Why Royal Enfield 650s sound different from 350cc, 500cc models? We explain [Video]

Royal Enfield has launched their first-ever parallel-twin engine powered Interceptor and the Continental GT 650. Both the motorcycles carry an extremely impressive price tag, which has attracted a lot of youths. However, with the all-new bikes, Royal Enfield has used an all-new twin-cylinder engine, which changes the whole characteristics of the Royal Enfield bikes.

Known for their signature thump and popular in the market for the same exhaust note, the all-new 650 Twins do not offer the same signature thump. The above video published by DCV is a proof of the stark difference between the exhaust note of single-cylinder powered Royal Enfield motorcycles and the exhaust note of the all-new parallel-twin engine.

The differences between the exhaust note are because of the way engines are designed. The single-cylinder 350cc and 500cc engines of the Royal Enfield have long strokes compared to the newly launched 650cc engine. Long strokes are inversely proportionate to the average piston time of the engine. Which means the piston takes a longer travel inside the sleeve and it takes more time to complete the cycle.

Royal Enfield Exhausts Comparison Featured

It translates into a longer time difference between each blast inside the combustion chamber. The time difference between each cycle gives more time to the exhaust gases to escape and each thump can be heard loud and clear individually. This gives the signature thump to the single-cylinder Royal Enfield motorcycles. While long stroke engines are not good to extract power, it sure very torque-rich.

The Royal Enfield 650cc engine has a relatively shorter stroke. There are twin pistons operating inside because it is a parallel-twin engine and each piston has a stroke length of 67.8mm, which is much lower than the 90mm stroke of both the 350cc and the 500cc Royal Enfield engines. The shorter stroke means that the piston has to travel less, which ensures quicker combustion cycles. The average speed of pistons in a smaller stroke engine is much higher, which creates a different sound altogether. Now, there are two cylinders in the 650 twins, which are working alternatively to move the crank. It creates a unique sound, which sounds like rumble than the thump.

It should also be noted that the shorter stroke engines can reach higher RPMs when compared to the longer stroke engines. The Royal Enfield 350cc engine produces the maximum power of 19.8 Bhp at 5,250 rpm and a peak torque of 28 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The 500cc engine produces a maximum of 27.2 Bhp at 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The all-new parallel-twin engine can rev much higher and churns out its maximum power at a much higher power brand. The new 650cc engine produces a maximum of 47 Bhp at 7,100 rpm and a peak torque of 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm.

Yes, the all-new Royal Enfield has lost the charm of its signature thump but it sure is attractive enough for the enthusiasts and Royal Enfield lovers, especially with the price tag it comes with.

BSA motorcycles’ launch timeline REVEALED by Classic Legends, owner of Jawa brand

0

Classic Legends, the brand that recently launched the Jawa motorcycles in India is now working to launch an all-new brand in the domestic market. Classic Legends is a subsidiary brand of the Mahindra Group and partly owns the brand Jawa and BSA. The Jawa brand has received a grand response from the Indian market. So much so that the online bookings of the Jawa motorcycles have now been suspended till September 2019.

After the rollout of the Jawa motorcycles in the market next year, Classic Legends would bring back another iconic brand to the Indian market in the form of the BSA. The BSA motorcycles would first be launched in the developed markets like the UK and the USA before coming to the Indian markets. The co-owner of the Classic Legends, Anupam Thareja has said that the Jawa Motorcycles have been designed and developed with the Indian customers in India. The BSA motorcycles would be designed and developed while keeping the global markets in mind and they will offer higher displacement products.

As per the manufacturer, Classic Legends has not planned the Indian launch of the BSA motorcycles just yet. They are focussing on delivering the Jawa bikes that have received an immensely good response from the market. The deliveries of the all-new Jawa bikes are expected to start from March 2019 and the current orders are expected to get cleared by September 2019. Classic Legends has announced that the Jawa bikes cannot be booked online now but customers can book them offline through the dealership network. Classic Legends is setting up an elaborate dealership and service network in the country and by March 2019, more than 100 operational dealers are expected to be operational.

Just like the Jawa brand, the BSA brand is an iconic brand born in the UK. The BSA bikes would be designed and engineered in the UK and will be sold primarily in the developed markets. At a later stage, they may be launched in the Indian market to compete with the higher-end products like the Triumph Bonneville and even the Royal Enfield Interceptor.

Currently, there is no information on the engine specifications of the upcoming BSA motorcycles. But they will continue to get their retro design with modern bits of engineering. The Jawa bikes are currently being manufactured at the Mahindra’s Pithampur facility. It is not known if the BSA bikes would be manufactured in India and will be exported to the different markets. However, if BSA motorcycles are manufactured outside India, the Pithampur facility can be used to assemble the BSA bike when they are launched in India and bring down the import taxes.

For now, Classic Legends has only announced about Europe, UK and the North America launch for the upcoming BSA bikes. We do hope that the legendary brand does come to India at a later stage and give a wide range of choice to the enthusiasts.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird modified into a BEAUTIFUL chopper styled bike

Talk of motorcycle modification and Royal Enfield comes to mind. Such is the bike’s mod presence in India that it is hard to find a complete stock Royal Enfield motorcycle in urban cities nowdays. The rise in the mod culture is due to the fact that it is a relatively inexpensive way to personalize your bike according to your taste. Like the motorcycle you see below, which has been modified by Hyderabad based Eimor Customs. Take a good look at it before we proceed any further.

