The video stresses on the sharp lines that are there on the Taigun SUV. starting from the front, Taigun has a angular design which we have seen in other bigger SUVs from Volkswagen. chrome has been generously used on the front of the car. It can be seen on the front grille and even there is a chrome strip on the lower part of the bumper which also wraps around the big fog lamps. The skid plate gives it a proper SUV look and is definitely a good looking car from the front.

American SUV maker Jeep has just introduced the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant version of the Compass, just ahead of the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, which starts tomorrow. Jeep is skipping the Auto Expo. The Jeep Compass BS6 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, and prices have increased between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 1.1 lakh. Prices of the Jeep Compass BS6 start from Rs. 15.6 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

Jeep Compass Bs6

The SUV is available with 2 engine options: a 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged petrol with 160 Bhp-250 Nm, and two gearbox options: a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed twin clutch automatic. All petrol Compass variants are front wheel driven. The Compass Diesel is powered by the 2 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 170 Bhp-350 Nm outputs. The diesel engine is now available with 6 speed manual and 9 speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. Both front wheel drive and four wheel drive options are available with both gearboxes.

The Compass Diesel has managed to achieve BS6 compliance with the help of urea injection, and gets a urea tank that has to be periodically refilled to ensure clean tail pipe emissions. The BS6 versions of the petrol and diesel engine can run on both BS4 and BS6 fuels. This should put to rest the concerns that many buyers have been expressing about availability of BS6 fuel.

Meanwhile, Dr. Partha Datta – President and Managing Director of Fiat Chrysler Automotive India had this to say about the BS6 Compass,

We were the first OEM to roll out a BSVI powertrain in the premium compact SUV category in June 2019 and now, in eight months, our entire Jeep Compass range is BSVI compliant. There is a marginal price revision across the range owing to significant technological upgrades in both our petrol and diesel engines. However, we have loaded our trims with additional equipment, which offers abundant value to the customer.

The Compass rivals the likes of the higher variants of the Tata Harrier and MG Hector on one end of the price band while the SUV takes on the Hyundai Tucson on the other end of the price spectrum. Known for its tough build, good road manners, strong feature-set and powerful engines, the Jeep Compass is a premium compact SUV.

The range topping TrailHawk variant is quite capable, and gets specific changes for good performance off the road. The suspension is different – with more articulation while the all wheel drive system now gets low range, rock and sand modes. The TrailHawk trim also gets higher ground clearance and underbody protection as standard.

Maruti Suzuki Arena ಅವರಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನದಂದು ಪೋಸ್ಟ್ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಮಂಗಳವಾರ, ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 4, 2020

The biggest change in the 2020 Maruti Brezza will be in the engine department. The sub-4 meter compact SUV will go petrol-only, dumping the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine, which has not been made to meet the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms. The compact SUV will be powered by a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder K-Series naturally aspirated petrol engine, with 104 Bhp-138 Nm outputs.

The engine will be offered with two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed torque converter automatic. This engine will also get a mild hybrid system that is known by the name suzuki Hybrid Vehicle system (SHVS). The micro hybrid will get a separate battery, which is meant to take load off the alternator, thereby boosting fuel efficiency and cutting emissions.

2020 Maruti Brezza Teaser

Maruti is also expected to load the 2020 Brezza with a bunch of new features including an electric sunroof. These bits are likely to focus on long-standing customer demand, making the compact SUV a more rounded offering.  As for pricing, the 2020 Brezza BS6 could actually get cheaper than the diesel powered version, with prices starting from around Rs. 7 lakh. This will give the Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon – two of the most reasonably priced options in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment – big competition.

Stay tuned to CarToq for exact pricing of the new Brezza, along with variant and booking details. Maruti Suzuki has already begun producing the petrol powered Brezza, which shares its mechanicals with the Ciaz, XL6 and Ertiga. Bookings of the Brezza will be opened shortly, and deliveries will begin soon after. A diesel engine could be offered sometime next year if there is adequate demand for it. as Maruti is said to be working to make the in-house 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine BS6 compliant. This engine could find its way into a range of larger Maruti cars including the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, S-Cross and Ciaz.

Ignis Bs6 3

The images have been shared by  a user on Autocar India forum. According to the post, the pictures are of the Ignis that has been unveiled in Japanese market. Maruti Suzuki in recent time is concentrating more on making their models look more like an SUV. recently launched S-Presso hatchback that they call as the ‘mini SUV’ is a perfect example. Similar approach is taken for the Ignis as well. The front of the car has been totally redesigned with new SUV like grille with chrome inserts.

Ignis Bs6 1

Bumper also gets an update as it now gets a faux skid plate in silver finish and the fog lamp design is also new. Other changes on the outside include a new rear bumper with silver finish faux skid plates and reflectors integrated inside the bumper. No other visible changes are see on the outside. The facelift version is clearly inspired from Brezza and does look a bit more SUVish than it used to look before. The new elements will definitely add up to the road presence of the car.

