Jaguar gets stuck in Mumbai floods: Mahindra Bolero drives through like a BOSS [Video]

$

A low slung sedan and flooded roads don’t go together. A Jaguar luxury saloon found out the hard way earlier today, in a flooded underpass at Airoli, Navi Mumbai. The Jaguar stalled and got stuck in the flooded road. Repeated attempts by the driver to restart the car didn’t help matters, and the Jaguar remained stuck in rising waters. At the same time, a Mahindra Bolero pick up truck nonchalantly drove through the same stretch of flooded roads, making it look very easy. Check out the video we’ve lined up for you.

This brings out the sharp contrast in how a low slung sedan and a pick-up truck perform in a similar situation. While luxury sedans and hatchbacks perform very well on good roads, bad roads and difficult conditions require a vehicle that’s a lot tougher and sturdier. This is the reason why most Indian car buyers are now opting for SUVs in a big way. Luxury sedans like this Jaguar here offer a luxurious cabin, capable engines and enjoyable driving pleasure but are not meant to be trodded on non-asphalt surfaces. Taking such cars in deep waters or other such conditions can result in what this video depicts so accurately.

Talking about the Mahindra Bolero pick-up, it may not be an off-road vehicle but it comes with a high ground clearance along with a high torque producing engine that enables it to go over the flooded underpass. In fact, the Bolero pick-up is a pretty rugged vehicle that can easily take up a lot of beating without any complaints. Do note that one should always avoid driving through high waters no matter how capable a vehicle is. Except if the vehicle has been fitted with a snorkel and a few other such bits which enhance its water wading capacity, going over high water levels is dangerous. In the worst-case scenario, this can result in the engine getting hydro locked which basically means that water has entered the insides of the engines.

In case of high-end cars like the Jaguar here, the engines use big turbochargers to churn out more power from a small displacement engine. However, this makes them even more prone to water damage as the turbo can suck in the water and get damaged. Replacing a turbo is something that you won’t be looking forward to as it costs a bomb and needs skilled technical assistance. The availability of parts is another issue. Also, more expensive cars come with a lot of electronic circuits for the creature comforts and other functionalities. Water can easily wreak a havoc with a car’s electrical system and render several functions useless.

Bolero Jaguar Featured

Floodwater damaged cars then end up in used car markets where they are sold off at low prices. However, a car which has once been damaged due to waterlogging will never function the same and hence one should always make sure to check an attractively priced car for any water damage.

In case you are unfortunately stuck in a car with water all around you, the first thing you must do is to try getting out and leave the car where it is. If a car is badly stuck in water once and the engine has stopped, chances are low that it will start again but staying inside can endanger your life if the water level rises. If the doors get locked and can’t be opened, try breaking the side window using the headrest by hitting towards the edges.

Used car websites are usually of little use, even with their never-ending filters. The task of making sense of all the information is still yours, and who wants to be drowning in data? Fortunately, we have got just what you need to get rid of all such hassles through the Cartoq TRUE PRICE.

Cartoq True Price Featured

By deploying the Cartoq TRUE PRICE, we help you identify the best deals. The Cartoq Data Science team has built a Machine Learning model that estimates the TRUE PRICE of a used car, after accounting for all sorts of variables – brand, model, age, mileage, and car type. With all factors accounted for, the model predicts the TRUE PRICE, which then becomes the basis of comparison across cars. The best deals are those where listed price is lower than the TRUE PRICE. So, we scan through the car listings across major used car sites, compute their TRUE PRICE, and present the best deals for you.

The shortlist for this article was based on the analysis we ran on August 27, 2019; so, by the time you read this article, there is a good chance that the specific car may no longer be available.

However, this list still provides plenty of useful pointers even if certain specific cars have already been sold out.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto shows fine form on this list, which means:
• A solid price and utility balance is intact as ever.
• All five cars have barely stressed the odometer, making them ideal for the long haul.

Without further ado, let’s check out our top recommendations.