Eimor Karma Font 2

This motorcycle infact belongs to one of the two co-founders of Eimor Customs, Mrutyunjaya Dash, aka MJ. The motorcycle which has been given this beautiful makeover started off its life in 2007 as a Royal Enfield Thunderbird, which makes it about 12 years old now. Called the Karma, it seems pretty well kept and now with the host of mods on it, looks ravishing. To let you now, it is MJ’s first bike, which  makes it even special for him as well as Eimor. Let’s now go through in detail through all that has been changed and revamped on the bike.

Eimor Karma Rear

Starting with the front, a shiny headlight inside chrome housing catches the attention. The front fender ends in a vintage design and has a vertically placed number plate on it. The crash guard are topped with two auxiliary lights on either sides. The original instrument console has been removed and the the ignition hole has been relocated to the left side of the engine in true vintage style. The custom handlebars give the Karma a proper chopper look. On top of the fuel tank is a retro style, filler cap that gets a chrome finish.

The mod job increases the length of the bike by two-inches over the standard model. Suspension duties are done by telescopic forks at the front and twin-sided springs at the rear. A single piece saddle finished in black is the only place to rest your rear. It has a diamond quilted pattern which looks quite cool. The rear custom fender covers the whole rear section of the bike and is topped by a vintage shaped LED tail light.

Eimor Karma

The engine has been done in matte black with the chambers in silver, adding to the overall look of the Karma. The sleek tank is another point which adds appeal and makes the bike look radical. However, the main feature of this whole mod job has to be the uber chic color combination of chameleon Orange/Violet and candy blue/violet flames with yellow pin striping. The front features disc brakes while the rear bite comes from drum brakes.

The Karma is among the better modified examples of the Thunderbird we have seen. It has been done just right without going over the top with more modifications. While it exactly is not subtle, it does not reek of hooliganism and that’s what sets it apart.

The Tata Harrier is a 5-seater SUV and will compete with the likes of Jeep Compass and higher-end variants of the Hyundai Creta. It is uniquely designed with separate LED DRLs and headlamp cluster, which is positioned lower in the bumper. The Harrier is powered by the 2.0-litre Multijet engine from Fiat. It generates a maximum of 140 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Tata will not offer an automatic or 4X4 option with the Harrier at the time of the launch.

Tata H7X

The Harrier’s concept version was named as the H5X. Tata is also working on a longer version of the Harrier that would get three-row, 7-seats set-up. It will be based on the same platform as the Harrier but is expected to get a longer footprint. Tata may not change the wheelbase of the H5X but the front and rear overhangs will get extended to make space for an extra row. Also, it will look substantially different from the Harrier and would get a straighter roofline. Engine and transmission options are expected to remain similar to the Harrier.

Tata 45X

Expected launch: Early 2020

Tata 45x Render Red 1

Tata also showcased the 45X premium hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will be the first premium hatchback from the brand and would take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. The 45X will be the first car that will be based on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). Given the history of Tata Motors, the production version of the 45X may remain quite identical to the concept version. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

Tata Tiago EV

Expected launch: Mid 2019

Tata showcased the production version of the Tiago EV at the 2018 Auto Expo. The car is ready to be rolled out in the markets too. The Tiago EV looks identical to the regular version but under the hood, there are batteries and electric motors. It gets powered by a 40 Bhp electric motor and the torque output is not known yet. The Tiago EV is expected to be priced at around Rs. 8-9 lakhs.

Tata Tigor EV

Expected launch: Mid 2019

Tata Tigor EV can already be spotted on the roads and can be taken on rent. Tata has started supplying the Tigor EV to the government-backed ESSL in India. Tata and Mahindra won tenders to supply electric vehicles and many government officials have received the Tigor EV and have started using it. Moreover, Tata has also supplied Tigor EVs to the car rental company Zoom Car and individuals can rent them in Pune, Maharashtra too. However, Tata is yet to offer the electric sedan for the private vehicle buyers. Tata will start selling the Tigor EV to the individuals by mid-2019 and it is expected to be priced at around Rs. 8 lakhs.

Tata Nexon JTP

Expected launch: September 2019

Tata Nexon Kraz

Tata Motors and Jayem Automotive have joined hands to form the performance arm of Tata Motors, which is known as JTP. After launching the Tata Tiago JTP and the Tata Tigor JTP, Tata and Jayem Automotive are now working on the performance version of the Nexon. The sub-4-meter compact SUV will get similar updates. The performance version of the Nexon is expected to get a stiffer suspension set-up for sharper handling, body kit and more powerful petrol engine.

Tata Harrier automatic

Expected launch: August 2019

Tata Harrier 22

Tata will initially launch the Harrier only with a manual transmission. However, there is a great demand for automatic vehicles in the market right now and Tata will launch the automatic version of the Harrier later in 2019. Tata will pair the 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai. It is the same transmission that is available with the Tucson in the Indian market.

Tata Pelican

Expected launch: Early 2019

Tata has discontinued the Nano from the market but is working on the next-generation Tata Nano project codenamed as Pelican. The project was shelved when the Nano got discontinued from the market but Tata may just bring back the back to re-enter the segment below the Tiago. However, it is not confirmed if Tata will bring back the vehicle with an affordable price tag as Nano suffered a lot from the “cheap” tag it carried.

Jawa 42 mileage test in EXTREME traffic: Be prepared to be surprised!

