South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai recently launched the next-generation i20 in the market. I20 is a premium hatchback and competes with cars like Maruti Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz in the segment. Last generation i20 Elite was a popular car in the segment and it seems like people are loving the new-gen i20 as well. Hyundai had launched the all-new i20 in the market last month and it has already received over 25,000 bookings by now. Prices for this premium hatchback start at Rs 6.79 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 11.17 lakh, ex-showroom.
The all-new Hyundai i20 is a new vehicle and is based on a new platform. It gets a wide front grille with 3D design elements on it. The sleek headlights actually feel like an extension of the grille and provide a sporty character to the hatchback. As mentioned above, the all-new i20 uses a new platform and is now wider and has a longer wheelbase than the older version.

The i20 gets a very unique looking rear design. There are ‘Z’ shaped split LED tail lamps with chrome strip running between the lamps. The gloss black treatment around the rear window gives you an impression that it has a huge glass area. On the inside, Hyundai i20 offers a long list of features in which some of them are segment first.
The Hyundai i20 gets segment first features like a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It gets a premium speaker system from Bose, air purifier and it is the only car in the segment to offer BlueLink connected car services. Apart from these features, i20 offers automatic climate control, wireless car charging, electric sunroof, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, ambient lighting and so on.
Hyundai offers the all-new i20 in four trims – Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). The hatchback is available with three different engine and transmission options. There are two petrol and one diesel engine on offer. There is a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that 83 Ps and 88 Ps with manual and CVT gearbox respectively.
The diesel engine on offer is a 1.5 litre unit which generates 100 Ps and is available with a manual gearbox only. It has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 25.2 kmpl and is one of the most fuel efficient car in this segment. Third engine option is the 1.0 litre, three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120 Ps and 172 Nm of torque. It is the most powerful engine among the three and is available with a 7-speed DCT and iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) options.
Hyundai has a number of products on offer in the Indian market and is currently the second largest car manufacturer in India. Hyundai had launched several cars in 2020 including a couple of new vehicles. Earlier this year, Hyundai had launched the all-new Creta in the market and it also received an overwhelming response from customers.
