel ABS as standard. The motorcycle weighs 148 kilograms, and has a fuel efficiency rating of 44 Kmpl.

The Intruder competes with the Bajaj Avenger in the Indian market, but is priced much higher than the Avenger 150.  With the Intruder, Suzuki has attempted to recreate a big bike feel, and it has more or less worked as buyers seem to be opting for the motorcycle in a big way. However, in terms of sheer numbers, the Bajaj Avenger is still ahead  thanks to its value pricing.
The other relatively affordable cruiser motorcycles available in the Indian market are the Royal Enfield Thunderbird  350/500 and the UM Renegade range of cruisers. However, these motorcycles are a lot more pricier than the Avenger and Intruder. They’re also a lot more powerful. Other cruisers in the Indian market sit in the Rs. 5 lakh+ category. From Harley Davidson to Kawasaki, a range of motorcycle makers offer cruisers. However, these cruisers are not meant for everyday use like the Intruder and Avenger. They’re meant mainly for weekend riding.

Mahindra Thar 4X4 in a canal: Can it climb out? [Video]

Mahindra Thar needs no introduction in the Indian market. It is one of the most affordable proper SUVs in the Indian market and takes on the likes of Force Gurkha in the Indian market. The Thar has also become the first choice of many off-road enthusiasts because of the ease of modification that it offers to make the vehicle much more capable off the road. The Mahindra Thar is also quite affordable to mend, which is why it is preferred by the most. The Mahindra Thar is also one of the few off-roading vehicles in India that has been tested thoroughly in different kinds of terrains. Here is one such video of the Mahindra Thar that shows its capability in a canal!

The Mahindra Thar seen here in the video by Rahul Chandran looks like stock vehicle and is not modified in any way except for the aftermarket alloy wheels. The video shows the Mahindra Thar entering the canal head-on. As soon as the vehicle gets on the steep decline of the deep canal, the driver applies the brakes.

The Thar can be seen sliding down the steep canal walls. One should never apply brakes suddenly while going down a slope as it can imbalance the vehicle. Also, applying the brakes will lock up the tyres that in turn can make the vehicle lose all its control. The best way of going down a steep slope is by using engine braking only. If the need arises, one can use the brake but with a light foot.

Mahindra Thar Climb Featured

The Mahindra Thar reaches the bottom of the canal and then tries to come up on the other side. In the first attempt, the Thar almost climbs the wall and reaches the ground but the front wheels of the vehicle do not get enough traction, which is why he tries the challenge again. The Thar comes down and then tries climbing up at a faster pace by maintaining the momentum. This allows the vehicle to reach the top of the ground without any problem.

It should be noted that even when most of the parts in the Thar are in stock condition, it did not face much of a challenge from the obstacle. Getting down in a canal and coming up may look quite easy on the camera but it requires a lot from the vehicle. The steep incline and decline require great approach angle and departure angle. Also, to cross over from the ground to the canal and come back again, the breakover angle, which is affected by the wheelbase and ground clearance of the vehicle needs to be high. With a low breakover angle, the vehicle can bottom out and get stuck!

Mahindra is currently working on an all-new Thar that is expected to be launched in the Indian market next year. Till then, the current version of the Thar will remain on sale. The all-new Thar will also get a more powerful engine and better safety features.

Yamaha FZ25 with less power BEATS KTM Duke 200: Here’s why [Video]

$

The KTM 200 Duke is one of the best bikes money can buy if you want a powerful, fun bike but are a bit low on budget. Its unique styling along with sharp handling and acceleration make it a great buy. Another good motorcycle to give it tough competition is the Yamaha FZ25 which can be said to be a comfortable sports tourer. But what happens when you pit the two motorcycles against each other for a top speed run. Let’s find out.

The FZ25 comes out as a winner in this speed test. In the video, we see that the Duke zooms past the FZ initially and maintains a good lead for some time. However, after some time, the FZ25 overtakes it and takes the crown. This despite the fact that the Yamaha motorcycle is low on power than the KTM offering. To make things more clear, the KTM 200 Duke comes with a 199.5 cc engine that produces 24.6 Bhp of power at 10,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 19.2 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The Yamaha FZ25 in comparison gets a bigger 249 cc engine but only produces  20.3 Bhp of power at 8,000 rpm and maximum torque of 20 Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Duke Vs Fz

This makes the Yamaha a full 4.3 Bhp less than the KTM. Note that both bikes tip the scale at 148 kg (kerb weight), so power to weight ratio factor also is on Duke’s side. Because of this the bike is able to zoom past easily in the start. Let’s now understand the reasons why the KTM lost to the Yamaha FZ25 despite all the advantage being on its side.

