Tata Harrier with new, aftermarket accessories looks cool

$

The Tata Harrier is now the best selling vehicle in its segment. It left behind the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass among others to claim the top crown. One of the major selling point or USP of the Harrier is the fact that how good it looks. It has been designed on the lines of Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy and has a great road presence. For the existing buyers of the Harrier SUV as well as the potential buyers, Firebird Cars have launched a few body add ons which greatly improve the aesthetics of the car.

Tata Harreir Bpfy Kit

This includes a rear diffuser, roof rails and front bumper kit. The front gets a custom designed impact bar which fits snugly on the bumper and looks decent too. It carries a black and silver colour design and complies with the AIS (Automotive Industry Standards). It helps in keeping the front end scratch less in case of minor bumps and does not restrict the functioning of Airbags. The lower end variants of the Harrier which comes sans any chrome are benefitted by using these bolt-on kits which will enhance the way the SUV looks in a big way.

Moving to the other bits, there are silver roof rails available too. Tata does not offer roof rails for the Harrier as standard fitment and hence if you are used of having roof rails on big vehicles like the Harrier, this might be useful for you. Last up is the rear diffuser kit, which again looks fantastic attached to Harrier’s base. The black lower cladding of the SUV is complemented by the silver colour of the diffuser. It also gets two faux exhaust vents on it which add a bit of a drama to the rear end.

Harrier Diffuser Rear

The Tata Harrier is powered by the 2.0-litre KRYOTEC engine, which has is sourced from Fiat and is the same workhorse that powered the Jeep Compass and the will power the MG Hector, albeit in a different state of tunes. In the Harrier, the engine has been tuned for better fuel efficiency rather than outright performance. Still, the engine churns out a decent maximum power of 138 Bhp along with a solid 350 Nm of torque.

The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox while an auto box is currently not available on the Harrier. The company is likely to launch a torque converter gearbox, sourced from Hyundai, by next year on the Harrier. Rumours are rife that Tata might also launch an AWD version of the Harrier after the launch of the Cassini but nothing is confirmed as of now. If you want to get this body kit for your Harrier, you can get in touch with Firebird cars by clicking here

MG Hector SUV: 7 seat version of the Tata Harrier rival in the works

The MG Hector was just unveiled in India yesterday, ahead of a June 2019 launch. The SUV is expected to rival the likes of the Tata Harrier and the Hyundai Creta in terms of pricing, and will be sold a five seater initially. What’s unmistakable is the fact that the Hector will be the longest SUV in its class, with a length of 4,655 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. These dimensions give engineers at MG Motor plenty of flexibility in terms of packaging. So, a 7 seat version of the MG Hector, with three rows of seats, is on its way to the Indian market. The company’s Managing Director for Indian operations, Rajeev Chaba, has just revealed to ACI that the 7 seat Hector would be launched in India in early 2020, just ahead of the Bharat Stage 6 deadline in April 2020.

Mg Hector

The 7 seat version of the Hector is expected to share its engines and transmissions with the 5 seat model. The Hector’s 5 seat version will be available with two engines, a mild hybrid 1.5 liter turbo petrol motor with 140 Bhp-250 Nm on tap, and a 2 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel with 170 Bhp-350 Nm. Both engines will get 6 speed manual gearboxes and the petrol mild hybrid motor will get a 7 speed, twin clutch automatic transmission option. All variants of the SUV will be front wheel driven, and MG has no plans to offer an all wheel drive layout. The same mechanical set up is likely to be carried over to the 7 seat model. Even the feature-set and infotainment module are expected to be carried over.

Later this year, Tata Motors will launch the Cassini, essentially a 7 seat version of the Harrier SUV. The 7 seat version of the MG Harrier will be a direct rival of the Cassini. While pricing details of the 7 seat MG Hector are yet to be revealed; for that matter even the 5 seater’s prices are under wraps, we expect it to be well under Rs. 20 lakhs. From all indications, MG Motor is looking at a value price tag for the Hector range as the SUV is relatively unknown in the Indian market, with little or no brand recall for the MG badge. An English car brand now owned by the Chinese, cars sold with this badge are now Chinese vehicles. In fact, the MG Hector is the Baojun 530 – a Chinese SUV built and sold by the SAIC group – under the skin.

Like the 5 seat version of the MG Hector, the 7 seat model will be built at Halol, Gujarat. Notably, SAIC, which is General Motors’ partner in China, took over the Halol factory from GM a few years ago. This factory will now be used to build a range of MG-badged cars for the Indian market, the first of which will be the Hector SUV. The automaker has plans to get into various other segments of the Indian car market in the coming years including electric cars.

