Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 SMOKES a Yamaha R3: Surprising result [Video]

The Indian biking scene has grown to be quite exciting since the last couple of years. Almost all major brands are now present in the country and manufacturers are focusing on providing world class performance levels at affordable rates. The latest entry of the Royal Enfield 650 twins and also the Jawa twins have further hottened things up. The Continental GT 650 is a cafe racer themed bike and as been pitched more towards performance. However, how well does it fare against proven performance bikes like the Yamaha YZF-R3. For the same, let’s take a look into this video by Kolkata Rider Arijit and find out how the Japanese technology hold up against Indian performance.

The Yamaha YZF-R3 gets smoked, and badly. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 shoots like a dart leaving the R3 in dust. While the Continental GT has a clear horsepower advantage of 6.2 Bhp, it is also significantly heavier weighing 198 kg. The R3 has a kerb weight of 169 kg, which is 29 kg less than the other bike. Whether the R3 used in the video is in ideal condition or not is a question that could possibly answer the shocking result, going by this video, the Continental GT 650 is a clear winner over the R3 in terms of outright acceleration.

The Yamaha YZF-R3 is among the best budget twin cylinder performance bike in the country. It is powered by a 321 cc, liquid cooled, twin cylinder engine that churns out 40.8 of power Bhp @ 10,750 along with 29.6 Nm of torque @ 9,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a six speed gearbox. The asking price for the R3 is Rs. 3.49 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi, which is about Rs. 85,000 more than the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.

Royal Enfield Continental Gt

Talking of which, the Continental GT 650 employs a 648 cc, air/oil cooled, twin cylinder engine that churns out a healthy 47 Bhp of power @ 7,250 rpm and 52 Nm of torque @ 5,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a six speed slipper clutch. If we talk of value for money in terms of sheer engine output, the Conti beats every other bike out there by offering 47 Bhp of power at an asking price of just Rs. 2.65 lakhs, except of course its twin Interceptor that offers the same at Rs. 2.50 lakh.

Also, the race is conducted on a busy, regular road which is quite hazardous and something that should be avoided. Not only it means that one is flouting road rules and putting themselves to risk, such races on busy roads also is a threat to the other road users. Therefore, always avoid doing such antics and if necessary, race in an enclosed road or unused piece of tarmac. A full set of riding gears is also a must, as it can be the element between one’s life and death during a situation involving a crash.

New Maruti Ertiga: First discount surfaces!

Car sales are slowing down in India, and this has prompted automakers to take multiple measures. While reducing  production to cut inventory levels is one move that automakers are up to, dealers are taking the options of  discounting to boost sales. The just-launched Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV is already available at a dealer-level  discount. There’s a 10,000 rupee discount on the new Ertiga, as revealed by a Team-BHP member.

New Maruti Ertiga11

Usually, this is something that’s unheard of on a recently launched car, more so a Maruti Suzuki. It only shows the  pressure dealers are under to clear stock at the beginning of the year. The discount on the new Ertiga is from the  2018 stock, and this explains why there’s a discount on a recently launched car.

Car buyers in India are reluctant to buy a car with a manufacturing date from the previous year. This makes dealers  offer attractive discounts in order to push the leftover stock from the previous years. For those who love deal  hunting, January and February are great months to buy cars manufactured in November or December of the previous year. Large discounts are usually on offer on such cars.

New Maruti Ertiga1

Coming back to the Maruti Ertiga, the MPV’s second generation version was launched in India during November, a  the fag end of last year. The MPV is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, and dealers are even offering after-market CNG kits as a dealer level fitment. Average ex-showroom prices of the all-new Maruti Ertiga, which is based on the HEARTECT platform, start from Rs. 7.44 lakhs.

This makes the Maruti Ertiga cheaper than both the Mahindra Marazzo and the Toyota Innova Crysta, and gives buyers the option of a 7 seat MPV at a much lower entry price. The new Ertiga is larger than the outgoing version although the wheelbase remains the same. The larger exterior dimensions have resulted in additional room on the inside, making the new MPV more spacious than the outgoing version.

New Maruti Ertiga15

The engines and gearboxes have also seen a few changes. The 1.4 liter K-Series petrol engine that the older version  used to come with has been replaced with a 1.5 liter K-Series unit on the new model. The new engine is more powerful, and outputs 104 Bhp-138 Nm. It gets 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.

The diesel engine on the new Ertiga is a carryover from the previous model. The 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet unit makes 89  Bhp-200 Nm, and is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. All engines of the MPV drive the front wheels, and there’s no automatic option available on the diesel variant.

Within the end of 2019, Maruti Suzuki will replace the 1.3 liter diesel engine of the new Ertiga with a brand new,  in-house 1.5 liter diesel engine. The new diesel engine will allow the Ertiga to meet the upcoming Bharat Stage 6  emission norms.

Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the facelifted Baleno in the Indian market. The car was first launched in 2015 in the Indian and it has not received any updates since its launch. The facelifted version will keep the Baleno fresh in the segment.

Maruti Baleno 1

It is a mild facelift of the Baleno and no major change is expected to happen. There are mild changes including a new headlamp cluster that looks similar to the one we get to see on the Baleno RS. It gets the same smoked effect. The biggest change would be the new bumper that changes the whole look of the premium hatchback. The new bumper gets a bigger rectangular air dam with new fog lamp housings that give an aggressive look to the vehicle. Other than that, we can expect an updated rear bumper and tail lamps. Maruti can even offer a new set of alloy wheels.

