$

The top-end W11 trim of the Mahindra XUV500 luxury crossover has received a key infotainment update in the form of the Apple CarPlay interface. Now, what does Apple CarPlay do? It essentially mirrors the screen of an iPhone connected to it, on the touchscreen infotainment system. This happens through Bluetooth technology, and gives the iPhone user easy access to various phone functions through the voice commands and the car’s steering mounted phone controls. From making and receiving phone calls to sending out text messages, Apple CarPlay adds a new dimension to the XUV500’s infotainment interface.

Xuv500 Apple Carplay Featured

Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said,

At Mahindra our vehicle offer consumers Accessible Technologies. The introduction of Apple CarPlay enhances the convenience & connectivity offered by the XUV500 and will generate a lot of interest among our potential customers. To delight our customers, we will provide this update to existing owners of the W11 variant as well. They can visit a Mahindra authorised workshop to get their infotainment system upgraded with Apple CarPlay.

The XUV500’s infotainment system has already been equipped with Android Auto. This infotainment update will be factory programmed on every W11 variant of the XUV500. As for the existing W11 variants of the XUV500, they can get the Apple CarPlay app to the current infotainment system at their nearest Mahindra service center. Whether owners of other variants of the XUV500 will also have access to dealer coded Android Auto and Apple CarPlay remains to be seen. Mahindra offers these Smartphone mirroring software updates on the Marazzo and XUV300 as well, which means that the XUV500 is actually the third car in the automaker’s line up to receive this feature.

The Mahindra XUV500 is sold with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines but only the diesel top-end trim gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The diesel powered SUV uses a 2.2 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged engine with 154 Bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque. 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes are offered with the XUV500, which gets front wheel drive and all wheel drive options with the diesel engine. The petrol engined model also uses a 2.2 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged engine, but with 140 Bhp-320 Nm outputs and a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard. The petrol powered XUV500 is a front wheel driven SUV. Prices of the XUV500 start from Rs. 14.94 lakhs for the base W3 trim, and goes all the way up to Rs. 23.86 lakhs, on-road Delhi.

Buying a used full-size SUV requires a lot of research and thought, for it is an ambitious acquisition that comes at a costly price. If you have been pondering over the purchase of one, then you have come to the right place. We will present you with a tantalizing range of options, customized for Bangalore, from which you can pick the SUV that best fits your demands. You might think your demands are too specific, but even with your specific needs you will be left more perplexed than persuaded by leading car websites. Moreover, they will have listings of cars that have not been neatly sorted, and hence are not in a position to give you the best deal. How do you take your pick then?

Used car websites are usually of little use, even with their multiple filters. The onus of sorting the information remains on you, and who wants to be drowning in data? Fortunately, we have got just the right solution for you through the Cartoq TRUE PRICE. By deploying the Cartoq TRUE PRICE, we help you identify the best deals. The Cartoq Data Science team has built a Machine Learning model that estimates the TRUE PRICE of a used car, after accounting for all sorts of variables – brand, model, age, mileage, and car type. With all factors accounted for, the model predicts the TRUE PRICE, which then becomes the basis of comparison across cars. The best deals are those where listed price is lower than the TRUE PRICE. So, we scan through the car listings across major used car sites, compute their TRUE PRICE, and present the best deals for you

The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on July 8, 2019; so, by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available. However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out.

Toyota has four cars in this segment, but not the best one, which means:
• Hitting the right balance remains an issue for Toyota, notwithstanding its impressive collection.
• The Honda SUV is the match winner, but it is a shame that no other Honda model makes it to the list.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Honda CR V 2.4 AT

Honda Cr V Used 4

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 51,000 / List Price: Rs. 1,415,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,520,000

Why buy: Equipped with comprehensive insurance and automatic transmission, this petrol-powered SUV is a dream car, available at a modest price (considering the exorbitant range for SUVs) and is currently placed with its first owner. Although this is five years old and has seen considerable road time, it should be capable of churning out a few more years of quality service.

Buy it here

Recommendation #2: Toyota Fortuner 3.0 Limited Edition

Toyota Fortuner Used 6

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 23,652 / List Price: Rs. 1,775,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,690,000

Why buy: Sporting a shimmering shade of gold, this car will immediately grab your attention with its scintillating appearance. Running on diesel and currently with its second owner, it has not taxed the odometer much, and remains relatively fresh for daily use as well as long distance adventures.

Buy it here

Recommendation #3: Toyota Fortuner 3.0 4X4 MT

Toyota Fortuner Used 5

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 23,652 / List Price: Rs. 2,000,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,406,000

Why buy: There is something uniquely appealing about big, bold, black SUVs, and this diesel fueled first owner car is no different. It will definitely stretch your budget, but given its impeccable condition and relatively tender age of three years, all signs point to this being a worthwhile investment.

Buy it here

Recommendation #4: Toyota Fortuner 3.0 4×2 MT

Toyota Fortuner Used 4

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 72,000 / List Price: Rs. 1,715,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,400,000

Why buy: Another SUV that is placed with its first owner and runs on diesel, there are obvious mileage concerns with this vehicle. However, given Toyota’s reputation, a pronounced tally on the odometer should not impact performance in the foreseeable future, meaning that this silver vehicle remains in contention.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Toyota Fortuner 3.0 4X4 MT

Toyota Fortuner Used 3

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 24,152 / List Price: Rs. 2,085,258 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,406,000

Why buy: Another spick and span vehicle in this category, this white SUV is also a first owner car that relies on diesel. What puts it at the bottom of the pack despite its decent mileage is its relatively high price and age, especially compared to the newer vehicles featured here that are in better condition.

