KTM Duke 390 is one of the fastest bike one can currently buy in India under Rs 3 lakh. It is actually a pocket rocket which can do triple digit speeds without breaking a sweat all day long. It is actually a great value for money motorcycle. Another motorcycle that is similarly priced and is a great value for money is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. we have seen drag races between these two bikes in the past, but this time around we have a video where both KTM Duke 390 and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 can be seen doing a braking test to know which one has better brakes.
The video has been uploaded by Ayush Verma on his youtube channel. The video starts by introducing the bike and how much they weigh. The KTM Duke 390 has a kerb weight of 163 Kgs and the Interceptor 650 is heavier and has a kerb weight of 202 kgs. The youtuber also talks about the weight of the rider as it plays a crucial role. The rider who is riding the Interceptor 650 weighs around 93 kgs and the Duke 390 rider is around 61 kgs. The test has been conducted in 3 rounds and both bikes are equipped with ABS for better braking experience.
First round, Both Duke 390 and Interceptor 650 take off from the start position and maintain the same speed and remain parallel. Once they are next to each other, they started applying breaks. The exact speed at which the brakes were applied is not known. The result shows that the Interceptor 650 had stopped first and the KTM Duke 390 was slightly ahead of it. The Interceptor had won the first round as it covered less distance. Second round was a tie as both KTM and interceptor had covered more or less the same distance before coming to a stop. In third round however, riders switched the bikes and the result remained the same. The Interceptor had again won the race.
Both Interceptor 650 and Duke 390 have great brakes and are equipped with dual-channel ABS. The slight difference that we saw in the video here could have been purely because of the weight of the motorcycle and the rider. KTM Duke 390 is powered by a 373cc, liquid cooled four stroke single cylinder petrol engine with 44 Bhp of peak power and 37 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed manual gearbox with slipper clutch is standard. Royal Enfield Interceptor is powered by an air-oil cooled 647cc twin cylinder engine puts out 47 Bhp and 52 Nm of torque. It also gets 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch as standard.