The interiors are also expected to get mild updates. Maruti may update the instrument cluster’s dials but the functions will remain the same. The seats may get new upholstery with premium fabrics. Maruti may also update the dashboard with wooden inserts as seen on the dashboard of new Ciaz to give it a premium feel. Apart from that, everything else is expected to remain the same. Maruti will offer similar features that are available with the current model of the Baleno. No changes are expected to the feature list.

Maruti Baleno 2

Other changes may include the speed sensing door locks and the speed alert system. Both of these features have been added to the facelifted Ciaz too. Everything else apart from these changes is expected to remain the same. Maruti will continue to offer the new Baleno with the 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine that generates a maximum of 83 Bhp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 115 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The 1.3-litre diesel engine produces a maximum of 74 Bhp at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The petrol version is available with both manual and a CVT automatic transmission.

The diesel variants are only available with a manual transmission. Maruti also offers a performance version of the premium hatchback in the form of Baleno RS. It is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power 101 Bhp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm between 1,700 – 4,500 rpm. It only gets a manual transmission. The visual updates are also expected to be carried over to the RS version of the hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno is extremely popular in the market with the sales averaging around 17,000 units per month. The closest rival Hyundai Elite i20 stays far behind on the sales chart. With the new updates in place, the sales are only expected to rise.

Old Royal Enfield Bullet 350 pushing a Hyundai Xcent through traffic: How it’s done [Video]

Royal Enfield motorcycles have always been known for their torque-rich engines. Big low end torque of Royal Enfield motorcycles has been demonstrated in various ways. Here is another demonstration of how useful low-end torque can be. This video of an old Royal Enfield Bullet using all its power to push a Hyundai Xcent.

What is happening here?

The video shows a cab-driver trying to push his Hyundai Xcent alone on the road. The exact reason for the driver being stranded on the road is not known but it seems like vehicle’s fuel has finished. Most of the cabs in Delhi-NCR run on CNG and often their fuel tanks remain empty or close to empty. It is quite possible that the cab’s CNG and fuel emptied on the road.

The video was taken from the helmet-mounted camera of the biker who lend a helping hand to the cab driver. He used his left leg to push the Hyundai Xcent to the nearest fuel station. The distance was not much but it was long enough to demonstrate the power of the Royal Enfield.

Royal Enfield Pushing Xcent

The old-generation Royal Enfield with the brakes on its left-hand side and the gear lever on the right-hand side has been used in the video to push the Xcent. As the biker spots the driver pushing the vehicle alone on the busy road, he offered help and started pushing the bike.

The note of the engine did feel like that it is under a lot of stress due to the heavy weight of the car but it did manage to push the Xcent without much problem. The maximum speed that the bike reached while pushing must not be more than 30 km/h.

The old-generation Royal Enfield Bullet was powered by a cast iron engine, which produced a unique exhaust note. The single-cylinder 346cc, single-cylinder engine developed a maximum power of 18 Bhp at 5,000 rpm and a heavy torque of 32 Nm at 3,000 rpm.

It had a 4-speed transmission. There are many examples of cast iron Royal Enfield running effortlessly on the roads. The new Royal Enfield motorcycles do not offer the cast iron engines anymore and these engines were replaced with the new-generation Unit Construction Engines (UCE).

The heavy low-end torque helps the bikes to move heavy objects. The Cast Iron engine develops the maximum torque at a low RPM of 3,000. The long-stroke engine helps the bike to develop such a high torque at a low rpm. The gross weight of the Hyundai Xcent is around 1100 kg, which is quite high for any bike to tow or push. The long-stroke engines have characteristics of offering heavy low-end torque but they cannot be revved high and do not offer very high top speed.

It is fortunate that the cab driver found someone to help him to move his vehicle to the nearest fuel station. It is always important to keep a certain amount of minimum fuel in the car. Also, roadside assistance (RSA) can be very useful in such situations. RSA is provided by both manufacturers and the insurance providers. Always call the emergency helpline of the insurance provider or the manufacturer during such situations to get help.

Royal Enfield has been exploring new segments for a long time now. Royal Enfield already offers adventure bike in the form of the Himalayan, cruiser bike in the form of Interceptor, cafe racer in the form of Continental GT 650 and so on. The next segment from the two-wheeler giant is the scrambler segment and Royal Enfield will soon launch the new bike based on the Royal Enfield Classic range in the market.

Trials 3

The scrambler iteration of the Royal Enfield will be called Royal Enfield Trials and it is currently being tested by Automotive Research Authority of India (ARAI) and is expected to be launched in th e first quarter of this year. The Royal Enfield Trials has been seen testing on the Indian roads but a set of new pictures show the production version of the bike will look like.

Trials 350

The Royal Enfield 350 Trails and 500 Trails would be touring-friendly bikes and would offer a lot of features that will make touring hassle-free. Starting with the high mounted exhaust to the luggage rack in the rear, the Royal Enfield Trails is built for the long-distance touring. To help the bikes on slippery terrains, Royal Enfield has also added a big block, knobby tyres on the spoked rims. The front and rear suspension are likely to be long travel but the feature could not be confirmed. However, it also gets raised rear mudguard that will ensure that the rear wheel does not touch the mudguard on bad terrains. It only gets a single seat, which ensures that there is maximum space to keep all the luggage you want while travelling long distance.

Royal Enfield will keep the engines identical to the Classic range. The Royal Enfield 350 Trails would be powered by a 346cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that generates a maximum power of 19.8 Bhp and 28 Nm of peak torque. The Royal Enfield 500 Trials would get 499cc, single-cylinder engine that generates a maximum of 27.2 Bhp and a peak torque of 41.3 Nm. Both the engines get the 5-speed transmission. It is not known if Royal Enfield has tweaked the gearing but it is highly unlikely. The Royal Enfield 350 Trials is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 1.6 lakhs while the 500 Trails would be priced close to Rs. 2 lakhs in the market. Both the bikes would get mandatory ABS system.