Modification in India is not extremely popular but there are a few garages who take on jobs to modify and transform the cars completely. Executive Modcar Trendz (EMT) from Mumbai one such popular garage that has transformed numerous vehicles in the past and also makes modified vehicles that are used for Television soaps and movies. EMT can make any vehicle look extremely loud and attention-grabbing and they have done quite a few jobs in the past including converting a Honda Accord to a Lamborghini replica. However, here is another modification or transformation job performed on Honda Accord that completely changes the way it looks. It is based on the last-generation Accord, which was known for its elegant design lines. The car even showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and there is a video here by Lens Of India that shows a detailed view of the car. The car is often showcased at various auto shows across the country.

Honda Accord Nemesis

Honda Accord Emt

This modification job gets the name – Nemesis and the project was to transform the Honda Accord to an extreme looking sportscar inspired vehicle. Under the hood, rests a petrol V6 engine, which was known for its smoothness and power delivery.

The vehicle has been designed to look like an aggressive sports car, which is why it gets aggressive looking body panels all over. There are quite a few modifications done to the vehicle that has completely changed the way it looks.

Emt 1

Looking at the car, we can see that the Honda Accord seen in the pictures get a new face, which is completely different from the stock version of the car. There are a new grille and a new aggressive bumper up front.

It gets faux air scoops, which ensures that the car catches a lot of eyes on the roads. The door handle of the rear door gets a new design. This has been done to give the car a two-door look but the rear doors remain functional, which is quite useful.

Emt 3

At the rear, it gets a new bumper too, which echoes the same loud design of the front bumper. The whole car gets a sunshine yellow metallic paint that makes sure that the modified Nemesis does not go unnoticed even in the crowded roads. There is also 3D Carbon fibre wrap on several parts that adds to the overall look of the vehicle. At the front, the Nemesis gets aftermarket Bi-Xenon projector headlamps with LED turn signals.

Emt 4

The brake lamps have been upgraded to LED too and the integrated turn indicators are also LED now. The vehicle now runs on 18-inch Mag alloy wheels that look very good with the overall design of the car.

Emt 5

The engine remains untouched. The Honda Accord seen here gets powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that generates a massive 271 Bhp and 339 Nm of peak torque. Currently, the Honda Accord is only available in a hybrid form.

BMW India’s brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar, launched the 4th generation X5 luxury SUV. Prices of the all-new BMW X5 start from Rs. 72.9 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, for the base diesel model, going up to Rs. 82.4 lakhs for the higher petrol and diesel variants. The luxury SUV is assembled in India through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route. It will rival the Volvo XC90, Mercedes Benz GLE and the Audi Q7 SUVs. Unlike the Q7 though, which happens to be the largest SUV in the segment that also offers 7 seats, the X5 will be a five seater. The new BMW X5 is much larger than the 3rd generation model, but is slightly shorter. The increase in width gives the new X5 a more planted, squat stance.

Bmw X5 1

Talking dimensions, the new BMW X5 measures 4,922 mm in length, 2,004 mm in width, 1,745 mm in height and 2,975 mm in terms of wheelbase. The new X5 is 36 mm longer and 66 mm wider. The wheelbase goes up by 42 mm while overall height goes down by 17 mm. The luxury SUV is based on BMW’s CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform that it shares with the 5-Series, 7-Series and X7.

Extensive use of aluminium and high tensile steel in this platform means that the new X5 is actually lighter than the older version despite being larger. In terms of design, the new X5 gets a full revamp, with the front and rear bumper, narrow LED headlamps, new LED tail lamps, new alloy wheels and a massive Kidney grille up front as the key highlights.

Bmw X5 2

On the inside, a clean, minimal design theme is the highlight. As for the variant on offer, the new BMW X5 is offered in 3 trims: 30d Sport, 30d XLine and 40 MSport. Bookings for all variants are now open across all BMW dealerships in India, and deliveries will commence soon. Delving into mechanicals, the diesel engine on both variants is the tried and tested, 3 liter twin turbocharged inline 6 motor with 262 Bhp of peak power and 620 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine is also a 3 liter, inline 6 unit, running twin turbochargers and making 340 Bhp of peak power and 450 Nm of peak torque. Both engines get 8 speed, torque converter automatic gearboxes from ZF.

The engines drive all four wheels of the SUV by means of the xDrive all wheel drive system. With driving pleasure in mind, BMW has tuned the xDrive all wheel drive system to send power mainly to the rear wheels except in case of low grip situations when torque will be channeled to the front wheels as well. In terms of safety, the new BMW X5 gets a flurry of active and passive safety options, ranging from 7 airbags, ABS, traction control to ESP, hill hold, hill descent control, cruise control, multiple drive modes and more. The infotainment unit is a large, 12.3 inch touchscreen unit with gesture control and Apple CarPlay. Other key features on the car include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, touchscreen remote keyfob, remote parking and remote start.

Can a Yamaha R15 V2 pull a Mahindra Scorpio [Video]: 150cc vs 2.5 tonnes!

