Tata Harrier: 5 Big CHANGES coming soon

Tata Harrier, which has become a popular model in the Indian market will soon get an update. The all-new Tata Harrier was launched in the Indian market earlier this year and the updated version of the car is likely to be launched by early 2020. The updated Harrier will be launched to make the vehicle compliant with the upcoming emission norms. The upcoming version of the car has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads too. Here are all five big changes in the 2020 Tata Harrier.

New features

Tata Harrier 20

Tata is expected to add a slew of new features to the Harrier to arm it in the extremely competitive segment. The upcoming Tata Harrier that has been spotted testing gets a sunroof on the outside. While sunroof is not a practical feature in India, many consumers do like to have it in their vehicles. With the electrically-powered sunroof in place, Tata is also expected to add a few additional features. However, the sunroof, which is missing from the current version of the vehicle will be added for sure with the update.

More powerful engine

The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre KRYOTEC engine, which is sourced from Fiat. It is the same 2.0-litre Multijet engine that powers the MG Hector and the Jeep Compass in the Indian market. Currently, it produces a maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. With the launch of the updated version, the power will match the Jeep Compass’ and MG Hector’s 173 PS – 350 Nm.

Automatic variant

Tata Harrier 26

The automatic transmission has become quite popular in the Indian market in recent times. However, Tata only offers a 6-speed manual transmission with the Harrier in the Indian market. However, with the update, Tata will source a new 6-speed automatic transmission from Hyundai and it will be available with the Harrier. The same transmission and engine combination will also power the all-new 7-seater version of the Harrier, which was revealed in the Geneva Motor Show as Buzzard. Hyundai uses the same 6-speed automatic transmission in the Tucson diesel.

Petrol power!

Tata is also working on an all-new petrol engine that will be available with the Harrier in the Indian market. The 1.6-litre engine was confirmed by Tata Motors at the Geneva Motor Show. It is a direct-injection engine that will produce close to 150 Bhp in the Harrier. The petrol version of the Harrier is expected to get a dual-clutch automatic transmission at a later stage. Initially, it will get a torque convertor as an automatic transmission.

Better refinement and mileage

Tata Harrier 29

Tata is currently testing the BS6 compliant Harrier and when the vehicle enters production, it is expected to be better refined and offer more mileage than the current version. The new engine will be an upgrade of the current 2.0-litre engine available with the Harrier. It will become much smoother and better to drive with the update while the overall fuel efficiency will increase due to the BS6 update.

Almost all cars sold in the country now come equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system on their higher variants. Even sub-5 lakh hatchbacks now offer touchscreen infotainment on their top-end variants. However, a lot of people still own cars that don’t come with touch infotainment systems or buy the lower variants of the car of their choice which unfortunately does not offer a touch infotainment system. While many go for aftermarket fitments to get an infotainment system, Maruti Suzuki has now come up with an alternative in the form of the Smartplay Dock.

Mobile Smart Play Studio

To be more precise, the Smartplay Dock is a mobile application of the same name that can transform your phone to act as the infotainment of your car. It is a simple, quick and safe way to access smartphone functionality when inside a car. To let you know, using a phone while behind the wheel is an offence according to our laws. However, fixing the phone on a phone mount and using it for navigation among other uses are allowed. The Smartplay Dock app is available for download on both the Playstore as well as the Apple App Store.

When installed, the Smartplay Dock app transforms your smartphone into a full-fledged touch screen infotainment device. It can be mounted on a specialised mounting dock that can be positioned where usually infotainments are found, that is, on the mid dashboard area. The app allows you to play your favourite music from your smartphone via Bluetooth or 3rd party apps. The playback is controlled by simple gestures that are pretty easy to understand. Moreover, audio can be played from multiple media sources such as AM, FM, USB, Aux, BT, iPod.

Apart from music, the app also allows the user to make and receive calls, handle active calls and swap between multiple calls with ease. One can even comfortably read SMS/WhatsApp messages and even send template replies safely. The functionality offers intuitive one-touch access and encourages a safer communication. There is an Assist feature that displays vehicular information and regular alerts about the car. This includes information and warning about fuel economy and driving range, Door Open, Low Fuel, Seat Belt Open, and Parking Brake Engaged.

The Smartplay Dock App also supports Google Maps and hence displays fast and accurate directions along with nearby fuel pump and parking spot locations. Voice command support is also present and this helps to keep your hands off the steering wheel and your eyes on the road. It is a good feature for those who don’t have touchscreen infotainment on their Maruti cars and don’t want to shell much on it.