The Jawa duo has been in news ever since their launch. The retro themed bikes have got all the things going in their favour. A nostalgia-inspiring design, powerful engine, excellent brand value and expanding dealer network are some of the factors that make the whole package attractive. We even did a detailed review of the Jawa 42 and the Jawa Classic some days back which explains to a good extent how the bikes are. However, some people have been curious about the fuel efficiency the 42. For the same, we today bring you a video by The Spirited Biker which let’s us know of the bike’s mileage along with the whole testing process in detail.

As seen in the video, the fuel efficiency test process was a bit different from many other videos. Instead of emptying the tank and then filling it with a litre of fuel, this test is done with a tank full of fuel. The bike is ridden extensively through the city. First the bike is taken to a petrol pump where the rider fills the fuel tank with 1.14 litres of petrol. Then, the rider takes the bikes for a good spin and encounters heavy traffic along with usual city elements. Before starting the test, the odometer of the Jawa 42 displayed a reading of 1132.7 km on it.

After plenty of riding, the bike is again taken back to the fuel pump and the readings are taken. The odo now read 1157.9 km, which translates into about 25.2 kilometers of riding. Calculations reveal that the bike delivers a fuel efficiency of 21.92 km/l, or approx 22 km/l. The bike has a 14 litre fuel tank capacity, which equals to about 308 kilometers of range according to this test. However, some factors involved in the test have to be kept in consideration before arriving at a final conclusion.

Jawa 42 7

The bike was mainly ridden in heavy bumper to bumper traffic conditions and kept shuffling between 2nd and 3rd gears. Also, the first service of the bike was due which could result in a better figure. The overall mixed fuel efficiency of the bike then can be considered to be above 25km/l. However, a proper long road test could reveal different results, which will be higher than the current result of 22 km/l.

Talking of the bike, the Jawa 42 is powered by a 293 cc four-stroke engine that is based on the Mahindra Mojo. The short stroke engine churns out a decent 27 Bhp of power along with 28 Nm torque. The retro themed bike’s engine is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The engine employs technologies like liquid cooling, fuel injection ,a four valve head and twin camshafts, which are on par or even better than some of its rivals. The same engine powers the other company’s bike, the Jawa Classic. The Jawa 42 starts from an ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.55 lakhs.

Tata is on a roll and is launching a slew of new cars in the Indian market. After introducing the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP in the Indian market, Tata is working to launch the all-new Harrier. The all-new SUV would be launched in January 2019. Post the launch of the Harrier, Tata will bring in the all-new hatchback, which is currently codenamed as 45X and is spotted regularly on the Indian roads.

Here is one more video that shows the Tata 45X on test on the Indian roads. We have also received spyshots of a production version Tata 45X from our reader Megharaj Javali from Bangalore.  Hat tip, Megharaj.

The Tata 45X is one of the much-awaited vehicles in the Indian market. It will mark Tata’s entry into the world of premium hatchbacks. The 45X would take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. This would be the most expensive hatchback from the brand in the Indian market. Tata has not announced an official launch date for the 45X but it has hinted that the vehicle would be launched by the second quarter of 2019.

Even though the test vehicles remain heavily under the camouflage, it can be expected that Tata would design the production version very close to the concept version as it has always done. After the seeing the examples of the Nexon and the H5X to Harrier, we can safely assume that the production version of the 45X would carry a number of similarities to the 45X concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The car will become the first one to be based on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP), which has been named as the Alpha Arc.

Tata 45x Production Version Spyshot 1

The production version of the Tata 45X is expected to be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. There would be a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine, which also powers the Nexon and the diesel engine could be the 1.1-litre turbocharged unit, which is currently being developed.

Tata 45x Production Version Spyshot 2

The naturally aspirated version of the same engine is available with the Tata Tiago in the Indian market. Tata is also expected to launch automatic transmission with the 45X. According to a few reports, the all-new 45X may offer a dual-clutch transmission.

Tata 45x Production Version Spyshot 3

Tata has always priced their products very aggressively in the Indian market and the production version of the 45X is expected to carry an aggressive price tag too. The 45X is likely to undercut the rivals like Hyundai Elite i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the market.

Tata 45x Render Blue 1

Tata may also offer a hot-hatch version of the 45X at a later stage. That will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. Tata will also bring in a sedan version based on the 45X in the future and that would take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.

Legendary Kerala cop makes an ambulance escape a massive traffic jam [Video]

The Indian roads are one of the most crowded in the world. Most of the motorists ignore the traffic rules and even the traffic signals, which creates huge chaos on the roads. Often it leads to gridlocks and emergency vehicles like Ambulance, Fire Tenders and Police also face the wrath of such situations. Even in regular traffic, motorists ignore the need of giving a pass to such emergency vehicles.

A video from Kottayam, Kerala shows an Ambulance stuck in standstill traffic amidst big buses and other small cars. The dashboard camera of the ambulance records the video of a police officer who frantically waves at the vehicles in front of the ambulance to move them and make way for the emergency vehicle. The cop, who has been identified as Renjith Kumar Radhakrishnan can be seen running around frantically to move the vehicles and big buses to make space for the ambulance in the narrow roads.

The ambulance driver also did an extremely good job of driving through the squeezed spaces on the Kerala roads. The video has become viral on the social media and the police personnel has been appreciated for his good deeds to make way for the Ambulance. Such helping hands who go out of their way to help the people in distress are very rare nowadays and any such effort should be rewarded well.