Buy it here

In Summary

Honda sets the pace early on for this category with an exemplary car that seems set to win every contest based on every parameter. However, should it still fail to convince you, Toyota has the requisite alternatives to ensure that potential buyers do not exit this list without arriving at a decision.

Tata Nexon’s 5 star safety rating gets a hilarious new ad

$

Back in December last year, the Tata Nexon became India’s first car to achieve a perfect 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP safety tests. The sub-4 meter SUV received 16.06 points out of 17, which was the highest score achieved by any car ever made in India at that time. Other manufacturers have also started taking safety more seriously and have started equipping their cars with basic safety features apart from focusing on a more stable structure. The government has also churned out a slew of mandates in a bid to make passenger vehicles much more safer. Tata recently released a TVC which highlights the Nexon’s 5-star safety rating in a hilarious manner. Take a look at the video below by ashish katariya which shows a quirky yet hilarious Nexon TVC.

This TVC focuses on how accidents can happen anytime and anywhere in one’s life. In the TVC, we see a couple who is discussing another woman’s attire, which the lady ere thought was a bit wacky. The man, on the other hand, praises the dressing sense and beauty of the woman who is the subject here, all the while being deeply engrossed in his phone. This is then followed by his wife coming near him with a questioning glare in her eyes. Here the TVC pops up a text with Accidents written in bold. The next part goes on to state that ‘Accidents, they happen’. The Nexon’s 5-star safety rating then takes the centre stage with an emphasis on the point that it can protect you in case of unfavourable situations, though we doubt if it can save a man from his angry wife.

Nexon Tvc

Talking about the Nexon, it comes with several safety features like full channel ABS with EBD, specially designed body shell, platform and structure for stability and strength, ISOFIX child seat mounts, dual-front airbags, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, cornering stability control, front fog lamps with cornering assistance, voice warning for various alerts and driver & co-driver seatbelt reminder. All these features, except for the reversing camera and the front fog lamps, are standard across all the variants of the Nexon.

Nexon Safety 2

Its chief rival, the Maruti Vitara Brezza scored 4 stars in the Global NCAP safety test. For enhancing the safety of passenger cars, the Indian government has taken several steps of late including the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assesment Program (BNVSAP) and passed a mandate on equipping cars with features like seat belt reminders, high-speed warning system, and driver side airbag among others.

Talking about the engines on the Tata Nexon, it gets both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged unit that generates 108 Bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that generates 108 Bhp of power and 260 Nm of torque. Both the engine options are offered with 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed AMT gearbox.

Suzuki Motorcycles India has launched its latest bike in the form of the Gixxer 155 facelift. The 150 cc segment bike is priced at Rs. 1,00,212 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it around Rs. 12,000 more than than the outgoing model which was priced at Rs. 88,390 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike carries forward the design language of the previous model but marries it with several new elements like LED headlamps among other bits. Basically, it is the same bike as the recently launched Gixxer SF sans the farings and a few other minor changes.

Gixxer 2

Talking about the design of the bike, the Gixxer 155 gets the same rims, tires, discs among other bits as found on the faired version of this motorcycle. On the front, the major change is in the form of the full LED headlamps which are also found on the Gixxer SF and the bigger Gixxer SF 250. This headlamp gives a distinctive appeal to the bike as it looks quite stylish and gets a grey plastic ring around it. The indicators and mirror stalks are placed at their usual positions while the fuel tank and the chrome-tipped exhaust canister are carried over from its faired sibling. A full LED instrument cluster replaces the older unit found on this Gixxer and displays all relevant information.

Gixxer

The engine powering the bike will is also shared with the Gixxer SF and the power output remains the same. The 155 cc air-cooled SOHC engine puts out 13.9 Bhp (14.1 PS) of power at 8,000 rpm along with 14 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox and is a fuel-injected unit, opposed to the carburetted unit found on the outgoing model. Performance of the naked Gixxer 155 could be a little bit better than its faired siblings as it has a kerb weight of 140 kg, which makes it 6 kg less than the Gixxer SF which has a kerb weight of 146 kg. However, the Gixxer SF will get benefitted from its farings that will help it have better aerodynamics during high speeds.

Gixxer 3

ABS is now standard on all bikes at and above 125 cc displacement and hence the new Gixxer 155 comes with ABS too. However, it is a single channel unit as is the case with the Gixxer SF. Unlike the Gixxer SF, the naked Gixxer 155 gets a regular handlebar and no clip-ons. The bike gets new tank faring extensions and split seats. Suzuki is offering the bike in three paint shades, which are – Black, Grey and Blue.

Gixxer 4

Dual disc brakes are now standard while the Fuel tank capacity is pegged at 12 litres, The bike has a ground clearance of 160 mm and the seat height is 795 mm, which 5 mm less than the outgoing model. The Gixxer 155 gets telescopic forks up front and monoshock at the rear. It rivals the likes of the Yamaha FZ, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 and Honda CB Hornet 160R among others in the segment.