Recommendation #1: Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 VXi 2014

Maruti Alto Used 15

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 23,000 / List Price: Rs. 191,100 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 308,000

Why buy: Currently with its first owner, this petrol hatchback comes in a sky blue colour and is bound to grab your attention at the first glance. With a paltry mileage, modest price, and impressive endurance, this is a worthy occupant of top spot on this list.

Recommendation #2: Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi 2014

Maruti Alto Used 16

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 27,000 / List Price: Rs. 215,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 334,000

Recommendation #3: Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 LXi 2014

Maruti Alto Used 17

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 6,130 / List Price: Rs. 200,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 295,000

Recommendation #4: Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi 2014

Maruti Alto Used 18

Year: 2014 / Mileage: 22,000 / List Price: Rs. 220,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 334,000

With a seamless on road track record and no glaring weaknesses, this is the perfect fallback option at number four.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi AMT Airbag 2017

Year: 2017 / Mileage: 22,212 / List Price: Rs. 319,500 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs. 433,000

Why buy: Fueled by petrol and placed with its first owner, this hatchback comes in a bright red colour and unlike the other cars on this list, has freshness in terms of age to back up its low reading on the odometer. The only possible deterrent is its relatively steep price, which is the sole factor behind this car sliding to the bottom of this pack.

Buy it here

In Summary

The Alto often gets overshadowed even in the hatchback category by more apparently glamorous cars. But it proves its worth time and again through collections like this one, where its full range of features is there for buyers to witness. All five cars are feasible purchases on this list, but if you do not mind spending a little more, the fifth car could yet be the one that makes it to your garage in the final reckoning.

Hyundai has been working on the updated version of the Verna since sometimes now. A couple of weeks back, we brought you a few images which showed the Hyundai Verna facelift without any camouflage for the first time. Now, however, the upcoming model has been clicked in its production form. The images here by xcar show the upcoming C-segment sedan in its full glory. These images were clicked while the Verna was being put up for its upcoming world premiere at the upcoming Chengdu Motor show in China, which kicks off from the 6th of September.

Hyundai Verna Facelift

As is the case with other Hyundai cars, the Verna facelift also carries a radical design transformation which makes it look like a generation upgrade. The front end looks completely different from the current model in a good way. The overall design, though, is similar to other facelifted sedans by Hyundai including the new Sonata and te updated Elantra, both of which are not yet available in the country right now. The big grille upfront is now positioned lower and is broader than ever. It gets thick satin chrome bars along with a Hyundai logo in the middle.

Hyundai Verna Facelift 4

The headlamps are much more angular and larger than the ones found on the outgoing model. The same edgy design is maintained over the bumper too. Lower variants may sport an all-black grille and will be less flashy than the one here. Hyundai is known to spec its cars decently and hence the new Verna could feature all-LED headlamps, though only on the top-end variants. Coming to the sides, we see new stylish alloy wheels on the car. Hyundai will offer silver alloys on the lower end variants while the top-end variants will get diamond-cut dual-tone alloy as on the car here.

Hyundai Verna Facelift 2

The rear end gets similar tail lamps as on the current model but they are now longer and a thin strip runs between both of them. The boot design is all-new with the license plate position shifted to a lower end of the boot. The boot lid gets a slight kink towards its end and apart from, a dual-tone faux-diffuser is seen at the lower end of the bumper. On the inside, the new facelifted Verna is expected to come with a larger touchscreen setup along with connected car features.

Hyundai Verna Facelift 3

Speaking of the engines, the India bound Hyundai Verna facelift models will get a new set of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. These engines will be BS6-compliant and will be used on the new generation Hyundai Creta as well apart from a few other new Hyundai models in India. Expect the facelifted Verna to be launched here by the second half of 2020.

Honda City: Used Car Buyers’ Guide

Honda City: Know the car

On sale since 1998, the Honda City has been one of the oldest selling car models in India. Into its 4th generation, the City is due for a complete makever and Honda might showcase the 5th generation model at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Honda City single handedly created the C segment market and ruled it for years to come. Even today, it gives a tough fight to the lower priced Maruti Ciaz in terms of monthly sales. Since 1998, Honda has updated the City with an all-new generation model every five years. This also means the current model, the 4th generation one, is due for a replacement.