Hero Kerala Cop Featured

There have been a few instances from Kerala where the motorists have helped the ambulances to go ahead in the busy streets. Sometime back video footage from the dashboard camera of an ambulance showed how people gave way and stopped on the side on a single-lane road in Kerala. While it is great to see such efforts on the roads, more people should get involved and take responsibility to follow rules strictly and give way to emergency vehicles whenever they are on duty.

The Emergency vehicles are involved in life-and-death situations and they always have the right of way on the public roads. It should be the top priority to give way to these vehicles on the road. While talking about such good samaritans on the road, everyone should pitch in to do their best to help such vehicles pass ahead on the public roads. Every second matter in emergency situations and the cop certainly did his best to make sure that Ambulance gets out of the traffic jam as quickly as possible.

Stopping on the side of the road to give way to emergency vehicles is the best way of doing it. Many people try to follow the ambulance to get a quick escape from the traffic situation but that is highly dangerous and can lead to dangerous accidents.

If you ever see an ambulance seeking way, please pull over to the shoulder of the road and let the ambulance pass. Tomorrow, it may just be you or your loved one that needs a service of an ambulance in an emergency.

1000 cc Royal Enfield exhaust note: What the Carberry engine sounds like [Video]

Most of the biking enthusiasts will agree to the fact that the way a bike sounds affects its overall personality. Many owners who modify their riders are often quite concerned with the exhaust note. Given that sound is among the first indication by-standers get of you arriving, a nice sounding exhaust is quite a reasonable demand to make. Sometime back, we brought you a radical bike modification which showcased a custom built motorcycle with a special tuned 1000 cc engine made by combining two 500 cc Royal Enfield engine. Now, let’s hear how the bike sounds.

The bike sure makes some great noise out of those twin pipes. It is made by an Englishman named Paul Smith of Jugaad & Co. This firm is based in India and was formally known as Rag & Bone Customs. Coming to the exhaust sound, it sounds like a true blue bobber motorcycle. It is screamy yet subtle with a burble to match. The bike definitly shows how things are done and can teach a couple of high end bikes when it comes to exhaust noise. The exhaust pipes look quite cool too, with a ringed pipe design. But then, this whole bike is looker. It is the one featured below and is built from grounds up.

Carberry

The minimalist design is what sets it apart, carrying over the true bobber essence which seems to be lost in many new bobber bikes. It is called the ‘Alchemy’, and for sure has the looks to match the name. The protagonist in the whole scene, however, is its engine which is made by combining two Royal Enfield 500 cc units together. It is made by Carberry, which is a company based out in Australia with plants in India. The unit on this bike is a 1000 cc V-Twin Carberry engine which is powered by two 500 cc UCE engine blocks from Royal Enfield. There’s a seven-plate clutch with strengthened primary chain, 5-speed transmission, hydraulic lifters and a heavy crankshaft. Carberry has added a heavy-duty starter motor and the clutch designed is that for a 2-litre car engine.

Carberry 2

The video featured here was shot during the Rider Mania 2018 edition, which was held in Goa. It is an event conducted by Royal Enfield and is among the biggest events for pure biking Nirvana. Thousands of enthusiasts, bike owners and tuners flock to the event when its held. One of the main attractions of the show is its custom bikes display area, which showcases among the best modified Enfields and custom made bikes of India. The Alchemy was also present in this edition and was quite a crowd puller. Its unique engine and bare bones design were among the main attraction, as it turned out to be among the best custom made bobber in India.

Off-roading is one of the most fun things that one can do with SUVs and taking it to dune bashing is even better. While there are not many places in India where you can take your off-roader for dune bashing, you sure can take them to Rajasthan for a great experience. However, things can go horribly wrong while doing off-roading on the dunes and even the most capable vehicles can get stuck. Here is a video that shows how a Mitsubishi Pajero gets royally stuck in the dunes and a Toyota Fortuner comes to its rescue.

The video does not show how the Mitsubishi Pajero got stuck at the location. However, it is clear that the SUV’s front right tyre got de-beaded from the rim, which caused the vehicle to get stuck at that point. The Mitsubishi Pajero was then saved by a Toyota Fortuner through a winch. The Toyota Fortuner could not come close to the Pajero due to the loose sand terrain, which could have caused the Toyota Fortuner to sink too.

The video shows traction boards placed under the left tyre of the Pajero to ensure that it gets maximum traction on the wheel. The traction boards are specially designed boards that allow the vehicle to get a better grip even in the most challenging situations. After the recovery was completed, people started working on the bringing the tyre back on the tread. The air was filled again and the tread was set right by pulling the tyre into its place.

To overcome such problems, special Beadlock rims are available for the off-roading vehicles. Such rims hold down the tyres in place to ensure that the tyres are always in place regardless of the fact of the forces acting on them. De-beading of the tyres is quite common in off-roading. Most of the experienced off-roaders reduce the air pressure in the tyres to get maximum surface area contact that increases the traction. However, it puts the tyres at risk of getting off the tread.

Pajero Fortuner Featured

Also, it is highly important to not to go at such off-roading places without being equipped or having a recovery vehicle. Getting stuck at such places is common and help can take a long time to reach such secluded places. Having a recovery vehicle helps in many ways. During the situations where one car is stuck badly and the other vehicle cannot help in the recovery, it can always go to the nearest town to get help.