TVS Apache RTR200 EF100 launched; India’s first ethanol bike

There’s no doubt in the fact that the automobile industry will slowly move from the current petrol and diesel scenario. With the depleting resources, manufacturers have started offering alternative fuel vehicles in the international markets including hydrogen-powered vehicles. Back in India, the market is gradually getting new alternative fuel products too. TVS became the first manufacturer in India to launch Apache RTR200 powered by Ethanol fuel.

Apache Ethanol 2

The new bike has been launched by Nitin Gadkari, who has been pushing the sugarcane mills to produce more ethanol. TVS first showcased the Apache RTR 200 4V Ethanol as a concept product at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Rtr 3

The manufacturer then worked on the product to make it production ready. The bike will be available in selected states initially. Later on, other states of the country will also get the Ethanol-powered Apache RTR 200. TVS has priced the motorcycle at Rs 1.2 lakh and it is currently available in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.

Rtr 2

The Apache RTR200 Fi E100, as the bike is called looks exactly the same as the regular version of the Apache. However, TVS has added new vibrant green graphics to the body that makes it look different and also projects the green power of the bike. The graphics also mention the word “Ethanol”. Coming to the engine, the bike gets a new Twin-Spray-Twin-Port EFI technology, which has been specially derived for burning Ethanol fuel. TVS claims that the new technology ensures much better drivability, quicker throttle response and a massive reduction in the emission levels. The RTR200 Fi E100 produces a maximum power 21 PS at 8,500 rpm and peak torque of 18.1 Nm at 7,000 rpm. It can reach a top speed of 129 km/h. Ethanol is not a derivative of crude oil, which makes it very special. The use of Ethanol in vehicles can also bring down the pollution levels.

Rtr 1

Shri. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company said,

We are delighted to launch the TVS Apache RTR 200 Ft E100 in the presence of Hon’ble Minister for Road Transport & Highways of India; & Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri. Nitin Jairam Gadkari who has created a roadmap for the implementation of future mobility in the country.

Today, the two-wheeler industry is looking at green and sustainable future mobility solutions spanning across electric, hybrid and alternative fuels. TVS Motor Company believes that Ethanol-based products are an important option for our customers. This is due to the easy compatibility in the transition to Ethanol and its sustained positive impact on the environment without compromising on performance and total cost of ownership. TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi E100 is a breakthrough in two-wheeler space that will set the trend for a green future in India.

In the future, TVS may launch scooters powered by the same technology.

Hyderabad commissioner’s Toyota Fortuner BUSTED for unpaid speeding fines thanks to Social Media pressure

$

0

The police forces from many parts of the country have become active on the social media platform and have adopted digital ways to issue fines to the motorists. This new way of issuing fines has caused the number of fines to go up in the recent past. The citizens have also started using social media platforms to report any wrongdoings of other motorists on the roads. The online platform has allowed the citizens to make sure that the other motorists on the roads also follow proper rules and this also goes true for the government officials and policemen.

A similar case happened with the municipal corporation commissioner in Hyderabad who had to pay fines after his vehicle was reported on social media. Even though the total amount of fine was only Rs 6,210, the commissioner and the municipal corporation faced a major embarrassment because of this issue. The pictures of his official white coloured Toyota Fortuner became viral on the Internet and a picture of pending fines was uploaded too.

All the violations are done by the vehicle were of overspeeding/dangerous driving. There were six instances on the official Hyderabad Traffic Police page that shows the vehicle with pending overspeeding challan. The vehicle with the official numberplate TS09FA4248 is used by M Dana Kishore, who is an IAS officer. As per the reports, Mr Kishore is driven around by his driver and he himself does not drive the vehicle.

The Traffic Police also mentioned that the violations took place near Chennama Hotel, which falls under the Rajender Nagar traffic police. Two other violations took place under Shamshabad traffic police jurisdiction, Even Vanasthali Puram Traffic police issued a fine for overspeeding/dangerous driving near the Hyderabad’s outer ring road. The car was last fined at Gachibowli junction. The commissioner paid the fines immediately after he learnt about it from social media. Each fine of Rs 1,000 comes out to be Rs 1,035 with user charges.

Commisisioner

It should be noted that such pending fines can add up over time and the final amount can snowball into a large number. This is why the traffic police always advise the motorists to check for online pending challans every now and then. Earlier, many motorists got caught with hefty fine amounts of around Rs 1 lakh, which is a large sum. In case the vehicle owner does not pay the fine on the spot, the vehicle can get seized and a court challan is issued. Every now and then, the police officers at the junction of road randomly put in the registration number of the vehicles waiting for the signal to turn green. Any motorists with pending challan is stopped and is asked to pay the fine on the spot.

Newly launched Suzuki Gixxer 150 facelift on video: Top speed and braking test timings revealed

$
0
0

Suzuki today launched the much awaited facelifted version of the Gixxer 155 in India. Priced at Rs. 1. lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the bike features an updated design as well as technical upgrades, though the engine output has gone down a bit. The bike is available in three paint shades, which are – Sparkle Black, Metallic Sonic Silver, and Metallic Triton Blue. The Metallic Triton Blue colour looks quite spectacular on the bike and the same is used in the video below by Dino’s Vault. Let’s now take a look at the video before getting on further details like acceleration, top speed, and braking test numbers.