Ignis Bs6 4

Updates are not just limited to the exteriors. The interiors of the upcoming Ignis will also see some changes like a touchscreen infotainment system that now supports Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay system. The seats and the dashboard is also likely to get a minor update and will look more updated.

Maruti Futuro-E electric SUV concept revealed at the Auto Expo 2020

$

0

The 2020 Auto Expo has officially begun. India’s biggest car maker Maruti Suzuki has just revealed the Futuro-E electric SUV coupe concept. The car is meant to showcase the direction that Maruti Suzuki’s first all-new electric car will take, both in terms of design. The production version of the Futuro-E will make its debut sometime next year.

It’s likely to rival the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the compact SUV segment, and could be available with both electric and petrol powered engines. Here are the first pictures of the Futuro-E concept, which is a design study.

Maruti Futuro E 3

Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, the MD of Maruti said,

CONCEPT FUTURO-E is a design study. It presents possibilities of a new global design language for the SUV segment. The segment has recently seen a tremendous surge in popularity. A coupé styled SUV is a first from Maruti Suzuki stable and we are confident customers will like it.

Talking about the Futuro-e concept, CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki said,

Concept Futuro-e resonates Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to creating exciting designs for the next generation. Offering a sneak-peek into the future of design, Concept Futuro-e represents Maruti Suzuki’s vision for the Indian automobile market. Pegged as an Indian car with global sensibilities, Concept Futuro-e takes into consideration the evolving desires of country’s aspirational youth. Concept Futuro-e tastefully draws inspiration from geo-organic structural forms occurring in nature. Its beauty is evident from its simplicity and magnificent detailing.

Maruti Webcast Screenshot 1
Maruti Suzuki Webcast screenshot

As the design of the Futuro-E concept indicates, it’s a rakish-looking coupe SUV that’s likely to be heavily watered down if it ever reaches production. The car looks quite sporty, with a swooping roof-line while chunky tyres and a bulging belt-line give it an imposing stance. The front and rear ends host LEDs, which run in a single line to form both daytime running lights (up front) and headlamps. The front bumper is also sharply raked, and overall, the minimal styling at the front keeps the concept quite classy, and futuristic.

Traditionally, Maruti Suzuki shows concept cars at the Auto Expo, and puts these cars into production in a year or two. We have seen this play out with the Vitara Brezza (shown as the XA-Alpha concept) and more recently the S-Presso (shown as the Future-S concept). The same is likely to happen with the Futuro-E, which could hit production sometime next year.

Maruti Futuro E 2

It remains to be seen whether the plunging coupe line will make it to production, or if Maruti will choose to take a more conservative design – a high mounted roof. The latter is likely as the Futuro-E will be aimed at family SUV buyers who will value practicality over outlandish design flourishes. Keep an eye out on this space for technical specifications of the Maruti Futuro-E concept, and other details as and when they surface.

Renault Triber AMT unveiled at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo

$

Renault India has just unveiled a new version of the Triber compact MPV, which now gets a 5 speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Called the Triber Easy-R, the new variant is meant to make the Triber effortless to drive as the AMT will handle gear shifting and clutch operation, leaving the driver only to accelerate, brake and steer. The official launch of the Triber AMT will happen in the second quarter of this year, and the compact MPV is expected to be about Rs. 50,000 pricier than the equivalent manual gearbox equipped trims. The AMT trim of the Triber uses the same engine as the manual version: the 1 liter-3 cylinder petrol motor with 72 PS-96 Nm outputs. Meanwhile, here are some pictures of the MPV straight from the show floor at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo.

Renault Triber Amt 1

Stylistically, the Renault Triber AMT is similar to the manual trims, with minor changes in the colour combination. The version of the MPV showcased at the Auto Expo gets a dual tone paint scheme – grey for the body and cream for the roof. Inside, the compact MPV gets blue highlights on the dashboard and blue stitching for the fabric seats.

The manual gear shifter is swapped for the AMT unit. Also, since the car loses a manual clutch pedal, there is now more space for the driver’s feet in the footwell. Other key features including the seating layout and creature comforts such as air conditioning, a touchscreen MediaNAV infotainment unit and power steering remain unchanged on the AMT trim.

Renault Triber Amt 2

The Triber compact MPV – based on the low cost CMF-A platform that it shares with the Kwid hatchback – has been a massive success for Renault, selling 28,000 units in less than 6 months of launch. The MPV’s crossover-like styling, spacious interiors, flexible seating, high ground clearance, comfortable ride quality and sharp pricing are some of its key selling points.