The City started its life as a performance sedan and moved on to the role of providing a good mix of comfort, space and driving pleasure over the years. Today, it offers the highest brand recall in the segment and enjoys a premium over its rivals.

The Honda City currently retails from Rs 9.8 lakh onwards for the petrol line-up and Rs 11.1 lakh onwards for the diesel range. This makes it the most expensive C segment sedan in India.

Brief history of Honda City in India

Honda City Generations

The first generation model was launched in 1998 in two engine options of 1.3 petrol and 1.5 petrol. Known for its performance and unmatched dynamics, Honda added a VTEC variant that offered even more thrills.

The second generation model, launched in 2003, was a complete departure and focused more on comfort, space and fuel efficiency. It was offered with an optional automatic transmission and continued to sell in good numbers.

The 3rd generation model got launched in 2008. This model offered best of both the worlds in terms of driving pleasure, comfort and features.

Another five years later, in Jan 2014, Honda launched the 4th generation or the current model and introduced a diesel engine for the first time. Minor updates in the past few years, with a major one in 2017, have kept the model alive and kicking. A 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-lite petrol are on offer with the latter available with an optional CVT automatic.

New Honda City car: Typical buyer profile

In the first few years of sale, the Honda City was one of the most expensive locally produced vehicles in India. It was a sedan that consumers looked forward to purchasing some day and when they did, it was seen as a milestone in their life and upped their social status.

Today, the Honda City continues to enjoy the best brand recall in the segment in terms of its premium appeal. It is a hit with consumers in metro cities, specially the younger and corporate crowd. Rear seat space and comfort also makes it a very good chauffeur driven vehicle. The City is also an automatic upgrade for most Brio and Amaze customers once they complete 3-4 years of ownership.

Used Honda City car: Typical buyer profile

The Honda City is an aspirational car in India and so is a used City. It is an upgrade that small car users want to accomplish and this helps them step into a prestigious sedan segment, leveling the playing field with their peers and even seniors. No matter used or new, a Honda City does command street cred as compared to other sedans.

A used Honda City is also ideal for someone looking at chauffeur-driven car for weekdays. The rear seat comfort is best in business. A used diesel Honda City is preferred for those who are looking at extremely low running costs without sacrificing on the plus points spoken above

Key positives: Honda City

Honda City Used Car Third Generation Photo

The Honda City is known to offer a very good balance when it comes to various needs by a typical consumer. It’s an easy-to-drive car with light controls and peppy engines. Further, space and comfort is top notch, feature list is impressive (including a sunroof) and the boot, at 510 litres, is among the largest in the segment.

The diesel model, sold from 2013 onwards, offers a torquey drive with exceptional fuel economy figures. The petrol CVT delivers a fuss-free driving experience while the manual model is a hoot to drive for enthusiasts.

Key negatives: Honda City

Build quality of the Honda City has gone down over the years. The earlier models of the fourth generation City do suffer from various issues which we will discuss below.

Though there is ample leg / knee room at the back, headroom is limited. Handing is neutral but not to the liking of driving enthusiasts. Likewise, it misses out on the solid build of its European rivals, the diesel motor is noisy and the petrol engine is weak on low-end punch which is essential for city commutes. The low ground clearance means even mild speed-breakers will hit the underbelly if driving with a full load of passengers (for very careful drivers, this is not an issue). And finally the price – the Honda City commands of a premium of Rs 2-3 lakh over its immediate rivals like the Maruti Ciaz.

The ideal Honda City used car one can buy

Honda City Interior

Ideally, it is best to look out for the current generation model that was launched in Jan 2014. As this fourth generation model has been on sale for over five years now, finding a used one for as low as Rs 4.5 lakh is possible.