  • The KTM 200 Duke has got a shorter gear ratio as compared to the FZ25. While this is good if you want to have a quarter mile dash, top speed takes a hit due to this.
  • The KTM also comes with speed and rev limiter, which do not let the bike utilize its full potential.

So now you see why the Yamaha FZ25 was able to gain an edge over the KTM 200 Duke despite being less powerful. As can be seen in the video, the races are being conducted on an active highway. This is something that we totally condemn. Racing on public roads is not only a punishable offense but also too risky. Also, none of the riders are in full safety gear, which is another thing that we strongly advise against.

New Maruti Ertiga12

There was a time when Toyota Innova Crysta used to sell more than the Ertiga but the all-new model has changed that. In comparison, the direct competitor – Mahindra Marazzo sold around 2,751 units in the same period.

The Toyota Innova Crysta sold 6,984 units in the same month, which is similar to the March 2018 sales figure of 6,952 units. However, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has posted over 76% Year-on-Year growth from the 5,086 units sold in the same period last year.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is based on the new HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new-age vehicles the Swift, Ignis, Baleno and more. With the new platform, the all-new Ertiga has also increased in the dimensions and offers much more cabin space compared to the outgoing version. It is 99mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm taller than the 1st generation model. The Ertiga is also much lower in price when compared to the Mahindra Marazzo that is only powered by a diesel engine option.

The Maruti Suzuki all-new Ertiga is priced at Rs 7.44 lakh and the top-end diesel version of the MPV gets a price tag of Rs 10.9 lakh. It is currently available with two engine options. The petrol variants are powered by the all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine that debuted with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the Indian market. It generates a maximum power of 104 Bhp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. Maruti offers a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission with the petrol variant. The diesel engine is the same 1.3-litre DDiS unit that generates a maximum power of 89 Bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel version gets the SHVS mild hybrid system that helps the MPV to return a phenomenal fuel efficiency. The diesel version returns a maximum of 25.47 km/l while the petrol version returns a maximum of 19.34 km/l with the manual and 18.69 km/l with the automatic transmission.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga also comes with a host of changes inside the cabin. The all-new cabin now gets wooden inserts throughout for a more premium feel and look. Even the steering wheel gets wooden inserts. There is a touchscreen infotainment system placed in the middle that gets both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Currently, the Mahindra Bolero is in the second position when it comes to the best-selling MPVs in the Indian market.

Porsche Cayenne, BMW MINI, Ferrari California T & other super luxury cars in election rally [Video]

With the elections starting soon and the Model Code of Conduct in place, there are quite a few restrictions in place. But to attract attention, there are many who hold political rallies. In the past, we have seen a major crowd on foot going through the streets. However, modern days need modern means of campaigning. Which is why a group of Mumbai luxury car owners got out in the streets of the city to campaign for the BJP party.

The video by Petrolhead’s Paradise shows luxury cars lining up at the starting of the Mumbai Sea Link bridge. The first vehicle in the line-up is a Toyota Innova followed by a Porsche Cayenne. There are quite a few luxury cars in the line-up including a MINI Cooper and a Ferrari California T convertible. Interestingly, all the vehicles in the convoy carried the “Main Bhi Chowkidar” banners positioned on the front of the cars. A few enthusiastic occupants in MINI Cooper even stood inside the vehicle waving the Indian flag.

The exact start point and end point of this luxury car rally are not mentioned in the video but it sure went through many busy streets of Mumbai catching the attention of thousands. This is one of the first times that such a large number of luxury cars have become a part of an election campaign in India.

Bjp Election Rally Supercars Featured

The video mentions that more than 100 cars participated in the rally and the video shows a mix of regular vehicles like Toyota Innova and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the convoy too. Towards the end, there are also a few Jaguar vehicles. The video also mentions about the Lamborghini Urus but we could not spot the SUV in the convoy. Instead, it was spotted before the convoy. Most probably, the Urus was not a part of the rally and was enjoying its weekend drive.

In the past, many modified private vehicles and commercial vehicles have been used for the election rallies. Such vehicles are used to attract as much attention as they can in the crowd. Using high-end vehicles in the rallies will definitely make the heads turn on the roads wherever they go. In India, such rallies are quite rare but they are quite effective in serving the purpose effectively of spreading awareness about the political party in a grand way.

Keeping wild animals as a pet is one of the biggest trends among the riches in Arab countries. Hassan Hussein from Karachi, Pakistan has kept a wild lion as a pet and the animal moves around with him all around in his Toyota Hilux pick-up truck.

Lion in a Hilux

According to Hassan, the lion was born in his farmland and the mother was unable to feed it so he decided to adopt the lion and keep it as a pet. He got the cub when it was only 2 weeks old and now it is 26 months old and has become a full grown animal. Hassan can be seen moving around with the pet lion, which he has named as Simba in his Toyota Hilux pick-up truck.

