SUVs are mean machines that are built tough to conquer all sorts of terrain and conditions. By SUV, we currently are referring to big burly vehicles with powerful engines, low ratio gearbox along with some serious off road potential. While there are now a lot of categories in the SUV segment like compact, softroader among other, the old school SUVs are the best bets if you want to get onto dirty terrains. Now why we are telling you this is because of the video below, which shows a tug of war styled battle between a Ford Endeavour and a tractor. Now before you pick sides and declare a winner, let’s take a look at the video itself.
On contrary to what some of you might have guessed, the Endeavour beats the tractor in this tug of war. Towards the end of the video, we see the SUV pulling the tractor with it. However, the tractor put on a commendable effort and was at one point not even budging from its place. The tractor is a full on farm machine which is especially designed to haul heavy loads as well as counter rough terrain. Why the result came out in this way, this is something we are here to discuss about.
As the old saying about cars says – ‘There is no replacement for displacement’. The same is the case here, where the tractor loses out to the Ford Endeavour in battle. Now the tractor used in the video is a Swaraj 744 Fe model, which is powered by a 3136 cc diesel engine that produces about 45 Bhp of power. It is mated to a 8 forward speed gears along with 2 rear speed gears. In such competitions, tractors usually win or the competition results in a draw. However, the Endeavour here bests the tractor with the help of sheer power. With the number of gears the tractor has, it can multiply the torque output by multiple folds. That is the reason why it held its on during most part of the video.
However, the SUV at last tugs and pulls the tractor towards itself and gives it some violent jerks. Had the tractor been more powerful or the SUV a bit less on power, the final result could have been different. To let you know, the top end model of the Endeavour produces a hefty 197 Bhp of power, which is more than what most of its rivals offers. Because of this huge horsepower advantage, the Endeavour was able to get an advantage in the segment. The big groovy tires of the tractor help it to stay in the fight for sometime but eventually, it gives up.
Talking about the car in question, The Ford Endeavour is one mighty SUV and will soon receive a minor facelift too. The big SUV gets powered by a 2.2 litre engine, while a bigger 3.2 litre engine option is available too. The 2.2-litre turbo four diesel churns out 158 Bhp of power along with 135 Nm of torque. The Endeavour’s larger 3.2-litre diesel engine option, on the other hand, is a five-cylinder turbo unit that cranks out 197 Bhp of power and 470 Nm of torque. The base model of the Endeavour starts at Rs. 26.82 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi) while the top model costs a whopping 33.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