TVS Zepellin 212cc Cruiser to challenge Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350

TVS Motors could launch the production version of the 212cc Zepellin cruiser motorycle, which was first showcased as a concept at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The production version of the Zeppelin is all set to be launched in the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, according to BikeWale. The Zepellin cruiser will use a 212cc liquid cooled four stroke engine that will put out over 20 Bhp of peak power. This engine will be Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms, and will use fuel injection to comply with the tighter emissions. The engine is likely to get a four valve head running on twin overhead camshafts. Also, a 5 speed manual gearbox is likely to be offered with the bike, which will be positioned as a sporty ‘power’ cruiser. In terms of pricing, the TVS Zeppelin is likely to slot in between the Bajaj Avenger 220 on the lower end of the spectrum to the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 on the higher end of the price band. A price tag of around Rs. 1.2 lakhs is likely for the TVS cruiser. While the Bajaj Avenger is available with 150cc and 220cc engines, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird is available with 350cc and 500cc engines.

Tvs Zeppelin Cruiser

The LED headlamp, upside down front forks, spoked wheels, disc brakes on both wheels with dual channel ABS, and a start-stop system to cut down on emissions and fuel consumption, are expected to be carried over from the concept into production. Overall, the motorcycle will come as a refreshing new alternative in the cruiser space, which has traditionally been oriented towards relaxed offerings than a sporty one. The TVS Zeppelin is likely to be the NTorq of the cruiser segment. To keep costs low, a lot of parts such as the switchgear, footpegs and the instrument cluster could be borrowed from the Apache 200. The Zeppelin promises to be the second most expensive in the TVS Motors line-up, sitting below the flagship Apache 310 RR in terms of positioning.

In the past couple of years, TVS Motors has attempted to carve out niche segments in India with multiple two wheelers. One such motorcycle was the Apache RR310, which is derived from the BMW G 310 twins. The Apache 310, which is priced over Rs. 2 lakhs got off to a strong start but sales have tapered off. The sportsbike’s looks and dimensions give a big bike feel to riders, and are major selling points. TVS Motors also launched a sporty automatic scooter in the form of the NTorq. Aimed mainly at younger buyers, the NTorq not only gets sporty styling but also a powerful 125cc four stroke engine with a grunty exhaust note. The NTorq has been a big hit for the two wheeler giant.

Electric Cars | Is India Ready For Electric Mobility?

$

India stands on the cusp of a revolution in vehicular mobility. And Hyundai’s Kona, the country’s first electric SUV, is being seen as the harbinger of this new era. But, as the idiom goes, it takes two to tango. The automobile industry seems ready, can India match it step for step?

14hyundai Kona India

On the face of it, the answer is a resounding YES. The Indian government has pulled out all stops and offered a great spread of incentives, initiatives and subsidies to help EVs gain popularity and traction among the masses.

Here’s a look at these SOPS being rolled out:

FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Electric Vehicles part II) came into effect from April 1 this year, and the Centre has earmarked Rs 10,000 crore for this program.

About 86% of the funds are being set aside as an upfront incentive to manufacturers to help them reduce the cost of production.

Under FAME II, 2-wheelers get a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per kWh battery capacity. This is a great initiative to encourage adoption of the new-age vehicles, given the penetration of two-wheelers in smaller towns and cities.

A Bill to reduce GST on EVs from 12% to 5% will be tabled soon. If passed, the price of the Hyundai Kona will immediately go down by about Rs 1.5 lakh.

Cartoq In Article 02

The government has also thrown in an additional income tax deduction of Rs 1.5 lakh on interest paid on the loans taken to purchase an electric vehicle

There’s no doubting the government’s intent, or the will to step into a cleaner future that reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. But the government still stares into the complex matter of developing the infrastructure to support EV vehicles.

Globally, some countries have found a solution even to this problem. For example, all new homes in England will soon have to have provision for charging points. Our government, too, has taken the first step in this direction by inviting tenders to deploy charging infrastructure under FAME-II. The target is to get as many as 1,000 charging stations across India – each with multiple charging points — via those entities who show EOI (Expression of Interest).

Last but not least, under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), our government aims to achieve sales of 6-7 million hybrid and electric vehicles by 2020. This figure seems very optimistic, but as a vision, it’s no doubt a bold one to herald the electric mobility revolution.

For those who feel subsidies and incentives aren’t enough reason to look forward to this brave new world, here are all the other benefits that come with EVs.