According to the rider in the video, the Gixxer 155 continues to offer the same comfort levels as the older bike along with better performance since the engine now is a fuel-injected unit and not carburetted, which was the case with the older model. Also, the split seats enhance the aesthetic appeal of the bike but also take a toll on pillion comfort, though not to the extent that things get uncomfortable. The low and mid-range response of the engine is quite good which makes it pretty easy to ride in the city.

Talking about the top speed of the bike, in the video we see it reach a top speed of 120 km/h. In the braking department, the bike goes from 64 km/h to 0 km/h in 1.5 seconds. As seen in the video, it can comfortably cruise at speeds of around 80 km/h. Do note that the bike used in this test is a brand new example and hence the top speed along with cruising speed and overall performance will improve after the first service and a few thousand kilometres. In terms of top speed, it will still be behind its fully faired sibling as the latter has better aerodynamics to cut through air resistance at high speeds.

Gixxer 2

The loss of farings has benefitted the Gixxer in another way though, which is weight saving. The bike has a kerb weight of 140 kg which is a full 6 kgs less than the Gixxer SF that weighs 146 kg. Also, Suzuki has gone with regular flat handlebars on this bike instead of the clip-on units seen on the Gixxer SF in order to maintain an easy riding position. The single piece full LED headlamp looks pretty good and so does the LED tail lamps. The Suzuki Gixxer 155 facelift is powered by a 155 cc air-cooled SOHC fuel injected engine that puts out 13.9 Bhp (14.1 PS) of power at 8,000 rpm along with 14 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Suzuki has equipped the motorcycle with a single channel ABS as it is now standard on all bikes above 125 cc displacement. The bike gets new tank faring extensions and split seats. Its main rivals include the likes of the Yamaha FZ, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 and Honda CB Hornet 160R among others in the segment.

Dalai Lama’s Land Rover for sale, costs over Rs. 1 crore; You can buy it too!

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who is one of the most loved spiritual leaders in the world is known for his passion and his teachings. He was chosen right ahead of World War 2 and since then has become one of the most recognisable faces around the world. His personal vehicle, which served him for more than 10 years is up for sale and the asking price is Rs 1 crore.

Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama used this Land Rover Series IIA as his personal vehicle from 1966 to 1976 in Dharamshala, India. The mountain city became the home of the Dalai Lama after escape from Tibet when the Chinese invaded the plateau country. Even though Dalai Lama never drove the vehicle, he used the vehicle to roam around a lot and spent a long time on the co-driver seat.

Dalai Lama 4

He used the vehicle quite frequently and travelled in it often. The car was restored in 2006 and during the restoration, it had more than 1.10 lakh km on the odometer. The vehicle was not only in India but it crossed the border to reach Nepal several times and also travelled throughout the Himalayan range. Of course, the low-ratio 4X4 capabilities of the Land Rover Series IIA did come in handy. Since the Himalayan roads remained unpaved for a long time and it was not an easy road ahead, only 4X4 vehicles were able to climb to these places.

Dalai Lama 5

Now the Land Rover Series IIA is an iconic vehicle. In 1992, 31 years after the launch of the Series IIA, Land Rover claimed that more than 70% of the vehicles sold by them are still operational and are on the roads. It speaks volumes about the car’s reliability.

Dalai Lama 2

Dalai Lama took the delivery of the Land Rover Series IIA in 1966. He especially visited the factory in the UK and there are pictures of him on the assembly line of the plant. The vehicle came with a 2.25-litre, four-cylinder, in-line engine which were known for their much miles easily without breaking down. After the Series II was discontinued in 1961, the Series IIA was launched and it remained in production till 1971, when it was officially replaced by the Land Rover Series III.

The Dalai Lama’s vehicle was sold after ten years of usage and there is no history of the vehicle after that. However, in 2005, it came back for a restoration job at West Coast British. The vehicle was restored slowly because of its historical value and it took a year for the complete job. As per the restorers, the vehicle’s chassis did not have any rust, probably because it spent a lot of time away from the ocean. The car currently carries the original engine, transfer case and differentials which were rebuilt during its restoration. The interior and exterior were also restored carefully with the original paint and fabrics.

Dalai Lama 1

I will go on sale on 29th August and the price is estimated between $100,000 and $150,000, which translates into Rs 70 lakh to around Rs 1.2 crore. You can buy it by registering yourself here.

Rajiv Bajaj: Auto industry not ‘Chai ki Dukaan’ : Here’s why he’s saying this

$
0
0

Rajiv Bajaj, one of the most outspoken people in the market has remained a strong opposer of the forceful introduction of electric vehicles in the Indian market by banning small capacity petrol engines from the two-wheelers. Rajiv Bajaj, chief of Bajaj Auto has spoken his mind in an interview with CNBC-TV18 on the introduction of the EVs in India.

Mr Bajaj has said that he does not like incentives at all and one should not get “seduced” by the incentives. He said that no one should depend on the incentives as they can be removed as easily as they have been introduced in the market by the government. He also said that everyone in this business should not get excited because of the introduction of these incentives.

In the interview, he further appreciated the FAME benefits and has said that the government has introduced their best proposal ahead. He also said that the government is taking every step to make the EVs more successful in India. However, he criticised the government’s proposal to ban the small capacity petrol two-wheelers to promote the EV two-wheelers is not in the right direction. He said that to promote one thing, the government does not need to bury another thing, which is going well for the market.

