The 3rd generation Mitsubishi will make a comeback to the Indian market soon. The official website of Mitsubishi India has already listed the upcoming SUV and a few days back a dealership also showcased the Outlander. The new Mitsubishi Outlander is an all-new vehicle and gets 7-seats. The SUV goes against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the Indian market. Mitsubishi has already started taking the bookings for Rs. 50,000 and the price of the SUV is expected to be around Rs. 32 lakhs, ex-showroom.
A new of picture of the Outlander shows the vehicle at a dealership. Like the previous two generations of the car, the third-generation Outlander will only get a petrol engine. It is powered by a 2.4-litre MIVEC petrol engine that generates a maximum of 167 PS and 222 Nm. It gets a CVT automatic transmission that can be controlled through paddle shifters for a sportier feel. Although this SUV takes on the Toyota Fortuner, it misses out on a diesel engine. Mitsubishi may add a hybrid option in future though.
The new Outlander is much larger than the older generation model. It also gets a ground clearance of 190 mm, which is lower than what the competition offers. The new dimensions translate into bigger interior space. From the pictures, we can see that the dashboard of the new Outlander is plain and simple. It gets a touch-sensitive console in the middle of the dashboard and a separate control for the climate control system.
It also gets a sunroof, which is becoming a new trend in the Indian market. The new Outlander gets a dual-zone fully automatic air conditioner, keyless entry system with push start, electric parking brake with auto hold, anti-pinch sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, 7 airbags, ABS+EBD, Active Stability Control (ASC) and automatic LED headlamps. These features make it quite a loaded SUV, at par with the Toyota Fortuner.
The Outlander will reach the Indian market as completely knocked down (CKD) kits. The vehicle will be assembled at the Hindustan Motors plant in Tiruvallur, near Chennai. This is Mitsubishi’s second product in India after the Pajero Sport.