They have almost zero NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels, come with extremely low maintenance cost (no servicing or change of fluids) and offer cheap running costs.

And before you ask, these motors offer full torque from the get-go, which means city-performance is more than ample.

With manufacturers lining up their EVs for launch in the next couple of years, it won’t be wrong to say the EVolution of Indian motoring is finally here. And all of us should be part of it.

EV or ICE (that’s internal combustion engine for you), every car needs service and maintenance to keep it healthy and spritely for years. Well, we have got just the right thing for you. If your answer is yes, then worry no more, for we have you covered with a comprehensive list for your requirements. You might think your demands are too specific, but even with your specific needs you will be left more confused than convinced by leading car websites. Moreover, they will have listings of cars that have not been precisely sorted, and hence are not in a position to give you the best deal. How do you decide which car suits you best? Used car websites are usually of little use, even with their multiple filters. The onus of sorting the information remains on you, and who wants to be digging a data mine? Fortunately, we have got just the right solution for you through the Cartoq TRUE PRICE.

Cartoq True Price Featured

By deploying the Cartoq TRUE PRICE, we help you identify the best deals. The Cartoq Data Science team has built a Machine Learning model that estimates the TRUE PRICE of a used car, after accounting for all sorts of variables – brand, model, age, mileage, and car type.  With all factors accounted for, the model predicts the TRUE PRICE, which then becomes the basis of comparison across cars. The best deals are those where listed price is lower than the TRUE PRICE. So, we scan through the car listings across major used car sites, compute their TRUE PRICE, and present the best deals for you.

The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on July 19, 2019; so, by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available. However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out.

Hyundai and Maruti take it in turns to impress, converting this list into a duopoly, which means:
• Both manufacturers are able to identify and execute the prerequisites for this category.
• Hyundai has the upper hand in the contest, delivering three cars to Maruti’s two, and also featuring in the top spot.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.6 SX CRDi Opt

Hyundai Verna Used 9

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 36,395 / List Price: Rs. 650,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 1,080,000

Why buy: A striking purple colour makes this car command your attention right away. Running on petrol, this first owner sedan ticks all the right boxes in terms of performance and provides an excellent balance between price and utility. Most buyers should not look any further than the numero uno on this list.

Recommendation #2: Hyundai Verna 1.6 VTVT S

Hyundai Verna Used 10

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 23,796 / List Price: Rs. 651,700 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 994,000

Why buy: This white first owner sedan has seen very little road time, and is in impeccable condition. With an advantage in age and mileage and a very similar price to the first car, this petrol car is a safe and reliable choice, and a natural fit high up on this list.

Buy it here

Recommendation #3: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz ZXI

Maruti Ciaz Used 2

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 26,975 / List Price: Rs. 660,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 877,999

Why buy: Residing with its first owner, this white sedan is a feasible option for a family car, given its spacious and comfortable features. This can also be an ideal solution for buyers caught in a dilemma between cars one and two on this list, especially considering that this is a virtually semi-new vehicle.

Recommendation #4: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz ZXI + RS MT

Maruti Ciaz Used 3

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 31,852 / List Price: Rs. 675,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 919,999

Why buy: Available in a rare shade of chocolate brown, this first owner sedan runs on petrol and is, in many ways, an upgrade on the third car just above it. However, its marginally higher mileage and slightly steeper price are responsible for sliding it down to the penultimate spot.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Hyundai Verna 1.6 SX VTVT O

Hyundai Verna Used 11

Year: 2013 / Mileage: 59,000 / List Price: Rs. 650,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 1,075,000

Why buy: Despite its stylish all white appearance, it is difficult for this first owner sedan to stand out on this list with an age of six years and a mileage touching 60,000 kilometers. Having said that, this is still a competitive car that is protected by insurance and is more than a decent fall back on this compilation.

Buy it here

In Summary

The Hyundai Verna, in all its variants, is the ideal car for the jam-packed roads of Bangalore. Its power and seamless driving experience makes it the car to stand out in such a collection. But Maruti also delivers the goods with its Suzuki doing exceedingly well, and providing a feasible alternative to those who are yet to be won over by Verna.

Hyundai I20 Used 10

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 44,056 / List Price: Rs. 380,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 714,000

Why buy: Available in black, this diesel second owner car may not be the most glamorous car out there, but it is still a solid option with a number of middle-of-the-range attributes. Not spectacular in any way, this premium hatchback is still worth a look because it will not let you down in terms of performance.