Hassan can be seen directing the lion to get in the rear seat of the double cab Toyota Hilux. The video footage from Barcroft Animals also shows the person driving around the town with the lion in the back seat. Simba, the lion seems very intrigued by the surroundings and keeps its eyes on the outside. According to the owner, Simba is a very friendly pet and listens to all the instructions. He also mentions that the lion can be tamed very easily.

Toyota Hilux Lion Featured

According to the owner of the lion, the lion eats around 5kg of meat every day. When asked about the reactions from the public, Hassan answered that everyone gets surprised after noticing the lion and most of the onlookers want to get a picture of the lion and many click selfie pictures with the wild animal too. The lion stays with the owner all the time and is kept on a leash whenever it goes out.

The fashion of keeping wild tigers and lions is quite common among the elites in the Arab countries. There are many videos of tigers moving around in luxury vehicles from the middle-eastern nations but it is quite uncommon and unheard of in the Indian sub-continent.

However, such pet wild animals can be unpredictable at times. There have been many incidents in the past where the owners of pet wild animals have been attacked. The most recent incident happened last month in Czheckoslavia where a man was mauled by a pet lion which he raised since a cub. Many such incidents have been reported from across the world. Wild animals are quite different in nature when compared to domesticated animals like dogs.

Nonetheless, it is interesting to watch the wild lion going around the town in a Toyota Hilux. The Hilux pick-up truck is not officially available in the Indian market but it is one of the most popular pick-up trucks in the world. The Hilux and the Toyota Fortuner share the same underpinnings.

The Indian automotive market is one of the largest in the whole world. Another thing it is known for is its unpredictability, due to which many manufacturers and good cars have flopped due to one reason or the other. Maruti Suzuki has been leading since it came to India and is then followed by Hyundai in terms of sales.

However, when we talk about the profit made from each car, which cars make the most profit for their manufacturers? The answer to that depends on various factors, which includes sales volume, price range, distribution, profit share among others. Below, we have listed the most profit making car according to their respective segment for the year 2018.

Hatchbacks

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

2019 Maruti Baleno Rs

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the best selling premium hatchback in the country. It recently received a facelift which tweaked its appearance and gave a fresh look to the interiors as well. The Baleno is a regular feature in the monthly top 5 selling cars of India. Talking about its revenue, the hatchback raked in about Rs. 9,959 crores for Maruti in 2018. It has the third highest revenue in the whole industry and the fourth highest sales among all cars. In terms of revenue collected in the hatchback category, it was closely followed by another Maruti Suzuki Hatchback, the Swift, which brings in Rs. 9,649 crores for the company.

Sedan

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

In the sedan segment, we have the Maruti Suzuki Dzire as the highest revenue grossing model. The Dzire comes from the sub-4 meter segment, which is the smallest and most affordable sedan segment in India. Talking about the total revenue it brings, the Dzire raked in around Rs. 13,870 crores for Maruti Suzuki in 2018. It also was the best selling vehicle by sales volume in the auto industry last year, making it the most successful car of 2018. Aso, it’s Rs. 13,870 crore worth of revenue is the highest not only in the sedan segment but the highest revenue in all segments, more than the total revenue of several manufacturers.

MPV

Toyota Innova Crysta

The Toyota Innova Crysta was the most expensive MPV on sale here in 2018. This, however, didn’t stop it from becoming the highest revenue grosser in the MPV segment. Another reason for that could be that the market didn’t actually have a proper MPV in any other segment until September when Mahindra launched the Marazzo and then later at the year-end time when the new generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was introduced. The total revenue raked in by the Toyota Innova Crysta for the year 2018 is Rs. 7,543 crores, which is quite a sum considering it is an expensive vehicle. In terms of sales, it was the 15th best selling vehicle all over.

SUV

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Brezza

Like the sedan segment where a car from the smallest segment picked up the revenue crown, the SUV category also has the same story. Here, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza picked up the top revenue grosser crown and it belongs to the sub-4 meter SUV segment, which actually should be called CUVs (Crossover Utility Vehicles). The Vitara Brezza brought in a total of 10,491 crores of revenue for the company in 2018. Sales wise, it was the fifth best selling vehicle overall and a best seller in its segment.

4 different types of automatic gearboxes for 4 different kinds of people

$

0

There was a time in India when automatic transmissions were considered to be an aristocratic fitment, something which is not accessible for the average car buyer. However, with the advancement of technology, automatic transmissions have become more affordable than ever and now several cars below Rs. 5 lakh bracket come equipped with one. The ever-worsening traffic conditions have further helped in increasing the popularity of automatics as it makes a car quite hassle-free to drive even in heavy traffic conditions. However, there are basically four different types of automatic transmissions available in the market which can create a little bit of confusion when buying a car. To save you from the trouble, here are the four different types of automatic transmissions classified according to their USPs. Read along to find out which one suits your needs the best.

