The first spyshot of the Volkswagen T-Cross has been leaked on the internet. The compact SUV is a rival to the Hyundai Creta. Volkswagen is considering the T-Cross for the Indian market but the vehicle launched here will be very different from the international version. The international version is based on the MQB A0 platform, which is shares with the all-new Polo hatchback.
The spyshot shows that the SUV will have typical Volkswagen looks with a clean design. It will be quite wide and the design slowly rises from the front to the rear. It may look like a smaller version of the Tiguan with a smaller length of around 4.2 meters. It will be a five seater and the spyshot also confirms that. Volkswagen has already dropped a big hint about this SUV’s design through the T-Breeze concept.
For India, Volkswagen has ruled out the MQB A0 platform since it will be too expensive. The Indian market will get a low cost version of this platform, called the Eco. The Eco platform is being developed by Skoda India. The first product to be based on this platform will be a compact SUV, and it will be launched in 2020. It is expected to be the Indianized version of the T-Cross.
The Indianized version is expected to do away with many Europe specific features so that it is not very costly. It may be priced between Rs. 9-13 lakhs as it has to challenge the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta here. We expect it to have all the features that are currently offered on cars like the Duster and Creta.
Engines will be available in both petrol and diesel. Both are expected to be turbocharged. Manual and automatic gearboxes also may be offered. An all wheel drive system may not be offered as India is a fuel efficiency and cost conscious market that prefers front wheel drive cars.