Trials 500

Royal Enfield recently launched the Interceptor and Continental GT 650 in the Indian market. The Interceptor has become the most affordable parallel-twin engine powered bike in the Indian market. In the future, Royal Enfield is expected to utilise the all-new engine in various bikes including the Himalayan and the Classic range. However, it may take some time before they become a reality.

EXTREME road rage: Man gets onto truck driving on wrong side [Video]

$

0

Rash driving and road rage are quite a common sight in India. Not only are the people to blame for that, but irregular road networks and poorly designed roads too are responsible for it. There are many cases of accidents every day in India, most of which are caused by the irresponsibility of the driver. Wrong side driving is also among the chief contributer in accidents. On the same note, we today bring you a video which highlights the issue of wrong side driving. Also, this video also showcases another issue which is of prime concern. Let’s now take a look into the video before discussing further.

Like already said, the video raises quite a question over the driving habits we have developed over time. In the video, we see a truck being driven on the wrong side of the road. It is being followed by two SUVs, both of which are also being driven on the wrong lane.

The two SUVs in pursuit of the truck are Tata Sumo and the now discontinued Chevrolet Tavera, both in white paint shade. then one of the car overtakes the truck and stops the truck. After this drama, a man gets down from Tavera and runs towards the truck in a frenzy.

This is then followed by the man climbing on top of the truck. What led to this is still unknown, but the act itself is a prime example of foolishness. The car recording the video is running on the other side of the road, which actually is the lane where the other vehicles should be driving in. The man, who climbed onto the truck, then disappears from the video frame. Actually, he went from the side of the truck to the front. The action does no stop here, as the man then goes further ahead and goes towards the driver side door.

Man Truck 1

This is then followed by the man climbing on top of the truck. He gets atop the cabin and then further back on to the lorry side of the truck. The truck then crosses over to the right side and is still being followed by the Tata Sumo Victa and the Chevrolet Tavera.

By the time the video ends, we still see the man still atop the truck and the truck ain’t slowing down. Now what may have happened in the end and whether the man got down or not is not known, but the whole episode is something that is quite out of logical reasoning. Especially the antic performed by the man is something out of this world.

Whatever the matter maybe but the whole case seen in the video is not acceptable by any means. Driving on the wrong side, forcefully stopping a vehicle and moreover, climbing onto a vehicle are all punishable offences. While the driving and traffic awareness have certainly gown up in India, There is still a lot more that needs to be done in this field. Recently, Gujarat government even recently passed a ruling that any person caught indulging in wrong side driving twice will be banned from driving for a lifetime period. This step, though quite harsh, is a good way to bring the people in check and get them to follow the rules.

Future Tata Safari: What an off-road ready version could look like

$
0
0

Recently, we brought you a render that showed what the next-generation Tata Safari SUV could look like under the  Impact 2.0 design language. Many CarToq readers wanted a more rugged-looking version of the Tata Safari render, with off road chops that give the SUV a butch appearance. CarToq rendering artist Vipin Vathoopan has created an off-road ready version of the next-generation Tata Safari. Here it is.

Safari Offroad 2

As the render reveals, the off-road ready version of the new Tata Safari gets a much taller stance compared to the  road-biased version. It rides on chunky, mud terrain tyres with tall sidewalls. These sidewalls will act as a cushion on bad roads. The tyres are mounted on alloy wheels which have a distinct design that almost makes them look like steel wheels.

The off-road spec SUV also has body cladding along the sides, and bumper inserts at the front and rear. All in all,  this version of the next-gen Tata Safari looks a lot more butch and brawny. If Tata Motors gets around to building  one, it’s quite certain that a four wheel drive layout with low and high ranges would be offered as standard. The SUV  is expected to sit on a lightened, body-on-ladder chassis.

Safari Offroad 1

A seven seat layout is expected to be retained on the next-generation Safari, but with three front facing rows of  seats rather than the current 2+3+2 layout where the last two passengers have to manage with side facing seats. Under the hood, the new SUV is expected to pack a turbocharged diesel engine. Petrol and petrol-hybrid options could also be on the anvil considering the tighter emission norms that will come into force from April 2020.

The Tata Safari is an iconic badge from Tata Motors, and one that is most likely to be retained in future SUVs.  Although Tata Motors is yet to announce a successor to the Safari DICOR or the Safari Storme, 2020 and beyond is when a replacement vehicle will be launched. In the meantime, the automaker is readying up for the launch of the Harrier, which will make its debut on the 23rd of January.

The Tata Harrier will be followed by a 7 seat variant, which is currently code-named H7X. The 7 seat variant of the  Harrier is expected to make its debut by the end of 2019. The 7 seat variant will share its engine with the Harrier  but could get additional power and torque outputs to cope with the higher load it will have to carry. The 7seat  variant will get three rows of front facing seats.

Tata Motors is also working on a Micro SUV, which is expected to be shown as a concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Called the Hornbill, the micro SUV will be pegged under the Nexon in terms of price and positioning. It will challenge the Mahindra KUV100, and is expected to be launched sometime in 2020. The H7X and the Hornbill will be the major SUV launches from Tata Motors, after the Harrier. The next-generation Safari will take longer to launch.

Tata 45X instrument cluster revealed: Seems inspired by the Tata Harrier

$

0

Tata will soon launch the all-new Harrier in the Indian market. The launch will happen on 23rd January but Tata will not stop there. Tata is also working on an all-new Tata 45X, which is likely to be called the Aquila. The 45X has been caught testing on the Indian roads quite a few times and the vehicle is expected to be launched later in 2019.

