Facelifted Volkswagen Polo & Vento spied ahead of India launch

$

Volkswagen India is readying up the umpteenth facelift for the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan. Both cars will get new styling elements inspired by the Volkswagen Polo GTI and are also expected to pack in more features to keep them fresh enough for buyers. Both cars have been around in the Indian market for 9 years and 8 years respectively and are yet bought by a couple of thousand buyers each month thanks to Volkswagen updating these cars constantly.

Volkswagen Polo Facelift Spyshot 1

The latest facelift could also see Volkswagen add a Bharat Stage 6 compliant 1 liter-3 cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine to both cars. This engine will be available in two states of tune, and is expected to replace both petrol and diesel engines offered currently in the cars. Spyshots of the facelifted Polo and Vento are already out, and the cars have begun reaching Volkswagen dealerships across India. An official launch is just around the corner.

As the spyshots from Team-BHP indicate, both the Polo and Vento get GTI inspired styling, with the front grille getting a honeycomb pattern, the roofs getting a black wrap and the alloy wheels getting greyed out further. The Polo and Vento also gain hatchlid and bootlid spoilers respectively. The cars also get sporty bumper inserts in black, and side skirts have been added as well.

Volkswagen Polo Facelift Spyshot 2

The new engine is likely to be offered in the Polo with a 94 Bhp state of tune while the GT TSI and Vento are likely to get it in 115 Bhp state of tune. Peak torque could go up to 200 Nm, making this engine quite a peppy unit in both cars. A 6 speed manual gearbox is likely while the higher state of tune is also expected to get the 7 speed PQ200 twin clutch automatic gearbox option. The new engine is also expected to be offered on the Skoda Rapid, which shares its platform and mechanicals with the Polo and Vento.

Volkswagen Vento Facelift Spyshot

Volkswagen is likely to continue offering the 1.5 liter TDI turbocharged diesel engine in 89 Bhp-220 Nm and 110 Bhp-250 Nm states of tune on the Polo and Vento until April 2020, when the Bharat Stage 6 emission norms kick in. Once these emission norms come into place, the diesel engined variants will be discontinued. Volkswagen will shift to turbo petrol engines permanently from next year, and a larger 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine will be offered on the next-generation Vento, which is likely to arrive sometime in 2021. Volkswagen has not indicated whether the Polo and its compact sedan sibling – the Ameo – would continue to be offered in India under the new MQB A0 platform that will form the base for the new Vento. What’s confirmed though are compact SUVs called the T-Cross from Volkswagen and Kamiq from Skoda. These Hyundai Creta rivals are likely to be launched by the end of 2020, and Skoda is also likely to bring in the new Rapid a year later.

Do you want to purchase a used car but do not want to overshoot a fixed budget? Is your focus solely on diesel cars, that too with less than 50,000 kilometers on the odometer? Are you car hunting specifically for Mumbai? If yes, then we have all the answers to your needs. You might think your demands are too specific, but even with your specific needs you will have to surf through countless options on leading car websites. Moreover, they will have listings of cars that have not been neatly sorted, and hence are not in a position to give you the best deal. How do you decide which car to buy then? Used car websites are usually of little use, even with their multiple filters. The onus of sorting the information remains on you, and who wants to be digging a data mine? Fortunately, we have got just the right solution for you through the Cartoq TRUE PRICE.

Cartoq True Price Featured

By deploying the Cartoq TRUE PRICE, we help you identify the best deals. The Cartoq Data Science team has built a Machine Learning model that estimates the TRUE PRICE of a used car, after accounting for all sorts of variables – brand, model, age, mileage, and car type. With all factors accounted for, the model predicts the TRUE PRICE, which then becomes the basis of comparison across cars. The best deals are those where the listed price is lower than the TRUE PRICE. So, we scan through the car listings across major used car sites, compute their TRUE PRICE, and present the best deals for you.

The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on June 20, 2019; so by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available.

However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out.
Some very close contests between all the cars listed here, which means:

• Individual preference can prove to be more crucial than objective superiority.
• Buyers will have a lot to like about each of the options featured.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Toyota Etios GD

Toyota Etios Used 4

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 35,237 / List Price: Rs. 470,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 778,000

Why buy: This first-owner sedan comes in a magnificent silver color that is bound to raise the style quotient. One of the most efficient and powerful cars in its range, this has the right combination of cost-effectiveness along with long-term mileage to secure a spot on the top of this list, and ideally, in your garage, too.

Buy it here

Recommendation #2: Honda Amaze 1.5 S i-DTEC

Honda Amaze Used 8

Year: 2017 / Mileage: 44,878 / List Price: Rs. 450,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 706,000

Why buy: Another first-owner car and a dazzling one in a graceful white orchid colour at that, this sedan is in excellent condition, complete with insurance and inspection. There is not much to separate between this and the Etios in top spot, except a tiny difference in efficiency.

Buy it here

Recommendation #3: Ford Aspire Trend 1.5 TDCi

Ford Aspire Used 1

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 32,162 / List Price: Rs. 475,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 716,000

Why buy: This cyan sedan has a number of things going for it. Its favorable mileage, standard price, and freshness. Also residing with its first owner, its only downside is the relatively higher price, making it the costliest pick on the list. Having said that, its durability should prove to be a good return on investment.

Buy it here

Recommendation #4: Hyundai Grand i10 Astra 1.1 CRDi (O)

Hyundai Grand I10 Used 3

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 44,235 / List Price: Rs. 441,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 699,000

Why buy: Mileage may be substantial for this car, but this first owner white hatchback is still in fabulous condition. At a considerably cheaper rate than the ones above it on this list, this is definitely a smart buy, and should deliver adequately for a handful of years.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Hyundai Grand i10 Magna 1.1 CRDi

Hyundai Grand I10 Used 4

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 48,000 / List Price: Rs. 410,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 606,000

Why buy: Another first owner white hatchback rounds off this list. There is little to choose between this one and the i10 beating it to the penultimate spot, except the difference in price, which proves to be less of a decisive factor than the mileage reading.

