The all-new 2019 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is all set to be launched in India on the 23rd of January, 2019. The car has already begun reaching Maruti Suzuki dealer stockyards. A new video taken at a similar stockyard somewhere in India reveals that the new WagonR is much larger than the outgoing model. The video from AutoVikings shows the car inside out. Watch it for yourself.
As the video reveals, the new Maruti WagonR is not just larger than the outgoing version but it also has completely revised interiors. The interiors seem better finished as well, and top-end trim will offer more features and performance. The new video shows the top-end ZXi AMT variant of the car, and the automatic gear shifter can be clearly seen.
From the spy video it also appears that the new Maruti WagonR looks better in the flesh than in pictures. The car gets a boxy design, and this will make sure that it has airy, spacious interiors. The brochure leak has already revealed that the new car’s boot capacity will be much larger than the outgoing version’s. The video shows that the interiors of the car will also be quite spacious, and better than that of the older model.
The profile of the car has changed, and has a few design touches that make it look like a crossover. Adding to the crossover-like looks are the tail lamps, which are now X’Mas tree units. The top-end ZXi trim of the car will use the 1.2 liter K-Series petrol engine that also powers larger cars such as the Maruti Swift, Baleno and Dzire. This motor will put out 82 Bhp of peak power and 113 Nm of peak torque.
Considering that the new WagonR is nearly 60 kilograms lighter than the outgoing model, expect performance to be very peppy to say the least. While a 5 speed manual gearbox will be standard with this engine, a 5 speed AMT will also be on offer. The new WagonR will also be available with a smaller, 1 liter-3 cylinder K-Series motor with 67 Bhp-90 Nm on tap. The smaller engine will offer 5 speed manual and AMT options as well. It will also be available with LPG and CNG dual fuel variants, aimed both at private car buyers and cab operators.
Coming to the new features on the new car, a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be offered for the first time ever on a India-spec WagonR. This particular feature will ensure that the new WagonR holds its own against its prime competitor – the Hyundai Santro – which also offers a similar feature.
A driver airbag, ABS+EBD, reverse parking sensors, speed alert, ISOFIX child seat mounting points and a seat belt reminder will be stabdard safety features on the new car. Higher variants will add a passenger airbag to the equation. The new WagonR will also meet Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) norms, and is expected to be a safer car than its predecessor.