Recommendation #4: Honda Jazz 1.2 SV Petrol

Honda Jazz Used 4

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 53,699 / List Price: Rs. 400,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 649,000

Why buy: Capable of running on petrol as well as CNG, this car is a showstopper by virtue of its stunning white appearance. Having said that, the price and mileage combination is a cause for concern for this second owner vehicle, which is also bound to have a bit of wear and tear.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Hyundai i20 Sportz ABS CRDi

Hyundai I20 Used 11

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 64,000 / List Price: Rs. 350,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 594,943

Why buy: Another spick and span vehicle in this category, this silver hatchback is also a first owner car. What puts it at the bottom of the pack despite its decent price is its relatively high mileage, especially compared to the vehicles featured here that are in better condition.

In Summary

The Honda Jazz takes the cake on this list and its variant in top spot should cruise all the way into your garage. Failing that likelihood, Hyundai’s three options also provide formidable competition, adding to the appeal of this list and broadening your choice base.

Used Hyundai Venue SX Plus up for sale: Skip the waiting period

$

The asking price of this used Hyundai Venue SX Plus Turbo is Rs. 12.20 lakh. The ad describing the car says that it is around 45 days old and the odometer reading on the car reads just 2,507 kilometres. Being the top-end variant, it comes loaded with all the bells and whistles including the segment-first LED projector foglamps positioned in the lower side of the bumper, stylish alloy wheels, touch infotainment screen, and air purifier, sunroof, cruise control, blue link connectivity among others. You can contact the seller and check more details about the car by clicking here.

Venue Used 3

The Hyundai Venue was launched in India recently and the sub-4 meter SUV has already garnered quite a good response from buyers. Hyundai sold more than 8,000 units of the car last month which is pretty great, to say the least. Now with such rapid sales, the waiting period of any car will naturally shoot up and same is the case with the Venue. In some parts of the country, you’ll have to wait till up six months after booking the Venue before you get to drive it home. However, what if we tell you that you can buy a Hyundai Venue and drive it home almost instantly! That’s right, the Hyundai Venue featured here is a used example that can be had as soon as the paperwork is done.

It is the SX Plus variant, which is the top-end petrol variant. This also means that it comes with an automatic gearbox which is none other than the 7-speed dual-clutch box. The Venue is the first vehicle in its segment to come with a DCT box. A new SX Plus variant of the Venue costs Rs. 12.65 lakh on-road in Ambala. We are considering Ambala prices since this used example is available in Ambala.

Venue Used 2

The SX Plus variant is powered by the most powerful engine option available on the Venue, which is the new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This three-cylinder rocket is also one of the most powerful engine options in the category the 7-speed DCT here further sweetens the deal. This 3 cylinders turbocharged petrol engine puts out 118 Bhp of power along with 172 Nm of torque. Talking about mileage figures, the 1.0-litre petrol engine delivers 18.15 km/l with the 7-speed DCT unit.

Venue Used 4

Finished in all black, the car looks good and matches with the all-black interior theme. The question that now arises is whether should you go for it or not. Well, in our opinion, you can check out the vehicle if you are impressed by the Venue and were planning to buy it soon but don’t want to wait for long to get it delivered. Though at Rs. 12.20 lakh it isn’t cheap at all, the car is in brand new condition and moreover, the price can be further discussed upon finalising the deal.

One of the major reasons for the popularity of the 650 twins in the mod circuits is that both the bikes can be turned into almost any type of bike.

Till date, we have seen several scramblers, faired cafe racers, bobbers, cruisers and even dragsters among other types of modified 650 twins. Featured here today is another tough-looking scrambler made from a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. It has been made by Texas-based mod house known as Revival Cycles and the bikes for sure looks great. If you take a look at the video above, you’ll know that this one has the functionality to match its looks and is a scrambler in a true sense. Let’s now get to know more about this bike, which has been named the Desert Runner 650 by its creators.

Desert Runner 3

Starting from the front, the fenders have been replaced by custom off-road spec units and same is the case with the rear fender too, which is now a short chopped unit. The bike now runs on knobby off-road spec tires that provide enhanced grip over loose surfaces and off-road terrains. Both the front and the rear suspension have been lifted as well giving the bike a huge advantage in terms of ground clearance, something that is essential in a scrambler build.

Desert Runner

A bash plate has been added to the bottom while the seat and handlebars have been replaced too. The seat is now a sleek, ribbed unit while the handlebars have been chosen so as to offer the maximum grip to the rider while having fun off the road. The bike has been draped in black with white patches on either side of the tank.

