The SUV market in India is on an upward trail and sensing this, Nissan is planning to bring in as many as 6 new SUVs in the coming time. Going by the company’s sales record, the two best selling models from Nissan are the Duster and the Kwid, both with SUV body work.
Okay, the Kwid is a SUV styled hatchback, but you get a hang of what’s being said. Therefore, the company has planned to play no more tricks and experiment and stick to what’s doing well for them. Let’s now take a look at what’s coming in.
Kicks
Enough has been said and written about Nissan’s HyundaiCreta challenger recently. The company has already revealed the India bound model but for now, only exterior details are confirmed. With the compact SUV segment showing the highest growth among other SUV segments, Expect the Kicks to make the already competitive segment hotter. The current market leader of the segment is the Hyundai Creta.
It will be larger in size than the Hyundai Creta and will come with a refreshing design. The Kicks is expected to be powered by the same engine set as in the current Duster/Terrano. This means that the 1.5 litre petrol motor and the 1.5 litre diesel will be present in the SUV. The petrol engine produces 104.5 Bhp/42 Nm whereas the diesel unit churns out 108.5 Bhp/240 Nm. The car could also come with a CVT transmission as an option.
Pathfinder
The Nissan Pathfinder is another SUV that is well received in many countries abroad. It will sit above the Nissan Terra here and offers seating for seven comfortably. It rivals the Toyota Fortuner internationally while the Terra takes on the affordable offerings like the Isuzu MU-X.
However, the story will be different in India as Terra is set to challenge the Fortuner and Endeavour among others. The variant sold in countries like U.S. come powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine that develops 284 Bhp of power along with 350 Nm of torque.
Terra
The Terra will be Nissan’s weapon of choice for giving a fight to Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Globally, Nissan is an acclaimed SUV manufacturer and enjoys a good reputation. However, the brand has not seen the same level of success in India with its premium SUV offerings. Nissan looks forward to change that with the Terra, which is already sold in many countries abroad.
It is a 7-seater SUV which is powered by a 2.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine with 188 Bhp of peak power and 450 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options with this engine include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed torque-converter automatic. The same configuration could make its way to here, but nothing is confirmed as of now as the India-spec Nissan Terra could be handled by the automaker’s design studio based out of Chennai.
X-Trail
Datsun Go-Cross
The Go-Cross will also be launched sometime from now and will be brought under the Datsun brand, under which the whole GO range is sold. The Go-Cross will be positioned under the Rs. 6 to 10 lakh price bracket and will rival the likes of Tata Nexon and Ford Ecosport. Datsun already sells the GO+ in India but its basically an affordable MPV rather than an SUV. The Go-Cross will be positioned higher than that. O the powertrain front, expect Nissan to use the 1.0-litre turbocharged version of the Datsun RediGo’s 1.0-litre petrol engine or the 1.2 litre litre engine found in the Go. Datsun is known for pricing its vehicles very economically and the Go-Cross is expected to follow the suit.
Patrol
The Patrol is the most high end SUV by the company. To give you an idea, internationally the car rivals Range Rovers and Land Cruisers and enjoys quite a large fanbase. The company has showcased the SUV in India sometime back and there were speculations the it would be launch soon, but that did not happen. However, not the company has hinted towards a possible launch in coming time.
Internationally, the 6th generation Patrol is available with a single petrol engine option, which is a huge 5.6 litre V8 beast . The all-aluminium engine uses direct injection and churns out 400 Bhp of peak power along with 560 Nm of peak torque. It will come as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) in India, so expect the prices to soar near Rs. 1 crore mark
