Tata Motors has launched its first-ever premium hatchback in the Indian market – the Altroz. The all-new car will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Volkswagen Polo. Tata Altroz is priced at Rs 5.29 lakhs, which makes it cheaper than the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. For reference, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is priced Rs 5.58 lakhs and Hyundai Elite i20 is priced at Rs 5.59 lakhs, ex-showroom.
The all-new Tata Altroz is available in five variants. Here is a detailed price of the variants. (All prices in lakhs and in ex-showroom.)
Petrol: XE – Rs. 5.59, XM – Rs. 6.15, XT – Rs. 6.84, XZ – Rs 7.44, XZ(O) – Rs 7.69.
Diesel: Petrol: XE – Rs. 6.99, XM – Rs. 7.75, XT – Rs. 8.44, XZ – Rs 9.04, XZ(O) – Rs 9.29.
The Tata Altroz is the first car to be based on the ALFA platform and first and only hatchback in India to get a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating. The Tata Altroz introduces a fresh design in the segment with its IMPACT 2.0 design that sure is a head-turner. The top-end, fully-loaded version of the Altroz offers a range of features including 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, projector headlamps, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, blacked-out roof, dual airbags, analogue-digital instrument cluster and more. The Altroz looks extremely sharp and the rear of the car also gets sharp edges and integrated split tail lamps. Overall, the Altroz looks extremely good and offers a complete package to the car buyers.
Being the safest hatchback in India, the Tata Altroz offers ABS+EBD with dual airbags as standard across the variants. It also gets features like rear parking sensors with camera, driver and co-driver seatbelt warning as well as high-speed alerts.
Tata offers both petrol and diesel engine options with the Altroz. The petrol variants of the Altroz will come powered by the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine that generates a maximum power of 85 PS and peak torque of 114 Nm. The diesel variants of the Altroz get the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that powers the Tata Nexon. It generates a maximum power of 90 PS and peak torque of 200 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel variants of the Altroz get the 5-speed manual transmission. Tata will not offer an automatic transmission with the Altroz at the time of the launch. Instead, it will be available at a later stage. Tata is currently developing automatic transmission.
The deliveries of the all-new Altroz will start today. The manufacturer also offers a customised version of the Altroz where customers can use the online interface to choose what they like and get it delivered at the dealership. Tata will launch an electric version and high-performance JTP version of the Altroz in the coming years.