Desert Runner 4

The headlamp and tail lamp are also aftermarket unit and suit the overall scrambler look of the bike.  All in all, the Desert Runner 650 looks quite badass and with all the modifications done on it.

Desert Runner 2

Talking about the stock Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, the bike is powered by a 647 cc, twin-cylinder, air-oil cooled engine which is a newly developed unit. The engine churns out 47 Bhp of power along with 52 Nm of torque, which makes this the most powerful Royal Enfield engine ever. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox along with a slipper clutch. The 650 twins are the most powerful and advanced bike from the company yet. The double-cradle chassis upon which the bikes are built has been designed with inputs from Harris Performance, UK.

6 UNCOMMON vehicles of Indian police forces

$

0

Armies around the world have special vehicles that are used during compact as well as during patrolling. The Indian Army also has a few armoured vehicles that are quite sophisticated, to say the least. The Indian state police forces, on the other hand, might not have any high-end vehicle but a few states do have several unusual and uncommon vehicles that are used to get the job done. Let’s take a look at few of these vehicles and the state police forces that owns them.

Polaris Crew 800

First up on the list is Kerala Police with their Polaris Crew 800. To let you know, Polaris is an American company that specialises in making All-Terrain Vehicles and Kerala police own four Crew 800. They included these Polaris vehicles in their patrol vehicle range to fight the Naxals but are currently being used for beach patrolling vehicles as they were found to be unstable and loud to fight the Naxalites. Currently, the six-seater Polaris Crew can be seen on many beaches in the state of Kerala. It is a CBU and costs around Rs. 18 lakhs.

ATVs

The Tamil Nadu Police force has a special division called the Coastal Security Group (CSG). The CSG uses All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to patrol and maintain the decorum at the state’s beaches. They own 12 such specially designed ATVs and these 500-cc machines are imported from Hong Kong. They are designed to move at a maximum speed of 20 km/h but are capable enough to cross the loose beach sand without any issues.

Renault Sherpa

The Renault Sherpa looks quite intimidating and is not used by any state police force but the NSG to help the state police. The Sherpa is a fully armoured vehicle and can stand heavy firing and even land mines. The butch looking vehicle is powered by a 4.76-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that generates a 215 Bhp of power along with and 800 Nm of torque. The Sherpa has seating space for up to 10 personnel in a 2+8 configuration. In a fully loaded state, the vehicle weighs 11 tons and can reach 110 km/h. It has a range of 1,000 km.

Mahindra Marksman

The Marksman is used by the police of several states as a riot-control vehicle. Built by Mahindra, it is India’s first light bulletproof vehicle that can withstand heavy firing and can protect against hand grenades too. Mahindra gave armour platings to the bottom of the vehicle to so that it can’t be harmed by landmines and hand grenades slipped under it. Powering the Marksman is a 2.5-litre CRDE engine that generates around 105 Bhp of power along with 228 Nm of torque. It can carry a maximum weight of 3,200 kg and can seat up to 6 people. The Marksman can go up to 120 km/h and is also used by the defence and paramilitary forces of Chile.

Sealegs boat

Seems like the Mumbai Police has to deal with crime on land as well as water. For the same, they got themselves a range of amphibious vehicles to patrol coastal regions. Called the Sealegs these vehicles can move on land as well as water without any problem ensuring all-round mobility for cops. The Mumbai Police has a specialised unit that operates the Sealegs and they can be often seen at the beaches of Mumbai.

Sealegs car

Apart from the ambitious Sealegs, Mumbai Police also has several Sealegs car that is equipped with 8 wheels and can seat up to 4 people. What they provide over their boat-shaped counterparts are better agility in movement and higher speed. On the downside though, the mobility and range of Sealegs car is pretty much limited in the sea.

Tata Hornbill (H2X) micro SUV to share more than 50 % parts with Altroz premium hatchback

Sharing parts and platforms is a key aspect of Tata Motors’ turnaround strategy in the Indian car market, and one that has been yielding good results for the automaker. The upcoming Altroz premium hatchback will be based on the brand new ALFA (Advanced Light Flexible Agile) architecture and will share parts with the Hornbill (H2X) micro SUV. Tata Motors’ CEO Guenter Butschek has noted that the Altroz and the Hornbill will share 70 % of parts despite being completely different vehicles. The idea is to offer buyers different body styles with the same underpinnings. This will allow Tata Motors to minimize development, inventory and production costs. The Altroz premium hatchback will be launched during this year’s festive season while the Hornbill micro SUV will arrive by the middle of next year. The 2020 Auto Expo could be used to show a near production version of the Hornbill.