Off-roading can be fun with the right tools, knowledge and experience in place. If one gets stuck without the right knowledge or the tools to save the vehicle, things may turn out quite badly.

The all-new XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli but Mahindra has made enough changes in the vehicle to give it a new identity. The all-new XUV300 has been designed with inputs from the Mahindra-owned popular car designing house Pininfarina. Here is a video that shows the wind tunnel testing of the upcoming SUV.

The wind tunnel test has been done in Turin, Italy, where the popular design house is stationed. The video shows how the vehicle is being tested in the massive wind tunnel. The smoke is released to see clearly how the wind is behaving around the vehicle and it shows smooth lines around the vehicle, which shows how aerodynamic the XUV300 is. Mahindra has not announced the drag coefficient of the XUV300 but from the video, it seems like very aerodynamic. In real life conditions, vehicles with low-drag coefficient product much lower wind-noise and are more fuel efficient.

The XUV300 will become the fourth product from the brand in the sub-4-meter SUV segment. It looks very premium and gets quite a few first-in-segment features. Mahindra partially announced the features of the XUV300 that includes the most-torque rich engine in the segment, the longest wheelbase in the segment, dual-zone climate control system, disc brakes on all four wheels are the few features announced officially by the brand. It also gets other features like dual-tone dashboard, cruise control, leather seats, sunroof, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a coloured driver information display.

Mahindra has not announced the engine options of the XUV300 too. However, it is expected to be powered by an all-new G80 turbocharged petrol engine and the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine available with the Mahindra Marazzo. It is only expected to get a manual transmission at the time of the launch but an AMT automatic transmission is expected to be added to the line-up at a later time.

Mahindra Xuv 300 Wind Tunnel

The XUV300 has been testing on the Indian roads for a long time now. At a later stage, it will also get a long-wheelbase version o the car that is expected to get three-row seats for 7-people.  Mahindra is expected to price the vehicle very competitively in the market but the top-end variants may get closely priced with the Hyundai Creta. Mahindra has not announced about the official bookings but many dealerships across the country have started taking unofficial bookings and the deliveries are expected to start by the end of February 2019.

The long wheelbase version of the Mahindra XUV300 is expected to arrive a year after the short wheelbase version launches. The long wheelbase variant is expected to get better power and torque outputs to cope with the additional passengers it will have to carry.

However, if Benelli goes in the right direction in terms of pricing, the TRK 502’s could be the new segment leaders.

Modified Toyota Fortuner from DC Design looks BRUTISH!

$

0

DC Design is quite popular in the Indian market for its off-beat designs. Here is a Toyota Fortuner modified by the North East wing of DC Motors and it sure looks brutal in its new clothes. The modification job is based on the older-generation Toyota Fortuner.

Fortuner 4

It is quite different from the Toyota Fortuner modified by DC earlier. It gets a new grille with elements made inside it. The all-black grille gets the DC logo on it. There is also a huge scoop placed on the bonnet of the Fortuner that gives it the masculine look. But it looks a bit overdone. Moving to the sides, the Fortuner gets flared wheel arches that get bolt-on to get the massive look. They actually increase the width of the Toyota Fortuner and make it look even more intimidating on the road.

Fortuner 3

At the rear, the only changes are the DC logo and the blacked out chrome parts. Also, it gets an aftermarket bumper at both front and rear. The modified DC Design Fortuner looks different and will attract a lot of attention on the road for sure but does it looks better than the stock version of the SUV? That’s for you to decide.

Fortuner 2

DC Design has not mentioned the price of the modification job but it can run into lakhs. DC Design is also popular for transforming the interiors of a car into expensive looking lounges. However, we are not sure if this Fortuner has received the same lounge treatment like the others. The last-generation Fortuner is liked and preferred by many because of its raw looks. With the modified looks, it will be dominating the roads. This Fortuner does not get extreme changes. The headlamps, tail lamps and wheel size remain the same as the stock.

DC also offers a different looking Fortuner modification that gets a very different kind of grille and front bumper. It also receives a totally different headlamp set-up with projectors and LED lamps inside. The new Fortuner modified by DC stays clear of all these features making it look a bit sophisticated. The last-generation Toyota Fortuner was also quite an off-roader and the modifications do not affect those capabilities.

Fortuner 1

In the past, DC Design has modified quite a few models including the popular ones like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and even Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford EcoSport. DC Design is one of the most renowned names in the Indian car modification circuit and they have also launched a few cars under their own brand name. While some designs from DC are outlandish to say the least, others are classy.

DC Design’s work on transforming the interiors of cars is much more sought after than just visual modifications on the outside. The design outfit has consistently demonstrated the ability to come up with bespoke luxury interiors even on mass market cars such as the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Marazzo.  Prices for such modifications are under Rs. 10 lakhs.

Jawa 42 transformed into 5 different forms: Scrambler to Cafe Racer

$

0

The Indian biking scene now boasts of an array of motorcycles that come in all shapes and sizes and also for all budgets. However, an affordable scrambler is still sometime away from us. Royal Enfield has been spied testing the scrambler version of its popular Classic 500 motorcycle too, but that will take some time to be finally production ready. Before the Jawa brand was relaunched in India, there were heavy speculations of a scrambler too in the company’s model lineup. However, that didn’t happen and we are still left waiting for a scrambler motorcycle in a budget. Here are 5 renders that showcase the 5 different designs of Jawa.