Automated Manual Transmission (AMT)

For: Affordability and fuel efficiency

AMT or Automated Manual Transmission is the cheapest automatic transmission option available in the market. It is mostly offered in hatchbacks and sub-4 meter sedans/SUVs. In India, the sales of AMT type automatic transmission is probably the highest among other automatic options due to its affordability. The way an AMT transmission works is quite as simple as a manual transmission. An interesting fact about them is that the AMT technology in its current form was actually derived from the modern F1 cars. In AMT, the clutch and gear shift action are automated making it different from a standard manual gearbox. It is also referred to as the semi-automatic gearbox many times.

However, AMTs have a downside too. They can get quite Jerky at higher RPMs, which may soil the driving experience a bit. AMT is offered in affordable cars like – Tata Nano, Maruti Alto, Renault Duster and some expensive cars like Fiat Abarth 595 and even a few older Ferraris. Their good fuel efficiency and low cost is what makes them so popular. It is an ideal choice for people who want the convenience of an automatic gearbox but also don’t want to compromise on fuel efficiency along with affordability.

Continous Variable Transmissions (CVT)

For: Refinement and smoothness

Cvt Transmission Gearbox

Next comes the CVT gearbox which is quite different from AMT. The AMT system uses a servo to operate clutch but the CVT does not have any gears itself! Actually, the CVT transmission system employs a couple of discs that convey torque linearly across the RPM range. This type of gearbox is the most common choice for the scooters sold in the Indian market. The advantage of having a CVT gearbox is that it offers a very smooth driving experience with minimum noise levels. In India, various cars like the Nissan Micra, Maruti Baleno, Honda City, Honda Jazz come equipped with CVT transmission. Honda also offers paddle shifters on the City and the Jazz CVT models. Therefore, if you want a very smooth automatic gearbox with low NVH levels, CVT is the choice for you.

Dual Clutch Transmissions (DCT)

For: better Performance and quicker shift times

DCT (Dual Clutch Transmissions) or DSG as they are referred to as some times are among the most advanced automatic gearboxes, leaving aside the sports/supercar category. The biggest advantage of having a DCT gearbox is the lightning-quick shift times it provides. A DSG transmission uses a dual clutch system which makes them highly responsive and fast. It uses the second clutch which works out the gear you’re likely to need next and gets it ready. This translates into better shift times. DCTs come in wet or dry configuration, depending upon the torque rating of the paired engine. It is usually found in high-end luxury and performance cars. Indian cars with DCT/DSG gearboxes consist of the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, Skoda Rapid, Ford Figo and many more. DSG should be your pick if you enjoy the thrill and driving pleasure of a powerful engine-automatic gearbox combination. The fuel efficiency, though, takes a bit of a hit with DCTs.

Torque converters

For: Want an automatic box but no other choice available

Torque Converter Gearbox

Last on the list and among the oldest automatic gearbox systems, the torque converter units have been around for long. They are quite old and hence the mechanism behind their operation is quite complex. They use a planetary design gear system with turbine and impeller. The impeller is filled with a fluid which is pushed by centrifugal force in order to turn the turbine. This mechanism results in a lot of transmission loss which results in poor fuel efficiency. Torque converters are slowly being phased out more advanced options. Some examples of torque converter gearboxes in cars consist of the Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa.

Honda launched the all-new Civic in the Indian market last month to take on the likes of Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla and Skoda Octavia in the market. The Civic has returned to the market after a long period of seven years. Honda skipped a whole generation of the Civic in India after the vehicle was first launched in 2006 and discontinued in 2011. However, the all-new Civic is back with a back.

4honda Civic Review

The Civic has got into a flying start and according to the Japanese manufacturer, the car has already received around 2,400 bookings in just 40 days. Honda officially started taking bookings for the Civic from February 14, 2019. Compared to the rivals, the Civic carries a higher price tag. The base variant of the Civic is priced at Rs 17.69 lakh and the top-end variant is priced at Rs 22.29 lakh, ex-showroom. In comparison, the Hyundai Elantra carries a base price tag of Rs 13.81 lakh, Skoda Octavia is priced at Rs 15.99 lakh and the Toyota Corolla Altis is priced at Rs 15.7 lakh. Until now, Corolla Altis remained the best-selling sedan in the segment.

2honda Civic Review

In the month of March, Honda officially dispatched 2,291 units of the Civic in the market while the Toyota dispatched 229 units of the Corolla Altis. Hyundai sold around 86 units of the Elantra while the Skoda sold 265 units of the Octavia in the market. In total, the segment saw sales of 2,871 units in the market out of which the Honda Civic contributed 80%. It sure is a huge feat for the newly launched vehicle in the market.