Tata Hornbill Render 3

Meanwhile, here’s what Mr. Butschek told FortuneIndia when asked about how Tata Motors was turned around using common platforms,

We have built our future portfolio on two new architectures. First is called the ALFA (Advanced Light Flexible Agile) architecture, which we have for all our top heads from 3.7 to 4.2 metres. And 4.5 m and above is what we called the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture, which is actually a carryover of the Range Rover discovery platform. We have 12-14 top heads in these two architectures, which will have a high degree of commonality. But products will all be significantly different. This is the whole trick because the higher my commonality is based on modality, higher my economies of scale. Altroz is a premium hatch and H2X is a small-size SUV. What if I tell you that these two vehicles have a commonality of more than 70%? We will build economies of scale delivering commonality but in order to bring differentiation, design plays a crucial role. It is all about love at first sight. The ‘love effect’ will come if it looks different and if it’s aspirational and desirable. Our products are going to be feature packed. The features provided will make our products more aspirational for our customers and won’t be there for the sake of adding a gimmick. Features for the sake of safety, convenience, and comfort—this is our strategy.

The Tata Hornbill Micro SUV will be slotted below the Nexon in terms of price and positioning. The micro SUV will measure under 4 meters in length, and is likely to rival the Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Maruti S-Presso crossovers. It’s likely to be a petrol-only micro SUV considering the fact that Tata Motors is moving away from diesel engines on its entry level cars such as the Tiago and Tigor. If Tata does have to offer a diesel engine with the Hornbill, it won’t be too much of a problem as the automaker can dig into the parts bin of the Altroz, which is likely to be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The Hornbill is likely to have a starting price tag close to Rs. 5 lakhs.

Cops catch 6 for wrong side driving: Court JAILS them!

Wrong side driving is, unfortunately, a common phenomenon in India. This rampant habit is so abundant that one can spot people driving on the wrong side of the road even on national highways. While the Indian laws prohibit driving on the wrong side of the road, the people who usually are held by traffic police get away easily by paying small fines or bribes. However, in an example setting judgement, six persons on Wednesday were sentenced to two days in prison for riding their two-wheelers on the wrong side of the road and obstructing traffic. The offenders were caught last week by the Bowenpally police’s law and order wing. According to a report by NIE, the decision was taken by the 14th Special MM Court.

Wrong Side Driving Jail Featured 2
Representational Image

Interestingly, the violators were also fined but the amount to be paid was a mere Rs. 50 each. Speaking on the same, Hyderabad city commissioner Anjani Kumar told reporters that they were taking such traffic offences seriously as they had been the reason of several fatalities. He said:

It was the first time that violators of wrong side driving rule were being sentenced to imprisonment in city. The police were viewing such violations seriously now since there were several instances of wrong side driving violations leading to fatal accidents in the city. The Law and Order police too was assisting the Traffic police in cracking down on such violations,

The North Zone DCP added:

We have identified where people are most likely to take a wrong route to dodge traffic. We will penalise offenders as such acts could cause accidents.

The violators were found guilty of obstructing traffic under Section 21/76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act. These six people were caught in different areas during the month of July between 17th and the 22nd. The areas where the traffic violators were found were under the jurisdiction of the Bowenpally police. According to the report, over 1,05,346 individuals were issued challans for driving on the wrong side in the first six months of 2019. This is a 115 per cent increase in the number of such offenders when compared to last year’s data.

Police Fine Wrong Side Driving
Representational Image

To let you know, the traffic police generally uses Section 119 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act to penalise people for driving on the wrong side of the road. Under the section, the offenders have to pay a challan of Rs 1,100. The police also use Section 21/76 of the Hyderabad Police Act (charges of obstructing traffic) which allows for people to be jailed for obstructing traffic and the same is the case here.

Driving on the wrong side of the road not only puts you in the way of danger but also a lot of other people who are following traffic rules. Wrong side driving has been cities as one of the primary reasons for road casualties in India and hence the administration is taking steps to discourage individuals from doing it. Also, the Lok Sabha recently passed the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill that will change various statutes and clauses of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.

Apart from proposing stricter fines and penalties, the offenders can also be asked to perform community service as punishment or take a driver refresher training course for those whose licenses lapse. The fines of several offences like rash driving and driving without license ha been increased to Rs. 5,000 while a few others like drunk driving and not providing a way for emergency vehicles now attracts a fine of Rs. 10,000.