Buy it here

In Summary

Hyundai may have two cars on this list, but it does not have the best ones, although the gap between first and last is not massive. All the manufacturers involved in this list provide something different, which makes this series of recommendations particularly interesting. Another aspect to note is the competitive price ranges and similar mileage tallies, all of which add up to making the market for middle range diesel cars in Mumbai a fiercely competitive one.

Mahindra Thar 700 Special Edition reaches showrooms: Images

Mahindra announced the limited edition Thar 700 in the Indian market days back. It will be limited to only 700 units and is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. After the price announcement, new limited edition Thar has been spotted in the showrooms. The pictures come from the 4X4 India group admin Shibu Varghese.

Thar 1

The car was spotted at a Mahindra dealership in Bengaluru. At Rs 40,000 extra, the Mahindra Thar 700 gets a few extra features. This will be the last 700 units of the current-generation Mahindra Thar in the Indian market before the all-new Thar launches in the market early next year. Since the all-new Thar will get a different platform altogether, the on-road behaviour of the vehicle will be quite different than the current Thar.

Thar 2

Nonetheless, the Thar 700 limited edition gets a special decal on the side with the signature of the Mahindra bossman – Anand Mahindra. The Thar 700 comes in two colour options – Aquamarine Blue and Napoli Black. The Thar seen here in the posts is the Aquamarine colour, which is inspired by the Mahindra Marazzo.

Thar 5

Other extra features that will be offered with the Mahindra Thar 700 include a new set of 5-spoke alloy wheels, black finish on the grille, silver finish on the front bumper and leatherette upholstery with Thar logo on the front seats. The Mahindra Thar 700 also gets ABS as standard, which is a major difference when compared to the regular model of the SUV.

Thar 3

There are also no changes done to the dashboard of the SUV. It gets the simple set-up with analogue dials and no infotainment system. Engine-wise, the Thar 700 remained powered by the same 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is also available with the regular versions of the Thar. It generates a maximum power of 105 Bhp and a peak torque of 247 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission as standard.

Thar 4

The Thar 700 only comes in the 4X4 variant and it also gets a low-ratio transfer case standard. The low-ratio transfer case makes the Thar quite capable, which is why it remains one of the most preferred choices of off-roading enthusiasts.

Thar 7

Mahindra is currently testing the all-new Thar on the roads and it has been caught under a heavy camouflage on a number of occasions. The all-new Mahindra Thar gets the Gen3 platform that underpins the likes of Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra TUV300 in the market. However, the platform is expected to get heavily modified to make it even more capable on the off-road tracks.

Thar 6

The all-new Mahindra Thar will also become much more powerful than the current version. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre BS6 diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 140 Bhp. It will also get a low-ratio transfer case as standard.

2020 Mahindra Thar rear may look like this when launched

$

Mahindra is currently working on the next-generation vehicles including the all-new Scorpio, all-new Thar and the all-new Mahindra XUV500. However, there is a lot of interest around the all-new Thar, which is expected to receive some mega changes. The all-new Mahindra Thar has been spotted multiple times testing under a heavy camouflage on the Indian roads.

Thar 2

The upcoming Mahindra Thar will look completely different from the car’s current version. There have been quite a few renderings of the Mahindra Thar in the past but for the first time, here is a rendering image of the rear of the Thar. This image has been made by SRK for IAB and it looks quite realistic. The all-new Thar in the images gets a different body set-up altogether. The image shows the hard rooftop version of the Thar. It should be noted that Mahindra Thar was earlier caught with a removable hard rooftop, which will be a quite interesting feature.

The rear rendered image of the Thar also shows the metallic rear door of the SUV with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. It looks much like the Jeep Wrangler. Also, the bright LED vertically mounted tail lamps are a perfect cross between the retro look and modern features.

The all-new Mahindra Thar will use an all-new platform. It will be a modified version of the Gen3 platform that also underpins the cars like Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra TUV300. The all-new Thar will become much more comfortable than the current Thar, which will ensure that the Thar becomes the choice of many who are looking for a car for daily driving. Currently, most Thar owners do not prefer to keep the Thar as a daily driver because of its ride quality and absence of basic equipment.

The all-new Mahindra is expected to get all-new headlamps with LED DRLs. The Mahindra Thar will continue to offer the wide fenders just like the current version of the Thar. On the inside, the cabin of the Mahindra Thar will also get a lot of modern features including automatic climate control system, touchscreen infotainment, a new instrument cluster, MID, power windows, forward-facing rear seats and more.

Thar 1

The all-new Mahindra Thar will also get an all-new engine. It is currently under development and the engine will get BS6 engine. The same engine will be used by the all-new Scorpio and XUV500 too. The new engine will produce around 140 Bhp, which will be substantially more powerful than the current generation of the Mahindra Thar. Also, there will be an automatic transmission available with the SUV. Off-roading enthusiasts will also get the 4-Low transfer case, which will ensure that the Thar will be capable too.

Recommendation #1: Honda City i DTEC VX

Kolkata Used Sedan 1

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 37,298 / List Price: Rs. 459,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 1,319,000

Why buy: This first owner sedan comes in a stylish silver colour and runs on diesel. Spacious and comfortable, economic and powerful, it has all the major factors going for it, from price to mileage. At five years old, it still has a lot more to offer, and is, undoubtedly, one of the best deals in the sedan segment.

Recommendation #2: Maruti Suzuki SX4 ZDi Opt

Kolkata Used Sedan 2

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 36,233 / List Price: Rs. 299,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 953,823

Why buy: Another first owner car, this vehicle is also fueled by diesel and is available in a soothing shade of grey. What makes it an appealing buy is its modest price and the fact that it is yet to touch 40,000 kilometers on the odometer. Potential buyers are definitely looking at a long-term investment here, and a successful one at that.