However, since the Civic is a brand new car, it will take a couple of months before the sales settle down and the dispatch numbers reflect the actual sales of the vehicle. Since Honda Civic is a brand-new vehicle in the segment, Honda is clearing the backlog of bookings and is also sending vehicles to the dealerships that will be used as test drive vehicles and display units. Such dispatches affect the overall sales figure but in a couple of months, the dispatch numbers are expected to settle down.

The all-new Civic is available in both petrol and diesel engine options but the petrol variant is more in demand. Honda offers a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that develops a maximum power of 139 Bhp and peak torque fo 174 Nm. It is offered only with a CVT transmission that can be controlled through the pedal shifters mounted on the steering wheels. The paddle shifters are standard across all the petrol variants of the sedan. The diesel variants get powered by the 1.6-litre diesel engine that also powers the all-new Honda CR-V in the Indian market. It generates a maximum of 118 Bhp and 300 Nm. The diesel variants are only available with a manual transmission in the market.

Amitabh Bachchan, the veteran Bollywood actor is also known for his love for cars. He moves around in a lot of luxurious vehicles including the Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography, Rolls Royce Ghost, Bentley Continental GT and even a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Senior Bachchan recently sold his Rolls Royce Ghost but he replaced it with a much more affordable vehicle – the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The MPV from the German automaker is popular around the world for its luxurious interiors and features and is often dubbed as the “S-Class” of MPVs.

Amitabh 1

The all-new V-Class was launched earlier this year in the Indian market priced at Rs 68.4 lakh. Mr Bachchan took the delivery of the vehicle himself and also posed in front of the vehicle while taking the delivery. Mercedes-Benz offers two variants of the V-Class in India but we are not sure about the variant bought by Mr Bachchan as the vehicle was spotted from only one angle and there are no other pictures of the vehicle. The V-Class Expression Long wheelbase is priced at Rs. 68.4 lakh while the higher-end Extra LWB version is priced at Rs 81.9 lakh. Both the prices are ex-showroom, pan-India.

This is the third-generation V-Class model in India. The long wheelbase version gets 6 seats while the extra long version offers a seating capacity for 7 occupants. Mercedes-Benz primarily targetted the Service industry (Tourism) in India that consists of luxury hotels and transportation services but being an extremely luxurious car, we may see more celebrities getting their hands on the all-new V-Class. The car gets conventional front doors while the rear seats can be accessed through a sliding door. Until now, Amitabh Bachchan has been often seen driving his own car but we think that the same would not happen much with the V-Class.

The V-Class offers some extremely high-end features. the middle row seats can be rotated 180 degrees to face the rear seat passengers. It serves perfectly for the businessmen who would want to have a meeting on the move or celebrities who want to do interviews on the move among many other things. Other features include an ambient lighting system that can change the ambience of the vehicle by changing the lights of the cabin, Mercedes Audio 20 infotainment system for navigation and multimedia experience. It gets six airbags, attention assist, crosswind assist, collision prevention assist, headlamp assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, blind spot detection, 360-degree cameras, lane assist and active park assist.

Amitabh2

Mercedes offers only the 2.1-litre BS-VI compliant diesel engine with the V-Class in India. The engine produces a maximum of 163 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm. It gets a 7-speed automatic transmission. There are no competitors of the V-Class in the Indian market at the moment. However, Toyota is expected to launch the Alphard MPV that will take on the V-Class directly.

Mahindra’s latest vehicle to enter the market, the XUV300 has got all the right attention ever since its launch. The company sold 4,742 units of the sub-4 meter SUV in March 2019, which is a pretty decent number for a new vehicle. This is a jump of around 250 units from February 2019, where the manufacturer sold 4,484 units of the XUV300. February was also the debut month of the sub-4 meter SUV and it started out pretty solid in terms of sales. In its segment, the Mahindra XUV300 rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, and the Ford Ecosport among others.

17mahindra Xuv300 Pictures

The sales in the sub-4 meter segment were again led by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, of which 14,181 units were sold in March. Next in sales is the Tata Nexon, of which 5,616 units were sold in March. Following closely is the Mahindra XUV300 with 4,742 units. The Ford Ecosport and Honda WR-V are next with 4,241 and 2,552 units sold respectively. This translates into Mahindra XUV300 being the third best selling sub-4 meter SUV already. The current waiting period of the XUV300 is between 3-4 weeks.