In 2017, the same model got a refresh and if you have a larger budget, that of a premium hatchback, you can opt for this facelift edition of the current Honda City. Such used examples are easily available for Rs 6.5 lakh.

A used third generation Honda City ain’t a bad deal as well. However, in metro cities, most of these examples come with aftermarket CNG kits and these should be avoided at all costs. Also, make sure the car has been serviced regularly at authorized workshops only as post purchase experience can throw up a lot of surprises in terms of maintenance costs.

Do note that a used Honda City diesel is only available on the current, fourth generation model. The City manages to hold its resale value nicely but good bargaining skills will help you get the price down.

Buying newer and older used Honda City sedans

Given the popularity of the Honda City and the fact that it has been on sale for over 20 years, find a good used example isn’t tough. However, you need to be keep a few things in mind.
The first generation model, sold till 2003, offered very good performance but at the cost of creature comforts and safety. Needless to say, if you do come across one, chances are, it would have run a lot of miles. So it’s best to skip this one.

The second generation Honda City (2003-2008) sold in even higher numbers and the used car market is full of these. But again, our advice is to stay away from these until unless you have a budget of less than Rs 2 lakh.

The third and current (fourth) gen models are the ones recommended if you are looking for a used Honda City. Again, always insist on service history and avoid the ones that have after-market CNG kits installed.

Honda City used cars for the enthusiast buyer

Honda City Used Car Buyer Profile

The Honda City isn’t an enthusiast’s car in terms of driving dynamics. The first generation model however offered an optional VTEC variant that offered over 105 horses and was a hoot to drive for that era. However, it’s hard to find a less used example. As this is the first generation, be prepared to wait for parts when replacements are needed.

The best bet would be to buy a post 2014 model of the current generation and put aside some money for after market parts. South East Asian market have ample products for upgrading the suspension, brakes and perfor-mance at a reasonable price. Stick to a manual and voila, you will have a sedan that offers comfort, space, brand value and goes like stink!

Current Deals

Buying Advice

As discussed earlier, its best to leave out used Honda City examples from the first two generations. The best bet is to put your money on the current model that went on sale from Jan 2013.

This model however wasn’t completely trouble free. This includes twitching behaviour at higher speeds, poor headlamp throw, rattles from the body, water leakage among other issues.

If possible, avoid cars sold from Jan 2014 till about mid 2014 as we are assuming Honda might have worked on improving the cars post customer complaints.

Apart from this, most used Honda City examples suffer from underbody damage due to low clearance.

Used Honda City sedan: Typical maintenance issues and problems explained

1. Twitching at higher speeds can be due to various reasons. This includes a faulty steering rack or steering column joint and even improper alignment of wheels. So when you take a used Honda City for a spin, try using roads with less traffic so that you can drive the car at higher speeds and keep an eye on this problem.

2. The only way to overcome weak headlamps is by changing over to after-market bulbs from companies like Philips. These have the same wattage but the difference in illumination is huge.

3. Rattles and squeaks are something owners will have to live with. This is also true for improper panel gaps. Do ensure during the test drive, you go over bad or broken roads and try to make out noises from within and outside the car. A thorough inspection and tightening of nuts and bolts at a workshop might take care of this but only to an extent.

4. If you see signs of water leakage in a used Honda City, the way out is by changing the door beadings.

5. Some cars have also reported of faulty and noisy alternator belts. When you start the car, if you hear a sharp grinding noise from under the hood, it will probably have to do with alternator belt that needs a replacement.

6. Certain service centers might not do a good job. Always check with other Honda City owners in your city about the authorised service centers in your area to figure out which does a good job.

Used Honda City Service Costs

This is a premium brand and yet the cost of service thankfully isn’t too high. For example, if you buy a used Honda City that needs a routine service at 50,000km, you would be spending just Rs 3,500 for a petrol model and less than Rs 5,000 for a diesel one (official Honda figures).

Likewise, the major service at 1 lac km will cost just over Rs 7000 for a petrol City and less than Rs 10,000 for a diesel one. These are official charges that you will need to pay at an authorized Honda workshop.