Renault Triber Amt 3

Renault is also planning a turbocharged version of the 1 liter petrol engine for the Triber. While details about this engine are scarce, it’s likely to put out at least 80-85 Bhp of peak power and about 120 Nm of peak torque. The turbo petrol engine is expected to be offered in the Triber later this year, and will make the compact MPV a lot more peppier to drive. The turbo petrol engine is likely to be offered only with the manual gearbox. The Triber is one of the least expensive 7 seat cars sold in India, with prices starting from Rs. 4.95 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

Maruti Swift Hybrid unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo: Meet the 32 Kmpl car!

$
0
0

Maruti Suzuki has just pulled the wraps off the Swift Hybrid hatchback, a car whose claimed mileage of 32 Kmpl will impress all. Showcased at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, the Swift Hybrid is meant to showcase Maruti Suzuki’s capabilities in the hybrid car space.

Maruti Swift Hybrid 1

This car was also shown at the Indonesia International Motor Show, which happened in August 2018. The Swift Hybrid is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine and a 10 KW electric motor. Both motors power the front wheels of the car. The petrol engine is a 1,242 cc-4 cylinder naturally aspirated unit with 90 Bhp-18 Nm outputs, while the electric motor makes 17 Bhp of peak power and 30 Nm of peak torque.

While the Swift Hybrid will run predominantly on petrol power, the great mileage that it has to offer mainly has to do with the fact that the electric motor assists the petrol engine, thereby taking load off it. The electric motor is also capable of powering the Swift Hybrid in stop-go traffic, and at low speeds. The car can also run solely on electric power for a few kilometers. The car is a parallel hybrid, and the hybrid powertrain is capable of the following functions:  idle stop- start, torque assist, regenerative braking and EV running as a combination.

Maruti Swift Hybrid 3

Since Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine, the need for a more fuel efficient alternative arises. That alternative is the petrol-hybrid powertrain, which will offer the smoothness and low emissions of a petrol engine while also delivering the high mileage that diesel engines are known for.

Maruti Swift Hybrid 4

This combination could be introduced in the Swift in the coming months, and if the market warms up to it, expect a slew of smaller Maruti Suzuki cars to take the petrol-hybrid route. The Swift Hybrid is also a very convenient car to drive, with a 5 speed automated manual transmission being offered as standard. It weighs 960 kilograms thanks to its lightweight HEARTECT platform.

Maruti Swift Hybrid 2

Other dimensions of the Swift Hybrid are similar to those of the regular petrol and diesel versions of the car, and the only distinguishing feature of the former is the ‘hybrid’ badge pasted on the hatch lid. While the car looks production ready, Maruti Suzuki is yet to give us a clear indication about when the Swift Hybrid will be put into production for the Indian market. Given the fact that the Swift Diesel is no longer available, the hybrid version of the hatchback may be just around the corner. Extensive localization will be in order to keep the price down to acceptable levels for the mass market.

Renault Kwid Electric (K-ZE) unveiled at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo

French car maker Renault has just unveiled its first electric car in the Indian market – the Kwid Electric. Called the K-ZE, the Kwid Electric has a range of 271 kilometers per charge, and is already available in the Chinese car market, where it’s priced at 61,800 Chinese Yuan, or about Rs. 6.22 lakhs. An automatic gearbox comes standard, and the electric car can hit a top speed of 105 Kph.

Renault Kwid Electric 1

The Kwid Electric is meant mainly for city use, and is expected to be commercially launched in India sometime in 2021-22. When launched, it’ll be Renault’s most affordable electric car for the Indian market. Expect to pay about Rs. 6-8 lakhs for the Kwid Electric as the cost of batteries remain quite high. The automaker is aggressively working on localizing the electric powertrain of the Kwid EV to make it more affordable for the masses. Renault will make its electric car foray in India not with the Kwid Electric but with the ZOE.

The Renault ZOE will be brought into the country as a completely built unit (CBU) to test waters. Predictably, it’ll be quite pricey, and is expected to command over Rs. 15 lakhs at launch. It’ll be a brand builder for Renault in the electric vehicle space, and is not meant to bring in the big numbers. Like the Kwid Electric, the ZOE is also being showcased at the Auto Expo, as a means to gauge show goer feedback, and showcase the French automaker’s capabilities in the electric mobility segment. The ZOE is already on sale in Europe.

Renault Kwid Electric 2

That duty will be saved for the Kwid Electric, which is meant to be an affordable form of electric mobility for the masses. The introduction of the electric variant will round off the Kwid range in the Indian market. Variants of the power train introduced in the Kwid Electric will also be used on other low cost electric cars from the French automaker.

Apart from Renault, a slew of car makers in India are working on electric cars. Chief among these are Tata Motors and Mahindra, who already have multiple electric vehicles on offer, and will soon be launching more. Maruti Suzuki is also expected to join the electric mobility space shortly, joining Hyundai, which has already launched the Kona electric SUV. Other automakers betting big on electric power include MG Motor, which is expected to have multiple offerings in this segment, and Nissan, scheduled to launch the LEAF shortly.

