Tata Harrier will be launched in January 2019 and the manufacturer has already started taking the bookings for SUV. Tata has been releasing information about the upcoming Harrier every now and then through videos and a recently released video shows the vehicle being testing the scorching heat of Jaisalmer for the AC’s effectiveness.
The video shows the test mule of the Harrier going through the desert city of India. It says that the AC system of the Harrier has been calibrated for best-in-class cooling. It sure would come handy in the testing Indian conditions where the temperatures can soar up to 45 degrees in summers. The Tata Harrier would take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass in the segment. Earlier, a price leak indicated that it will get a starting on-road price of around Rs. 16 lakhs, which is much lower than the diesel Jeep Compass.
The Harrier would be the first-ever vehicle that will utilise the latest OMEGA platform of the brand. It is based on the LR550 platform of Land Rover but has been localised to bring down the cost. The Harrier would get a robust platform, which will make it a capable off-roader too. Tata revealed the design of the Harrier partially and a leaked picture of the SUV shows that it will remain very similar to the H5X concept when it comes to design. During the H5X unveiling at the 2018 Auto Expo, Tata announced that the design would be 85% similar to the concept and it seems to be holding true.
Tata will use the 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine supplied by Fiat in the Harrier. It is the same engine that powers the Jeep Compass too but the power output is not known. As per reports, the Harrier would 140 Bhp tuning and a higher fuel efficiency. Tata will also offer a 6-speed automatic transmission that will be supplied by Hyundai. The Harrier would also get the 4WD system, which will make it capable enough to get on the challenging terrains.
The Harrier would be a five-seater SUV but at a later stage, we would see a long wheelbase version of the Harrier that is currently under development. Named as H7X, it would take on the likes of Honda CR-V in the Indian market.
