The Hyundai Creta is India’s best selling compact SUV, and it just got a mid-life facelift earlier this year. What this also means is that the Creta is due for a replacement in less than a couple of years from now. Hyundai has already begun work on the all-new, 2nd generation Creta, reports Autocar.
The all-new Hyundai Creta will be launched by 2020 end. The compact SUV will get new petrol and turbocharged diesel engines that will meet the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 emission norms, which will be a lot more stingent than the prevailing Bharat Stage 4 norms.
The new Creta will borrow its engines from the facelifted Verna sedan, which will be launched a few months before. The new engines will displace 1.5 liters and will be first seen on the Kia compact SUV that’s due for launch by the end of next year.
While the engines will make slightly less power than the 1.6 liter units that the Hyundai Creta is powered by currently, they’ll be a lot more fuel efficient. Also, Hyundai is expected to make the Creta ready to be sold with hybrid and all-electric powertrains, two requirements that the future is likely to bring.
The 2nd generation Creta is expected to be significantly larger than the current version, and multiple reports suggest that there is a 7 seat, 3 row version in the works. It remains to be seen if Hyundai offers the new Creta in 5 seat and 7 seat variants.
The new SUV is likely to command a price premium over the current version. To justify the higher price tag, Hyundai is likely to load up the new Creta with a lot of premium features. From a heads up display to a panoramic sunroof, there’s a lot to expect from the new Hyundai compact SUV.
The new Hyundai Creta is expected to take on a wide range of SUVs considering the multiple seat layouts that it’s likely to be offered with. From the new Renault Duster at the lower end of the spectrum to the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass on the higher end of the price range, the Creta is likely to encompass multiple segments.