For the first time, the instrument console of the upcoming vehicle has been leaked and it looks quite inspired by the Tata Harrier’s speedometer console.

45x 2

The new spy picture shows that the Tata 45X gets a coloured digital display alongside an analogue speedometer just like the Tata Harrier. The digital screen looks like a 7-inch screen, just like seen in the Harrier. However, it is slightly different and gets angular edges instead of the rounded off edges of the console available with the Tata Harrier.

The console gets a blue background and similar features like the Harrier. Starting with the navigation turns to the infotainment system notifications, the huge coloured display will show it all. However, it cannot be customised like the high-end vehicles. It is quite possible that Tata is working on it and with some software updates, we would be able to see a customisable coloured LCD that would be able to change the location of the tachometer among other things.

The 45X is expected to be heavily inspired by the 45X concept version that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will be the first-ever premium hatchback from the brand and will take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Tata is expected to keep the production version close to the concept version just like the Nexon and the Harrier. Tata has not revealed any other details about the 45X but it will become the first vehicle to be launched the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) in the market.

45x 1

On the inside, Tata will use the similar floating-type infotainment screen that has been seen in the Harrier and the Nexon. It will get the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Tata will continue to offer top-notch speaker system from either Harman or JBL just like the Tiago, Nexon, Hexa and the Harrier. Other than that, we can expect a 6-airbag system among other safety features in the upcoming premium SUV.

The upcoming 45X would be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine that are also available with the Tata Nexon. Tata is also expected to offer an automatic transmission with the petrol engine of the 45X. Both the engines would get the drive modes that change the power output of the vehicle. Just like all other Tata vehicles, even the 45X is expected to get a very competitive price tag.

We expect the Tata 45X to undercut other premium hatchbacks in its segment – the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. The 45X could do a Tiago in the premium hatchback segment for Tata Motors.

Superbikes Cheap Featured

There are a few things that one should check thoroughly before buying a superbike. As they are still rare and people remain unaware of these bikes, here are a few tips that everyone should know when buying a superbike.

  • Always check for the original papers and insist on getting a receipt.
  • Always check if the full road registration tax has been paid.
  • Check for accidental claims with the insurance
  • If the bike is from another state, it is always better to transfer the registration to the home state.

All-new Maruti WagonR REVEALED completely

$

0

Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new WagonR in the Indian market on 23rd January. This will be the first-ever major update received by the popular tall-boy hatchback since the second-generation model was introduced in 2006. The WagonR has been around in the Indian market for a long time now. It was first introduced in 2000 and has remained one of the top-selling hatchbacks since then.

Wagonr 3

The new spy shots reveal the car completely from inside and outside. The all-new WagonR is based on a modified platform of the existing WagonR and looks nothing like the current version. It has completely new body shell, a new face and a new rear-end. The all-new WagonR gets newly shaped headlamps that get a kink on the sides. The grille has become thinner and is just a chrome stripe with Suzuki logo sitting in the middle. The new WagonR also gets a new sportier bumper with large air dam and two asymmetric fog lamps placed lower in the bumper.

Wagonr 2

At the rear, the all-new WagonR gets tall tail lamps, similar to the Volvo models. The thick C-Pillar of the WagonR gets a black insert that makes it look thinner and gives the roof a floating effect. The design of the Indian WagonR is quite different from the Japanese model which was launched last year. The spy pictures only show steel rim version of the WagonR but the version on sale will come with rim caps.

Wagonr 1

The interiors have been revealed completely too. It gets a plain-jane dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment screen mounted in the centre. There are three knobs placed below the infotainment screen. The steering gets chrome inserts with mounted-controls to control the infotainment and Bluetooth-connected phone.

Wagonr 4

It gets faux buttons on the dashboard on the right-hand side of the steering too. The WagonR also gets a new driver console with a large circular display that makes up for the speedometer and a small LCD information screen for other readings like an odometer, trip meter and so on. The car gets a dual-tone dashboard and the seats are also of the beige colour similar to the dashboard.

The all-new WagonR would comply with the upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assesment Program (BNVSAP) that requires some minimum safety standards for a car on sale in India. It would also get features like a driver-side airbag, ABS+EBD, seatbelt reminder, speed alerts and rear parking sensor as standard across all the variants.

Maruti is not expected to update the engine of the all-new WagonR. It will continue to draw power from the 1.0-litre 3-Cylinder K-Series petrol engine. The engine produces a maximum of 67 Bhp and 90 Nm in the current version and would continue to do so. Maruti will offer manual and AMT automatic transmission with the all-new WagonR.

The chief rivals of the new Maruti WagonR will be the Hyundai Santro and the Tata Tiago. Maruti is likely to price the WagonR close to the Hyundai Santro, which was launched in India just a couple of months ago.

Tata has become aggressive with the product planning and after the launch of the SUVs like Nexon, Hexa and the upcoming Harrier, Tata will launch an all-new micro SUV in the market. It is currently on the development stage and it is internally known as the Hornbill X445. Here is an exclusive render of the car that will be first showcased as a concept model at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that is scheduled to take place in March. The rendering image has been made by CarToq’s artist Vipin Vathoopan.

Tata Hornbill Render 3

The Hornbill will be positioned below the Tata Nexon in the line-up. It will take on the likes of Mahindra KUV 100 and the production versions of the concept Maruti Suzuki Future S. The SUVs are becoming extremely popular in the market and manufacturers are entering new segments to capture the customers.

