Auto manufacturers have all geared up for the new year and have planned up a lot of new models to be launched this year. The first two months of 2019 will itself see a host of launches being made in all segments and price points. 2019 will see a lot of launches due to the updated safety and emission norms which have forced manufacturers to update their model lineup.
If you have been planning to buy a new car but have waited for the best to come, here are the 5 upcoming cars in January and February with their launch date.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
Launch Date: 23rd January
The new version of the tall boy WagonR was in making since some time. The Indian version sports a different design language than the JDM models. The car will be launched on 23rd January and will come with two petrol engine options, 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre. The 1.0 litre engine will be carried from the current model while the 1.2 litre engine is the same unit that is found under the hood of Ignis and Swift among others.
The car will come with many new features that include a touch infotainment system among others. Safety features like driver side ABS, EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder and speed warning will be standard fitments. The car is aimed squarely on the recently launched Hyundai Santro and it will be interesting to see which one emerges to be the winner amongst the two.
Mahindra XUV300
Launch Date: 15th February
The sub-compact SUV segment has become the best selling SUV segment and therefore it’s quite natural that Mahindra wants a pie of the cake. The XUV300 will be the company’s first serious take on the segment (not considering the TUV300 and Nuvosport) populated by the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon.
The SsangYong Tivoli based XUV300 has the longest wheelbase in the segment and will get many segment first features like dual zone climate control, steering modes, 7 airbags and disc brakes on all wheels among others. The vehicle will probably be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and the Marazzo powering 1.5 litre diesel unit.
Nissan Kicks
Launch Date: 22nd January
The Kicks is Nissan’s latest attempt to crack the Indian auto market where it has seen moderate to little success. The compact SUV is aimed squarely towards the Hyundai Creta and has a larger footprint than the latter. It is built upon the same B-Zero platform that also underpins the Renault Duster and Captur in India.
The compact SUV will get powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel engine, both of which are carried over from the Terrano. The Kicks will miss out on automatic transmission option at the time of its launch but will come with a host of features like 360 degree camera, cruise control and automatic headlamps.
Tata Harrier
Launch Date: 23rd January
Undoubtedly the most anticipated launch of January 2019, the car is all set to share its launch date with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which is also launching on the 23rd of January. The Tata Harrier is the biggest car in its segment and also the most feature laden one. Based on a Land Rover derived platform (Omega in Tata’s language), the Harrier will be powered by Fiat sourced 2.0 litre diesel engine that is also found under the Jeep Compass.
Dubbed as Kryotech engine, it will churn out around 140 Bhp of power along with 350 Nm of torque and will power only two wheels. Tata has made sure that the car looks attractive and has carried on the same policy with the interiors, which come with a host of first in class features. Noteworthy features includes an 8.8 touch infotainment system from Viseton, 9 speaker system from JBL, cooled glovebox and an 11 function ESP.
Toyota Camry
Launch Date: 18th January
Toyota’s flagship car in India, the Camry is all set to get a major overhaul next month. The new Camry has already been launched in most parts of the world and going by the reviews, Toyota has done a commendable again with the car. It looks much better than before and will be larger along with being more spacious than the car it replaces.
It will be powered by a 2.5 litre petrol hybrid engine that produces 176 Bhp of power along with 221 Nm of torque. As it will be Toyota’s flagship vehicle, expect it to come loaded with all the bells and whistles. The luxury sedan will get launched on 18th January and will rival the likes of Skoda Superb and Honda Accord upon arriving.
