Maruti Suzuki Ignis, which is the entry-level Nexa car from the brand is quite popular in India. Maruti Suzuki first launched the Ignis in January 2017 and since then, the manufacturer has sold 1 lakh units of the car in the market. Maruti Suzuki launched a refreshed version of the Ignis earlier this year and discontinued the diesel variants of the car too.

2019 Ignis

The entry-level Ignis was initially available with both petrol and diesel engine options. It became the first car from the brand to offer AMT Automatic transmission with both petrol and diesel engine options. However, with time, the popularity of the diesel variants went down and with Maruti Suzuki’s plan to discontinue all the diesel-powered variants of the models from April 2020, the Ignis diesel was culled.

Nonetheless, the Ignis is still a strong seller in the Indian market with a monthly averaging around 2,500 units per month. Last month, Maruti Suzuki dispatched 3,156 units of the Ignis in the market. The Ignis has remained a steady seller in the market and with its young and aspiring looks, it sure attracts a lot of attention on the road.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is currently available only with the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine. The four-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum power of 82 Bhp at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 113 Nm at 4,200 rpm. It gets a choice between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission.

The tall-design of the Ignis makes it very recognisable on the roads. It gets large headlamps with integrated LED DRL. It headlamps are positioned in a way that they look like a part of the front grille design. The Ignis gets flared wheel arches that add a crossover look to it and it also gets a high ground clearance of 180mm, which is quite high in its segment.

The Ignis is available in seven variants starting from Sigma that is priced at Rs 5.4 lakh while the top-end Alpha AGS is priced at Rs 7.14 lakh. Apart from the base Sigma variant, all the other variants of the Ignis offer the AMT automatic transmission. It is available in 9 colour options and 3 of them are dual-tone options that really add a character to the vehicle. The Ignis is available in Nexa Blue, Glistening Grey, Silky Silver, Pearl Arctic White, Tinsel Blue and Uptown Red, Tinsel Blue with Peak Arctic White, Tinsel Blue with Midnight Black and Uptown Red with Midnight Black colours. Maruti Suzuki also offers a range of customisation options with the Ignis that can be added at the dealer level. Tata Harrier has become extremely popular in the Indian market. The all-new car was launched in January 2019 and Tata has been accepting the bookings for the Harrier since the end of 2018. Tata offered the scale model of the Harrier to the first 1,000 customers. Well, here is a chance to grab the scale models of the Harrier again.

Tata Harrier is the official partner of the Indian Premier League and if you follow the matches, you will notice a Harrier parked outside the boundary in every single game. Well, there is a contest for the players of IPL for the best striker of the game. The batsman who has the best strike rate by the end of the tournament will win a brand new Tata Harrier. For the viewers, Tata has officially opened a contest, which can make you win a scale model of the SUV.

In a new video released by Tata Motors, the current best striker of the Indian Premier League – Andre Russell can be seen driving the Harrier and getting off the vehicle. He then opens the rear boot of the vehicle that contains numerous scale models stacked up against each other. Andre Russell can be seen picking up a scale model and putting his autograph on it.

Well, to win this scale model, Tata says that you will have to answer the question “Which IPL star should Andre Russel go on a drive with and why?” The wackiest answers to the question will win an autographed Tata Harrier scale model by the West Indian batsman – Andre Russell. The contest is closing tonight and the rules can be read on the Tata’s official Facebook page.

Andre Russell Harrier

The Tata Harrier has gained quite an attention after its launch in the market, especially because of its all-new attractive design and value-for-money price tag. The Tata Harrier is the first affordable car in the Indian market to offer the split headlamp design. Soon many other manufacturers will follow the same design language in the Indian market. The Harrier looks extremely eye-catchy with its IMPACT 2.0 design language and the starting price of Rs 12.69 lakh makes it a very good deal.

Harrier is currently powered only by a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It generates a maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. It gets a 6-speed transmission as standard but there is no automatic transmission available with the car. However, Tata may soon launch a 6-speed automatic with the Harrier. Soon, the Harrier will be joined by the Buzzard, which is the 7-seater version of the Harrier and was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. Tata is also expected to launch a 4WD version of the Harrier if demand rises for it in the market.

Ford Figo, Aspire, Freestyle, EcoSport & Endeavour to continue with diesel engines even after April 2020

Ford India has just announced that its cars sold in India – the Figo hatchback, the Freestyle crossover, the Aspire  compact sedan, the EcoSport compact SUV and the Endeavour luxury SUV – will continue to be powered by diesel engines even after the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms kick in from April 2020. What this essentially means is that Ford would make its three diesel engines – the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder TDCI, the 2.2 liter-4 cylinder TDCI and the 3.2  liter-5 cylinder TDCI units – compliant with Bharat Stage 6 norms. The American automaker is confident of meeting the much tighter emission norms.