The Hornbill would get the same Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) underpinnings similar to the upcoming Tata 45X premium hatchback. However, it will be heavily modified to fit the micro SUV and many dimensions like track measurement and wheelbase measurement will be extremely different from the 45X. The design of the Hornbill will be heavily inspired by the IMPACT 2.0 design language. It is the same design language seen in the Harrier and Tata is expected to keep the aggressive design alive with the Hornbill too.

Tata Hornbill Render 1

Just like the Harrier, the Hornbill is expected to get a separate headlamp and Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) positioning. There is a mesh grille at front that extends to become to the bright LED DRLs. Lower in the bumper, the main headlamp unit is placed. The unconventional look gives a new identity to the Hornbill. The Hornbill is also expected to get strong lines on the body with flared wheel arches that will add a muscular look to the vehicle. The rendering image of the vehicle has been designed to attract the new-age buyers and also gets a dual-tone body colour with contrasting roof and pillars.

It will be the second sub-4meter compact SUV from the brand after the Nexon. The Nexon takes on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza while the Hornbill will be placed as an entry-level SUV and will target the young buyers in the market. The Hornbill is expected to be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. The engine options are likely to remain same as the Tata Tiago. The Hornbill is expected to get powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine and a 1.05-litre diesel engine, same as the Tata Tiago. Both the engine options will get the 5-speed manual transmission as standard but Tata may also offer an AMT automatic transmission with the petrol engine option.

After revealing the concept version in March, Tata is expected to launch the production version of the Hornbill at the 2020 Auto Expo scheduled to happen in February 2020. It will be priced very competitively and will also get a host of features including touchscreen infotainment and even segment-leading sound system.

Hyundai Creta is the most popular as well as best selling SUV in its segment. The compact SUV has further helped established Hyundai as the second biggest auto manufacturer in the country. The Creta is also quite popular in the modification circuits and there are various exterior as well as interior mod kits available for the car. On the same note, we today bring you a Hyundai Creta which has its interiors modified in full luxury. In the video below by Rahul Tanwar, the Creta gets a full on Nappa leather treatment which take the interiors to a whole different level. Let’s now take a look into the video to get a better look of the interiors.

As seen in the video, the car gets a full blown leather treatment. The once beige and black interiors are now swathed in a red shade, complimented by the stock black panels. The red shade Nappa leather used for this job can in fact be used on any vehicle and is not vehicle specific. Places where leather has replaced the beige elements include the steering wheel, centre layer of the dashboard, A, B and C pillars along with door pads and handles.

Nonetheless to say, the already good interiors of the Creta now look mesmerizing and a place to be in. The whole leather wrapping work takes some time and the whole dashboard assembly has to be dismantled in order to get the perfect finish. The door panels, pillars and even the centre tunnel covering had to be removed in order to get the job done. However, once done and settled, the result is quite good and worth the effort. One can get such interior treatment for any car in the market. It is, in some ways, quite similar to the exterior wrap jobs which are quite popular these days.

Hyundai Creta Exterior 127803 2

Talking of the car, the Hyundai Creta is offered with three engine options – one petrol and two diesel engines. The single petrol is a four-cylinder 1.6-litre unit that produces 122 Bhp of power @ 6,400 rpm along with 151 Nm of torque @ 4,850 rpm. The smaller diesel engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit that puts out 89 Bhp of power @ 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque @ 1,500 rpm. The larger 1.6-litre turbo diesel unit is the most powerful engine option on offer with the Creta. It produces 126 Bhp of power @ 4,000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque @ 1,500 rpm.

The petrol and the larger 1.6 litre diesel engine come paired to either a manual or an automatic gearbox, both of which offer 6 speeds. However, the smaller 1.4 litre diesel engine is only offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Along with being quite powerful and efficient, the Creta also gets spacious and comfortable interiors which are among the main factor for its success.

Most of the cruise bike owners also modify their bikes according to there taste. On the same note, we today bring you a modified cruiser which in fact is a Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220. In the video below by Solivagant Sarthak, the owner of the bike explains in depth what all changes and customization have been made on the bike. Let’s now take a look into the video before proceeding further.

That is some good work to say the least. What is also noteworthy here is that the key components and the chassis of the bike have not been tampered with. All the modifications done are mostly aesthetic in nature and are done to enhance the long distance cruising capability  of the bike. The bike, along with most of the accessories and attachments, have been finished in white and look striking. Let’s now see in more  detail about all the changes on the bike.

Starting with the front section, the big windshield is attached to protect the rider from wind blasts. Its lower half has been draped in white while the top section has been adorned with various stickers. Then their are matching white knuckle guards to protect the riders hands. The rear section features a set of two panniers which again are done in white. The owner of the bike claims that most of the accessories have been imported. The top box is also quite spacious and also has a metal tray attached on top of it. The seat is also a custom unit which has been built specifically according to the owners requirements.

Avenger Mod

Among the  special features of this bike is a dual speaker music system, which can pump out some groovy beats while on the move. High end cruiser and tourer bike come with such entertainment system which can play music while tearing down the highway. The music system used on the bike is imported from UK according to its owner. A white mobile holder is also in place to help with navigational duties. Then there is custom blue lightning in the engine area which looks quite good at night.

Finer bits include additional integrated tail lights on the panniers and custom long set footrests. The footrests are especially useful during long rides as the rider can stretch their legs without having to stop the bike. This modified Avenger Cruise 220 is a perfect example of how a bike can be customized according to personal taste and without going for over the top modifications. The white beauty here then gets a thumbs up from us.