Toyota Fortuner is one the most popular full size SUV in the country at the moment. Over the years it has created a fan base for itself because of its rugged looks, reliability and the cost of maintenance. It competes with cars like Ford Endeavor, Mahindra Alturas G4, Isuzu MU-X in the segment. Like other manufacturers in the country, Toyota is also working on updating their engines to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. As per an article posted on Team-Bhp, price for the upcoming BS6 version of the Toyota Fortuner has been leaked.

Fortuner Bs6 Price Leaked 1

According to the leaked price list, BS6 version of the Toyota Fortuner will be priced at Rs 28.18 lakh ex-showroom for the petrol engine and Rs 30.19 lakh for the diesel one. Earlier there were rumours that Toyota will discontinue the 2.8 litre turbocharged diesel engine and bring in a 2.4 litre unit to keep the costs down. The leaked price list also takes off the cover on that rumour that Fortuner will get a smaller diesel engine.

It can be very clearly seen in the document that the diesel version of the Toyota BS6 version continues to get the 2.8 litre turbocharged engine. The diesel version is mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox and is available with both 4-wheel drive and 2 wheel drive system. The Petrol variant however gets a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox and is available in 2-wheel drive configurations.

It was earlier assumed that Fortuner BS6 will also get the same treatment that BS6 Innova Crysta got. Innova Crysta BS6 now gets a 2.4L turbocharged diesel engine instead of the 2.8L turbocharged BS4 one. The petrol variant continues to get the 2.7L inline 4 cylinder engine. Toyota is also working on a facelift for the Fortuner SUV. It was recently spotted testing under heavy camouflage in Thailand.

In terms of changes, facelifted Fortuner we can expect to see some minor changes like a restyled bumper, a new design for the headlamps, fog lamps and so on. It is not known when they will be launching the facelift of the popular SUV. Coming back to the BS6 Fortuner, prices for the petrol version start from 28.18 lakh and go up till Rs 29.92 lakh ex-showroom. The 2.8 litre BS6 diesel version is priced at Rs 30.19 and goes till Rs 34.10 lakh ex-showroom. (price leaked is from a dealer in Pimpri, Pune). As the price lists have already reached at the dealers, it is safe to assume that Toyota will be launching the BS6 Fortuner soon.

Tata Hornbill (HBX Concept) micro SUV unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020

Tata Motors has just revealed the HBX concept (Hornbill) micro SUV at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo. The Tata HBX concept’s production version is aimed at the Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, which will get a facelift on the 7th of February. A butch design, high ground clearance and a very affordable price tag will be three key highlights of the Tata HBX concept, which will be put into production in the second half of 2020.

Tata Hbx Hornbill 3

The Tata HBX concept shares its platform with the Altroz, which means that the production version of this micro SUV will use the ALFA-ARC platform. The HBX concept’s production version will be Tata Motors’ least priced SUV (if it can be called that), and is meant for those who want an attractive looking, high ground clearance car at a very affordable price tag.

The Tata HBX concept shown at the Auto Expo features butch lines, and is shod with off-road tyres that further add to the butch appeal of this car. The front end styling makes the HBX look like a scaled down Harrier, and this will be one of the major appeal for buyers. Faux cladding at the front and rear, cladding on the sides, a roof rack and a rising windowline are the other design highlights of the car. At the rear though, the HBX concept seems to derive inspiration from the Tata Nexon, which recently got a facelift. All in all, the HBX seems to be the right mix of curves and butch lines. If Tata Motors retains much of these styling elements on the production version, a funky little micro SUV is what India will get.

Tata Hbx Hornbill 1

Tata Motors is unlikely to add a diesel engine into the equation, and the sub-4 meter micro SUV could be a petrol-only offering, borrowing the 1.2 liter-3 cylinder Revotron petrol engine from the Altroz. This motor makes 84 Bhp-115 Nm, and is offered with two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed AMT. The same combination is likely to be offered on the production version of the HBX.

An all-electric variant could also be a part of the product mix in future given the fact that Tata Motors is betting really big on electric mobility. A price tag of under Rs. 5 lakh is expected for the production version of the Tata HBX micro SUV, which is also likely to get a new name. Will Tata choose the Hornbill? We’ll know this in a few months, in the run up to launch.

Tata Harrier BS6 with AT, sunroof to be available from Feb 20: Revealed At Auto Expo

Tata Motors has launched the BS6 compliant version of Harrier at the Auto Expo 2020. The updated Harrier will be available starting February 20, 2020.

Pricing has yet not been announced but we expect the ex-showroom prices to up by Rs. 40,000-60,000 for non-automatic variants. The corresponding automatic variamts are likely to costs Rs. 1.2 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh more.

That means the entry level XE variant would now be close Rs 14 lakh while the top-end XZA+ with automatic could cross Rs. 20 lakh.
But its not only the price that will be going up.