42 Scrambler – off road based

Starting the list with a scrambler, the Jawa 42 in a scrambler body looks quite good. A new tail section, short saddle, upswept silencer and the rear tail tail lamp lend the bike a typical scrambler appeal. The knobby tires further enhance its looks, as do the front beak and engine bash plate. A grille to the headlamp further adds to the Scrambler look. The render looks quite realistic and not very far fetched, which makes it even better. The 27 horses its engine produces should be enough to make this little monster go all over the dirty trails.

42 Scrambler – City Smart

Turns out that scrambler based designs are most popular for the Jawa 42. This one here is another 42 turned into a Scrambler. This one is inspired from the Ducati Scrambler and most of the bits are taken directly from the bike. This includes the tires, front fork, the tail section along with the one piece seat. There is a windshield up front and the handle bars have been equipped with knuckle guards. Undoubtly, it looks quite good and we would definitely love to see a similarly designed scrambler Jawa in real life.

Bobber

Jawa Bobber

This render came before the launch of the Jawa bikes and hence the design. The render showcases what could have been the rumored bobber Jawa. Talking of which, Jawa showcased the official Bobber at the launch too, called the Perak. The bobber here looks quite striking and has a elongated wheelbase, single seat and a cool single piece tail light on the rear fender. Other elements like the sliced silencer and short front fender too look good. The Perak and this render have quite a lot of similarities in between, which shows how good the design is.

Cafe Racer

47137370 172874407006578 5375741285226131557 N

Among the better renders we have seen of the Jawa yet, this one incorporates a cafe GT inspired look on the 42. The most striking element, however, is the gorgeous retro front cowling. The single set seat with a rear set cowling, which gives it a typical cafe racer look. The cyan paint also gives it a distinct character. The front cowling also features 42 written in white, which again is attention to detail. Though Jawa has not yet announced a cafe racer themed bike in near future, seeing this one, we definitely want to see one soon.

Scrambler

Jawa 300 Scrambler Side Profile B27e

Another scrambler to end the list, this one too came out before the official unveiling of the Jawa bike. However, if the company decides to make the scrambler different from the current lineup, this design could be the ideal one. This is because it incorporates the basic Jawa DNA into a nimble scrambler body. The long striped seat, knobby tires, short front and rear fenders along with the striking silencer design all add to its scrambler looks. Scramblers are meant to be light weighted machines with minimal bodywork and this render here achieves just that.

Upcoming, 2019 Yamaha FZ V3.0: What it’ll look like

Yamaha FZ 3.0 has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads and the launch of the all-new bike is imminent. Yamaha is expected to launch the 2019 FZ V3.0 in the Indian market in early 2019 and based on the spy pictures, here is rendered image of how the bike may look like in real life.

Yamaha Fz 1

The naked bike that takes on the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer, Bajaj Pulsar and the Honda Hornet will soon be updated with a lot of visual and mechanical changes. The design of the upcoming Yamaha FZ 3.0 will be updated with the new redesigned fuel tank and updated radiator. It is also expected to get all-new LED headlamp, which can be similar to the one we see on the Yamaha FZ25. The overall body design of the FZ 3.0 has been updated too and it now gets a sleeker tail section and a new single-piece seat.

The alloy wheels look very much similar to the Yamaha FZ25 and get a 10-spoke set-up, which looks way more aggressive than the outgoing 5-spoke wheels. The fat rear tyre features a short mudguard that exposes the tyre and gives it a very wide look. The new FZ will also get an updated digital instrument cluster but the features are expected to remain the same. Other changes include updated body graphics that will be much more aggressive than the current one.

Engine-wise, the new Yamaha FZ 3.0 is expected to remain unchanged. It will get a 149cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that produces a maximum power of 13.2 PS and a peak torque of 12.8 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission. As per the new safety rules, the bike will also get a single-channel ABS, which will become mandatory to the new rules coming in on April 2019. However, both the wheels of the FZ V3 would get the disc brakes.

Yamaha Fz 2

The Yamaha FZ V3.0 is the best-selling product of the brand in the Indian market. It has a strong legacy behind it and the new model will only make it tougher for the rivals. Yamaha is also expected to launch the all-new MT-15 in the Indian market, which will be a performance naked bike.

The MT-15 is powered by the same engine as the YZF-R15 and will target the youths who want a powerful naked bike. It will be first of its kind product and even though it will be the same displacement segment as the FZ V3.0, it will have a different target audience.

Rev-crazy Suzuki Hayabusa rider BUSTED [Video]

$

Putting aftermarket exhausts in the bikes and vehicles is illegal in India. There are many who do it and get away with it without any objections or fines from the cops. This video from Karnataka shows one such rev-happy biker who attracted the cop’s attention while doing a photo shoot of the bike.

The cops roll in when the rider was revving the bike to its glory. It should be noted that the exhaust muffler seen on the Hayabusa is not stock. It is a performance exhaust from Brock’s that increases the performance of the bike but also increases the exhaust sound. The cops came to the group and asked them if they were pulling up wheelies. When they started questioning, a few bikers nearby left the spot, which the person in the video claims were riding without a helmet.

Cops then said that they have seen them pulling wheelies and someone lodged a complaint against them. To which the bikers reply in negative and say that they are just shooting the bike since last 30 mins. The video shows the same bike pulling a wheelie on the public roads, which again is illegal. Later, the cops tell them to take permission and do things with police protection. The bikers later leave from the spot without getting a fine for the loud exhaust.