Mr Bajaj also said that the industry is not “chai ka stall” and banning the regular vehicles to promote the EVs suddenly is something that the market will not like at all. He quoted that the ministry is overestimating what the industry can achieve in next 1 year and underestimating the things that they can achieve in the next ten years. This is why the govt is pushing for the EVs.

2019 Bajaj Pulsar 220f Abs Featured

On being asked about EVs and when Bajaj will introduce them in the market, Rajiv Bajaj said that they will introduce them but did not give a timeline. It should be noted that the Indian government has proposed to ban all the two-wheelers up to 125cc in the future to promote the EVs in the market. It is not known if the government will take the step but it has already received strong opposition from the manufacturer. EVs have a long way to go on the Indian market and the infrastructure to charge the EVs on the go is still missing. However, the government is taking steps to set-up new charging centres around the countries and we may get to see charging stations becoming common in the coming years.

Maruti Alto continues to be India’s best selling: Swift in 2nd place

$

Maruti Alto, the brand’s entry level hatchback, continues to be India’s best selling car, with over 18,000 units sold in June 2019. Maruti Suzuki dispatched 18,733 units of the Alto to dealer stockyards across the country. The Swift came second, with total sales of 16,330 units. The third best selling car in India is also a Maruti Suzuki – in this case the Dzire compact sedan – with sales of 14,868 units. The Alto’s big numbers come at a time when the entire car industry in India is reeling under a sales slowdown. Year on year, Alto’s sales have grown by 4 % and this growth is a big deal when the entire industry is facing severe headwinds. Maruti recently introduced a mild facelift for the Alto 800, and the newer car is likely to attract many new customers for a few months. Maruti is also working on a new hatchback that will look butch and sit in between the Alto and WagonR.

2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 4

An all-new version of the Maruti Alto is in the works, and is likely to be launched sometime next year, a time when the current car becomes 8 years old. Talking of the current-generation model, it has been a best seller for years. It’s bought by young and old alike, and a lot of first time car buyers opt for the Alto. The car’s strong sales is due to many factors coming together. It’s extremely reliable and affordable to run, and maintain. The car is also priced very attractively, and is backed by the best after sales in the industry.

The Alto is available with manual and automatic gearbox options. Both petrol and CNG fuel options are offered with the car. The Alto 800 uses a 796cc, F8D petrol engine with 47 Bhp of peak power and 69 Nm of peak torque.

The bigger engine is sold ith 5 speed manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options. Prices of the Alto start from Rs. 3.03 lakhs.

The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on July 10, 2019; so, by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available. However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out.
There is simply no catching Hyundai in this segment, which means:
• Economy and efficiency are both in abundant supply from Hyundai.
• Hyundai Eon is the big winner in this part of the market, delivering five strong variants, none of which is unworthy of being featured.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Hyundai Eon D-Lite Plus

Hyundai Eon Used 6

Year: 2018 / Mileage: 72,000 / List Price: Rs. 265,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 368,000

Why buy: Equipped with insurance, this car is currently placed with its first owner and runs on petrol. Sporting a no-nonsense look in white, this car is just a year old, though it has covered substantial distance in that time. Its affordable price and excellent condition are its biggest drawing points, and should be enough to seal the deal for most buyers on the market.

Recommendation #2: Hyundai Eon Era +

Hyundai Eon Used 7

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 72,000 / List Price: Rs. 259,700 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 364,000

Why buy: This white hatchback may have seen a fair bit of road time, but it is still in impeccable condition, and with its first owner. Armed with an insurance copy and a copy of RC this car is known for an impeccable brake and suspension performance, and should give the car in top spot a run for its money.

Recommendation #3: Hyundai Eon D-Lite +

Hyundai Eon Used 8

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 13,423 / List Price: Rs. 284,200 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 349,000

Why buy: In many ways, this blue hatchback, which is placed with its first owner and runs on petrol, combines the best features of the top two cars. This means that not only does it become a contender for your attention on this list, but with a virtually semi-new condition, manages to convince most buyers that its relatively higher price is worth the investment.

Recommendation #4: Hyundai Eon Magna Plus

Hyundai Eon Used 9

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 33,755 / List Price: Rs. 290,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 376,000

Recommendation #5: Hyundai Eon Sportz

Hyundai Eon Used 10

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 68,898 / List Price: Rs. 300,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 404,000

Maruti Eeco BEATS Brezza, Hyundai Venue & Creta: Omni effect!

$

Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the Omni passenger and cargo van variants after the vehicle was unable to meet the new safety norms under the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Prpgram (BNVSAP) regime. To make up for the Omni’s loss, Maruti equipped the Eeco passenger and cargo van with ABS, driver airbag, reverse parking sensors, and seat belt reminder for the vehicle to confirm to BNVSAP norms. Now, the Eeco seems to have clearly replaced the Maruti Omni, and the sales numbers reflect just this. The Eeco actually outsold the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Creta, and managed to become India’s 7th largest selling car in June 2019. The van clocked its best ever monthly numbers with 9,265 units in June 2019. This is a 65 % year-on-year increase in sales numbers. In June 2018, the Eeco clocked 5,612 units.

Maruti Eeco 5 Seater Ac Bs Iv

The Maruti Brezza had a rough month, managing 8,871 units down from 10,713 units in June 2018, which represents a 17 % fall in sales. The Maruti Brezza is expected to get a facelift and a new petrol engine shortly, and this should arrest the sales slide to some extent. The recently launched Hyundai Venue did 8,763 units, very healthy numbers for a new vehicle while the Creta compact SUV, which is almost at the end of its life cycle, continues to be a strong seller, clocking 8334 units in June 2019.