Tata Harrier At Interior 1

But Tata has also upgraded its stylish SUV. So now you get significantly more power: 170 Bhp and 350 Nm instead of the earlier 140 Bhp-350 Nm. The other big change is that you can now get the Harrier with a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Automatic gearbox will be available in the XMA, XZA and XZA+ variants.

On the inside, the driver gets an electrically adjustable seat and there is now auto dimming IRVMs. Plus, there is now a panoramic sunroof as well which will be available in the two top-end trims, the XZ+ and XZA+.

2020 Tata Harrier 1

And, yes, you can now get Harrier in very bright and bold Red colour which adds to an already extensive colour pallet.

Harrier was always a pretty good SUV to drive, particularly at high speeds. The more powerful new engine therefore would only add to fun-to-drive factor. The steering was a shade heavy at parking speeds but that gave it superb balance at high speeds. It remains to be seen if the set up has been tweaked.

The radically designed Harrier might not be to everyone’s liking but there is no denying that it’s a head turner. The cabin too is well designed with premium materials. The seats are large and comfy with plenty of room for the three at back. Harrier’s boot too is large.

The BS6 compliant engine, at least in Jeep Trailhawk, is a lot more refined and quite than non BS IV engine. It will be interesting to see if the same holds true in case of Tata Harrier.
The Harrier competes with the likes the MG Hector, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500, and is a five seat SUV. Now watch this space for updates on the new, new Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector’s BS6 compliant diesel version.

Kia Motors unveils Sonet compact SUV concept – Brezza, Venue rival – at Auto Expo 2020

Kia Motors has just unveiled the Sonet compact SUV concept, a sub-4 meter offering aimed at the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and other similar offerings in this highly competitive segment. The official market launch of the Kia Sonet will happen in the second half of this year, and the South Korean automaker has used the Hyundai Venue’s platform for its latest compact SUV, which will sit below the Seltos in terms of pricing.

The mini SUV will be built at Kia Motors’ new  factory in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, here are some pictures of the Sonet, straight from the show floor at the Auto Expo.

Kia Sonet Concept

As the images suggest, the Kia Sonet looks totally different from the Seltos, and for that matter the Hyundai Venue – the SUV on which it’s based.  The Sonet has just the right mix of the curves and butch lines, but is more of a crossover in terms of styling than outright SUV. Most buyers won’t mind this as the high ground clearance, good street presence and sharp looks will more than make up for the crossover stance.

The most prominent design highlight of this compact SUV is the Tiger Nose grille, a distinctive design feature found on all Kia cars.

Kia Sonet Concept Rear

The production version of the Sonet is likely to be very similar to the concept version that’s shown at the Auto Expo. The sub-4 meter offering will feature three engine options: a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol with 82 Bhp-114 Nm, a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol with 118 Bhp-172 Nm, and a 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel with 89 Bhp-220 Nm. All three engines will get manual gearboxes as standard with the turbocharged petrol engine also getting a 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox option. The mini SUV will be front wheel driven, and will have a monocoque body.

Expect the feature-set of the Sonet to be similar to that offered on the Hyundai Venue, and the Kia compact SUV could offer a few additional bits. In terms of pricing, the Kia Sonet is likely to be pegged close to the Rs. 7 lakh mark for the base petrol trim, going up to about Rs. 10-11 lakhs for the top-end diesel and turbo petrol automatic trims. The Sonet is meant to bring Kia Motors the next wave of growth after the Seltos. The automaker will be aiming at selling about 10,000 units of this compact SUV each month. The segment leaders – Brezza and Venue – had better brace for some very serious competition.

Tata Gravitas makes an appearance at Auto Expo 2020 but launch will have to wait

$

Tata Motors unveiled its seven-seater SUV Gravitas at the Auto Expo 2020 today. First shown at the Geneva Motor Show as Buzzard, the Gravitas is based on Tata’s other SUV Harrier.

While we were expecting the formal launch, Tata only ‘showcased’ its 7-seater SUV. That would suggest that Gravitas launch is still some distance away—perhaps towards the end of the year or even early next year.

Tata might be gauging the response to updated Harrier as well as waiting to see how the market settles down after BS6 deadline.

The front end of the Gravitas is more or less similar to Harrier but the addition of roof rails make it look taller. The rear-third is where the Gravitas departs from the Harrier look in significant ways: its boxy and upright, perhaps to create more head room for the third-row passengers. The rear spoiler is more prominent, the boot lid is new and now has a larger windshield and tail lights get a slightly different styling.

Though based on the same Omega platform, the Gravitas is bigger too. With 4,661mm in length, 1,894mm in width and 1,786mm in height, it is 63mm longer and 80mm taller than the Harrier. The wheelbase though, at 2,741mm, is same as that of the Harrier.