BSA, short form for Birmingham Small Arms Company was a major British company which manufactured various things. The company’s products ranged from motorcycles and cars to firearms. BSA motorcycle are still considered to be one of the most well made bikes that have stood the test of time quite bravely.

Today, we have brought you a video by ncr motorcycles which shows a BSA BB31 motorcycle from 1947 start up. Without wasting another moment then, let’s checkout how the bike held up after all these years.

Even after all these years of ordeal, one has to say that the engine threw a lovely note out of that exhaust. Though the bike needed a lot of work before starting up, a nearly 71 years old bike starting up is no small feat. Excellent engineering and good quality standards are among the factors which have enabled the bike to stand the test of time. The bike was made after the second world war and in the same year in which our country got its Independence.

To be particular, the motorcycle featured in the video, as already mentioned, is a BSA BB31. It is a 1947 model and comes under the B-series by the company. The B-series also incorporates other famous motorcycles like the BSA Goldstar. The BB31, or originally the B31 was first introduced in 1945. It was the first motorcycle model introduced by the company after the Second World War ended. It was based on pre-war designs, and used a 348 cc single cylinder four stroke engine. The engine produced around 17 Bhp of power and the bike had a rigid frame and telescopic forks, which itself was a first for BSA.

Bsa

The bike had a top speed of about 110 km/h. The BB31 model we see here came two years later in 1947 and featured stiffer suspension setup. There was also a 500 cc version of the bike. The BB31 was a fairly good bike of its time and featured the typical design language of the pre war automotive scene. The current trend of retro-modern bikes incorporate a similar design language. Big round headlamps, low slung seats big tires and the typical fuel tank design are some of the elements that define the classic design now.

However, since the bike had not been started since a long time, it needed a great deal of work on it. Therefore, in the video wee see that the bike is diagnosed in a proper way and all the repairs/alterations are done on it. After the whole mechanical setup is back in place, the bike is kickstarted. After about 2-3 unsuccessful attempts, the bike roars back to life. The exhaust note is quite good even by today’s standards. The whole bike is then given an aesthetic makeover and tuned into a gleaming new vintage bike.

Maruti Baleno’s UV cut glass to Toyota Innova Crysta’s ‘cool start’: 10 cleverest features on affordable cars

$
0
0

Apart from mileage and space, car buyers usually are also on a lookout for a car that is feature rich. Auto manufacturers too are now bringing in cars that are equipped with new and class leading features. However, there are many cool and nifty features that do not gain the centre stage while promotions and marketing of a car.

These clever features are either accidentally discovered by the users or gain popularity by word of mouth. However, if one goes through the driver manual, there are many such features to be found. Or go through this list, where we bring you 10 cool and clever features that are present on affordable cars.

Curve Guidance

Hyundai Curve Guidance

This is a very useful and usually unknown feature on some of the Hyundai cars like the Verna and the Creta. When activated, what it does is to give “curve ahead” audible warning to the driver when approaching a curve on the road. It is of great help as it let’s the driver know in advance that there is a curve/bend ahead so that he can be prepared for it. Especially, in mountainous roads, foggy conditions and unknown roads, it acts as a boon. Also, the curve guidance feature also works when you are not using the onboard navigation system.

Walk Away lock

Walk Away Lock

The walk away lock is among the most useful features found in some of the modern cars like the Renault Captur. As apparent by the name itself, the car automatically locks itself even if you forget to lock it and walk away from it. You should be having the keys in your pocket when you are going away from the car for this feature to work.

Emergency Assistance System

This one is among the better safety feature not usually known by the masses. Cars like the Ford Ecosport come with the Emergency Assist System which automatically calls emergency services if the onboard system senses that the car is involved in an accident. It works when your phone is connected to SYNC multimedia system. It is especially useful if the car gets in a mishap on a lonely road.

UV Cut glasses

Uv Cut Glasses

UV cut Glasses, as the name suggests, are special kind of window glasses that are basically factory-fitted tinted glasses. Maruti has equipped the Baleno hatchback with them and this feature is a boon in our hot temperatures. Now since tinted films are banned for use, they are quite  a useful feature and a good initiative by the company.

Taillights acts as indicators if turn signal bulb is blown

Volkswagen cars like the Vento and Polo along with some other cars like the Fiat Punto come with this unique feature. What happens is that if there is an issue with the turn signals like if they get blown or accidentally broken, the tail lights double up as indicators. This is quite a common sight in India as indicators on many cars stop working. A blinking tail light then let’s other road users to know that the car is going to change direction. Pretty impressive.

1 press roll up or roll down windows

Roll Up Window

It is a common case that we leave the windows open after locking the car. Instead of unlocking the car and rolling the windows, cars like Volkswagen Ameo and Maruti Suzuki Baleno come with a feature where long pressing the lock button on the key will roll up the windows. Similarly, long press the unlock button to roll down the windows. Quite a simple yet extremely useful feature.

Cool Start

The Toyota Innova Crysta comes with a unique feature, not usually found in any other car. On starting the AC of the car, the system will start blowing air only when the air gets cool enough. Called the cool start, it saves the pain of getting hot air on your face on a hot day. The systems waits for a few seconds until the air gets cooled and then lets the AC work. Simple, yet brilliant we say.

Double Crank protection

Now since more and more cars are coming with push button starts, this feature is not that common. However, cars like Volkswagen Vento, Fiat Punto among others still come with a feature that prevents double cranking of the engine. It is common to see people double cranking their cars unknowingly due to the better NVH insulation now.

Voice amplification

Kodiaq Lk

Skoda has equipped the Kodiaq with a special and unique Voice enhancement feature. This feature enables the driver and the co-passengers to communicate with each other easily. The built in microphones pick up your and passengers voice and relay through the speakers so you can all converse and hear easily, irrespective of road noise etc.