The introduction of the Hyundai Venue has eaten into Creta sales, and this is reflected by the 25 % drop in volumes (The Hyundai Creta did 11,111 units in June 2018). All in all, the big takeaway here is the fact that the utilitarian Maruti Eeco is actually outselling many aspirational SUVs in the Indian market, and has proven to be an excellent replacement to the Maruti Omni. In fact, history is repeating here. When Maruti discontinued the 800 many years ago, the Alto seamlessly took over. We’re seeing something similar happening with the Eeco and the Omni.

The Eeco is a sub-4 meter passenger van that’s offered in 5 seat and 7 seat variants. The Eeco also gets a cargo variant that is a two seater, with the rest of the space converted into a cargo loading area. Like the Maruti Omni, the Eeco has sliding doors. It’s powered by a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder petrol engine that puts out 72 Bhp of peak power and 104 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mid-mounted and powers the rear wheels of the van by means of a 5 speed manual gearbox. The Eeco is available with petrol and petrol-CNG dual fuel trims. The passenger van is India’s least priced 7 seater, with prices starting from just Rs. 3.8 lakhs for the 7 seater variant. The 5 seater variant is even cheaper, with a price tag of Rs. 3.51 lakhs.

Honda Jazz Electric SPIED testing in India

Japanese automaker Honda has been spotted testing the Jazz Electric hatchback on Delhi NCR roads. The electric Jazz is expected to be launched in India sometime next year, as Honda’s first electric vehicle for the Indian market. The automaker has been selling hybrid cars in India, with the previous generation Civic Hybrid being the first such car from the brand. Currently, the Accord Hybrid is Honda’s only hybrid car in India. An electric car from the brand has never been sold here, and the Jazz electric (based on the 3rd generation version) is likely to be here soon. The electric vehicle on test though is the second generation Jazz, which will be discontinued early next year. The all-new Jazz will be showcased at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show later this year, and the premium hatchback will get a range of powertrain options: petrol, diesel, all-electric and petrol hybrid.

The all-new Honda Jazz Electric will be mainly meant for the Chinese car market, where electric vehicles are quite popular. Honda is likely to earmark a small number of the new Jazz Electric for the Indian market, but don’t expect the car to be cheap. A price tag of around Rs. 15 lakhs is likely for the electric version of the Jazz, which is expected to have a range of about 300 kilometers per charge.

Exact details about the car will be known by the end of this year, and actual sales will commence internationally from next year. The electric powered version of the Jazz will be aimed primarily at city car buyers. In India, Honda is likely to launch the car as a presence marker and brand builder in the slow but steadily growing electric vehicle segment. It’ll take on the likes of the Maruti WagonR EV and the upcoming Nissan Leaf electric vehicle.

Honda Jazz Electric Spyshot 2

The Indian government has come up with an aggressive electrification plan for vehicles in India. The government wants all vehicles sold in the country to move to electric power by 2030. Automakers have expressed their reservations about this timeline. The government for its part, is doing its bit to encourage the manufacture and adoption of electric vehicles by announcing attractive subsidies both for manufacturers and buyers through the FAME-II (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Electric Vehicles) scheme. Even the union budget of 2019 announced that electric car buyers will get hefty interest subsidy (leading to lower income tax) on loans taken to purchase electric vehicles. The first of the mass market electric vehicles are likely to make a big splash next year, with the likes of the Maruti WagonR Electric and MG eZS models. Hyundai has already launched the Kona electric SUV.

WILDEST things people have done with supercars in India: Off Roading to Uber taxi

$
0
0

Supercars evoke interest in big and small alike. These beautiful machines can be termed as technical and mechanical marvels running on roads. However, good things come at a cost and thanks to our CBU import duties, the cost of supercars in India is exorbitant to say the least. Therefore, even spotting a supercar on the street can make the day for a regular guy like me and you. Most of the supercar owners are known to take good care of their cars but then there are some who use it like just another car and we don’t have any complaints. After all, a man is entitled to use his machine as he wants. On the same note, here are five examples in which these glorious machines were found doing the unexpected.

Driving on really bad roads/off-road conditions

One of the major issues of owning a supercar in India is the sad condition of roads which renders them pretty useless. Moreover, supercars have low ground clearance by design since they need to be as aerodynamic as possible. Both these combinations combine to create some real challenges for supercar owners. The same is shown in the video above in which we see a Lamborghini Huracan in a tight situation trying to get over a huge crater of a pothole on the road. This is the reason why most of the supercar owners pre-plan their routes in order to avoid getting stuck midway through their joyride.

‘Home delivered’ like a pizza!

Food delivery services have made it easy to get your favourite food delivered at your doorsteps. Pizza chains across the country have been doing this much before other players jumped into the scene. But what if we tell you that some supercar owners get their new rides delivered to their homes like a pizza, all fresh and wrapped. The video above shows a shining new Lamborghini Huracan Performance that is all wrapped up and brought to its buyers home loaded on a flatbed truck. So while it is said the money can’t buy happiness, it can certainly get you a new supercar delivered at your doorsteps, Pizza style.