$
0
0

The Yamaha R15 V2 became an instant hit as soon as it came out. The bike had almost the same engine but the design and other features were updated big time along with the addition of broader wheels. The result was a bike that was loved for its looks universally, though the pillion rider’s head would be in the clouds while riding. It has now been replaced by the R15 V3 which is a major step up. Coming to the Yamaha R15 V2, Youtuber MR. INDIAN HACKER decided to do a little fun test with the bike. He tried to pull a Mahindra Scorpio with the bike, both from the front and the rear. Take a look at the video before we discuss the outcome.

The R15 V2 is a 150 cc motorcycle and though it has a decent amount of power under its belt, pulling a Scorpio easily with the bike seemed to be a question which couldn’t be answered properly without a test. The Mahindra Scorpio roughly weighs around 2510 kgs and is a big burly SUV. The R15 V2, on the other hand, is a nimble weight bike and weighs around 136 kg. Let’s now see what was the result of this brave attempt by the Yamaha R15 V2.

The tow hook of the Mahindra Scorpio is attached to a rope which is tied on the R15 as well. With all preparations done, a rider comes and sits over the R15 and thumbs the starter up, The clutch is released slowly and after a few moments, the Scorpio began to roll in the direction of R15. The Yamaha bike then maintains a steady pace and pulls the Scorpio to a respectable distance.

R15 Pulling Scorpio

To let you know, the R15 V2.0 was launched in 2013 and is powered by a 149.8cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine. This engine generates a maximum power of 17 PS along with a maximum torque of 15 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Talking about the second round, the Scorpio is now tied from the rear to the bike. The rider again fires the engine to life and the bike starts pulling the Scorpio. Slowly and gradually it builds up a decent speed as can be seen in the video. Therefore, the Yamaha R15 V2 with its 150 cc engine can easily pull a 2.5 tonne Mahindra Scorpio SUV.

A point to note here is that though the Mahindra Scorpio weighs 2.5 tonnes, pulling it is actually not that big of a feat. That is because the wheels allow the mass to be easily owed and once a decent momentum is achieved, pulling it becomes even easier. However, doing so can take a heavy toll on the gearbox and the clutch of the bike and hence it is not recommended.

Volkswagen Polo GT TDI goes to Sandakphu, which is pure 4X4 territory in the Himalayas [Video]

Back in the day when the Volkswagen Polo was launched in India, it became one of the most popular hatchbacks in its segment. It was also the debut car for the German manufacturer in India when it entered the country this time. The polo was characterized by its European design, good driving dynamics and decent engines.  However, lack of updates and other things meant that the car became a slow seller. Volkswagen later launched a more powerful version of the car with a focus on the enthusiast crowd. Called the Volkswagen Polo GT, it comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. One fine day then, the guys at evo India decided to take the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI for an off-road run.

Before you ask, this isn’t just another case of a regular mud splashing among other things. The route that was chosen for this run is the trail from Manebhanjang to Sandakphu, which is often called as the toughest 4×4 road in the Eastern Himalayas section. So the stuff we are talking about is serious them. This route leads to the highest peak in West Bengal. It is frequented by trekkers who come to view four of the five highest peaks in the world. The difficulty level is so high the locals use five-decade-old Land Rovers vehicles (series I and II) on this track along with Mahindra 4×4 vehicles, which are among the only vehicles that can take the beating here.

Polo Off Road

The Volkswagen Polo is a good car but it is no SUV to do all these types of adventures. This run was done as a part of the 10-year India launch anniversary celebration of the Polo. The Volkswagen Polo started off its journey accompanied by an SUV, the Volkswagen Tiguan which acted as a backup and support vehicle. The path till Gairibas was still a wee bit bearable but after that, the real challenge began. The road, or better to say track became quite treacherous after Gairibas (at 10,400 feet) and the crew had to remove big boulders and other obstacles from the path several times during the way.

The Polo finally reached Kalipokhri, which is 11,929 feet and 5 km short of Sandakphu. Due to extremely adverse weather conditions, the car was taken back from here but coming all the way up till there was no small feat either. The car had almost touched Sandakphu and this shows the capability of this hatchback. Powering the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI is a 1.5-litre Diesel engine that churns out 108.5 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and is one engaging car to drive.

Meet the Falcon, a CLASSY looking, modified Royal Enfield Classic 500

$

0

Falcons are birds of prey known for their speed and ferocity among other things. The Peregrine Falcon is the fastest in the animal kingdom and the term Hayabusa means the same in Japanese. In fact, Suzuki chooses this name for the same reason as to signify speed. While Falcons are not very common in India, Eimor Customs took it upon themselves to create an Indian falcon in the form of a bike. The Hyderabad based mod house has created yet another stunning looking bobber which is called the Falcon. Take a good look at the bike before we delve into the details of its making.

Eimor Falcon 1

It is based on a Royal Enfield Classic 500, which came to them in the Desert Storm form. What now stands here is a different motorcycle altogether in terms of aesthetic and we love it. The Falcon has been build on the bobber body language and the guys at Eimor have executed the job precisely as was required. The engine and other mechanicals have been left untouched apart from a few minor adjustments. It gets a custom crystal effect paint job that literally pops out. The tank and fenders have been covered with this red crystal effect paint job. The red paint job lends a unique personality to this bike which makes it stand out in the crowd.