Ford India’s Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Vinay Raina, had this to say about the automaker’s  plans to meet the BS6 norms,

We will continue to offer the power of choice to consumers and will not stop diesel models. Ford will also be fully  ready with its range of BS-VI compliant diesel powertrains ahead of April 2020 implementation. This shows the  company’s commitment in offering what consumers want. For instance – Over 65 percent of the consumers today buy EcoSport diesel variants compared to petrol. Despite government lifting subsidies on diesel over the years, we have seen the demand for diesel stay and expect the same to continue in 2020 and beyond. Ford has launched its first CNG vehicle (Aspire) to support any possible shift from diesel in the time to come. Ford – with the introduction of EcoSport in 2013 – was among the first to bring petrol engines into the consideration set of UV buyers. To complement the diesel technology, we will continue to deepen the portfolio of petrol engines and offer more BS-VI compliant petrol engines options to our consumers.

1ford Ecosport Long Term Experience

So, that should make both current and future buyers of the Ford Figo, Freestyle, Aspire, EcoSport and Endeavour  breathe easy as the diesel versions of these cars are here to stay for a few more at least. Ford is also preparing  for a future without diesel engines if the market situation so demands. The automaker has already introduced the  CNG Petrol option on the Aspire compact sedan. Going forward, expect more Ford cars such as the Figo, Freestyle and EcoSport to be made available with the CNG dual fuel option.

Also, Ford is likely to offer electric powertrains in its cars as it has a tie-up with Mahindra for the same.  Mahindra will supply the electric powertrains to Ford while the latter will supply its cars to the Indian automaker. The Figo and Aspire will be two cars that Mahindra plans to electrify. The electric variants of the Figo and Aspire would be sold with both Ford and Mahindra badges.

Upcoming Renault Kwid spied in India before launch

Renault is working to launch the facelifted Kwid in the Indian market and the car has been caught testing on the Indian roads for the first time. The spy pictures of the heavily camouflaged upcoming Kwid reveals a lot of design details of the car. Even though it will be only a facelift and not a full model change, the changes in the car are drastic. The new Kwid was spotted testing in Maharashtra and will be launched in the market later this year.

Kwid 2

The pictures posted on the BikeAdvice show that the front-end design of the upcoming Kwid has been updated completely. It now gets a split headlamp set-up, which is becoming the latest design trend in the automotive world. The front-end of the upcoming Renault Kwid facelift looks inspired by the Renault K-ZE City, which is the EV version of the Kwid and will go on sale in China soon.

Kwid 1

The glimpses of the test mule’s headlamps indicate that the vehicle will get a similar set-up like the K-ZE. It is likely to get separate housings for the headlamps and the DRLs, which will add an aggressive look to the vehicle. The upcoming Kwid is also expected to get a new grille and the LED DRLs will form the body-wide extension of the vehicle. The main headlamp cluster is positioned way below in the bumper, which will add a very aggressive look to the hatchback.

The Renault Kwid revolutionalised the design in the segment when it was the first launch in India and it is likely to repeat the history again. The brute SUV-inspired look of the Kwid made it extremely popular initially but due to the stiff competition in the market, the popularity of the Kwid has come down at the moment. The new model can definitely change that for Renault. The French manufacturer is planning to double its sales in the Indian market in the coming years and to achieve the feat, they have planned to launch a number of vehicles in the market that includes the Kwid and facelifted Duster. Renault will also launch the Kwid-based MPV that will get the name – Triber.

Kwid 4

The Renault Kwid facelift will get an updated cabin too but the details about the interiors are not known yet. However, it is likely to get a new infotainment system with an updated dashboard to make the vehicle look fresh. Renault will continue to use the same 800cc and 1.0-litre engine options in the facelifted version of the Kwid but when the BS-VI emission norms are in place, the engines are likely to get updated accordingly. It will also continue to offer the 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross “Safir” looks smashing: Is a super ‘limited edition’ pick up truck!

$

0

Almost every Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pick up sold is customized in one way or the other by buyers. Isuzu has now taken it upon itself to come up with an arresting, modified D-Max V-Cross. It’s called the ‘Safir’ and only 10 units will be sold. Nope, India will not get this pick up truck and all 10 of the customized ‘Safir’ V-Cross’ will be sold in the  United Kingdom. It’s priced at 33,000 GBP, which is about Rs. 33 lakhs in Indian money. However, most of the changes on the Safir can be replicated through the after market route, at probably a much cheaper price, if that’s some solace. We’ll give you a lowdown on what the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross ‘Safir’ is all about.

Isuzu V Cross Safir 1

As the pictures clearly reveal, the V-Cross ‘Safir’ is a lifted pick up truck. Isuzu has given it about 2 inches of  lift, and this is the single biggest modification that changes the entire stance of the vehicle. The tyres are on-off  road units shod on 17 inch alloy wheels. The alloy wheels, tyres and the lift come together to make the V-Cross look mean and menacing, even when standing still.

Each of the 10 pick-up trucks get a Sapphire Blue Mica paint finish,  which adds to the overall look, making these vehicles look all gleamy and premium. Other changes on the outside  include LED daytime running lights on the front bumper, and a light bar mounted high-up, on the roof. Silver rear sports bar and a silver Mountain Top roller cover complete the changes on the outside.