Dealing with speed breakers

This video shows one of the most exotic supercars ever to have been made on earth. So much so that it isn’t even a supercar but a hypercar. Despite all those mad horses prancing out of its engine and the high tech gimmickry it comes loaded with, the Bugatti Veyron here is brought to its knees by our famed roads.  Due to the poor design and implementation of speed breakers on our roads, even regular sedans find it tough to pass without kissing the raised piece of tarmac. This particular incident is said to have happened while a potential buyer was having a test drive of the car. We guess this speed breaker would have had him change up his mind and he decided not to part with nearly Rs. 20 crore of his fortune for this car.

Using a supercar as Uber taxi

Mere mortals like us get elated when our cab ride gets upgraded from micro to prime (hatchback to sedan) without any extra charge. What this video shows can hence be termed as a miracle of sorts. A last-gen Audi R8 is used as Uber cab in the video and the people who booked the car were shown a Maruti Dzire during their bookings. No need to mention the shock those people got when a swanky Audi R8 pulled next to them as their Uber ride.

This was actually part of a prank in which the R8 was registered as a Maruti Dzire on the Uber cab platform. The guy driving the car talked to the person who booked the cab on the phone and then reached the pickup spot. The faces of those people is really a sight to see during the ride to their destination. After all, it’s not daily that you get picked up by a supercar upon booking a Dzire cab.

Drifting on public roads

While watching Fast & Furious-Tokyo Drift, I was mesmerized by the chase scene which involves several cars drifting in the middle of the city ending up in the death of one of the supporting protagonists. While the whole drifting sequence was really well put together, the death part at last immediately pulled me back to senses and made me realize about the dangers of rash driving on public roads. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 in the video above is seen taken a turn and then launching into a powerslide on a public road in Bangalore. There is no denying the fact that it all looks quite cool, but at the same time is a dangerous antic to perform on public roads as it endangers the life of both the driver as well as other people sharing the road. Also, in movies, all the scenes are done in a controlled environment with the assistance of specialized people.

Why buy: Equipped with automatic transmission, running on petrol, and currently with its first owner, this is a top draw vehicle that comes in a scintillating white. In spite of being five years old and having covered sufficient distance, it remains a force to be reckoned with due to its impressive durability, making it the A-list car on this compilation.

Recommendation #2: Ford EcoSport 1.5 Titanium Ti VCT

Ford Ecosport Used 31

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 42,029 / List Price: Rs. 575,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 827,000
Why buy: Currently placed with its first owner and available with comprehensive insurance, this petrol fueled SUV makes for a striking appearance in a shimmering shade of silver. A balanced price, healthy mileage, and efficient features make this the complete package, a deserving candidate for the second slot.

Recommendation #3: Ford EcoSport 1.5 Trend TDCi

Ford Ecosport Used 32

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 72,149 / List Price: Rs. 520,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 817,000

Why buy: Residing with its first owner, this white SUV is a powerful car that comes with comprehensive insurance and runs on diesel. An economic price is an asset, but its substantial mileage combined with its age may rule it out of immediate contention, sliding it down to the middle of this pack.

Recommendation #4: Ford EcoSport Titanium 1.5 TDCi

Ford Ecosport Used 29

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 21,000 / List Price: Rs. 681,100 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 917,000

Why buy: Sporting an eye catching red colour, this first owner diesel SUV packs quite the punch with an impressive array of features. But whether its relatively hefty price is worth an investment given its strikingly low mileage is the tradeoff that will decide how many buyers are interested in picking this car up.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Ford EcoSport Titanium 1.5 TDCi

Ford Ecosport Used 28

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 71,912 / List Price: Rs. 637,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 917,000

Why buy: In terms of looks, this white SUV is one of the leading cars on this list, complete with leatherette interior furnishing. What pushes it down to the last spot is its record on the odometer as well as its high price, both of which could lead buyers to leave this otherwise fine vehicle out of contention.

Buy it here

In Summary

In terms of spectacular looks, this has to be one of the most glamorous exhibitions of cars for Bangalore. However, most of these cars have witnessed sufficient road time, which will require consideration as a potential purchaser. While the top two SUVs seem well ahead of the rest of the pack, any of the other three would also make for a sensible bit of business.

Five cars from three manufacturers, which means:
• Lively competition in the SUV segment, with Ford faring particularly well.
• Honda and Toyota also make an impact, with the former providing the best car in the segment.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Honda CR V 2.0 AT

Honda Cr V Used 5

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 35,000 / List Price: Rs. 1,600,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,378,000
Why buy: Available in a sophisticated silver colour, and equipped with automatic transmission, this first owner petrol SUV is a winner on pretty much all the major parameters. Not wildly expensive for a car in this range, and still relatively fresh, this is a fitting choice for pole position and a place in your garage.

Buy it here

Recommendation #2: Ford Endeavour Titanium 3.2 4X4 AT

Ford Endeavour Used 1

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 55,000 / List Price: Rs. 2,205,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 3,066,000

Why buy: Another first owner diesel SUV that comes with automatic transmission, this vehicle is available in an imperious white and might even possess more firepower than the top car on this list. What deprives it of a place at the summit are its steep mileage and price, both of which do not stack up favorably to its predecessor.

Buy it here

Recommendation #3: Ford Endeavour 3.2 Titanium AT 4X4

Ford Endeavoour Used 2

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 44,100 / List Price: Rs. 2,350,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 3,066,000

Why buy: Boasting automatic transmission as well as comprehensive insurance and an eye popping red colour, this is one of the most flamboyant SUVs you are likely to find in Chennai. Delivering on both substance and style, this diesel first owner SUV remains a leading option, even though its price may put it beyond the range for some customers.