Though the XUV300 is a bit expensive than the rest of its rivals, Mahindra has filled it to brim with features. It comes with several segment first features such as disc brakes on all wheels 7 airbags, and also has the longest wheelbase among its rivals. It is based on the SsangYong Tivoli which is a larger SUV. Other features on the SUV include height adjustable driver’s seat, push-button start, keyless entry, 7.0-inch  touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 speaker audio, cruise  control, dual zone climate control, leather wrapped steering and gear knob, projector headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting, heated wing mirrors, and sunroof.

30mahindra Xuv300 Pictures

It also gets a lot of safety equipment which shows that Indian manufacturers are now not taking a chance in the safety department. As already mentioned, it is the first vehicle in the segment to offer 7 airbags. Other safety features include ABS+EBD, ESP, rollover mitigation, Hill Hold, disc brakes on all four wheels, front parking sensors, rear parking sensors + camera, speed alert and seat belt reminder

Talking of the engines,  the Mahindra XUV300 is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a newly developed 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder turbocharged unit that churns out a maximum power of 110 Bhp and a class-leading 200 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is borrowed from the Marazzo MPV but has been slightly detuned for better efficiency. The 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine here churns out a maximum power of 115 Bhp along with 300 Nm of torque. Both engines get 6-speed manual gearboxes as standard. AMT options for both engines will be made available later this year.

10 year old driving a Hyundai Creta SUV is exactly what you don’t want your kids to do [Video]

Handling a vehicle needs maturity in various ways. While it is not very difficult to understand the working of a vehicle and operate a vehicle but one needs to be mature enough to handle such a big responsibility, especially on the public roads. Sadly, there are many Indian parents who do not understand the same. Here is an underage child, which the video claims to be of 10 years old handling a Hyundai Creta on the public roads.

The video has been made in a music video format showing the kid driving around in a Creta with a friend or relative. The car in question is a Hyundai Creta, which is not a small car in any way. The video shows the kid driving around in the town, going through narrow gaps, taking the vehicle in reverse and then parking it back in the garage. All of the video has been shot on the public roads. It is quite commendable that the kid did extremely well with the vehicle and was confident on the road at such a small age but it is illegal and highly dangerous for the kid and for others on the road.

It seems like the kid has been driving and practising for a long time now and is pretty confident behind the wheels. However, according to the laws, driving on public roads without a driver’s license is illegal. Driver’s license is only available to the citizens who have crossed the legal age of 18 years in India.

What’s wrong with a kid driving a vehicle? Everything. First of all, he does not handle the vehicle as it is supposed to be. It is an automatic Creta and the kid using both his feet to control the brake and the accelerator pedals. This is extremely dangerous. Automatic cars should be driven only with the right foot and the left foot should be resting on the footrest. This is to ensure that the driver does not confuse both the pedals and also people who learn driving on manual cars unknowingly put more pressure on the left foot because they operate the clutch pedal with it and it requires a lot of power. The kid can also be seen holding the steering wheel with a steering spinner and is also using the same to move the vehicle on the turns. Again, it is a highly dangerous practice and steering spinners should not be used in any car. There are other things like no usage of the seatbelts by both the passengers and more.

In the past, many parents have been fined and even asked to be present in court for underage driving. Even insurance companies do not offer claims to anyone without a driving license, which is why one should avoid doing it completely. However, kids can drive in private tracks like racing circuits and there are many such young talents who are showing their driving skills around the racing tracks in India and around the world.

Rare Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG Brabus reviewed in India [Video]

The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen needs no introduction. The car was first introduced as a civilian model in 1979 and since then the shape of the G-Wagen has remained almost the same till date. Here is a rare Brabus modified G55 AMG from India that has all the means to turn the heads on the roads! Here is a video review from Horsepower Cartel telling you more about the car.

This is the Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG, which now has been discontinued in the market. It is currently available in the G63 disguise and carries forward the same boxy design. However, this G-Wagen in the video is special because it gets a Barbus kit on it. Brabus is one of the oldest tuners and modders of Mercedes-Benz vehicles and they exclusively work on the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart vehicles. The kits from Brabus can completely transform the look of the vehicle and make it look much more aggressive and way different looking from the stock version.

The G55 AMG seen here is a 2012 model. The real colour of the vehicle is hidden under the olive green military-inspired body wrap on the outside. It also looks different from the regular G-Wagen because of the body kit from Brabus. The exact price of the kit is not known but most of the time, the price of the kit is similar to the price of a brand new G-Wagen, which doubles the overall cost of the vehicle. The G55 AMG in 2011 was around Rs 1.2 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi. With the kit in place, the overall cost must have been more than Rs 2 crore, which is similar to the price of the latest G63 AMG.

Brabus G Wagen Review Featured

The G55 AMG with the Brabus kit gets a new front bumper spoiler, new intake and cooling slots on the hood, which are all functional and a modified rear. Rest of the vehicle gets the body wrap. On the inside, the aftermarket Brabus kit includes carbon fibre finishes on the central panel of the dashboard. It also gets diamond stitched red coloured seats that really uplifts the cabin’s looks.