Eimor Falcon 2

Coming to other changes made on the bike, it now runs on broader wheels to suit the bobber nature while the spoked rims are custom units. The rims have been blacked out along with the engine and other lower body parts like toolbox and bike stands. This adds a bit of visual drama to the bike giving it a bit of stealth bobber look. The gearbox, however, is all shined up and is matched by those shiny crash guards on the sides. The handlebars are also an aftermarket unit with red coloured red grips matching the bike’s paint job. The headlight is a typical circular unit which fits the bobber theme well.

Eimor Falcon 3

The front and rear fender on the bike is custom made for the Falcon while the instrument cluster is a redesigned unit. The Tank gets a beautiful Falcon logo along with ‘FALCON’ lettering in gold. The tank is also a custom made unit with a rib running through the centre of it. The single piece saddle is an old school stitched leather unit with springs underneath. A custom aftermarket exhaust is all this bike needed and it has been fitted with one too. The shiny metal pipe has been wrapped on the top and we are sure that it lends out some nice notes. Another day, another great Royal Enfield mod and the day seems to be all set. Agree? Let us know in the comments section.

What the Tata Nano would look like, if it were designed today!

$
0
0

Tata Nano, India’s most affordable car became a headline on many reputed international journals when it was launched in 2008. However, a series of events including the setting-up the factory for the car and then a few fire cases alongside the “cheapest” tag on the car played a major role on ensuring the failure of the car.

Due to the hype around the model, every single thing related to the Nano used to spread like wildfire. While Tata projected a big number for the Nano, the actual sales remained quite low from the expectations. Even the facelifted models could not attract the customers.

Sadly, Tata pulled the plug from the car last year, which again gathered a lot of attention from reputed publications around the world. However, what if Tata Nano came in 2019? What it could have looked like alongside the fabulous line-up of Tiago, Nexon, Harrier and Hexa in the market? Well, our in-house rendering artist Vipin Vithoopan has used tata’s Impact 2.0 design principles to create this 2020 Nano that shows you what a modern-day Tata Nano could look like.

2020 Tata Nano

Tata has adopted the latest IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy and the Tata Harrier is the first car to get the new theme. Soon cars like Tata Altroz will be launched in the market following the same design language. The Tata Nano seen in the rendering image shows how the car would have looked if Tata Nano was designed using the latest philosophy. Could a little Nano with Impact 2.0 design language work, if it were launched today? There is no way to know. It is impossible to re-design the current Nano to make it look like this, we think. The costs would be too high, if the company tried to do this from scratch.

The egg-shaped Nano came with a tallboy design. It ensured a lot of headroom and cabin space but made the vehicle look odd from the outside. Here the rendering image shows a very sleek looking Nano with the new-age LED headlamps and arrow-shaped DRLs. The windshield of the Nano is extremely raked that gives it a sporty look and it gets a blacked-out roof too,

The Tata Nano used a simple design theme but here we can see some deep creases on the body and a window-frame integrated rear door handlebar that adds a two-door look to the vehicle. The flat roofline with the aggressive window line of the Tata Nano ensures that it gets all the eyes on the roads. Tata’s production models often do not get good looking alloy wheels, which is why the model seen here gets the alloy wheels from Tata Altroz concept. At the rear, the large tail lamps can be seen spilling over to the sides of the hatchback too.

Nano 2020 Fb

Tata Nano was an extremely practical vehicle and was made to provide a safe mode of transport at an affordable price to the two-wheeler riders. However, it really did not go as planned for the manufacturer. While we may see a reboot of the Nano moniker in the future, there are no plans from the manufacturer in the near future to bring back the hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio outsells Renault Kwid & Tata Tiago

$

0

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has just outsold the Renault Kwid and the Tata Tiago hatchbacks in April 2019. Maruti sold 6,668 units of the Celerio in April 2019, compared to Tata Motors’ 5,309 units of the Tiago and Renault India’s 5,336 units of the Kwid. While the Celerio has done better than both the Kwid and Tiago, the car has also seen a massive dip in numbers. In April 2018, it sold nearly 10,000 units, which means that it has lost nearly a third of sales. This is reflective of the overall damp sentiment in the new car market. Almost every big car maker is showing a significant sales drop, with many leading automakers including Maruti Suzuki even cutting production.

As for the Tiago and Kwid, the sales slowdown has not spared them as well. Tiago sales are down by 25 % and the Kwid has fared much better, with a sales drop of just 8 %. The introduction of ABS, airbags and reverse parking sensors on the Kwid, at a very minor price increase, could be the reason why the sales of the Kwid have been more steady than that of say the Celerio or Tiago.