Buy it on Droom

Recommendation #3: Honda City i DTEC SV

Kolkata Used Sedan 3

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 40,000 / List Price: Rs. 450,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 1.110,000

Why buy: Residing with its first owner, this diesel sedan is a treat for the eyes with its elegant red colour and sharp looks. What affects its saleability is the relatively steep price and distance clocked, both of which are higher than most of its competitors in the category. However, given its track record, it still makes for a sensible purchase, and should run smoothly for a handful of years.

Buy it on Gaadi

Recommendation #4: Maruti Suzuki SX4 ZDi

Kolkata Used Sedan 4

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 41,001 / List Price: Rs. 370,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 897,607

Why buy: Running on diesel, this is one of the more durable cars on this segment with a middle of the range price that does its appeal no harm. Currently placed with its first owner, this white sedan is perfect for dealing with the exhausting traffic of Kolkata, and should be a decent fit for nuclear families, too.

Buy it on Droom

Recommendation #5: Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.6 CRDI EX

Kolkata Used Sedan 5

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 35,000 / List Price: Rs. 411,600 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 962,000

Why buy: This spick and span first owner car is immediately eye-catching because of its bright cherry red exterior. Running on diesel, it may not pack the same punch as the options above it on this list, but can be the best match for beginners or those looking for a transitional car between two big purchases.

Buy it on Droom

In Summary

Sedans in Kolkata for this price range will always be in high demand, and all these five cars are viable buys, primarily because of their reliable performance. Brand loyalty may play a factor in your decision in this category, but five top-of-the-shelf cars mean that most buyers will be spoilt for choice. MG Motor will launch the Hector SUV later today. The Hector is a rebranded Chinese SUV called the Baojun 530, which has been significantly re-engineered to suit the Indian market. The MG Hector is expected to rub shoulders with the likes of the Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500, and is a 5 seat SUV. A 7 seat version of the Hector is likely to arrive early next year. As for pricing, MG Motor could pleasantly surprise us by pricing the Hector at par with the Tata Harrier, or even slightly cheaper. The SUV has already begun reaching MG Motor dealerships across India and test drives have begun. Even pre-bookings of the SUV have begun. MG builds the Hector at the former General Motors factory in Halol, Gujarat, which is now owned by SAIC – the company that also owns the British car brand MG.

The petrol engine also gets a 48V mild hybrid powertrain to reduce fuel consumption and tail pipe emissions.

Both engines get 6 speed manual gearboxes that drive the front wheels while the non-hybrid version of the turbo petrol engine is also available with a 6 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox. The Hector will not get a four wheel drive layout even as an option but what the SUV will get is a bunch of segment leading features, with which MG Motor will try to attract SUV buyers who have many SUVs to choose from in the 12-20 lakh rupee segment.

Do check out our review of the MG Hector!

Mahindra Roxor, which is sold as an ATV in the USA market has gained quite a popularity among the enthusiasts in the country. It is sold as an All-terrain vehicle, which makes it illegal on the public roads. The Roxor is basically the redesigned version of the Mahindra Thar DI and due to its popularity in the USA, there is a range of accessories available with the car. The latest official accessory available with the Mahindra Roxor is the Mattrack.

Mattrack is like a caterpillar track that is used on the battlefield tanks. It is available with the dealerships of Mahindra and can take the capability of the Roxor to the next level altogether. The cost of the fitment is USD 16,995, which translates around Rs 12 lakh. But it will be worth the money if the Roxor becomes a mountain goat with the new Mattrack and conquers the most difficult terrains.

The official accessory is also listed on the Mahindra Roxor’s website. According to the information available, the zRX Mattrack system improves the overall ground clearance of the Roxor too. Apart from that, it massively improves the traction that can make the Roxor go anywhere. It is not known if the individuals can also install it or it needs professionals to install.

The Mattrack comes with specifically developed rubber torsion anti-torque system and full rubber torsion suspension. It offers a smooth ride and the whole system has been designed keeping the weight saving in mind. The zRX is made up to HSLA steel frame and aluminium drive sprockets. It also gets a Z-style track that offers optimum ground clearance.

The Mahindra Roxor was launched in the USA market last year and gets a price tag of $15,549, which roughly translates into Rs 11 lakh. It is made to be extremely rugged and gets the steel frame just like the Indian-spec Mahindra Thar. However, the Roxor is a bare minimum vehicle and does not get any infotainment system. There are many other optional accessories available with the Roxor including off-road-spec tyres, a soft rooftop, off-road-spec tyres, side and rear view mirrors, audio system and grab handles. Mahindra also offers a wide range of colour options and wrap options on the Roxor too.

Mahindra Roxor 1

the two-seater Roxor gets powered by a 2.5-litre M2DICR turbocharged diesel engine. It produces a maximum of 64 PS at 3,200 rpm and peak torque of 195 Nm between 1,400 rpm and 2,200 rpm. It is the same power and torque output of the Thar DI, which was earlier discontinued in the Indian market due to the safety norms. The Roxor gets a top speed of 72 km/h. It gets a 4X4 transfer case and manual transmission option. Mahindra offers an automatic option with the Roxor with a special edition model.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country ever since its launch in 2005. When it first graced our shores, it revolted the hatchback game completely, which till then was filled with options like the Hyundai Santro, WagonR, Alto and a few others. The first generation Swift was stylish, was a hoot to drive, and was a great budget hatchback overall along with being a modder’s favourite. The third generation Swift continues the legacy in a more modern and stylish avatar. It still is one of the most modified cars in the country and some good examples from around the country can blow your mind. Here are 5 such gorgeously modified 3rd gen Maruti Suzuki Swifts that can make you go weak in your knees.