In terms of spares, it a bag of mixed beans. While an alternate belt or door beadings are not expensive, a new steering rack or column will set you back by a huge amount, including that of labour charges.

Used Honda City: Expected real world fuel economy

The Honda City comes with certified economy of 17.8 kmpl for the manual petrol, 17.9 kmpl for the CVT automatic and as much as 26 kmpl for the diesel manual version. These figures are for the latest fourth generation model.

In real world too, the City delivers good fuel economy. For a city like Delhi, if you end up using higher gears, a used Honda City petrol will deliver about 12-13 kmpl while a diesel will do close to 20 kmpl.

Maintenance and service tips for Honda City used car

Honda now offers service cost transparency by displaying what you will pay for various service intervals for the Honda City. This can be seen on their website and allows buyers of used Honda City from the 3rd and current generation to understand the actual maintenance costs. As we see, routine maintenance isn’t too high and hence we recommend you to stick to official Honda workshops in case you opt for a used Honda City.

Used Honda City sedan: What to avoid

The first two generation models are old now and can be avoided if you want a hassle-free ownership experience. The earlier units of the fourth generation, launched in January 2014 can also be ignored as these had minor niggles which can lead to frustration over a period of time.

Ideally, if you are planning to buy a new compact sedan or a premium hatchback and have a budget of Rs 6-7 lakh, pick a 3 year old less used Honda City. In this budget, you can get a manual petrol, an automatic CVT and even a diesel variant. Most options will still be under company’s extended warranty.

Our recommendations

All the models sold from Jan 2014 look similar. A minor update came in 2017 but a used Honda City that is 2 years old will demand a high price. Hence, we say, stick to a 2014 or a 2015 used example.

For a 2015 Honda City that has run less and is in pristine condition, you will end up paying less than Rs 5 lakh, that too for a diesel one that has low running costs.

What Alternatives

The Honda City’s chief rival in the market of C segment sedans is the Maruti Ciaz. The latter has a lower sticker price which means if you opt for a used Maruti Ciaz, you will end up saving money over a similar spec used Honda City. For example a diesel Ciaz that is 3 years old can be had for almost Rs 5 lakh post negotiations.

A used Hyundai Verna is another alternative to a used Honda City. However, do note that the rear seat comfort or space isn’t in the same league. That said, the 1.6 diesel of the Verna excels in performance and smoothness. Like the Ciaz, a used Verna too can be had in a lesser amount than a similar spec used Honda City. Expect to pay Rs 5 lakh for a three year old Verna.

The C segment market has other used options like the Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and the Toyota Yaris. All these have sold in less numbers and hence their resale value is extremely poor.

Tata Altroz spotted without any camouflage before official launch

Tata is working to launch the all-new Altroz in the Indian market, which will be the brand’s first-ever premium hatchback. The all-new Altroz will take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the market. The all-new Altroz will be launched in the coming few weeks. This is not the first time the Tata Altroz has been spotted without any camouflage in the Indian market.

Tata Altroz 2

The all-new Tata Altroz was shared by Prateek Pati on Instagram and it seems like the vehicle was parked at the Tata’s facility. Tata officially showcased the all-new Altroz at the Geneva Motor Show. However, the version that will go into the production will be a bit different from the Geneva Motor Show version. The all-new hatchback was earlier spotted in the Tata facility and once on the public roads when it was reportedly going to a studio. Nonetheless, the new image indicates that the vehicle is production-ready.

Tata is likely to launch the new Altroz by the end of this year or in January next year. It should be noted that Tata has already confirmed that the Altroz will be the official lead car of the Mumbai Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on 19th January.

The all-new Altroz will not get the split headlamps like the Harrier but the front lamps are positioned in a way that they look split. The main headlamp cluster is extremely sleek and is housed within the grille of the vehicle. It looks like an elongated grille with the headlamps positioned on either side. The fog lamps of the Tata Altroz are quite big in size and are positioned just below the main headlamp clusters. Both the lamps are separated by a thin slot of the bumper. The car has been designed in accordance with the new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy, which was first seen on the Harrier.