Isuzu V Cross Safir 2

On the inside, Isuzu has raised the luxury quotient a few notches. The seats are finished in bespoke leather and give  the look and feel of an expensive sportscar. The Sapphire Blue contrast stitch makes it to the seats as well. The  steering wheel is a D-shaped unit – another sporty touch – and gets a leather and suede finish.

The infotainment  system also gets a big upgrade in the form of a 9 inch, touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto  smartphone connectivity options. There are 9 speakers, a sub-woofer and an HDMI port to take care of entertainment needs. The modification job on the interiors are wrapped up with a wireless charger, and a front camera that shows the driver the position of objects ahead of the bumper.

Isuzu V Cross Safir 3

Under the hood, there’s the new 1.9 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine on offer, with 160 Bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed automatic gearbox is offered with this engine while a four wheel drive transfer case with low and high ratios are standard.

Notably, this engine will also be offered on the India-spec V Cross in a while from now. The facelifted version of the V-Cross is nearly ready for launch in India. The 1.9 liter diesel is also expected to be available with a 6 speed manual gearbox. Also, this motor will be made Bharat Stage 6 (BS6)  emission norms compliant next year.

5 ways the all-new, 2020 Hyundai Creta could look like

$

Hyundai Creta, the best-selling vehicle in the segment will soon get an all-new version in the Indian market. The next-generation Hyundai Creta will look much different from the current version of the vehicle and will also grow in size. In fact, the all-new Creta in India will offer 7-seats and will grow substantially in size. But what will it look like? Here are five ways including speculative renders that indicates what the second-generation Creta will look like.

The Venue look

Creta 1

The Hyundai Venue is the latest SUV from the Korean manufacturer and follows the newest design of the brand. Since the Creta will be placed just above the Venue in the Hyundai line-up, it is quite possible that the all-new second-generation Creta’s look will be inspired by the Venue SUV. Here is a rendering by Kleber Silva that shows what the Creta inspired by Venue will look like in real life. It gets similar split headlamp set-up with the sleek turn indicators placed just below the bonnet lid while the main headlamps will be placed down below. It also gets square DRL surrounding the headlamp cluster just like the Venue.

The Kona look

Creta 2 2

Hyundai will also bring the all-new SUV Kona in India. Since the all-new Creta will be designed as an all-new product, it is likely that the premium Kona SUV will inspire the look of the upcoming Creta. The rendered image that is shown here takes design cues from the Hyundai Kona and gets a sleek body design. The split headlamp set-up in this vehicle works differently as the sleek lamps placed above act as the DRL and the cluster below work as the headlamp.

Creta 2 1

The long version

Creta 3

This is actually how the all-new Creta might look in the long-wheelbase version when it is launched. Since the Indian-spec Creta will offer three-row seating, it will be longer in length and this rendered image captures that perfectly. The front-end of the vehicle is inspired completely by the new Santa Fe SUV and gets the split headlamp set-up. It also gets a body-wide silver strip in the front that underlines both the headlamps and runs across the front of the Creta.

Hyundai ix25 look

2020 Hyundia Creta 1

Since Hyundai sells the Creta as ix25 in the Chinese market and the current version of the vehicle is quite similar to the ix25 in China, the all-new Creta can follow similar design language. Hyundai officially showcased the next-generation Creta in China and it looks quite radical. The front-end gets a split headlamp set-up but the front DRLs are extremely sleek and are not connected to the grille, which makes them look odd. Also, all LED headlamp cluster positioned below does not look great. There is a third front fog lamp cluster at the front and the SUV feels very animated in looks.

Hyundai ix25-inspired

Creta 5 1

But what if Hyundai India takes inspiration from the ix25 and does not bring an identical copy to the Indian market. Well, if that’s the case then it may look like this rendered image that is based on the ix25. It gets broader DRL at the front and a toned down version of the headlamps when compared to the ix25. Even the rear of the vehicle looks sophisticated when compared to the all-new ix25.

Honda to debut the new Jazz by 2019 end: India LAUNCH in 2020

Honda will unveil the new Honda Jazz by the end of this year globally. This model will also be brought in India but that will happen only by 2020. As for the unveiling, it is expected to happen at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The new Jazz will be larger in size and will come with a host of changes and upgrades both on the exterior as well as the interior front. The front end will sport projector headlamps with LED DRLs and the design will look more like the Amaze and city sold in India. The new Jazz will be the third generation model and is also known as the Fit in several international markets.

New Honda Jazz Render

Apart from the exterior design changes, the major change will be the car’s dimensions. The overall length of the new Jazz will be 3,990mm in length, which makes it 35 mm longer than the current model sold in India. The width of the new generation Jazz will also grow which will allow for better shoulder room inside the car.  The car looks bigger from the rear when compared to the ongoing model of the car in the spy shots that have surfaced so far. The boot space is also expected to grow which will make it more practical in the segment.

Talking about the interiors of the car, the Jazz will come equipped with a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, redesigned instrument cluster and a new steering wheel with controls along with other changes. The interiors have always been a strong point of the Jazz and the new model will further take up the level of ambience and comfort. The upholstery and colour scheme will also be changed so as to give a refreshed look to the interiors.