Dark Samurai

Swift Mod 1

Before we start, let me tell you that the nomenclature of these cars is done by me and not their owners, who might call their beloved by another name. Talking about the Dark Samurai here, it has been modified extensively and looks smoking hot. The shiny dark blue-violet paint shade adds a certain depth to this car’s character which led me to call it the Dark Samurai. The headlights and the foglights are new aftermarket pieces while a body kit has been applied across the body of the car. Custom LED DRLs and that red detailing on the grille further enhance its looks but those gorgeous alloys certainly take the cake here.

Silver Arrow

Swift Mod 2

Next up is the Silver Arrow (No Mercedes references here), which was almost named as the silver surfer but a change of mind resulted in otherwise to happen. This Swift makes the silver paint shade on it stand out from the heaps of silver cars on our roads. The paint shade is complemented by the dark shades across the body. It has been equipped with a Swift Sport body kit which is responsible for the major overhaul this car seems to be now. The headlamps have been replaced by aftermarket projector units and also come with LED DRLs. Simple yet outstanding, that’s the silver arrow for you.

Angry Lowrider

Swift Mod 3

It looks angry due to that face and is a lowrider, hence it’s an Angry Lowrider. Don’t look at me like that folks, sometimes simplicity is the key of renowned writings. Jokes aside, the modified Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the best full aesthetic mod jobs we have seen on a third generation Swift till date. It also gets a Swift Sport body kit bolted on it as on the car above but the owner has added a few more touched that enhances its look. The lip splitter at the front and the white lamp eye-shadows give it an aggressive stance while the silky white paint shade gives it an air of nobleness. The whole package is completed by those amazing rims and a roof-mounted rear spoiler.

GlamStar

Swift Mod 4

The GlamStar, as its name suggests, is a cool looking car with a gleaming wrap job around its body. It gets a front lip splitter and side skirts along with a rear diffuser, all in black. This body kit adds to the sporty look of the car. The aftermarket front headlamps with matrix indicators and LED DRLs along with the chrome tipped nose surely make for one deadly combination on this car. Those mesmerizing alloys further heat things up on this car but the centre stage is taken by the gleaming red wrap job which makes it stand apart from the crowd.

Red Hot

Swift Mod 5

Last on this list is another red Swift, though this time it’s not wrapped in the chrome wraps. It gets a lower body sports kit which includes the front spitter, side skirts and the rear diffuser. The owner of this red hot Swift has fitted with quad exhaust tips along with a big spoiler at the rear. The alloy wheels on this Swift are among the best I’ve seen on a Swift and give it a drool-worthy look. The blacked out headlamps have been fitted with Porsche style LED units which is quite unique to see. An aftermarket sunroof has been added on the mod list too, making it one hot looking Swift.

Honda Civic vs Maruti Suzuki Dzire in a drag race: Who Wins? [Video]

$
0
0

Since a very long time, a drag race between cars has been the deciding factor when talking about performance and speed. It has evolved into a popular sport and almost every car is pitted in this competition against another car or some times against several vehicles. The video below by Sanjeet Jaat does just that with two popular Indian cars. The cars in this drag race are a Honda Civic while its competition here is a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Let’s check out the video to see which one of them wins the race, though most of you must have already put their money on the Civic.

As seen in the video, the results are not what most of you might have expected. A total of three rounds were conducted in this drag race video and all of them were won by the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Both the Dzire and the Civic here are the older generation models, which is the reason we are calling the Dzire here as Swift Dzire (Swift was removed from its name with the launch of the 3rd gen model). Getting back to the results in hand, let’s take a look at the specifications of these cars before we jump on a conclusion.

Talking about the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire first, as it is the winner here, it is a diesel powered model and comes with a manual gearbox. The sub-4 meter sedan gets a 1.3 litre Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine under its hood that pumps out 74 Bhp of power along with 190 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the car weighs 1,045 kg.

Dzire Vs Civic

Talking about the Honda Civic, it tips the scales at 1210 kg. The older generation Civic used in the video here was powered by an in-line four-cylinder, 1.8-litre petrol engine which churned out 130 Bhp of maximum power along with 172 Nm of peak torque. It came mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission that sent power to the front wheels.

Talking about the reason for the Civic’s defeat, one important point to be noted here is that this particular Civic has an odometer reading of more than 1.2 lakh kilometres, which means it is not in its best state. If a car is not maintained properly and has done such a great distance, the engine and other mechanical perform marginally less efficiently than they did when the car was at its best. Secondly, though the Dzire has lesser power output than the Civic, it weighs almost 300 kilograms less than the Civic which gives it an advantage. Lastly, the car’s driver is also an important factor in any drag race as a car is only as good as its driver.

Ford EcoSport & Mahindra XUV300: Buyers prefer diesel to petrol

The BSVI emission norms will kick in from the 1st of April, 2020. After this date, only BSVI compliant vehicles will be allowed to be sold in the country, though vehicles bought before this date will remain unaffected. What this has resulted in though is the recent announcement by several companies to stop the production of diesel engines by April 2020. This is because upgrading a current lot of diesel engines to be BSVI compliant will be a very costly endeavour which, as several manufacturers are thinking right now, will not reap any benefit. Looking back at the sales of vehicles in the sub-4 meter SUV segment for the fiscal year 2018-19, we see that the diesel models were in more demand than their petrol counterparts.

Mahindra Xuv300 Accessories 1

Talking about the Ford Ecosport, the American manufacturer sold a total of 46,265 units of the vehicle between April 2018 to March 2019. Out of this number, 16,029 were petrol powered variants while 30,236 of them were powered by diesel engines. This means that the sales of the diesel engine powered Ecosport models was almost double the sales if their petrol counterparts.