Buzzard 12

That would mean the interiors too will largely be the same with one big difference: there will be a third-row of seats. The one on show at Auto Expo 2020 has captain seats in the middle row but we are sure Tata will also offer Gravitas with a three-seat bench for the middle row. Unlike Harrier, Gravitas gets a large panoramic sunroof right from the beginning. The wheels too are larger 18-inchers.

The Gravitas is powered by the BS6-compliant 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine, producing around 170hp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission options for the Gravitas will include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque-convertor automatic gearbox.

With the five-seat Harrier priced between Rs 13-16.86 lakh (ex-showroom), one can expect the Tata Gravitas’ price to be around Rs 1 lakh more than the Harrier’s when it launches in February 2020.

In true sense, it will be the rival to the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming 7-seater version of the Hector. The all-new Tata Gravitas will go on sale in the mid-2020 and the expected price of the vehicle is around Rs 13.9 lakhs. Almost all the variants of the Gravitas will carry a Rs 1.5-2 lakhs more expensive price tag than the subsequent Tata Harrier variant.

On the features front, the Tata Gravitas will get a similar list to the Harrier. It will get a similar floating-type infotainment system, a digital-analogue speedometer and high-end speaker system from Harman. Other additional features may include a sunroof too. However, Tata may continue to offer that as an optional accessory like the Tata Harrier.

Tata Motors pulled off a surprise at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, when they brought back the Sierra SUV. However, the Tata Sierra that has made it to the Auto Expo 2020 is a concept, and there’s no indication yet, of a production future. Tata Motors is likely to have brought back this iconic nameplate in a concept car to see the reactions of show goers, and perhaps take a call later on whether to productionize the SUV. For now, the Tata Sierra concept SUV looks more like a tribute to the original Sierra, which heralded Tata Motors’ foray into the compact SUV market in the 90s. here are some pictures of the Sierra concept straight from the Tata Motors pavilion at the Auto Expo 2020.

Tata Sierra Concept 3

The Tata Sierra concept is clearly a homage to the original version, and the large glass area that makes up half of the SUV’s rear is an indication of this. From some angles, the Tata Sierra concept also seems inspired by the Land Rover Discovery and the Defender models. Don’t be surprised if Tata Motors actually used one of Land Rover’s platforms to put together a production version of the Sierra sometime in future.

The traditional two door layout of the Sierra has been carried over to the concept, which gets Tata Motors’ new design language up front, inspired by the likes of the Harrier and Gravitas SUV models. Overall, the design is a blend of curves and muscular styling elements, which gives the Sierra concept an outdoorsy look and feel, much like what the original Sierra’s design. Most old timers who’ve grown up with the original Sierra around would appreciate it.

Tata Sierra Concept 2

Tata Motors does not have a single 4X4 SUV in its line-up currently, and those looking for a sturdy, go anywhere vehicle are having to look elsewhere. Something like the Sierra concept could fill this void if put into production, and establish Tata Motors in the lifestyle SUV space – a small but growing segment that will soon see the re-introduction of the Mahindra Thar on an all-new platform, with many new features and creature comforts.

Tata Sierra Concept 1

It’s a lifestyle market such as this that the Sierra can focus on if re-introduced. For now, no details about the Sierra’s platform or mechanicals have been revealed. Do keep an eye out on this space as we try and bring you additional information about the Tata Sierra concept, and its chances of making it to the production floor.

Mahindra eKUV100 electric micro SUV launched & eXUV300 unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo

$

Mahindra Electric has just launched the eKUV100 electric micro SUV, which at Rs. 8.25 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi (after FAME II subsidy) is the least priced electric vehicle that money can buy in India. The Mahindra eKUV100 was launched at the ongoing 2020 Auto Expo, and the micro SUV was unveiled alongside the eXUV300, an electric compact SUV that will be launched in the second half of this year as a Tata Nexon EV challenger.

Mahindra Ekuv100 1

The eKUV100 currently does not have any competition at its price point. The micro electric SUV promises a battery range of 150 kilometers, which makes a decent bet for everyday driving within city limits. 80 % of the electric vehicle’s batteries can be charged in just 55 minutes. The eKUV100 uses an electric motor rated at 40 KW of peak power and 120 Nm of peak torque. The battery pack is liquid cooled. An automatic gearbox drives the front wheels.

The KUV100 micro SUV is also available with a 1.2 liter-3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine option. The KUV100’s triple cylinder diesel engine was recently discontinued as Mahindra did not make it meet Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms.

Mahindra Ekuv100 2

The KUV100 is available with 5 speed manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options. One of the smallest  and least priced SUVs offered by Mahindra, the KUV100 has been a tepid seller right from launch. The arrival of the electric variant could move sales figures northwards.