Automatic Hazard Warning Lights

Ford Figo and Volkswagen Vento are equipped with this intelligent feature that turns on the hazard light in the case of panic braking. It lets other people at the back know of the same, preventing a possible mishap. This is one feature that we suggest all auto companies to take note of and include in their cars.

Mahindra TUV300 SUV is now a police car in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh police force has inducted 242 Mahindra TUV300 compact SUVs into its fleet. These SUVs will be used mainly for patrolling duties in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu flagged off the customized Mahindra TUV300s from IGM Stadium, Vijayawada. The SUVs have Andhra police decals on them, apart from other equipment such as sirens and beacons – stuff that’s essential in a police car.

Mahindra Tuv300 Andhra Police

Mechnically, the Mahindra TUV300s supplied to the Andhra Police are similar to the ones that are sold to private  buyers. Mahindra has supplied the 100 PS version of the TUV300 to the Andhra police. This variant uses the 1.5  liter 3 cylinder twin scroll turbocharger equipped diesel engine with 98.6 Bhp of peak power and 240 Nm of peak  torque. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. A rear wheel drive layout is also standard.

Mahindra also offers this engine with a 5 speed AMT option for private buyers. However, the police fleet of Andhra  Pradesh has opted for the manual gearbox equipped variants of the TUV300. The TUV300 gets twin airbags and ABS, and is also among the first SUVs in India to be ready for the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP). What this also means is the compact SUV is a safe vehicle.

The Mahindra Bolero has been in police car fleets around India for a while, and it’s only fitting that the TUV300 is  replacing it in many parts of the country. Like the Mahindra Bolero, the TUV300 gets a rugged, ladder frame chassis  but is much more refined. It rides better and has better interiors, and also offers safety features, which are still  missing on the Bolero.

Mahindra is working on a facelifted version of the TUV300, which is expected to be launched next year. Test mules of the same have been spotted multiple times, and it’s just a matter of time before the facelifted SUV hits the market.  Also, there’s a longer, higher capacity version of the TUV300 on sale in the Indian market. Called the TUV300 Plus, seating upto 9 adults is offered on the longer version.

Apart from a longer body, the TUV300 Plus also features a much more powerful engine borrowed from the Mahindra  Scorpio. The motor in question is a 2.2 liter mHawk turbocharged diesel with 120 Bhp of peak power and 280 Nm of peak torque. The additional capacity, power and torque makes the TUV300 Plus quite sprightly. Prices of the TUV300 Plus are also significantly higher than the TUV300.

While the Mahindra TUV300’s average ex-showroom prices start from Rs. 8.37 lakhs, those of the TUV300 Plus start from Rs. 9.74 lakhs. While the TUV300 is positioned as a compact SUV, the TUV300 Plus is pitched as a MUV, and is aimed mainly at the cab operator segment. Both vehicles are rear wheel driven and Mahindra has no plans to offer a four wheel drive layout on either of them.

Mahindra Thar 4X4 rescues bus stuck in desert [Video]

There’s no doubt that the Mahindra Thar 4X4 is one of India’s most affordable go anywhere vehicle. While the Thar CRDe 4X4 is built as lifestyle vehicle that can be used for off-roading, the SUV has been used for a lot of other things. Here’s one such instance of the Thar 4X4 going beyond the limit that it was designed for. This example here just rescued a tourist bus stuck in the desert sand near Longewala post, Rajasthan.

Watch the video below for all the action.

As the video reveals, the Mahindra Thar CRDe 4X4 tried to pull out the tourist bus using a tow strap. The Mahindra Thar CRDe 4X4 driver gets the bus moving but there’s not enough grip for the bus to be fully retrieved out of the sand. The passengers of the bus come in handy, and give the bus a push while the Thar driver simultaneously pulls the bus ahead. This concerted effort of machine and man power finally frees the bus from the sand.

All in all, the rescue effort demonstrates the torque multiplication factor of a 4X4 transfer case equipped with a low ratio. The Mahindra Thar CRDe 4X4 is equipped with a 2.5 liter turbocharged diesel engine that puts out 105 Bhp-247 Nm. In 4X4 low range, the transfer case multiplies the torque by 2.2 times. This effectively gives the Thar CRDe a torque rating of about 550 Nm in 4X4 low range. It’s this torque that allows the off-roader to pull such a heavy object like the bus, which is many times heavier than the SUV.

The Thar CRDe 4X4 is priced at Rs. 9.37 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. There’s a rural-focused Thar DI variant that’s also on sale. Prices of the Thar DI start from Rs. 6.53 lakhs for the 4X2 variant, and Rs. 7.06 lakhs for the 4X4 variant. The Thar DI variant is powered by a 2.5 liter M2DICR engine that makes 63 Bhp-180 Nm. A 5 speed manual gearbox is offered with all variants of the Thar.

Thar Bus Rescue Featured 2

This said, it must be noted that such rescue attempts can be carried out by the Thar for a brief period of time. The vehicle is not designed to tow large vehicles such as the bus, and such towing can break mechanical parts of the Thar. At best, the Mahindra Thar can be used to rescue a vehicle for a short distance of a few meters, such as the bus rescue in the video above. It’s important to not overestimate the capability of a 4X4 vehicle for the good of both the driver as well as the machine.