The same is the case with the  Mahindra XUV300. which was launched in the month of February this year. In the last Fiscal year, Mahindra sold a total of 9,532 units of the XUV300 out of which 2,744 units were powered by a petrol engine while 6,788 units were powered by a diesel engine. Talking about the whole segment, around 81% of the total cars sold were powered by diesel engines. What this means is that the sales of the vehicles in this segment will be affected if the diesel engines are put off. However, nothing can be said for certain right now as brands like Maruti Suzuki have said that they can continue the diesel engine if enough demand for the same persists.

Ford Ecosport Thunder Edition 1

Talking about the Ford Ecosport, its petrol variants get powered by a 1.5 litre 3 cylinder naturally aspirated unit that makes 123 Bhp-150 Nm. The gearbox is a five-speed manual. The diesel engine is the 1.5 litre 4 cylinder TDCI turbocharged unit with 98.6 Bhp-215 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual gearbox as well. Higher variants of the Ford EcoSport get the petrol-automatic trim, where the petrol engine is paired to a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Apart from this, there is another 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine available on the Ecosport that pumps out 124 Bhp of power along with 170 Nm of torque.

The Mahindra XUV300’s petrol engine is a newly developed 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder turbocharged unit that churns out a maximum power of 110 Bhp and a class-leading 200 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine is a 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder unit that churns out a maximum power of 115 Bhp along with 300 Nm of torque. Both engines get 6-speed manual gearboxes as standard. An automatic transmission option is not available on the XUV300 yet but the company is already developing an AMT box for the car. This gearbox will be made available later this year.

0

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are among the most successful celebrity couple in Bollywood. With all the fame and riches they possess, it is natural for them to have a fleet of high-end luxury cars. The couple married last year in a big fat gala wedding event. Now that they are living together, their combined garage is quite a delight to chance upon. Here are the set of wheels that drive Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh across the roads of India.

Aston Martin Rapide S

The Aston Martin Rapide S is one of the sexiest four-door sports coupe one can buy right now. It is also the most expensive vehicle in the couple’s garage and was bought by Ranveer Singh. The British beauty was bought by Ranveer a few years back and he has been spotted with the car on multiple occasions. It is powered by a big 6.0-litre V12 engine that puts out a hefty 552 Bhp of power and 620 Nm of peak torque. The car has a price tag of Rs. 3.88 crore right now (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Mercedes-Benz GLS

The Mercedes-Benz GLS is the SUV equivalent of the S-Class Saloon. It is one of the newest cars in Ranveer’s garage and he uses it most of the times to reach the events. Ranveer himself takes control of the SUV quite a few times too. He owns the GLS 350d version of the vehicle, which he has customised according to his taste. The GLS 350d gets a matte black paint that gives it a unique finish. All the chrome elements of the vehicle have been blackened out too. The GLS is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine that develops a maximum of 255 Bhp and 620 Nm.

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class

The Mercedes-Benz GLS is the successor of the good old GL-Class, an SUV that also finds space in the couple’s garage. The massive Mercedes-Benz GL-Class was a popular vehicle in the B-Town and has three-row seating that accommodates up to 7 people. It is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that pumps out 258 Bhp of power and 620 Nm of peak torque.

Land Rover Range Rover Vogue

The Range Rover Vogue is one of the SUVs Ranveer Singh owns, though he is not seen with it much these days. It is a last generation model of the SUV and Ranveer was often spotted with his white shade Rangie some time back. The Range Rover Vogue is powered by a range of engine options in the Indian market including a turbo-petrol variant that has power out of 503 Bhp and 625 Nm of torque.

Audi Q5

Ranveer also owns a mid-size SUV in the form of the Audi Q5. The white coloured SUV used to be his regular vehicle until it got replaced with the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLS. The Q5 is moderately powered and gets a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The engine generates a maximum of 174 Bhp and 380 Nm. The Q5 now spends most of its time inside the garage and shares space with the Range Rover Vogue.

Jaguar XJ L

The Jaguar XJ L was one of the first luxury vehicles that Ranveer bought. The L here stands for long wheelbase, which tells us that this is the long wheelbase version of the British sedan. The XJ has been with Ranveer for quite a long time now and he is seen with it even now. Talking about the car itself, the Jaguar XJ gets a host of engine options to choose from, the most powerful one being a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine that generates a maximum of 296 Bhp.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Ever since Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz in India, Ranveer Singh has been the brand ambassador of the sedan and has been endorsing it on various occasions. The company gifted one to Ranveer when it was launched for the first time in India. It is also the most affordable car in his garage, though he does not use it as a regular vehicle.

Mercedes-Maybach S500

The lovable couple also owns a Mercedes-Maybach S500, which is the most luxurious model in the S-Class lineup. The car is used by both of them on several occasions and is a regular sight on Mumbai roads. The Mercedes-Maybach S500 is brought in India via the CKD route after which it is locally assembled. The luxurious sedan gets powered by a 4.7-litre engine that churns out 459 Bhp of power and a peak torque of 700 Nm.

Audi A8L

Before the Maybach S500, Deepika used the Audi A8 L. It is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and a more powerful 4.2-litre V8 diesel engine. Deepika has been spotted in a black coloured Audi A8 L too but it is quite possible that the vehicle is not owned by her.

Audi Q7

Q7

The Audi Q7 has long been the flagship SUV of the four-ringed German brand until that position was recently acquired by the Q8. The Audi Q7 was also the first luxury vehicle owned by Deepika Padukone. The actress used the SUV as her regular ride for several years before she got herself an Audi A8 L.

Kia Seltos compact SUV launch date revealed?

