The Lamborghini brand is one the most popular brands in the world of sportscars. Lamborghini is a brand with a sense of exotic-ness, and they have been featured in numerous Hollywood flicks. Here are ten things that nobody tells you about Lamborghinis.
Idle high revving = fire
There have been many instances of Lamborghinis catching fire around the world. The sportscar gets numerous high speed moving parts that can get heated quickly. While the Lambos may sound music to the ears for some, one should stay away from pushing the accelerator too much.
Lamborghinis run a rich mix of fuel and air at high revs to maximize the power. If the car is idling and it is constantly revved at high RPMs, the stagnant air can make the engine quite hot. The high exhaust fume temperature mostly burns causing exhaust to throw fire naturally. Now if the car is not moving forward, the flames can go towards the body and engulf it in fire.
Lamborghini is not only into cars
Lamborghini Trattori was the first brand set up by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1948 before he started the business of high-end cars. However, the company has made sure that they do not leave their roots. Lamborghini still produces tractors, but they are not a part of the Volkswagen Group like the car brand. The tractors are available in many European and Middle East Asian nations.
An insult gave birth to the Lamborghini cars
Ferruccio Lamborghini loved Ferrari cars, but he was not quite happy with the quality of the iconic Italian brand. Ferruccio was vocal enough to make sure that Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Ferrari brand, got to hear his complaints about the clutch plate of his Ferrari. To this, Enzo insulted him by saying that he does not know anything about sportscars as he is a tractor manufacturer. After this, the Lamborghini cars were born, and now they have gained as much reputation as the Ferraris in the car world.
Not only a sportscar maker
Lamborghini is an established name in the world of sportscars, but they have also unveiled an all-new SUV named the Urus. In 1986, Lamborghini also launched the LM002. Lamborghini only made 328 units of the pick-up SUV and only a few of them are surviving.
Lamborghini never used turbocharging until now
Turbocharging multiplies the power of any engine, but smooth and lag-free power delivery can only come from naturally aspirated engines. In the history of Lamborghini, they have never used a turbocharged engine until their latest vehicle, the Urus. It uses a newly developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that generates a massive 641 Bhp marking the brand’s first-ever turbocharged engine.
No less than eight cylinders
Lamborghini vehicles are known for their high performance, and the Italian brand has made performance a high priority. All the Lamborghini cars ever produced had a minimum of 8 cylinder engines. The maximum number of cylinders in a Lamborghini vehicle is 12. We may see smaller engines in the future, but right now, it is all about muscles.
The raging bulls
The emblem of Lamborghini comes from the birth sign of Ferruccio Lamborghini, who is said to be an avid believer in astrology. Even the most road specific car names are named after famous fighting bulls from around the world. Think up of any Lamborghini name and it will be inspired by a fighting bull. The exceptions are LM002, Countach (which is a curse word) and Sesto Elemento, which is not a road legal car.
Lamborghini also powers boats
Lamborghini is rarely seen participating in motorsport events. However, the brand supplies V12 engines to the offshore powerboat championship speedboats. Just like Rolls Royce is a supplier of aircraft engines, Lamborghini is a well-established name when it comes to the powerboats.
The rarest Lamborghini was up for sale
Lamborghini decided to produce a concept model that was showcased in 2005. The open top concept vehicle was a homage to the older generation racing cars. 100 units were targetted initially but the mounting costs of the vehicle forced the brand to abandon the project. Only one car was made and it was powered by a mid-mount V10. It recently was sold for USD 1.32 million in an auction.
Also made a golf cart
The head of the Vatican can be seen on several gifted cars. Lamborghini also made a special golf cart for the Pope John Paul II. The cart had bulletproof glass too. Lamborghini has also gifted four such carts to the policemen at the St. Peter.s square which is used by them regularly.