Performance exhausts increase the noise level so much that they are banned for road use. They can be used in private properties like racing circuits and other places. Most of the cops from various states have started targetting the bikes with loud exhausts around the country. Most of the targetted bikes are Royal Enfield, which are unpopular for their aftermarket exhausts. Even the superbikes are targetted by the cops but most of the times they get away by saying that these are sports bikes and they sound like this in stock form.  Cops do not get a decibel meter that can measure the exact noise output of exhaust to issue the fine.

Hayabusa Busted Features

However, there have been quite a few instances in the past where the superbikes have been stopped at the traffic signals for the noise and have been issued fine. As the cops are getting to know more about such bikes and aftermarket exhausts, we are sure that the future of aftermarket exhaust systems in India looks bleak. Aftermarket exhausts cause a major nuisance on the roads and create a lot of noise pollution.

Not all aftermarket exhausts are illegal though. There are many types of exhausts that meet the noise regulations and increases the performance at the same time. However, they are not as effective as the performance exhausts.

Royal Enfield Bullet vs Bajaj Chetak in a tug of war: 2 stroke vs 4 stroke battle [Video]

$

The Bajaj Chetak has been and will always be a legendary scooter for us Indian. Many may remember it as their first set of two wheels or the first two wheeler they had ridden on, except a bicycle maybe. It revolutionized the way people traveled and became a house hold name. Why we are telling you this today is because of a video we have brought you, which shows a rather interesting competition.

We have in past brought you many stories which showcased tug of war scenarios but today, the competition is between an old school Bajaj Chetak vs a Royal Enfield Bullet. Interesting, take a look at the video below before we get onto what’s happening and why.

As expected, the Chetak loses out to the more powerful and newer Royal Enfield Bullet. However, what is noteworthy is the fact that the Chetak gave quite a fight to the Bullet, which is actually good to see. After all, it hints towards the old school scooter still having some muscles take on the likes of Royal Enfields. Also, to make the competition more fair, the scooter was loaded with a weighted sack. Afterwards, a man also comes and sits on the pillion seat of the scooter. As the Bullet is much heavier than the scooter and in competition like these, weight is a determining factor, this made the playing ground fair to some extent.

The Chetak used in the video is apparently a two stoke variant, which probably explains the resistance it is showing to the pull of the more powerful Bullet. Two stroke engine, though more polluting and technically less sound, provided much more power from a smaller capacity engine and also, the power delivery was sooner than their four stroke counterparts. This is because two less steps its engine had to complete, meaning greater RPM in less time. This was among the reasons why the Yamaha RX-100 was such a blast during its days and is still an enthusiast favorite motorcycle.

The bike used in the video is the 350 cc version of the Royal Enfield Bullet. It has a 346 cc engine that churns out 19.8 Bhp of power along with 28 Nm of torque. It is quite a heavy bike too and tips the scales at 180 kg. To let you know, the Bullet series of motorcycles by Royal Enfield is the world’s oldest running still in production motorcycle series. The production of the Bullet motorcycles started back in 1932 and was among the fastest bikes of its time. There was a gap of some years in between but from 1948, it has been in regular production.

Talking about the Bajaj Chetak, the iconic scooter was first made in 1972 during the initial days of Bajaj. It was originally based on the Vespa Sprint but around 1980, Bajaj developed an in-house design which it employed on the Chetak range. All the Chetak’s produced before 2002 were two stroke models. However, after 2002 and until its production end in 2006, the Chetaks made had a four stroke engine. As already stated, the model used in the video above is apparently a two stroke version. it was powered by a 145 cc two stoke engine that churned out 7.5 Bhp of power along with 10.8 Nm of torque.

Also, the video shows the competition being held on an open road amid passing traffic. We strongly advise against this and everybody must refrain from doing such antics on an open road. It not only puts your life to danger but also poses a threat to the other road users. If you have to do anything as such, better find an empty ground or an unused stretch of road.

Tata Nexon crosses river in Ladakh like a BOSS [Video]

The sub-4-meter compact SUV segment is populated by a range of cars but none of them gets the 4WD system. These vehicles have been often criticized by the enthusiasts for the absence of 4WD but due to the high ground clearance and wide tyres, they are capable of doing quite a few things just like shown in this video.

This video is of Tata Nexon on one of the most dangerous roads in India in the Ladakh region. The Nexon has been shown going through dangerous water crossing and rocky terrain. It does struggle a bit but goes over the whole road without much problem. The Tata Nexon gets a ground clearance of 209mm, which is highest in the segment. It helps the vehicle to stay clear of any obstruction on the road.

Towards the end of the first water crossing, the Nexon did struggle quite a bit due to the slippery surface but it managed to come out without much effort. Yes, such roads are custom made for the 4WD vehicles but even 2WD vehicles can go on such places if it gets an experienced driver.

Tata Nexon is an FWD vehicle just like all the other cars in the segment, except for the TUV 300. The wider tyres give more traction, which allows such sub-4meter compact SUVs to be more capable than the hatchbacks and sedans. Also, the higher ground clearance ensures that the front bumper stays clear of any obstacle like big stones on the road. This video perfectly demonstrates that the 2WD or 4WD system does not really matter until you’re doing extremely hardcore off-roading.