$
0
0

According to ACI, Kia Motors could launch the Seltos compact SUV on the 22nd of August, which is nearly 2 months away. The Kia Seltos will be the South Korean automaker’s first vehicle for India, and will use the Hyundai Creta’s platform. Other attributes such as styling, engines and the interiors will be totally different though. Why, the Seltos is even manufactured in a totally different factory that Kia Motors has set up in India, at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Days ago, Kia Motors revealed the Seltos through a global unveil that was held right here in India. The SUV will go on sale globally by the end of this year and the automaker’s home market of South Korea will get it first, within the next few days. Kia Motor is yet to commence official bookings for the Seltos, and in the coming weeks, an official announcement regarding the same is likely.

Kia Seltos 5

The Kia Seltos sold in India will be offered with three engine options, two in petrol and one in diesel. The petrol engines will be the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated unit with 115 Bhp-144 Nm and a 1.4 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit with 140 Bhp-244 Nm. The diesel engine will be a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit with 115 Bhp-250 Nm. All three engines will be Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant right from the outset. 6 speed manual gearboxes will be standard on all three engines, and a choice of not one, not two but three automatic gearboxes will be offered.

The Seltos is the first affordable car in India to get three automatic gearbox options. The 1.5 liter petrol engine will get a CVT automatic gearbox option while the 1.4 liter turbo petrol motor will be offered with a 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel will get a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Kia is expected to price the Seltos quite competitively as the automaker is said to have extensively localized the SUV.

Kia Seltos 3

Prices of the new SUV could start from around Rs. 10.5-11 lakhs, making it marginally pricier than the Hyundai Creta. At this price tag, the Seltos will undercut competition coming from the MG Hector, Tata Harrier and the Mahindra XUV500. The top-end Seltos could be a lot pricier than the Creta though, with more features on offer, larger dimensions and more engines and gearboxes for the customer to choose from. Kia has begun setting up dealerships in most big cities of India, and in the coming weeks, display versions of the Seltos SUV are likely to arrive at these dealerships. So, keep your eyes peeled out for Kia dealerships in your city. Who knows, you could manage to snag a test drive or two before anyone else.

Are you looking for used premium hatchbacks but have budgetary constraints? Is 5 lakh the most you are willing to spend? Are your demands specific to Pune? If your answer is yes, then worry no more, for we have you covered with a comprehensive list for your requirements.

You might think your demands are too specific, but even with your specific needs leading car websites will leave you with too much on your plate. Moreover, they will have listings of cars that have not been neatly sorted, and hence are not in a position to give you the best deal. How do you arrive at choosing the perfect car then?

Used car websites are usually of little use, even with their multiple filters. The task of making sense of the information is still yours, and who wants to be digging a data mine? Fortunately, we have got just the right solution for you through the Cartoq TRUE PRICE.

The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on June 25, 2019; so, by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available.
However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out.

Two manufacturers feature on this list, with Hyundai dominating, which means:

  • Competition is little to non-existent, it is effectively a Hyundai exhibition.
  • The Hyundai Grand i10 Sportz is the car to keep a keen eye on in this segment.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Hyundai Grand i10 Asta 1.2 Kappa VTVT (O)

Used Car Pune 1

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 45,000 / List Price: Rs. 369,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 640,000

Why buy: Currently with its third owner, this petrol premium hatchback sports an immaculate white and is in terrific condition. Yet to tick over to the wrong side of 50,000 kilometers on the odometer, this vehicle will give you guaranteed efficiency, reliable on road performance, and smart looks, culminating in a complete package worthy to top our list.

Recommendation #2: Hyundai Grand i10 Sportz 1.2 Kappa VTVT

Used Car Pune 2

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 17,500 / List Price: Rs. 375,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 613,000

Why buy: Another car which comes in a dazzling white, this is a first owner car, fueled by petrol. Its paltry distance covered is enough proof that it has plenty of years left in the tank, while its middle of the range price should not be a deterrent for potential buyers. A compact fit for second spot on this list.

See it on Droom

Recommendation #3: Ford Figo 1.2P TREND MT

Used Car Pune 3

Year: 2016 / Mileage: 15,112 / List Price: Rs. 410,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 592,000

Why buy: Available in a stunning shade of silver, this is also with its first owner and runs on petrol. Given its age and mileage, it is virtually semi-new, which means that buyers should not shy away from paying the relatively higher price. Arguably the strongest car on this compilation, this would make for a bold yet sensible purchase.

See it on Droom

Recommendation #4: Hyundai Grand i10 Sportz

Used Car Pune 4

Year: 2015 / Mileage: 35,852 / List Price: Rs. 400,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 611,000

Why buy: Armed with comprehensive insurance, this vehicle belongs to its first owner currently, is powered by petrol, and comes in a sophisticated shade of grey. Not the most spectacular option on the list, this still has enough attractive features and a good balance between price and utility to land up in your garage.

See it on Gaadi

Recommendation #5: Hyundai i20 2015-2017 1.2 Asta

Used Car Pune 5

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 19,000 / List Price: Rs. 475,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 720,000

Why buy: Also, with full insurance and in a debonair grey, this first owner petrol vehicle rounds off our list. Notwithstanding its freshness on the road, its price sends it spiraling down our compilation. But should you be looking to spend a little more for a car that is assured to last another four to five years, this one might just be what you are looking for.

See it on Gaadi

In Summary

Ford has a very solid car on this list, which will definitely make for a smart buy, but only if you are not tempted by the bevy of options from Hyundai. Structurally and performance wise, the Hyundai Grand i10 is a car that should suit Pune, a fact reflected in this list. With a number of attractive looking cars backed up by consistent performance, the ball is in your court as you make up your mind on which one to take home.

Mumbai police to BUST vehicles with ‘Police’, ‘Press’ &‘Judge’ stickers after High Court orders

$
0
0

The Bombay High Court has ruled that private vehicles should not sport logos or letters pertaining to ‘Nyaydhish’, ‘Judge’ or ‘Metropolitan Magistrate’. Following the high court order, the Mumbai Police department has swung into action and is now acting against private vehicles that sport ‘police’, ‘press’ and ‘judge’ stickers.