New Honda Jazz Rear

Talking about the engines, Honda could bring the two-motor hybrid setup to India, though nothing is confirmed as of now. The current i-VTEC and i-DTEC engines will continue to power the car along with a new 1.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged motor. When launched here in 2020, the new Honda Jazz will rival the like of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the upcoming Tata Altroz. The Altroz will provide it with stiff competition as Tata has equipped the car with quite a lot of goodies and will launch it during the festive season this year.

Apart from the Jazz, Honda will also launch the new BR-V in India in the coming time. The car was recently showcased at the Indonesia International Motor Show. Honda has planned to launch a total of 6 vehicles in India by the end of 2020 which will include the likes of the Jazz, BR-V and the new generation City among others.

Mahindra pulls the plug on e20 Plus EV: New EVs in pipeline

Mahindra has reportedly stopped the production of the e20 Plus electric hatchback, which was among the most popular EVs in India. The move is in lieu of the company’s future EV policy, which will see the launch of the XUV300 EV and the e-KUV100 among others in the coming time. Made by the electric vehicle arm of Mahindra (Mahindra Electric Mobility), the e20 Plus has been discontinued for the domestic market and the same has been confirmed by Mahesh Babu, chief executive at Mahindra Electric. The two-door version of the e20 Plus, called the e20 sans plus, was a two-door car that was discontinued back in 2016 and with this move, the e20 range has been put out of production completely.

Mahindra E20 Plus

However, they will still be on sale in other markets like Nepal as the discontinuation move has been only done for the domestic markets. According to the report claiming the discontinuation move was done amid flagging sales and tightening safety regulations. The last unit of the e20 Plus rolled out of the production line on the 31st of March. The e20 and the e20 Plus were based on the modified Reva platform. To let you know, the Reva was the first EV to be made available for sale in India. The Reva and later the Reva i laid the foundation stone for the future of EVs in India. They were sold under the name of G-Wiz in the United Kingdom too.

The Reva Electric Car Company later came under the umbrella of Mahindra’s electric division when it bought the controlling stakes in the company. This was then followed by the launch of the e20 and later on the e20 Plus, which offered better performance, looks and practicality than the previous Reva cars on which they were based. The popular perception, though, is still that the e20 was the first electric car of India.

Talking about the future plans of Mahindra’s EV program, the company will launch the e-KUV100 by the third quarter of this year. The new e-KUV100 will use a 30 kW electric motor which will draw power from a Lithium-ion battery pack. As for the range, it is expected to have a range of 140 Km. Further, the car is likely to offer the fast charging as an option which will allow charging 80 per cent of the battery capacity in less than an hour. The next EV from the company will be the XUV300 electric, which will be launched next year.

Both of these will rival a host of upcoming EVs in India, including the likes of the Tata Altroz EV, Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV and the Hyundai Kona EV among others. The government, as well as the manufacturers, are looking forward towards moving in the direction of cleaner vehicles and the EVs are crucial in that.

Okinawa i-Praise, Ridge+ get FAME subsidy; Still expensive than Activa 125

$
0
0

To give a push to the sales of electric vehicles in India, the government of India has introduced the FAME-II plan. It is an improved version of the original FAME project and customers who buy electric vehicles receive subsidies depending on the type of vehicle and battery capacity. Okinawa, which offers a range of electric scooters in India has become the first two-wheeler brand to offer the FAME-II subsidies to the customers.

Okinawa I Praise 1

With the new subsidies in place, two Okinawa scooters now get up to Rs 26,000 subsidies. Okinawa i-Praise gets Rs 17,000 subsidy while the Okinawa Ridge+ gets a subsidy of Rs 26,000. The difference in the subsidies is because of the capacity of the battery powering both the scooters. Vehicles with larger battery get more subsidies while smaller capacity battery powered vehicles get lower subsidies.

Mr Jeetender Sharma, Founder & Managing Director, Okinawa Autotech Pvt. Ltd. said,

With eligibility under Fame-II, our customers will be able to enjoy standard subsidy depending upon the model battery kwh. For Okinawa Ridge+ & i-Praise the subsidy would be between Rs 17000 – Rs 26000 based on KWH. We are confident that this will motivate more environmentally conscious customers to become a part of the Okinawa family to enjoy not only the benefits of e-scooters but also the advanced features offered in the Okinawa range.”

The ex-showroom price of the Okinawa Ridge+ with GPS is Rs 79,290 including the subsidy of Rs 17,000, which keeps it more expensive than the Honda Activa 125 disc brake variant, which gets a price tag of Rs 64,838, ex-showroom. The Okinawa i-Praise gets an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,14,920 after the subsidy of Rs 26,000. Even though it is not cheaper than the Activa, it sure is cheaper to operate and maintain than any of the petrol-powered scooters. There are various other benefits under the FAME-II scheme including free parking spots and toll-free journeys on the highways.

Okinawa Ridge Plus

The Okinawa I-Praise is powered by BLDC waterproof 2500 watt, 72V motor. It can do a maximum of 180 km per charge and comes with a detachable 2.9 kwh lithium-ion battery. To make the charging convenient, the battery can be taken out and charged and then it can be re-fitted to the scooter. It can charge completely in 2-3 hours and also gets a regenerative braking system that charges the battery whenever the brakes are used. The I-Praise comes with an integrated GPS system that can be used to geo-fence the scooter, live tracking, battery information, speed alert and get driver score.