However, the Kwid is reaching the end of its life cycle, and sales are now much lower than what they were when the car was still fresh in the Indian market. Renault is working on a major upgrade for the Kwid, and the automaker has already begun testing it on Indian roads. The Kwid’s next-generation version will also get an all-electric version, which is already on sale in China.

Kwid Tiago

Coming back to the Celerio, the car has been around for over 5 years now. It was first introduced at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Sales have been quite strong for most part of its life cycle but increased competition and age is catching up with the car. Maruti is said to be working on an all-new version, which should make its debut sometime next year.

The Celerio – the first car in India to introduce an automated manual transmission (AMT) option – has received a slew of updates, refreshes and even  diesel engine over the years. Now though, the diesel variant is no longer sold and the Celerio’s engine options remain confined to petrol and CNG-Petrol dual fuel units.

The Celerio is powered by a 1 liter-3 cylinder petrol engine that puts out 67 Bhp-90 Nm. Five speed manual and AMT options are on offer with the car. Prices of the hatchback start from Rs. 4.41 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, making it  more expensive than both the Tata Tiago and the Renault Kwid. The Tiago’s prices start from Rs. 4.24 lakhs while those of the Kwid start from Rs. 2.85 lakhs.

Toyota Glanza: Official teaser shows front and profile of Maruti Baleno-based premium hatchback

We’re just weeks away from the official launch of the Toyota Glanza – a premium hatchback based on the Maruti Baleno. Toyota’s first badge engineered car in India, the Glanza will be launched in early June, and Toyota dealers across the country have already begun taking bookings for the hatchback. A Maruti Baleno out and out save for the front grille, badging at the front and rear, and on the steering wheel, the Glanza will use only the petrol engine of the Baleno. It’ll get both the 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes but what remains to be seen is whether the car will receive a mild hybrid option that’s offered in the recently launched Baleno Dualjet. Here is the latest teaser of the car.

If the 1.2 liter DualJet petrol engine with mild hybrid combination is not offered on the Glanza, the 1.2 liter K-Series petrol engine – seen on a range of Maruti Suzuki cars including the Ignis and Swift – is expected to be offered. This engine makes 82 Bhp-113 Nm, and is known for a high level of refinement and reliability. This engine also loves to be revved. Considering that the Glanza, like the Maruti Baleno, will use the light weight HEARTECT platform, the 1.2 liter K-Series engine should give it sufficient pep. The Toyota badged hatchback is likely to be pricier than equivalent variants of the Baleno, and will be offered in two trims: G and V.

The G variant will be a mid level trim while the V variant will be a top-end trim. The top-end trim will offer a touchscreen infotainment system with Android auto and Apple Carplay, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control, key less entry, push button start, electrically folding wing mirrors, a reverse parking camera and factory tinted glass. As for safety features, reverse parking sensors, ABS+EBD, twin airbags, seat belt reminders, speed alerts and ISOFIX child seat mounting points will be standard across variants. The premium hatchback will be retailed from Toyota showrooms but will be built by Maruti Suzuki at its Gujarat factory.

Toyota Glanza Featured 1

The Glanza will be the first of four badge engineered Maruti Suzuki cars that Toyota will launch in the next couple of years in India. The other Maruti cars that will get the Toyota badge and restyling are the Brezza compact SUV, the Ertiga MPV and the Ciaz C-Segment sedan. These cars will not only be sold in India but will also be exported to select emerging markets around the world. All these cars will be sold only with petrol and petrol-hybrid engine options as Toyota, like Maruti Suzuki, has plans of steering clear of small capacity diesel engines. Only larger Toyota cars such as the Innova Crysta and Fortuner will continue operating with diesel engines.

Jeep India to launch 4 new SUVs: Details

$

Amid the reports of Fiat leaving India, a new report has shed light on FCA’s future plan in India regarding the Jeep brand. The SUV manufacturer has been doing good so far and though 2019 has been a slow year so far, they expect the market to pick up the pace once again in the coming months. According to a report by ETAuto, which discussed Fiat’s future plan in India, Jeep will be launching 4 SUVs in the coming time. The brand is looking to expand its model portfolio in the country and increase its market share.

Compass TrailHawk

The four SUVs that FCA will launch through the Jeep brand will be the Compass TrailHawk, Compass facelift, a 7 seater SUV based on Compass, and an all-new B-segment SUV. Talking about the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, it will be a more hardcore version of the regular Compass SUV. The Trailhawk variant will bring 4×4 drivetrain, a new engine gearbox combo along with a host of other features with it and will sit at the top of the Compass variant lineup.

It will be powered by the 2.0-litre diesel engine that puts out 173 Bp of power along with 350 Nm of torque and will be paired with a 9-speed dual clutch transmission. It will also get the Selec-Terrain system that comes with a total of five modes including Sport, Sand/Mud, Rock and Auto. The ground clearance will be increased by 20 mm and the approach and departure angles will also improve.