Police Stickers

Confirming this development, Madhukar Pandey, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai had this to say to DNA.

People use the logo as a way to violate traffic rules and get away with it. Moreover, many cases of impersonation have also been recorded where they fleece money from unsuspecting motorists who either jump a signal or violate some other traffic rules. These stickers are easily available in the market for as low as Rs 15, allowing anyone to paste it on the windscreen of the cars or motorcycle’s mudguard or number plates.

A lot of private vehicles in India sport such stickers, in the hope that they will not be harassed by police officials, and also to flout laws without worrying about penal action from police officials. However, sporting such stickers on private vehicles amounts to misrepresentation, and in some cases, is also impersonation. These are serious offences, and violators can even be jailed for such offences.

As per the Per section 134 (6) of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules (MMVR) and section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA), displaying a word, figure, drawing or sticker on private vehicles carries a fine of Rs 200. This need not be ‘police’, ‘judge’ or ‘press’ and can include any random sticker. Cops in Mumbai have begun cracking down on vehicles sporting ‘official looking’ stickers on private vehicles after owners of such vehicles have begun to routinely flout the law. Parking offences are said to be the most common form of rule breaking by such vehicles, and in a city like Mumbai where space of every kind is at a premium, this comes as no surprise.

Indian roads are known for being extremely dangerous mainly due to motorists flouting road rules without worrying about consequences. Although there are strict laws to deal with almost every traffic offence, enforcement is lax and police officials are corrupt. The Indian government plans to tighten the screws on traffic rule violators with an amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act. This amendment could become law once the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Indian parliament) passes it. The amendment will increase traffic fines in a big way, hoping that this will deter violators.

The Tata Harrier is priced between Rs 12.22 lakh and Rs 19.65 lakh. The Tata Harrier is the only vehicle in the segment that does not offer a petrol engine option at the moment. Since the price overlaps each other by quite a much, here is something that will help you decide the correct choice between the four cars mentioned above.

Want a city runner?

Hyundai Creta petrol automatic

The size of the SUVs is growing bigger while the space on the roads is shrinking. Hyundai offers the perfectly-sized vehicle to tackle the city roads. Wider and longer SUVs can become cumbersome to drive around in heavy traffic. Whereas, a car similar to the Creta size can be a life-saver and allows worry-free to drive through the traffic. Hyundai Creta offers an automatic transmission with the 1.6-litre petrol engine of the model. It generates a maximum power of 122 Bhp and 151 Nm of peak torque.

Are you feature-frenzy?

Mahindra XUV500

new mahindra xuv500

The Mahindra XUV500 is the only 7-seater car here. It comes in 5+2 configuration that offers ample of space in the third-row. The seats can be tumbled down to make extra space too. However, if you have a large family that goes on weekend drives often, then there is no other choice in the segment except for the XUV500.

Want an intimidating car

Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier 8

While many may argue that the MG Hector gets a more aggressive stance, it is the Harrier, which is the widest car in the segment. The width of the Tata Harrier with the strikingly bright LED DRL make the Harrier an instant head-turner. It has a catchy design. The MG Hector is the longest car in the segment but the 17-inch tyres on the car look a bit smaller on the huge body, which makes it less than intimidating on the roads.

Want a spacious cabin?

MG Hector

13mg Hector Petrol Hybrid Diesel

While all the SUVs listed here have a huge cabin except for the Hyundai Creta. But when it comes to space, the MG Hector rules it all. It is the longest car in the segment with the longest wheelbase. The 5-seater car has ample space in the rear seats that allow the occupants to sit comfortably over the long journeys. The MG Hector also offers reclinable rear-seats, which is a first-in-segment feature.

Want a city car to take on occasional highway runs?

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta comes with both petrol and diesel engine options and the automatic transmission is available with both the engine options. If you’re looking for a car that can do daily commutes to the office and is a lovely weekend partner on the highways, the Hyundai Creta diesel automatic is the one to choose. It has the perfect size for the city traffic as mentioned above and comes with an automatic transmission, which makes the journey very easy.

Challenging road trips?

Mahindra XUV500 AWD

2018 Mahindra Xuv500 1

If you’re one of those who love to take their vehicles to challenging locations and off-beat tracks, the XUV500 AWD is the one to go for. It is the only SUV in the segment that offers an All-wheel-drive option. The XUV500 AWD is a pretty capable car and can take you to places. It also gets an AWD lock that keeps the AWD engaged all the time.

Best value-for-money?

Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier 19

Tata has always been known for its value-for-money price tag in the market. The Tata Harrier is no different. Even though the MG Hector is priced lower than the Tata Harrier in the segment, it gets a petrol engine while the Harrier only gets a diesel engine. The diesel version of MG Hector is priced at Rs 13.18 lakh, which is more expensive than the Rs 12.99 lakh price tag of the Harrier. Even the Mahindra XUV500 gets an affordable variant, which was recently launched. However, the Harrier base variant offers features like keyless entry, start/stop buttons, LED DRL, adjustable steering wheel for tilt and reach, manual AC, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, four disc brakes, rear parking sensors and speed-sensing door locks.

Meet one of BEST modified 3rd gen Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchbacks on Video

$
0
0

There are a few cars in our country which have always been a hit with the buyers, even after being in the market for more than a decade. The Maruti Suzuki Swift is a prime example of this case as it still sells like hotcakes. First launched in 2005, the Swift has earned a reputation for being a fun family hatchback in a budget. It is also a popular car in the mod circuits across the country and several crazy looking examples are present across the various parts of India.