The Okinawa Ridge+ is also a GPS-enabled, cloud-connected scooter. It gets a 1200watt BLDC waterproof motor that can reach a top speed of 55 km/h. The scooter gets 1.75 kwh Lithium-ion battery, which is also detachable and can be taken out. Even this battery takes about 2-3 hours to charge completely and it can be connected to a smartphone to get vital statistics too.

  5. Webasto H700 Inbuilt Automatic Sunroof Rs.1,70,000

As seen above, the base model is the H100 Manual Pop Up Sunroof which is available for Rs. 22,000 while the top model here is the H700 Inbuilt Automatic Sunroof available for Rs.1,70,000. As evident by its name, the base H100 Manual Pop Up sunroof is a pop-up type unit which is operated manually. Basically, it lets you have a sunroof on your car for cheap but it can’t be opened fully and has to be operated manually. However, it does lend a new feel to the interiors and let’s fresh air inside the car without opening the windows.

Thar Sunroof

The second and third models are more or less the same in function but the H300 Tropic model has a few more features on it. They are both powered and can be opened and closed at the touch of a button. However, the glass slides up on the roof and not in between the roof panel. The major difference between the two is that the H300 Tropic model comes with anti-pinch feature along with an opaque shade.

Folding Sunroof

The H400 fabric offers much more real estate in terms of opening, though it gets a fabric convertible type lid for the sunroof opening. The opening is similar to the likes of the panoramic sunroof and the fit is quite secure too so one does not has to worry about any leaks or other such issues. The top model here, H700, is a fully automated and inbuilt sunroof. The glass on this model slides in between the roof panels. However, it is also the most expensive of the lot with a price of Rs. 1.7 lakhs. If you want to get a sunroof installed on your car, contact Revheads by clicking on the link below.

Tata Harrier now supports Apple CarPlay after official update

$

Tata Harrier was launched earlier this year starting at Rs 12.69 lakh, ex-showroom. The all-new SUV has gained quite a popularity in India because of its unique looks, a long list of features and a value-for-money price tag. Tata has pushed the first official update for the infotainment system and it is adding a new capability to the system.

Harrier 1

When launched the 8.8-inch floating-type infotainment system of the Harrier offered several connectivity input options like the Android Auto, Aux-in, USB and Bluetooth. Tata announced that they will soon push an update to add the Apple CarPlay connectivity option to the SUV too. According to Devanshu Kushwaha, an owner of Tata Harrier has revealed that Tata has finally started updating the software of the infotainment that adds the Apple CarPlay connectivity to the infotainment system. According to Devanshu, the update is done at the service centre. We are not sure if the owners can update the software by themselves. The new version of the software is Q5_R09.02.

Harrier 2

The Tata Harrier offers the best-in-segment infotainment and speaker set-up. The 8.8-inch coloured touchscreen of the Harrier is the biggest in the segment. The SUV gets a 9-speaker system with a subwoofer sourced from JBL. The rich surround sound system of the Harrier remains unmatched in the segment. The Harrier is also the only car in the segment that offers a digital-analogue instrument cluster. It gets a big 7.0-inch TFT coloured screen alongside the analogue speedometer.

The Harrier also offers a range of other features including HID Xenon projector headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), height-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control system, terrain modes, engine power modes, logo projection puddle lamps, and more. The Harrier gets ABS+EBD as standard across the variants while the top end version gets four airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), mitigation control, hill start assist and brake assist. There are features like automatic disc brake wiping, automatic brake adjuster too. However, features like an automatic transmission and a sunroof are missing from the vehicle, which has caused many to complain about it.

Harrier 3

The Tata Harrier comes powered by a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It is the same engine that powers the Jeep Compass in India but in Harrier, it is tuned to produce less power. The in-line four-cylinder diesel engine produces a maximum power of 140 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Tata is also working to add a 6-speed automatic transmission to the Harrier and it is expected to launch by the end of this year. Tata will also launch the 7-seater version of the Harrier in the market, which will be known as the Buzzard.

MG to launch the Hector by the first half of June: Bookings start from May 15

MG Motor’s debut vehicle in India, the Hector has been in news since some time now. A lot of details about the Tata Harrier rival is already out by now including the engine options and cabin features. The launch event of the SUV is expected to happen in the first half of 2020 while the bookings will start by the 15th of May. The Hector is a 5 seater SUV that will take on the likes of the XUV500 and the Tata harrier upon being launched in India. Owned by the Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor, MG is a British brand with the Hector being its first vehicle for India.

Mg Hector 1

Recently, the company hired Benedict Cumberbatch as its brand ambassador to endorse the Hector. On the exteriors front, it features a split headlamp design with LED DRLs on top and LED headlights lower in the bumper. The top end variants will get a lot of chrome while the lower end variant will get silver plastic inserts. On the inside, MG has equipped the Hector quite lavishly. The SUV will come with a large 10.4-inch touch infotainment system in portrait style and will be equipped with AI support. This will enable several features like AI-powered Voice Assist, pre-loaded apps and the ability to receive over-the-air updates. It will also get an inbuilt e-SIM and will be 5G ready.