Compass Facelift

Jeep Compass Facelift 1

The Compass Facelift will be launched next year and will give the SUV a cosmetic makeover along with some new features. The Compass has begun to feel the heat from rivals like the Tata Harrier which has affected its sales. The upcoming MG Hector and later the Tata Cassini will again give it a tough time and for the same, Jeep will update the Compass to keep its market position strong.

Jeep Sub 4 Meter Suv 2

The small B-segment SUV will be launched after 2020 and will be the most affordable product in the brand’s model lineup. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the upcoming Kia SP2i SUV when launched. It’s likely to be a petrol-only model, with a turbocharged petrol engine at its core. This turbo petrol could also be paired by a hybrid option. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are likely to be offered. While this SUV will predominantly be a front wheel driven vehicle, an all wheel drive system option is also expected to be offered.

Talking about the 7-seater Compass, FCA global had announced in June last that the company will launch a seven-seater Compass and the small SUV for the Indian market. This one will probably be positioned as a Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour challenger and will get proper 4×4 drivetrain on the top end variant.

Jeep is also working on expanding its dealership and service network. Already, it has expanded its dealership footprint to 82 outlets in 70 cities and is using the current phase to consolidate its presence in the market. For now, the company is also working on upgrading its engine lineup to be BS6 compliant before the April 2020 deadline. A lot of other manufacturers have decided to shun diesel in lower-priced cars but Jeep will continue using diesel engines for its SUVs. Apart from all this, Jeep will also launch the facelifted version of the Wrangler in India in the coming months.

If you are in Delhi NCR, here are the best deals we identified based on their TRUE PRICE. We ran the analysis on May 15, 2019, so if you are reading this article later, there is a very good chance that the cars listed here are sold.

But this list still provides some useful pointers even if these specific cars are not available to you.

• There are good deals to be had if you focus on usage rather than age
• That you don’t need to splurge in the Rs 5 lakh range unless you want an automatic.

Here are the top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Ford Figo 1.4 TDCi Titanium

Ford Figo Used

Year: 2012 / Mileage: 26.050 km / Asking Price: Rs. 280,000 / OP: Rs. 768,000

Why buy: Ford Figo TDCi Titanium at Rs 2.8 lakh and with 26,000 km tops the list. This one-below-the-top-end variant comes for about a third of the original price. Further, its diesel engine combined with Ford’s drive to cut service costs should make for a rather attractive cost of ownership.

Buy it here

Recommendation #2: Maruti Baleno 1.2 Delta

Maruti Baleno Used

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 30,000 km / Asking Price: Rs. 500,000 / OP: Rs. 720,000

Why Buy: If you are okay spending every bit of your budget of Rs. 5 lakh, then the second entry on the list, Maruti Baleno 1.2 Delta is a no-brainer. Why? It’s relatively new. It’s sparingly used. It’s an automatic. It’s feature packed. And it’s a Maruti.

Buy it here

Recommendation #3: Hyundai i10 Sportz (O) AT

Hyundai Grand I10 Used

Year: 2017 / Mileage: 28,300 km / Asking Price: Rs. 416, 500 / OP: Rs. 706,000

Why buy: At number 3, Hyundai Grand i10 at 4.16 lakh with just 28,000 km, offers you are slightly cheaper ‘automatic’ alternative to the Baleno listed above. The model is loaded with features since it’s a Option Pack model. So if Auto is what you are looking for, and the budget is tight, then this is a great buy.

Buy it here

Recommendation #4: Maruti Suzuki SX4 VXi

Maruti Sx4 Used

Year: 2012 / Mileage: 23,100 km / Asking Price: Rs. 270,000 / OP: Rs. 715,138

Why buy: Maruti SX4 VXi with just 23,000 km on odometer and an asking price of Rs 2.7 lakhs is next on the list A reliable sedan backed by a solid and inexpensive service network for just one-third of its original price. The VXi variant in Maruti line-up has all the features you’d really need. If sedan is what you are looking for, then this is a great buy.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi

Maruti Swift Used

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 13,176 km / Asking Price: Rs. 356,000 / OP: Rs. 696,000

Why Buy: Any car that has clocked less than 15,000 km and comes for half the price of it’s new avatar, is a very good buy. And if it happens to be the much-loved Swift and a diesel, the story gets even better. Plus, the VDi variant on offer gets you all the features you really need. So what’s the catch? On surface, there is none but a 5-year old car with just 13,000 km sounds a bit dodgy so have it thoroughly inspected before signing the cheque.

Buy it here

In Summary

You’d notice that three of the recommendations here are well under your budget. The two that in the higher band of your budget are automatics—which are a bit rare on the used car market. And all are sparingly used with a good five years of trouble-free ownership ahead of them.

New 2019 Mahindra Bolero with Airbag, ABS & reverse parking sensors spied testing

$
0
0

The Mahindra Bolero is one of the best selling UVs in India. It has been on the top spot for quite a long time now. The Bolero is especially popular in semi-urban and rural areas due to its affordable price tag, seating options and rugged built quality. Recently, a test mule of the Bolero was caught being tested on the roads. These spy shots suggest that this is the upcoming Bolero update that will bring driver side airbags and ABS with it. This is to make the vehicle compliant with the new safety standards.