It is not known Brabus has also tinkered with the engine or it remains stock. However, the video says that the cat system of the vehicle has been removed or modified, which is why the engine check light warning can be seen on the dashboard. This particular Mercedes-Benz G55 came powered by a massive 5,439cc supercharged V8 petrol engine that generates a maximum of 507 Bhp at 6,100 rpm and 700 Nm of peak torque between 2,750-4,000 rpm. It gets a five-speed automatic transmission but there are no pedal shifters. The G55 AMG V8 can catapult to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and can reach an electronically-limited top speed of 210 km/h.

It was only last year when Bangalore based AptEner Mechatronics launched a unique and first of its kind helmet air cooler under their brand name of BluArmor. It turned out to be an affordable, portable air cooler for full-face helmets and was given the name BluSnap. It went onto become a hit, being bought by riders from as many as 10 countries! Continuing on the success and the learnings, BluArmor launched the updated BluSnap2 device and this is what you see in the video below. You can see the unboxing part followed by fitting it to our helmet. In the end, we did a quick test to see the reduction of the temperature inside the helmet and were quite impressed! Hit the play button…

As seen at the end of the video, BluSnap2 cooled down the helmet to about 30.8 degrees which is a good 6.1 less than the outside temperature. This updated BluSnap comes with numerous changes. For example, the water tank has been replaced by a dunk cartridge which remains wet for about 90 mins. I believe if you dip the ‘dunk’ into icy cold water, the air thrown inside the lid will be even better! Strapping the device to your helmet is also easier now as opposed to the earlier unit which required the rider to use a strap around the lid. The company claims a full charge will allow the device it to run for about 10 hours. Charging is simple and the box comes with a USB cable. We also like the fact that BluSnap2 continues to offer the anti-fog feature and the filter keeps dust particles away.

Blusnap2 Exterior 150005

At Rs 2299, the cost has gone up marginally but the added comfort level makes up for that. You, also get free shipping inside India – more details on the website at TheBluarmor.com. And then, there are the cool stickers which that can be used for your lid, laptop and even your mobile! With summers approaching fast, we are sure riders will love this device. Most of us hate commuting to work under the sun and this is where BluSnap2 will make a vital difference. No one loves sweating and this in turn makes you lose your cool and temper in traffic. Additionally, most metro cities suffer from dust and smoke pollution and the device’s filter will keep this away to an extent.

Maruti Suzuki cars continue to occupy the first three places in the Indian car market but there’s been a rejig in the  order. The Maruti Dzire compact sedan and Baleno premium hatchback are now India’s two top selling cars, and the Alto budget hatchback has been pushed to third place. In March 2019, Maruti Suzuki dispatched 19,935 units of the Dzire, 17,264 units of the Baleno and 16,826 units of the Alto.

maruti dzire discounts

So, what makes for lower Alto dispatches in March 2019? Well, the answer is BNVSAP. An acronym for Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program, BNVSAP mandates that all cars sold in India feature at least a driver airbag, ABS, speed alerts, seat belt reminder and reverse parking sensors as the minimum safety trim from the 1st of April 2019.

The Alto is yet to recieve these safety features as standard, and the lower number of dispatches reflect the fact that  Maruti is all set to begin producing the safety feature equipped versions of the Alto 800 and Alto K10. Notably, the  safer versions of the Alto are likely to hit the market later this month. Don’t be surprised to see a big bump up in  dispatch numbers for the Alto in April 2019.

Baleno 3

Aside of BNVSAP, car sales in India has been showing a marked change over the past couple of years. The likes of the Maruti Baleno and Dzire are now rising above the entry level cars like the Alto 800 and the K10 models. Buyers are now choosing to buy more expensive vehicles as their first cars, and also the cab market is driving sales of certain cars – particularly the Dzire. Also, a lot of first time car buyers are opting for more premium cars from the used car market even as prices of brand new cars have steadily increased over the years. This is fueling a boom in the used car market as well as many buyers find brand new cars a little too expensive.

Talking of the Maruti Dzire and Baleno, both cars gets both petrol and diesel engines. They are based on the same  HEARTECT platform, and are lightweight cars. The petrol engine offered on the Dzire and Baleno is the 1.2 liter K-  Series unit with 82 Bhp-113 Nm while the diesel engine is the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged unit with 74 Bhp-  190 Nm. Both engines get 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard.