However, having a 4WD does help in such situations and driving becomes much more effortless. There have been many different kind of cars going to the Ladakh region since years and many of them are entry-level hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Alto and even Tata Nano.

The Tata Nexon is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options and both of them are quite powerful in the segment. Tata offers a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the Nexon, which generates a maximum power of 108 Bhp and a peak torque fo 170 Nm.

There is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum of 108 Bhp and a peak torque of 260 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel engine options get a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT automatic transmission. Both the engine types also get drive modes that change the power output according to the mode.

Tata Nexon Off Road Feature

Tata Nexon has become quite popular in the segment and is now the second best-selling product in the segment after the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It gets a unique design with a three-tone body colour finish. The Nexon has become massively popular because of its extremely value-for-money price tag in the market. Average ex-showroom prices of this compact SUV start from Rs. 6.37 lakhs, making it cheaper than both the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.

Hyundai Elantra

2019 Hyundai Elantra Facelift Featured

The premium sedan offering from Hyundai will also be getting a upgrade in 2019. The new model has already been launched internationally and its India launch was awaited. It also gets new tail lamps, which makes it look very aggressive. The interiors will also be plusher and will come with features like a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, forward collision warning system and automatic emergency braking among others.

Hyundai Xcent Facelift

Expected launch: Mid 2019

Hyundai’s sub compact sedan, the Xcent will also get a facelift treatment this year. The company is probably developing the new Xcent as a separate project, away from the Grand i10’s design policy. Honda has done the same with the Amaze and has seen considerable success in the segment. The all-new Xcent has been caught testing on the Indian roads and it is expected to be launched by the end of 2019. The new car will have better and more spacious interiors along with a refreshed exterior design to boot.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Expected launch: Mid 2019

Santa Fe 1697

The Santa Fe previously sold in India never became the sales success Hyundai expected it to be. The full fledged seven seater SUV, however, is making a comeback this year and will take on the newly launched Mahindra Alturas G4 and the Honda CR-V among others. It now features an all new design policy that boasts of a bold front façade, an aggressive stance and several sporty design elements. The interiors are also more spacious and plusher than before and will come with all the creature comforts expected of an SUV at that price point.

Hyundai Kona EV

Expected launch: Mid 2019

The Kona electric vehicle will be Hyundai’s first electric car in India. Hyundai will launch the car by second or third quarter of 2019. Hyundai will launch only the electric version of the car in India, although it is available in many other powertrain versions in the international markets. It is not yet confirmed but Hyundai may assemble the vehicle in India if it becomes popular in the market initially. The Indian assembly would help it to keep the prices competitive. The Hyundai Kona EV would get a 64 kWh battery that will propel the SUV to up to 480 km on a single charge.

Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT: New TVC out

$
0
0

Maruti Suzuki has come up with a new television commercial for the Vitara Brezza AMT. Last year, the automated manual transmission (AMT) version of the Brezza was launched in India. The Brezza AMT is the only automatic SUV sold by India’s largest automaker. Average ex-showroom prices of the Brezza AMT start from Rs. 8.9 lakhs. Meanwhile, here’s the new TVC.

The Maruti Brezza AMT is powered by the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine with 89 Bhp-200 Nm. The gearbox is a five speed unit that’s been automated by a Magneti Marelli sourced AMT unit. Since AMTs essentially automate the gear shifting action of the manual gearbox, the high fuel efficiency of the manual gearbox is more or less retained. This means that the mileage figure claimed for the Maruti Brezza AMT is identical to the manual gearbox equipped version, at 24.29 Kmpl.

This combination of convenience and high fuel efficiency has made AMT cars very popular in India. Apart from the Maruti Brezza, the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra TUV300 offer AMT options on diesel engined sub-4meter compact SUVs. The upcoming Mahindra XUV300 is also expected to get an AMT option.

Maruti Brezza Amt Tvc Featured

In 2019, a facelifted version of the Maruti Brezza is likely for the Indian market. Along with a facelift, the compact SUV is likely to gain a petrol engine. The 1.5 liter K-Series motor offered on the Ciaz and Ertiga – with outputs of 104 Bhp-138 Nm is one such engine that could be offered on the petrol powered Brezza.

Another possible engine option for the compact SUV is the 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol unit called the BoosterJet. Offered on the Baleno RS, this motor makes 101 Bhp-150 Nm. Both engine get 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard while the 1.5 liter K-Series unit is also available with a 4 speed torque converter automatic option.

Another major change in the facelifted Brezza’s powertrain department is likely to be the replacement of the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine with a newly developed, in-house 1.5 liter diesel. The new diesel engine will allow the Maruti Brezza meet the upcoming Bharat Stage 6 emission norms. However, there might be a steep increase in prices due to the additional emission compliance equipment needed. The Brezza Diesel’s prices could go up by at least Rs. 1 lakhs thanks to the new emission control equipment added for BS6 compliance. In such a situation, a petrol version of the Brezza is expected to be quite attractive to most buyers.

Maruti Suzuki could also add a hybrid engine option on the Brezza in the coming years. The petrol-hybrid version of the Maruti Brezza could be about Rs. 1.5 lakhs pricier than the petrol powered version, which is likely to start from Rs. 7 lakhs. The idea behind the petrol-hybrid version of the Brezza is to replace the diesel powered version in the long run. Tightening emission norms are expected to slowly kill off diesels completely, and petrol-hybrids and all-electric cars are expected to take the place of diesels.