Talking about the engines on the Hector, MG will offer both petrol and diesel engine options on the SUV when it comes here. The diesel engine will be a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre engine that is also found under the hood of the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier in the market, albeit in different tunes. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit. Both these engines will get a six-speed manual gearbox as standard while the petrol engine will also get a 6-speed DCT box as an option. Further, MG will also introduce a 48-volt mild hybrid version with the petrol powered variants in India that is said to be 12 per cent more efficient than the regular petrol variants.

Mg Hector Still 1

The company has not revealed any approximate price range of the SUV yet but expect it to be priced between the Rs. 15-20 lakh price bracket. This means that its rivals will also include the Jeep Compass and the upcoming Tata Cassini apart from the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Harrier. The high-end features and attractive body design are some of the plus points for the Hector but it remains to be seen how well it performs in sales in the real-world sense as factors like dealerships and after-sales service will also play a big role there. As of now, MG has appointed around 50 dealers across the country and shown the Hector to them.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales of Maruti Suzuki go down by 19.6 per cent

$

India’s largest auto manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has recorded a slump in domestic passenger vehicles sales. Compared to the sales in April 2018, the company recorded a slump of 19.6 per cent in sales volume. Maruti Suzuki sold 1,33,704 units in April 2019 whereas the same month last year saw the sale of 1,64,978 units, which is a significant drop in sales volumes. To let you know, Maruti’s sales figures from April 2019 also consist of 364 units of Baleno which are sold to Toyota as a part of the alliance between the companies. Toyota will sell these Baleno cars after rebadging them and has decided to call it the Glanza.

2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 1

Coming back to Maruti Suzuki, despite the sales slump, the company recorded a 5 per cent sales growth in year on year sales comparison of the fiscal year 2017-18 vs 2018-19. The last few months, however, have been hard on the industry and Maruti too is under the grip of the sales slowdown. This is due to various factors which include rising fuel prices, a shift in car ownership patterns and increasing competition among others. According to a recent report, about a third of the total vehicle sales were affected by the influence of ride-hailing services like Uber and Ola.

Maruti Ciaz 1.5 Diesel 1

Maruti Suzuki has cut down its production by 21 per cent in March in order to avoid the stockpiling of cars in storehouses and dealerships. Maruti has launched a number of new models, variants and facelifts in the past six months which has somewhat helped the case but still the results are not great. Some of the new cars like the Ertiga and the new WagonR have increased the sales of the respective models to quite an extent. The Ciaz, despite receiving a facelift last year took a massive dip of 45.5 per cent in sales as the company only sold 2789 units of the C-segment sedan in April 2019 against 5116 units sold in April 2018.

6new 2019 Maruti Wagonr

The entry-level and compact vehicles segment recorded a sales decline of 39.8 per cent and 13.9 per cent respectively in the month of April this year compared to last year. The only segments were the company recorded growth is the utility vehicle segment, where the sales per cent went up by 5.9%. The Vitara Brezza and the Ertiga are the vehicles which come under this segment. While the Ertiga was well received being a new and a well-equipped vehicle, the growing sales of Vitara Brezza show the shift in buying towards SUVs.

Maruti Swift Price 2

Maruti recently announced it would not offer any diesel engine on its cars come April 2020. This will further impact its sales as a good chunk of its sales comprise of diesel-powered vehicles. However, the company could bring back the diesel on higher priced cars like the Ertiga and Ciaz if demand persists. Due to the BNSVAP and BSVI norms, the company also discontinued the Omni and Gypsy this year. It now remains to be seen how the market develops for the rest of the year and would the sales grow or decline further.

Hero Xtreme 200S launched; second full-faired bike after Karizma

Hero MotoCorp for a long time only offered the Karizma ZMR as the only fully-faired bike in the Indian market. But that now changed with the launch of Hero Xtreme 200S, which is based on the Hero Xtreme 200R naked bike. The sporty looking bike is the fully-faired version of the Xtreme 200R and is priced at Rs 98,500. The Hero Xtreme 200R, which is the naked version of the bike is priced at Rs 90,900, ex-showroom, which makes the fully-faired version around Rs 8000 more expensive.

Xtreme 200s

The Hero Xtreme 200S gets quite a few first-in-segment features. It gets an aerodynamic fairing that looks quite aggressive and attractive. The feature list includes Bluetooth connectivity-enables instrument cluster, full LED headlamp and tail lamp setup, anti-slip seats and a fully digital instrument cluster. The fully digital instrument can be connected to the smartphone and the display can show turn-by-turn navigation, gear position indicator, trip meter, service reminder, caller information and message alerts. This is the first bike in the segment to offer such features.

The Hero Xtreme 200S gets powered by the same 200cc, the air-cooled, single-cylinder carbureted engine that powers the naked version of the bike too. It generates a maximum power of 18.4 PS and peak torque fo 17.1 Nm. It gets a five-speed transmission. Hero has not revealed the fuel efficiency of the bike but is expected to remain similar to the naked version of the bike.