Bolero Spyshots

The new rules that are already in effect from July 2019 mandate the presence of ABS, Driver side Airbags and rear parking sensors among others on all cars. For the same, Mahindra is now testing the safety features equipped version of the Bolero. An ABS-equipped Bolero was recently spotted at a dealership recently. As seen in the spy shot, this Bolero gets a new modern steering wheel. This is actually a unit taken from the TUV300 sub-4 meter SUV that now comes with airbags. Using the same unit on both these vehicles means lesser spares for the company and therefore they have installed the one from TUV300 instead of developing a new one.

Other safety features this car will come with include a speed alert system, passenger seat-belt reminder, ABS and rear parking sensors, all of which have been made compulsory for all cars now. With these, the Bolero will become safer to drive, which is the aim of these safety features. Moreover, come October 2019 and all cars will have to comply with the more stringent offset front and side crash-test standards. This would mean structural changes on most of the cars sold in India to pass these tests. The Bolero hence will be altered as required in order to continue to be on sale.

Bolero Spyshots 2

Another major update the Bolero will get is BSVI compliant engines. According to the government mandate, all cars sold from April 2020 will have to be BSVI compliant or else they’ll be shelved. For this reason, multiple auto manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata, and Mahindra itself have decided to ditch diesel engines from low priced cars as upgrading the engines to BSVI standards means their asking price will go up by quite a bit, more so in the case of diesel engines. Talking about the Bolero, the rest of the vehicle seems to be quite identical to the one on sale here already. The exteriors and interiors have the same design features which suggest the only change on this update will be the addition of safety features. Expect this Bolero to be launched in the coming months. The pricing will be almost the same with a marginal hike to adjust costs.

Kia SP2i: Interiors of Hyundai Creta-based SUV spied ahead of official launch

$

Kia Motors will soon be launched in the Indian market later this year. Their first vehicle to be launched in the Indian market will be an SUV that will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the Nissan Kicks. The all-new SUV will be based on the KIA SP Concept, which was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. Kia has been testing the all-new car under a heavy camouflage on the Indian roads for a long time now. The latest spy pictures of the vehicle show more details about the upcoming car.

Kia Sp2i 1

The new pictures on Throttle-Blips show the pictures of the cabin that reveals that the upcoming car will come loaded with features. The new pictures clearly show the dashboard of the all-new Kia SUV, which is yet to get a production name. The new pictures reveal that the vehicle gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment screen is well hidden behind the camouflage but a piano black finish can be spotted around the screen of the infotainment. The steering has also been spotted and it seems to get a nice leather wrap. The door trim gets some chrome and silver accents that look quite good.

The car also gets red brake calipers that look nice with the alloy wheels. The vehicle also gets some inserts in the headlamps and the pictures also show the turn indicators placed beside the mesh grille of the vehicle.

Kia Sp2i 2

Earlier this year, Kia showcased the Kia SP Signature Concept at the Seoul Motor Show and it was a more near-production version than the Kia SP concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in India. The SP Signature Concept looks very similar to the SP Concept showcased in India and gets a wide grille with sleek DRLs. The main headlamp cluster of the vehicle is located lower in the bumper of the car like most of the modern cars. However, there are many design highlights that will definitely not appear on the production version of the car. For example, the front lamps merge into the tiger nose grille, which looks quite futuristic. The grille also gets integrated Daytime Running Lamps (DRL).

The engine options of the upcoming Kia SUV will get a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 140 Bhp. We can also expect a 1.5-litre diesel engine. At a later date, Kia may also bring in a more powerful version of the vehicle. Currently, Kia plans to launch a car every six months in the Indian market after the launch of their first car in the Indian market.

Hyundai Venue Compact SUV prices leaked: To be pricier than Maruti Brezza?

$
0
0

Hyundai India will launch the Venue sub-4 meter compact SUV on the 21st of May, 2019. Ahead of this big launch, the leaks seem to have begun in full earnest, a leaked ‘dealer booking price’ figure floating on Team-BHP indicates that the top-end diesel variant of the Hyundai Venue would be priced at Rs. 10.43 lakhs, which makes it about Rs. 35,000 pricier than the Maruti Brezza’s top-end ZDi+ Dual Tone trim. This is assuming that the Venue’s pricing reflects ex-showroom Delhi figures. The same source has prices of two more Venue variants: SX (0) Turbo Petrol at Rs. 10.09 lakhs, and SX Turbo DCT (petrol automatic) at Rs. 10.66 lakhs. Currently, the Maruti Brezza is the best selling SUV in its segment, and is available only in 2 power train combinations: Diesel Manual and Diesel AMT.