Mahindra Exuv300

A pioneer in electric mobility in the Indian market, Mahindra is working on a slew of electric vehicles that will be launched in the coming months and years. The next big launch in the electric vehicle space is the eXUV300, which gets styling that’s different from the petrol and diesel powered versions. The eXUV300 is expected to be much more pricier than the petrol and diesel powered variants, and we expect it to sit in the 12-14 lakh price bracket when launched. The Tata Nexon, the XUV300’s prime competitor, has already fired the first shot by offering buyers an affordably priced, relatively high-range electric variant.

In response, Mahindra is likely to offer a similar range/charge, and similar performance. Both Tata Motors and Mahindra are betting big on electric vehicles for the Indian market, which has been witnessing a steady but growing number of electric cars, mainly in the Rs. 10-25 lakh bracket. As more and more mass market car makers get into the electric vehicle sector, prices are likely to come down to more affordable levels.

The South Korean carmaker Kia today launched its luxury MPV Carnival at the Auto Expo 2020. The prices start Rs. 24.95 lakh for the 6-seater Premium version while the top end Limousine varaiant [also a seven seater] is priced at Rs. 33. 95 lakh. The mid-level Prestige version costs Rs. 28.95 lakh and Rs. 29.95 lakh for the 7 and 9 seater versions, respectively.

Carnival 0

Kia claims it has received 3,500 bookings for carnival already.

Kia Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre, BS6-compliant diesel engine with power output of 200 bhp and 440Nm of torque between 1,500-2,750rpm. The 2.2 diesel is mated to an 8-speed ‘Sportsmatic’ automatic gearbox.

Kia Carnival, as you might know by now, is a no ordinary MPV. We mean its huge—about two whole feet longer than the current leader of the pack, Toyota Innova. Its nearest rival, in size, would Toyota Vellfire, which will cost close to Rs. 1 crore.

That ginormous size allows Kia to offer Carnival with multiple seat configurations—as a seven-, eight- and nine-seater. You will get to choose between 4 to 6 captain seats and hold your breath, there will even be a four-row configuration.

Kia Carnival Featured

And cutting across these variants will be three trim levels: Premium, Prestige and Limousine. Yes sir, with Carnival, India gets its first taste of limousine. All trims would be more than adequately loaded.

The entry level Premium trim (you can have it with 7 or 8 seats) will come with a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, an audio system with four speakers and two tweeters, steering-mounted audio controls, a reverse camera, cruise control, a smart key with push-button start, tilt- and telescopic-adjust for the steering wheel, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, all four disc brakes and 18-inch crystal-cut alloy wheels, among other things.

The next level Prestige trim will add LED projector headlights, the signature ‘Ice Cube’ LED fog lights, LED tail-lights, powered tailgate, dual-panel electric sunroof, electric-folding wing mirrors, ‘pop-up sinking seats’ and chrome accents for the exterior. Safety feature will be upped with side and curtain airbags, front parking sensors, Electronic Stability Control, rollover mitigation and Cornering Brake Control. The Kia Carnival Prestige will shun the 8-seat option and will instead be available as a seven or nine seater.

Kia Carnival Limousine, will only be available as a seven-seater but its seven seats will be wrapped in nappa leather. The steering too will be leather wrapped, there will be wood garnish. The wheels too would have different design and you will get a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Hyundai Tucson SUV unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020

$

Hyundai India kickstarted its Auto Expo 2020 with the unveiling of the facelifted Tucson, a flagship SUV from the South Korean automaker for the Indian market. The Hyundai Tucson Facelift is aimed at the Jeep Compass. The five seat SUV is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, both of which are now Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant. Prices of the new Hyundai Tucson SUV will be announced at the official launch, which will follow shortly. The SUV continues to be assembled at Hyundai India’s Sriperumbudur factory, off Chennai, through the completely knocked down (CKD) route.

Hyundai Tucson Facelift

The facelifted Tucson gets the new cascading grille design, which is becoming a trademark design element across all Hyundai cars. The front bumper is reprofiled while there’s additional chrome to bling up things. The headlamps and tail lamps now look sharper while the rear bumper and alloy wheel design have also seen revisions. The SUV’s interiors get an all-new 8.0-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Hyundai has also added on-board internet access and the BlueLink app, which brings many ‘connected car’ features to the facelifted Tucson.

Mechanically, the 2020 Hyundai Tucson remains more or less unchanged, save for the engines getting cleaner in order to meet Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms. There are two engines on offer: a 2 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol with 154 Bhp-192 Nm outputs, and a 2 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel with 184 Bhp-400 Nm outputs. Both engines get 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options. The monocoque bodied SUV’s petrol variants are front wheel driven while the diesel is offered with both front wheel drive and all wheel drive layouts.