The bike is also equipped with a 7-speed adjustable mono shock suspension at the rear. Both the wheels get disc brake. There is a 276mm disc brake at the rear and a 220mm disc brake mounted at the front of the bike. The single-channel ABS is standard.

Xtreme 200s 1

The Hero Xtreme 200S will be sold alongside the Hero Karizma ZMR in the market. The Karizma ZMR is powered by a 223cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power of 20 PS and 19.7 Nm of peak torque. The Karizma ZMR is priced at Rs 1.08 lakh, ex-showroom but does not get features like LED headlamps or the fully-digital instrument cluster that are available with the Hero Xtreme 200S. The sales figure posted by the Karizma ZMR is not impressive either and it is expected that the newly launched Xtreme 200S will replace the ageing ZMR from the market in the coming times.

It should be noted that Hero offers a fuel-injected version of the same engine with the newly launched XPulse in India. The carburetted engine available with the Xtreme 200R, Xtreme 200R and XPulsr 200T will be discontinued when the BS-VI emission norms come into effect. The new emission standards will come into effect next year in April and it will force a lot of changes in the market.

Royal Enfield created fireworks in the motorcycle market in India with the launch of the all-new 650 Twins in the market. Priced exceptionally at Rs 2.51 lakh, ex-showroom, the Interceptor is the most affordable twin cylinder engine powered bike in the Indian market. With such a price tag, the enthusiasts flocked to buy the all-new Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor and the Continental GT 650 creating a long waiting period on the bike. However, if you want to skip the waiting period and want to get the Interceptor into your garage NOW, here is the first used Royal Enfield Interceptor, which is up for sale.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 2

The bike for sale is available in Patiala, Punjab and the owner Aruj Singla is selling it for Rs 2.78 lakh. According to the owner, the bike is almost brand new and has done only 1,313 Km on the odometer. The bike was delivered in January 2019 and also has the zero depreciation insurance.

The on-road price that Aruj paid for the bike is Rs 2.91 lakh plus the bike also gets extra accessories worth Rs 12,000. The accessory list includes Royal Enfield sump plate, touring grand tour seat, Royal Enfield crash guard, Hella beam reflector with Nighteye HD LED headlamp.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 1

Aruj, the owner of the bike says that it is a fantastic motorcycle and does not fit his riding style. He would rather have bought the Triumph Bonneville T120 instead of the Royal Enfield Interceptor. He bought the bike for its power and smoothness but got completely inclined towards the Triumph Bonneville after he took a test-ride of the bike. The owner also adds that he prefers the Harley-Davidson and Triumph bikes when it comes it ergonomics. He expected something completely different from the bike but it does not fit his riding style at all. This is not the first Royal Enfield owned by Aruj. He previously owned a Royal Enfield Classic Desert Storm but sold it after 6 months as he did not like the vibey engine.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 3

The bike can be bought by the interested buyers belonging from the other states. Aruj says that he can ship the bike from Delhi or Patiala if the shipping charges and shipping details are borne by the buyer. The pictures of the bike also show aux lights and aftermarket mirrors but they are not included in the price of the bike. However, interested buyers can get a bundle deal for the aux lamps.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor is powered by e 649cc, parallel-twin, air-cooled engine that generates a maximum power of 47 Bhp and peak torque of 52 Nm. It gets a 6-speed transmission with the slipper clutch and disc brakes on both the wheels. The dual-channel ABS is standard with the bike. Interested buyers may directly contact the owner and further discuss the deal.

Maruti Suzuki begins shipping Baleno-based Glanza premium hatchback to Toyota

$

0

Maruti Suzuki has just begun shipping out the Glanza – a rebadged version of the Baleno premium hatchback – to  Toyota. 364 units of the Glanza hatchback – likely to be display and promotional models – have already been shipped  to Toyota, which will then start sending these cars to its dealerships across the country. Toyota will begin selling the Glanza in India from June 2019, when the car’s scheduled to be launched. Currently, bookings for the Glanza are open at Toyota dealerships.

Toyota Glanza New 1

The premium hatchback is expected to be sold in two variants: J and V. The J variant will be the entry-level model  while the V variant will be the fully loaded version. The J trim of the Toyota Glanza is expected to be based on the  Maruti Baleno’s Zeta trim while the V variant is expected to be based on the Alpha trims. All variants of the Toyota  Glanza will use a petrol engine, and a diesel engine option will not be available, even in future. The petrol engine  of the Glanza will be a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder unit. What remains to be seen is whether it’ll be the K-Series unit wit  82 Bhp-113 Nm on tap, or the DualJet petrol accompanied by a mild hybrid.

There will be two gearboxes on option: a 5 speed manual and a CVT automatic. The Glanza is expected to be pricier  than the Maruti Baleno, variant to variant. There are minimal stylistic changes on the Toyota badged car. Except for  the front grille and the Toyota badges at the front and rear, the Toyota Glanza is very similar to the Baleno. Even  the interiors are likely to be carried over from the Baleno, and the same is expected to be the case with the  features on offer. The Glanza will be Toyota’s first brand engineered car for the Indian market. Three more such cars  are in the immediate pipeline.