Buy it here

Recommendation #4: Ford Endeavour Titanium 3.2 4X4 AT

Ford Endeavour Used 3

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 29,338 / List Price: Rs. 2,600,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 3,066,000

Why buy: Continuing the streak of first owner diesel cars with automatic transmission, this is another power packed car with impressive mileage and a bold red look that enhances its appearance. The only possible deterrent could once again come down to budgeting issues, as the price gets escalated for this superb vehicle.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Toyota Fortuner 2.5 4X2 AT TRD Sportivo

Toyota Fortuner Used 7

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 74,995 / List Price: Rs. 2,000,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 2,535,000

Why buy: Transmission, fuel, and ownership status are the same for this one as the three previous cars on this list. Available in white, this comes at less of a pocket pinch than the cars immediately above it, but its combination of mileage and age is concerning. Nonetheless a decent fall back option to round off this list.

Buy it here

In Summary

There is a fascinating diversity to this list. Honda gets the ball rolling with a superbly efficient SUV, before Ford takes over with a hat-trick of stylish cars with good durability, and Toyota completes the collection with another potential showstopper, whose primary problem is mileage. A lot to digest from this compilation before you take your pick.

Nissan GT-R supercar stunts ILLEGALLY near PM’s house: Cops launch manhunt

$

Delhi Police has launched a massive search after a Nissan GT-R supercar was caught doing illegal stunts near a highly sensitive area in the region. As per the news report on ABP NEWS, an Audi car was spotted doing tricks late at night. However, after we reviewed the footage, it turns out to be a Nissan GT-R.

The car reportedly did a few burnouts at Vijay Chowk and then sped away from the spot. The loud noise created by the GT-R allegedly alerted the police and journalists who were present on late-night duty at the place. The Vijay Chowk area is a high-security area due to its proximity to the sensitive installations like the Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan. It is also only a few kilometres away from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s house. A large force of law enforcement officers is posted here round the clock to ensure the safety of the famous buildings and people residing in them.

The exact time of the stunt done by the Nissan GT-R is not known, but the CCTV footage shows a timestamp of 4:30 AM. Around this time, the area remains secluded and is often visited by morning walkers and cyclists. However, in the video, no one else can be spotted, including other cars. The cops are yet to identify the owner and the vehicle’s registration number. However, they are scanning the footage of various CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity to get the exact details of the car and its owner.

The car in the video looks unique and has a dual-tone colour on the exterior. In fact, the front-end of the car could be carbon fibre set-up. Since such vehicles are quite rare in the Indian market, the cops are expected to identify the culprit sooner than later.

Doing stunts on the public road is an illegal act and the culprits can be punished using various laws. Also, the owner can be sent to jail and the vehicle can get seized. Since the incident happened in a high-profile area, the cops are trying to solve the case as soon as possible. Public road stunts can be extremely dangerous, even if the roads are empty. Since there is no control over the entry of the other vehicles on the road, massive accidents can happen. Also, public roads are uncontrolled situations and if anything goes wrong or the car loses control, the damage to the public property can be massive.

In the past, cops from many other states including Delhi, have arrested stunt riders. However, this is one of its first-time cases when a supercar has been involved in doing stunts on the public roads of Delhi. One should always do such stunts at a controlled place or a racetrack where the entry of other vehicles can be controlled. Such places are much safer to do stunts and are also not illegal.

Pune-based Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Altroz premium hatchback in India. The near-production version of the car was shown at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and the premium hatchback will rival the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Hyundai Elite i20. In typical Tata style, the Altroz is likely to get sharp pricing, possibly undercutting the likes of the Baleno and Elite i20. Tata Motors has already set up a website for the car, and has just released three new teasers that show a bunch of new details. Check them out.

Tata Altroz Teaser 1

As the teasers indicate, the Tata Altroz will get conventional turn indicators that will sit on the fenders rather than the wing mirrors. The door handles of the rear door will be located on the window rill, similar to how they’re mounted on the new Maruti Swift. The alloy wheel design is also seen in the Altroz. The headlamps of the new car have also been partially revealed in the car.

The car will be offered with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon is likely to be offered on the Altroz, but the motor is likely to be detuned for better fuel efficiency. A peak power of about 90 Bhp is likely to be offered on the new engine. The diesel engine is likely to be the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged motor, again borrowed from the Nexon, and in detuned guise. Initially, Tata is likely to offer manual gearboxes with both engines of the Altroz. In due course of time, automatic options will also be offered on the car.

Tata Altroz Teaser 2

The Altroz will be the first premium hatchback from Tata Motors, and is likely to get plush interiors, a long list of features and plenty of space on the inside. Safety features such as twin airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, speed alerts, seat belt reminders and ISOFIX child seat mounting points are likely to be offered on the car. Higher variants could possibly get six airbags, a reverse parking camera and a few other safety features. The Altroz is just weeks away from launch, and bookings for the same are expected to be open soon. It’ll be positioned as a volumes puller for the brand, and Tata Motors will be hoping that it sells at least 4,000-5,000 units each month. The Tata Cassini (a 7 seat SUV based on the Harrier) will be launched by the end of this year.