Hyundai & Kia Motors to develop electric cars for India: Ola to be major beneficiary

$

South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia Motors have tied up with Indian cab aggregating app Ola to promote electric cars meant specifically for India. Hyundai and Kia Motors have invested over Rs 2,000 crores in Ola. Hyundai has also earmarked Rs. 2,000 crores to develop new electric vehicles for the Indian market. These electric cars are likely to be shared with Kia Motors, which will sell it with restyling and a separate brand identity. Hyundai launched its first electric vehicle in India a couple of weeks ago in the form of the Kona electric SUV. The Kona has become a big success with over 120 bookings within 10 days of launch. The new electric car Hyundai is putting together for India is likely to be a compact SUV that’s similar sized to the Kona. The new electric car from Hyundai will come with high levels of localization, and is likely to be priced close to the Rs. 10 lakh mark, making it quite affordable for most

S.S. Kim, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd said,

Hyundai Motor is transforming into a mobility solutions provider from and automobile company. The group is developing an electric vehicle platform for mass market in India. We develop cars for all and not just for ride hailing cab operator Ola where Hyundai has invested $300 million.

In all likelihood, the new affordable electric car that Hyundai and Kia Motors are developing for the Indian market will also be inducted into Ola’s fleet. Ola has already begun running electric cars in its fleets in Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi. The Mahindra Verito Electric and the Tata Tigor Electric are the two electric vehicles that are plying under the Ola brand in these cities. In the coming years, many more electric vehicles are likely to be inducted into Ola’s fleets across India as the country moves towards vehicle electrification in a big way. The Indian government has called for tenders, inviting companies and entreprenurs to set up over 1,000 battery charging stations across the country. The government is also waiving off road tax and registration charges on electric cars, apart from charging a lower rate of GST on these vehicles. The government has also announced income tax benefits of up to Rs. 2.5 lakhs for those who take loans to buy electric cars.

While there is a slew of measures being taken to make electric cars more popular in India – a top 5 car market in the world – battery charging infractructure is yet to catch up. Also, car makers are yet to come up with affordable and practical electric cars that can actually do 300-400 Kms on a single charge. 2020 could be the year when we see a slew of electric cars with practical ranges getting launched in India.

Maruti Suzuki XL6 will be launched in the Indian market next month. The new car based on the regular Ertiga has been spotted testing a few times on the roads and quite a few details are out in the open now. The new car will be launched on 21st August in the Indian market.

Maruti Xl6

The new XL6 will be available only through the premium dealership network of the brand – Nexa. The Ertiga is currently sold through the Arena dealership network on the brand. Since it will be a premium product targeted at the niche buyers, only two top-end variants of the car will be available in the market – Alpha and Zeta. This information comes from ACI, who have also reported the engine details of the upcoming XL6.

Earlier, the pictures of the XL6 showed us that the car gets a different styling, which makes it look unique and very different from the Ertiga. The changes include a new grille, new bumpers with skid plate, new headlamps and a thick black plastic cladding all around. With these changes, the XL6 looks extremely different from the front. At the rear, it has only received a changed bumper with skid plates. The vehicle also gets factory-installed blacked-out alloy wheels that add a rough-n-tough look. To further add to the crossover look so of the vehicle, Maruti Suzuki will also offer factory-installed roof-rails with the XL6.

There are pictures of the interior of the Ertiga available too. The pictures reveal the new car will get an all-black theme unlike the beige interior of the Ertiga. The new cabin looks very sporty in beige colour and gets captain seats in the middle row. There is a lot of chrome accents that can be spotted on the dashboard and the gear lever too. Even the interior door handles are dipped in chrome. The dashboard also showed a hint of wooden inserts, just like the Dzire and the Ciaz.

The XL6 will get full LED headlamps, full LED DRL, full LED tail lamps, height-adjustable driver seat, and a rear wash-wiper. Both the variants of the XL6 will get the standard SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system. The top-end variant will extra features over the Zeta variant including reverse camera, leather seats and cruise control. Maruti Suzuki will also offer a dual-tone colour scheme with the top-end variant.

Since Maruti Suzuki will not sell any diesel-powered vehicles in the Indian market after the implementation of the BS6 norms, the XL6 will get powered only by the 1.5-litre BS6 compliant petrol engine. It will get the SHVS mild-hybrid system that increases the overall mileage. Maruti Suzuki will offer both 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission with the XL6.