The third generation model of the Swift was launched in the market just last year which is the reason why not many nicely modified examples of the latest gen Swift are not seen generally. However, the video below by GOKZ MOTOGRAPHY shows what can be deemed as the best modified 3rd gen Maruti Suzuki Swift in the country right now

No doubt that this car looks completely ravishing and looks red hot even when it’s painted white. It gets a new aftermarket body kit that gives the car a sporty look. This body kit is inspired by the Suzuki Swift Sport that is sold in several international markets. The Sport variant of the Swift was long rumoured to be coming to our country but plans to bring it here were finally shelved by Maruti Suzuki last year citing a lack of market interest. Let’s now see what all changes have been done on this Swift which gives it this killer looks.

Swift Mod

Starting from the front, it gets an aftermarket bumper with a larger front grille and larger fog lamp housings. The bumper also features a lip spoiler, though we doubt it would give much gain to the car’s performance. The car has been painted in a shimmering white paint shade which is further complimented by all the black elements present on the exteriors. The aftermarket headlamps with LED DRLs further add laurels to this build.

Swift Mod 2

Unlike the stock Swift which has many chrome elements on the outside, this one gets a completely badass look minus any chrome. In fact, the only shiny bits on the exteriors of this car are those gorgeous alloy wheels shod on with wider, low profile rubbers. The lower side body gets skirtings that are a part of the body kit equipped on the car.

Swift Mod 3

Coming to the rear end of this gorgeous-looking Swift, it gets a huge roof-mounted gloss black spoiler mounted on the roof. The rear bumper is a new aftermarket unit and now features black inserts with an underbody spoiler. Without a doubt then, this modified Maruti Suzuki Swift is one hell of a looker and probably the best current generation Swift in India right now.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has gained a lot of attention in the Indian market. The all-new car has become the best-selling seven-seater in the country and gets a proper dominating look. The all-new Ertiga gets a new platform and also looks much bigger than the older version of the car. Ertiga being a family-oriented car is not very popular in the modification circle. However, here is a modified Ertiga that looks classy, sporty and the right amount aggressive.

Ertiga 1

The modification is done by Autohub. The all-new Ertiga seen in the pictures can be seen with a new body kit that adds various kinds of panels on the body of the car. Starting from the front, the all-new Ertiga gets a new bumper insert and a skid plate in the front. The silver coloured skid plate makes the car look classy. It also adds a rugged look to the whole set-up.

Ertiga 2

On the sides, it gets skirting that adds a fuller look to the body and also makes the car look closer to the ground without interfering with the ground clearance. At the rear, a new bumper is added that comes with an integrated splitter. The rear also gets the dual-exhaust tips integrated to the rear bumper and there is a bright red insert that looks very aggressive. It surely changes the way the Ertiga looks.

Ertiga 3

It should be noted that in the Indonesian market, Suzuki offers a sports version of the Ertiga with some aggressive modifications. However, there are no such plans of launching the aggressive looking Ertiga in the Indian market. However, Maruti Suzuki is working on bringing the Ertiga Cross, which is expected to be launched in the coming months. The Ertiga Cross will look different from the regular version of the MUV. It will get thick plastic cladding on the outside, which will add a rugged look to the vehicle. Even though the car has been caught testing under a heavy camouflage quite a few times on the roads, it is not known what exactly the final version of the car will look like.

Ertiga 4

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is currently available with three different engine options. There is a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.3-litre diesel engine option. The 1.3-litre diesel engine also gets SHVS smart hybrid system that ensures outstanding fuel efficiency. However, Maruti has announced that they will stop selling the diesel-powered models in the Indian market when the BS6 norms are in place. It should be noted that the Ertiga will be sold through the Toyota dealerships in the coming times, just like the Baleno-Glanza rebadged models.

Tata Harrier will be as powerful as Compass soon: Here is how!

Tata Harrier, which was a much-awaited SUV in the Indian market was launched in the Indian market at the starting of this year. The all-new Tata Harrier became the talk of the town because of its Land Rover D8-derived OMEGA platform and very unorthodox looks. Tata launched the Harrier with only a single engine and transmission combination. But soon, we may get to see a new combination and the Harrier becoming as powerful as the Jeep Compass.

Tata Harrier 21

Currently, the Tata Harrier gets a 140 PS engine while the Jeep Compass diesel gets a maximum power of 170 PS. It is quite interesting as both the cars are powered by the exact same engine. Tata’s 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine that powers the all-new Harrier is sourced from Fiat. In fact, it is the same Multijet diesel engine that powers the Jeep Compass diesel in the Indian market.

In the Tata Harrier, the engine produces a lower power because of the tuning but both the models get the similar torque output of 350 Nm. Now, the BS6 norms will be in place from April 2019 and the Tata Harrier will get a power boost! Recently, a heavily camouflaged version of the Tata Harrier was caught testing alongside the Jeep Compass test cars. It seems like both the cars are testing the new upgraded version of the Multijet engine, which will meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms.

But the big news here is the Tata Harrier’s power increase. With the new BS6 engine, Tata will also offer the full potential of 170 PS with the 2.0-litre diesel engine on the Harrier just like the Jeep Compass. The same engine powers the MG Hector, which also gets the same 170 PS – 350 Nm output like the Jeep Compass. This will put the Tata Harrier at par with the Jeep Compass and MG Hector while it will become more powerful than the Mahindra XUV500.

Tata will launch the new powerful version of the Harrier only next year when the BS6 implementation is near. With the updated engine, Tata may also introduce an automatic transmission with the Harrier. Currently, the Harrier is only offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, with the updated version, Tata is expected to offer a 6-speed automatic transmission, which will be sourced from Hyundai. It is the same transmission that is available with the Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market. The new automatic variant will be the most expensive version of the car.

There has been a lot of demand for automatic transmission-powered cars in the Indian market lately and with the addition of the transmission in Harrier, we can expect a jump in the sales number of Harrier in the coming year. Tata is not expected to add a petrol engine to the Harrier yet.