Apart from the Baleno, the Maruti Brezza compact SUV, the new Ertiga MPV and the Ciaz C-Segment sedan will be badge-engineered by Toyota in the next couple of years. This also means that the Toyota Yaris – the only C-Segment sedan that the Japanese automaker sells in India – could be replaced by the Ciaz from Maruti. Toyota will not just sell  these badge engineered cars in India but will also export them to emerging markets around the world. Maruti Suzuki could entirely move the production of the Vitara Brezza to production facilities run by Toyota in Bangalore. All cars supplied by Maruti to Toyota are expected to be petrol/petrol-mild hybrid variants. Like Maruti Suzuki, Toyota is  clearly moving away from diesel engined cars in the sub-Rs. 10 lakh segments.

India’s 1st Tata Harrier with sunroof: Official accessory costs just Rs. 25,000

$
0

The Tata Harrier hs spawned a storm in the mid-size SUV segment ever since its launch. The SUV was crowned the best seller in its segment last month as it left behind competitors like the Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass. The Harrier comes equipped with a ton of features and functions but a major gripe in the package is the lack of a sunroof even on the top end model. Sunroofs have become quite popular in India and an elegantly designed vehicle like the Harrier would have been further wooed the buyers with a sunroof but sadly, that’s not the case. However, now you can get one on your Harrier at just over Rs. 25,000. The Harrier below in Orcus White shows how a sunroof fitted on the SUV would look like.

Tata Harrier Sunroof

According to Ankit Banka, the owner of this Harrier, the total cost incurred for installing the sunroof on the SUV was around Rs. 25,000. Some dealers are offering sunroof fitment for the Harrier with a 2-year warranty cover from leakage and rusting. They are offering multiple sunroof options for the Harrier including an option for installing a panoramic sunroof. The cabin of the Tata Harrier is already quite a good place to be in but the inclusion of a sunroof definitely make things better. Recently, the company also rolled out an update for the infotainment system on the Harrier which makes it Apple CarPlay compatible along with fixing a few other bugs in the system.

Though having a sunroof on your car is a good thing, there is one major safety precautions you must follow while using a sunroof. As a rule of thumb, never get your body out of the sunroof while the vehicle is moving. The situation might turn ugly when someone is hanging out of the sunroof and the car undergoes sudden heavy braking, sharp steering manoeuvres or anything that might have a big effect on the inertia of the vehicle. Hanging outside the sunroof is only safe when either the vehicle is at crawling speeds or stationary.

Tata Harrier 19

The Tata Harrier is powered by the 2.0-litre KRYOTEC engine, which has is sourced from Fiat and is the same workhorse that powered the Jeep Compass and the will power the MG Hector, albeit in a different state of tunes. In the Harrier, the engine has been tuned for better fuel efficiency rather than outright performance. Still, the engine churns out a decent maximum power of 138 Bhp along with a solid 350 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox while an auto box is currently not available on the Harrier. The company is likely to launch a torque converter gearbox, sourced from Hyundai, by next year on the Harrier.

Next-generation Maruti Alto: What it could look like!

$
0
0

Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new Alto in the second half of 2019. The car will be inspired by the Future S  concept that was shown at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. A crossover-ish design for the new Alto is on the cards. Here is  a speculative render from IAB that shows what the all-new, 3rd generation Maruti Alto could look like.

2020 Maruti Alto

As the render indicates, the profile of the new Alto will be heavily inspired by the Future S concept, but with a  more squared off looks. The edges of the Future S concept seem more squarish, and butch in the new Alto. The wheels  will be smaller, 13 or 14 inch units. Alloy wheels are likely to be offered only on the top-end K10 version with the  rest of the variants expected to make do with steel wheels. The HEARTECT platform could form the basis of the new  Alto, and the entire Maruti line-up is likely to shift to this light weight platform in the coming years.

The HEARTECT platform keeps weight low by extensive usage of high tensile steel, and the same is expected on the new Maruti Alto, which is likely to be lighter than the outgoing version. Improvements in pick-up and mileage are  expected to accrue thanks to the lower kerb weight. The Maruti Alto sold in India is in its second generation, and is  available with two engine options. The new Alto is expected to continue with these engines, which will be upgraded to meet Bharat Stage 6 emission norms, which kick in from April 2020.

The car will be five seater, and is expected to have high ground clearance. A front wheel drive layout will be  standard, and an AMT option could be offered with the K10 model. The smaller engined version is expected to have a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. CNG and LPG dual fuel options of the new Alto are likely to be made available in specific markets of India. Keeping the future in mind, Maruti could even develop the new car to accept an electric powertrain in future.

As for safety, the new Alto will have to meet the BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) norms that will include structural strength standards from September 2019. The new safety norms also mandate a driver’s airbag, ABS, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat provision, seatbelt reminder and speed alerts. The Alto is India’s best selling car, a status it’s held on for more than 10 years. The new Maruti Alto will be developed to be another blockbuster from India’s biggest car maker. It’ll be aimed primarily at first time car buyers. Maruti has already begun testing the new Alto on Indian roads.