Are you on the lookout for solid diesel cars in Delhi-NCR that are available without a high pocket pinch? Is your budget limited to 3 lakhs? If yes, then this is the one stop destination for all your requirements. The most specific demands often produce vague suggestions on leading car websites. Moreover, they will have listings of cars that have not been neatly sorted, and hence are not in a position to give you meaningful insights. How do you arrive at choosing the perfect car then? Used car websites are usually of little use, even with their multiple filters. The onus of sorting the information remains on you, and who wants to handle so much data? Fortunately, we offer you a relief from all such hassles through the Cartoq TRUE PRICE. By deploying the Cartoq TRUE PRICE, we help you identify the best deals. The Cartoq Data Science team has built a Machine Learning model that estimates the TRUE PRICE of a used car, after accounting for all sorts of variables – brand, model, age, mileage, and car type.

Cartoq True Price Featured

With all factors accounted for, the model predicts the TRUE PRICE, which then becomes the basis of comparison across cars. The best deals are those where listed price is lower than the TRUE PRICE. So, we scan through the car listings across major used car sites, compute their TRUE PRICE, and present the best deals for you. The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on July 20, 2019; so, by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available.

However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out. Five cars feature on this list from three manufacturers, which means:

• The intensity of competition is high, as with most car compilations in the capital.
• While the Toyota Etios takes the first position, the Ford Figo in at second may just be the car to watch out for owing to its greater economy.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Honda Amaze Used 28

Year: 2013 / Mileage: 56,114 / List Price: Rs. 330,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 534,000

Why buy: Another first owner petrol hatchback in this compilation, this car sports a sleek grey colour and offers a middle of the range set of attributes. It is, by no means, a stand out car and nor is it one worthy of dismissal. A neat option in the penultimate spot, it will prove to be a decent fit for most buyers not willing to consume their entire budget.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Hyundai Eon Era +

Hyundai Eon Used 24

Year: 2013 / Mileage: 27,000 / List Price: Rs. 212,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 332,890

Why buy: Another spick and span vehicle in this category, this second owner hatchback is a definite attention grabber with its bright red colour. Even though it is six years old, it has not taxed the odometer much. At a bargain price, this car has the promise to be a dark horse in rounding off this list.

Buy it here

In Summary

The Maruti Suzuki in second place will probably be the one most buyers’ eye along with the car in the first place. But all the options, right down to number five, should be in the hunt, making this one of the most exciting and closely matched collections for Chennai.

MG Hector rendered into a HARDCORE off-road SUV [Video]

The newly launched MG Hector has garnered quite a good response from Indian buyers. So much so that the British born-Chinese owned brand had to stop taking booking for its debut SUV. The Hector has been priced at Rs. 12.18 lakh for the base variant and Rs. 16.88 lakh for the top-end variant (both ex-showroom, Delhi). It rivals the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Hexa and the upcoming Kia Seltos among others in the segment. The HEctor may be referred to as an SUV due to its form factor but does not have any such credentials which are the traits of an SUV. But then, most of the so-called SUVs sold in India are the same. No Yogi Sejwal Design has gone ahead and given a makeover to the newly launched Hector and turned it into a wild off-road SUV.

The video above depicts how this render is made and if you are interested in graphic wizardry, you may want to take a look at it. The final outcome of this whole video is the rendered image you see below, which shows the Hector is a whole new light altogether. Now the Hector is quite a long vehicle, (longest in its segment in fact) and hence it would require extensive modifications all around to become a proper off-roader. Which is exactly what has been done in this render.

The front end has been given a completely new look which is a far cry from all chrome and blingy look of the regular Hector. All the chrome elements have been blacked out while the MG logo has been given a black and orange tint. The front bumper has been replaced by an off-road spec unit that is also fitted with a large metal bash plate and tow hooks. The grille has been blacked out with two silver cutouts on either end. Towards the top, this Hector has been equipped with tri-unit LED bar that provides illumination when necessary. A roof carrier and an extra LED bar are also present on the top.

Hector Mod Render

The SUV has been fitted with special off-road spec tires and rims and since this is a wild version of the regular Hector, let’s suppose it is equipped with 4×4 drivetrain now. On the side, we see wide footboards that allow easy ingress and egress on this tall SUV. Now since this Hector is meant to go out in the wild, it needs a powerful engine for that. MG offers 3 engine options (including the hybrid) with the Hector but for this scenario, the 2.0-litre diesel engine will suit the job best. This engine pumps out a maximum of 170 PS power and peak torque of 350 Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. All in all, this render looks quite good and we expect MG to at least offer a 4×4 SUV in India someday.