There’s another important thing to remember while winching or rescuing a stuck vehicle. People must always be far away from the winching cable/towing strap. Also, a heavy blanket needs to be placed on the winching cable/towing strap. This is to ensure that the cable/strap falls to the ground in case it snaps. If there’s no heavy blanket on the cable, the sheer energy created while snapping can swing the cable/strap towards any direction. And there have been instances of this cable/strap seriously injuring or even killing onlookers. In some cases, even the drivers of the towing/towed vehicles have been injured seriously due to a snapping winch cable/tow strap.

Classic Legends, the company that has brought back the Jawa brand into India, has some ambitious targets for the  first year of sales. Classic Legends wants to sell no less than 7,500 Jawa 42 and Classic motorcycles in India each  month in the first year of operations. The first deliveries of the Jawa 42 and Classic will begin from March this year. The dual channel ABS equipped Jawa 42 and Classic models will start shipping from July 2019.

Jawa11

From the sales estimates given out by Classic Legends, it’s clear that the company has Royal Enfield’s Classic 500  and Bullet 500 retro motorcycles in sight. In fact, the new Jawa motorcycles aim at outselling the Classic 500 and  Bullet 500 range, which together account for much lesser than 7,500 monthly units. However, the Classic 350 and  Bullet 350, which are Royal Enfield’s bread and butter motorcycles – are expected to be much ahead – with combined  monthly sales numbers of over 40,000 units.

The Jawa 42 and Classic have 293cc four stroke engines that are much more technologically advanced and also equally powerful when compared to the 500cc four stroke engines that are found on the Royal Enfield Classic 50  and Bullet 500. Also, both the Jawa 42 and Classic are much cheaper than the Royal Enfield Classic 500s. It’s this combination of fresh retro looks, high performance and value-for-money price tags that Classic Legends will be banking on to bring in the big numbers for the Jawa range of retro motorcycles.

The 293cc, Mahindra Mojo derived single cylinder engines that power the Jawa 42 and Classic make 27 Bhp of peak power and 28 Nm of peak torque. 6 speed manual gearboxes are standard. The engine is a short stroke unit, with liquid cooling, fuel injection and a four valve head driven by double overhead camshafts. The high revving unit has been optimized to have strong low end torque, and an international engine designer has also worked on the exhaust note of this motor.

In contrast, the 499cc single cylinder engine that powers the Royal Enfield Classic 500 and Bullet 500 is an old-  school, low revving unit. The engine makes 27.2 Bhp-41.3 Nm, and strong low end torque is its forte. The motor uses hydraulic tappet, is air cooled and fuel injected, and gets a two valve head. A five speed manual gearbox is  standard, and all Royal Enfield 500cc motorcycles are now available with dual channel ABS as standard. Ex-showroom prices of the Classic 500 range start from Rs. 1.87 lakhs.

Later this year, Jawa will debut the Perak – a bobber style retro motorcycle that will complete the Jawa range for  the foreseeable future. The Perak will use a 332cc, big bore engine with 31 Bhp-32 Nm outputs. The gearbox will remain the same though, and dual channel ABS will be offered as standard right from the outset. Until July 2019, when the first dual channel ABS equipped Jawa 42 and Classic roll out, the motorcycles will be sold with single channel  ABS units. Classic Legends has closed bookings for the Jawa thanks to an overwhelming response for both motorcycles.

India is the world’s largest two-wheeler market. Every month lakhs of two-wheelers are added to the road and most of them belong to the commuter segment. What does it feels like riding an expensive cruiser bike through the crowded roads of Mumbai? Youtube channel Shariq V tells you just that.

What is it about?

The bike seen in the video is the Avantura Rudra, which is a stock bike and not a modified example. The manufacturer offers two bikes in the Indian market and both of them were showcased at the 2017 India Bike Week. The bikes are made in Vasai, near Mumbai and are the first India-made true chopper bikes.

The Rudra that was being ridden by the YouTuber is one of the longest bikes in India. It gets a length of 2,908mm and a whopping wheelbase of 2,180mm. It is made for Indian roads and the ground clearance is set at a good 150mm. The Rudra rides on a huge 23-inch front wheel and a 20-inch rear wheel. It gets 130/60 section front tyre and a 280/40 section at the rear.

The rider can has made the video through his helmet-mounted camera and cameras given to the other people. The bike can be seen getting extreme attention on the road. There were many who stopped and clicked the Avantura Rudra and when the bike stopped at a traffic signal, everyone around the bike went crazy to get a glimpse of the bike and clicked the bike.

The Avantura Rudra is priced at Rs. 23.9 lakhs, ex-showroom, Mumbai which would turn out to be around Rs. 25 lakhs on road. The Rudra is powered by V-Twin, 2,000cc engine built by American custom engine specialist S&S. The engine develops around 100 Bhp and around 215 Nm of torque. The engine can be tuned as per the need of the manufacturer and custom bike maker.

The manual transmission comes from the specialised transmission maker River. It is a 5-speed manual transmission. As per the manufacturer, each and every part of the bike comes from different high-end parts maker around the world. The brakes of the bike come from Beringer and turn signals are sourced from Kellerman. The suspension comes from Progressive. All the parts come from high-end motorcycle manufacturers that supply parts to customised bike makers around the world. Avantura also offers Pravega, which is slightly shorter in size than the Rudra but uses the same engine. It is priced lower at Rs. 21.4 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi.

Avantura Featured

Avantura plans to sell around 200 bikes each year. It is not clear if Avantura bikes have received the ARAI certification, which is mandatory to sell any vehicle in India. The bike shown in the video gets a temporary registration number. None of the vehicles can be registered if it is not cleared by ARAI. They sure are extremely good looking bikes but riding them in the crowded roads can be a pain. The rider only rides on open roads during the course of the video but taking it to the thick traffic can be troublesome.