The all wheel drive layout gives the Tucson some degree of off-road ability, and the SUV can handle mild off-road trails. However, the vehicle is designed mainly for road use, both in the city and on the highways. The Tucson never really took off in the Indian market despite being a very competent 5 seat SUV with a sturdy build, vast feature-set, well appointed interiors and powerful engines. Through the facelift, Hyundai will be hoping to sell more Tucsons in the hotly competitive Indian market. The Tuscon is larger than its chief competitor – the Jeep Compass, and also offers a much wider sales and service network. If Hyundai can manage to price the 2020 Tucson Facelift close to the Jeep Compass, it’s likely to see a lot more Tucsons flying out of showrooms.

MG Motor has just revealed a brand new MPV for the Indian market at the 2020 Auto Expo. Called the 360M, the new MPV is larger than the Maruti Ertiga but smaller than the Toyota Innova Crysta. It’s a 6 seater, and gets a single petrol engine: a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated unit with 103 Bhp of peak power and 135 Nm of peak torque.

Mg 360m Mpv 1

These numbers put it in direct competition with the likes of the Maruti Ertiga and XL6 MPVs, which also feature a 1.5 liter petrol engine with similar outputs. The gearbox offered on the new MG 360M MPV is a CVT automatic unit, and there’s no manual gearbox offered even as an option. Going by these specifications, it’s clear that the front wheel driven, monocoque MG MPV is aimed mainly at family car buyers seeking a spacious and relatively luxurious people mover. When officially launched, this MPV’s prices are expected to begin from well under Rs. 10 lakh.

The MG 360M MPV showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 featured a slew of luxury features. From an electric sunroof to powered driver’s seat, captain seats on the second row and a 360 degree parking camera, the 360M looks poised to take the fight to the current best sellers – the Maruti Ertiga and the XL6. The MPV segment is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Indian car market. The likes of the Renault Triber, Maruti Ertihga + XL6 and the Toyota Innova Crysta dominate different sub-segments of India’s MPV market.

Mg 360m Mpv 3

MG Motor has already made a mark in India with the Hector SUV, which is a best seller in its segment. The Hector has made the MG Motor brand a household name, and the Chinese owned British brand has massive expansion plans in the Indian market. From a slew of electric cars including the eZS and the upcoming Maxus D90 luxury SUV, MG Motor has lined up many new cars for the Indian market.

Mg 360m Mpv 2

The blitz has already begun through the 2020 Indian Auto Expo. Expect a packed year from MG Motor as it forays into multiple segments of the Indian car market. The 360M MPV could be yet another hot seller for the brand in the years to come. Local assembly at MG Motor’s Halol factory in Gujarat, with a high amount of localization is almost a given. More details about this MPV will surface shortly. Watch this space as we round up all there is to know about MG Motor’s latest people mover.

Maruti S-Presso CNG unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo

$
0
0

Maruti Suzuki has showcased the CNG-Petrol dual fuel version of the S-Presso micro SUV at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo. The CNG (compressed natural gas) kit is factory fitted, and gets a standard factory warranty. The CNG variants of the S-Presso will soon be launched. The new trims of the S-Presso are likely to be about Rs. 30,000 pricier than equivalent petrol variants.

Maruti S Presso Cng 1

The Maruti S-Presso CNG is aimed at specific parts of India such as the Delhi NCR and Mumbai-Pune regions where CNG dispensing infrastructure is well developed. The CNG trims are aimed at those seeking lower running costs as CNG continues to be a lot cheaper than both petrol and diesel. The CNG powered S-Presso will also have lower tail pipe emissions, which makes it more environmentally friendly than cars running on petrol and diesel.

The S-Presso’s 1 liter-3 cylinder engine that makes 67 Bhp-91 Nm on petrol will make 58 Bhp-78 Nm while running on CNG. This power loss is normal for CNG, and since the S-Presso is so light, the power dip won’t matter much for everyday driving. The CNG powered variants of the S-Presso are likely to be launched in multiple variants.

Maruti S Presso Cng 2

While the petrol powered S-Presso gets 5 speed manual and AMT options, it remains to be seen whether Maruti offers the CNG option on both the automatic and manual variants of the car. It’s likely that only manual trims of the S-Presso will get the CNG option. Twin airbags and ABS will be offered even on the CNG trims though.

The S-Presso is one of Maruti’s latest launches in the Indian market, and the car is an instant hit, outselling the Renault Kwid right from launch. High ground clearance, a high seating position and quirky-ly butch looks are the three biggest selling points of this car, which retains other positive attributes of a Maruti car such as great reliability, low maintenance and great service back up. Maruti Suzuki offers a slew of personalization options for the S-Presso. These dealer-level accessories will not void the stock factory warranty, unlike aftermarket accessories. The S-Presso CNG showcased at the Auto Expo is also an accessorized version.

The S-Presso is Maruti’s 6th CNG powered car as the automaker moves away from diesel engines. In the coming years, Maruti’s entire fleet of cars are likely to get CNG-Petrol dual fuel cars. CNG dispensing outlets are expected to become more widespread in the coming years across India, and Maruti wants to take advantage of this.