Hyundai Venue Prices Leaked

If these prices are indeed true, the Hyundai Venue will be a premium-priced SUV in its segment, a-la-big brother Creta. Also, this kind of pricing will be consistent with Hyundai’s price philosophy, which involves loading up a car with features and then putting a premium price tag on it.  The Venue  was showcased a few weeks ago, and the SUV looks butch yet compact. It has a sub-4 meter form factor, and an imposing front grille.

The interiors reek of a high quality finish, which could be the best-in-segment. Also, the SUV does get a slew of safety features and creature comforts, making it one of the best equipped SUVs in its segment, second only to the Mahindra XUV300 – the current feature king of the sub-4 meter compact SUV class.

Hyundai Venue Front

As for mechanicals, the Hyundai Venue will share two engines with the India-spec i20 Elite premium hatchback. These engines are the 1.2 liter-4 cylinder VTVT naturally aspirated petrol with 82 Bhp-115 Nm on tap, and the 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel. While the petrol motor will get a 5 speed manual gearbox, the diesel will get a 6 speed manual. The Venue will have many firsts to its name, for a Hyundai sold in India.

It’ll be Hyundai’s first car in India to offer a twin clutch automatic gearbox, in this case a 7 speed unit. Another first will be the turbo petrol engine, which displaces 1 liter in a 3 cylinder layout. this motor will make 118 Bhp-172 Nm, and will get 2 gearbox options: a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed twin clutch automatic.

Hyundai Venue Compact Suv 1

In terms of safety features, the top-spec Venue will offer 6 airbags, ABS+EBD, traction control, vehicle stability management (Hyundai-speak for ESP), hill hold assist, cruise control, reverse parking sensors and a reverse parking camera. As for creature comforts, the Venue will get a twin zone, automatic climate control unit, wireless charging, e-SIM for Telematics (remote starting, car locator, remote sunroof and window operation, remote AC operation, automatic headlamps, smart key, push button start, rain sensing wipers, air purifier, cooled glovebox, electric sunroof and a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

5 impossible Hindustan Ambassador renders

$
0
0

The Ambassador is one of the earliest and most iconic cars in India. Made by Hindustan Motors, the Ambassador’s production started in 1958 and went on till 2014, when the car was finally discontinued. The Ambassador was based on the Morris Oxford series III model and the basic design of the car remained the same throughout its lifetime. Hindustan Motors launched several different types of vehicles based on the ambassador including a pickup truck. While the Ambassador may never come back the way it was, here are 5 ways, though quite impossible, in which we wish to see it someday.

Roadster

Amby Coupe 2

Starting off the list is this roadster version of the Ambassador which looks damn cool. The low slung look infused with the Ambassador DNA looks really gorgeous. We bet this one could steal the thunder at any auto show if made. The front end gets typical Ambassador design traits like the metal bumper, chrome-ringed circular headlamps and sculpted bonnet. The old school shiny metal tires add a further touch of class to this Ambassador speedster. Artist: Vipin Vathoopan

Hovercar

Flying Ambassador 1

Yes, you got it right. This one is not for real. This is a digital render created by our artist Vipin Vathoopan  who edited photos of actual Ambassadors on Indian roads. Nevertheless, the concept looked so cool that we couldn’t stop ourselves from including in this list. The concept for this hovering Ambassador is somewhat inspired by the flying cars seen in the Back to The Future movies or the Harry Potter franchise. The Ambassador seemed the perfect car then to apply this concept on.

Mad Max Amby

Ambassador

Flicks like Death Race and Mad Max gave us the concept of battle-ready cars that are ready to take you on a ride on doomsday. While thinking of applying this concept on an Indian car, the Ambassador again came on top of our minds. It looks total badass and carries an arsenal of weaponry with it. It has been draped in matte black paint and the windows have been covered with metal bars in true death race style. The wheels have been replaced with broader units and the front end is best left unsaid. Artist: Unknown

Gullwing Amby

Gull Wing Amby Main

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is the inspiration behind this Ambassador render. The 300 SL was the first car to introduce the concept of gullwing doors to the world and they became the car’s X factor soon after. This design was not replicated later due to several reasons, among which was prime. We took the Ambassador roadster render, made some tweaks and voila! The Ambassador gullwing was made us skip a beat as it looks achingly beautiful. Personally, I’m not too big a fan of vintage styled cars but this, oh man, this proved how wrong I’ve been all this while. Artist Vipin Vathoopan

Brute SUV

Hindustan Ambassador Suv

From a purist point of view, making an SUV out of regular cars is considered to be a sin. A few decades back, auto enthusiasts often looked down upon SUVs and Wagons as merely for utilitarian use. However, SUVs are the best selling vehicle type in the current world which speaks volumes about how much they have developed. For the same, we turned the Ambassador into an SUV by extending its body, modifying the roof and giving it a set of butch alloy wheels. It now looks the perfect example of a resto-mod. Artist Vipin Vathoopan

There you have it. Got any other ideas for an impossible Ambassador? Let us know on our Facebook post about this!