On the Dzire, Maruti offers a 5 speed AMT with both engines while the Baleno gets a CVT automatic gearbox on the  petrol motor. The Baleno is also sold in RS trim, which features a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that  makes 101 Bhp-150 Nm. The Baleno RS gets a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. While the Dzire gets a compact sedan form factor, the Baleno is marketed as a spacious, premium hatchback. Prices of the Maruti Baleno start from Rs. 5.55 lakhs, ex-showoroom Delhi while those of the Dzire start from Rs. 5.7 lakhs.

5 ways to make your car look & feel FACTORY FRESH

$
0
0

It is said that time is the ultimate destroyer of things and life. Well, that’s true in the case of cars too. No matter how good a car was when it came out in freshly minted condition from the assembly line, with time, it’s appearance and functioning takes a hit. Thankfully, there are ways to keep our cars look and feel younger, just like there are things to keep us feel fresh and young. No, we are not talking about any botox shots for cars here, but a few things which could help keep your car feel younger, essentially as good as it came from the factory. Let’s take a look at some of the problems cars face with the passage of time along with how to rectify them.

Starting with the most evident of problems,

Outdated styling

Exterior Detailing And Cleaning

This is one of the most evident problems that begin to pop up as your car grows old. While you can’t just swap a vehicle’s bodywork for a cooler-looking version, this doesn’t mean that nothing can be done to get back its original sheen. Getting a new coat of paint or better a new shade of your choice is a sure shot way of making your car look better and fresh. Moreover, getting the plastic and rubber bits polished and having the wheels refurbished further help the case.

Also, if you want some customizations and make your car look different from other examples on road, simple modifications like alloy wheels, slight lowering of the vehicle, and even exterior decals and wraps do that job pretty nicely. However, as per the stringent motor vehicles law of our country, you have to get all the new modifications endorsed on your vehicle’s papers if you plan to make some serious changes. Don’t blame us later saying we didn’t tell.

Worn out and shabby interior

Car Interior Restoration And Cleaning

The exteriors are not the only thing that the beating from time. Though the exteriors begin to show signs of age earlier, the interiors too fade away into the oblivion slowly. More than looking old, a car’s interiors are something that begins to feel old. Thankfully interior treatment takes care of stains and discoloured leather. A good polishing to the dashboard gives it the original shine which makes it look quite fresh, almost like new.

Apart from that, what one can do is to use new carpet and mats, changing seat covers and door panels along with thorough cleaning can make all the difference. A new air freshener is another inexpensive thing that can make the car smell better. If you want to keep your interiors stock, that’s perfectly fine. Or, you can go for a whole new look to have a new feel.

Now getting to some serious problems

Rust

Rust is a car’s worst enemy and there is no way that can be completely stopped just by loving your car. Love is fine but with that, you need to get some work done on the car to ensure it runs free of rust. This brownish flakey enemy of your’s cars metal can be sitting in a corner, near a hinge, or worse still might have consumed a panel already. If preventive measures aren’t taken, then chances are that it has done so.

Some of the measures to be taken in such conditions are the removal of rust, replacement/repair of the affected panel, and getting an anti-rust treatment. The bodywork might take some time but if done at the right time, will save your car’s body from further damage. A few important things to note here are that un-repaired parts, damp carpets, and even accumulation of dirt can trigger rust. Humidity makes matter worse and you need to take extra care of your beloved if you stay in a humid part of the country.

Bad Handling

Wheel Alignment Hunter

If you would have noticed, cars often get personified by their owners and other automobile enthusiasts. There’s a fairly good reason for that too. Often, a car is best operated by its owner and that’s because one slowly get accustomed to the way our vehicles behave. A sort of connection or bond is formed between the owner and the vehicle if it is looked upon with love. However, this love also means that owners often don’t get to see if there is a slow, gradual deterioration in the way a car behaves. Love, they say, can make one go blind. With age, components like tyres, wheels, and even the suspension are bound to go ‘kaput’ and it all can collectively hamper the way a car handles.

To avoid any such condition, wheel alignment and balancing need to be done periodically. The tyre wear and the suspension should also be checked over time. Any deviation in the normal functioning has to be taken care of, even if you feel it is just slightly off. Further TLC including changing tyres shall bring the vehicle close to how it came from the dealership.

Reduced performance

Even without any major damage, the performance of a car takes the downhill road over time. This is because of the gradual wear and tear of the engine and other moving parts of a car like the transmission. Like in the case of handling as discussed above, the throttle response and the gearbox feedback among other things may give weaker feedback compared to their initial condition. However, getting the engine back to its shape isn’t a big task.

As the informative video by Fifth Gear shows, just a few simple steps can make the engine run optimally again. One can start with the cleaning of the tank and the fuel lines, and move further to changing the engine oil and filters (oil and air). Changine the spark plugs and connecting leads are the next thing that would help make the car run better. The replacement of vital components can bring the engine back to its former glory. The best part, they are not very expensive too.