The cabin of the Tata Altroz will be quite comfortable and the dashboard will be heavily inspired by Tata Harrier. Even the instrument cluster of the Tata Altroz will be similar to the Harrier and it will get a similar digital-analogue dial. However, the design of the instrument cluster in the Altroz will be slightly different as it will offer a more squarish look. The all-new Tata Altroz will get new-age features like a floating-type infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Powering the Altroz will be a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which is likely to produce similar power and torque figure as the Nexon. There will also be a 1.5-litre diesel engine option. However, initially, Tata may only offer the 1.5-litre diesel engine option and add the petrol engine later.

Hyundai Venue has become the best-selling Utility Vehicle in the Indian car market after taking over the sales of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the market. The all-new Venue was launched earlier this year and is extremely popular in the market. The all-new car is currently available only after a few weeks or even months after booking it due to the high demands. However, here is a Venue from Bangalore, Karnataka, which is on sale and the asking price is lower than the price of the new car.

Hyundai Venue 2

The Hyundai Venue seen here has been posted on OLX and the location of the car is in Bangalore. The asking price is Rs 8.5 lakh and the car has done only about 3,800 km. It was registered in May 2019 and it is in almost new condition. The vehicle that was put up of sale is a diesel-powered version. According to the post, it is the SX variant. A brand-new Hyundai Venue diesel SX is priced at Rs 9.78 lakh, ex-showroom. The on-road price of the car is expected to be around Rs 11 lakh. It is not known why the seller is offering the vehicle at such an affordable rate.

The Hyundai Venue is an extremely popular vehicle in the market at the moment and there is a long waiting period on almost all the variants available in the market. This is a diesel variant of the Venue, which is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. It produces a maximum power of 89 Bhp and peak torque of 220 Nm. As per official ARAI test, the Venue diesel returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 23.7 km/l.

Hyundai Venue 3

Even though the SX variant is not the top-end trim of the Venue, it offers a range of features including a sunroof, leather-wrapped gear knob, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, 8.0-inch infotainment system with Arkamys speakers, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, projector fog lamps, LED daytime running lamps, automatic headlamps, pLED tail lamps, wireless charging, Electronic Stability Program, Hyundai connectivity solution with integrated eSIM card, air purifier, voice recognition, automatic climate control system with digital display shark-fin antenna, aftermarket rear-seat headrests, supervision instrument cluster, steering-mounted controls, cooled glove box, all four power windows, double-stitched upholstery and a lot more.

Since the vehicle is only a few months old, it gets the manufacturer’s warranty, which ensures peace of mind for a long time to come. Also, there are other benefits like the free Internet connectivity for the duration of the warranty, free services and more.

Hyundai Venue 4

There have been a few Hyundai Venues on sale in the recent past and all of them got sold off the used car market pretty quickly. Since the vehicles are still in warranty, the buyer does not think much about it.

Upcoming Kia Carnival Spotted testing in India: Will rival Toyota Innova Crysta [Video]

After launching the all-new Seltos in the Indian market, Kia Motors is now focussing on its next product, which will be an MPV. Kia Motors has already confirmed that the all-new Carnival will be launched in the market in the coming months and has now started testing the vehicle on the Indian roads. After the upcoming Carnival was caught testing with the Toyota Innova Crysta on the Indian roads, more pictures of the vehicle have arrived.

Kia Carnival 1

The Kia Carnival will be a premium MPV and will be positioned much higher than the Innova Crysta in the market. However, the higher-end variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta will take on the lower-variants of the Carnival. The vehicle seen here in the video comes with roof-mounted storage, which will be a perfect accessory for the long-distance tours.

The Carnival will also be much larger than the Toyota Innova Crysta. Also, it will come with a range of segment-first feature. One of such features has been demonstrated in the video too. The Kia Carnival gets the electronic sliding doors for the rear passengers. The electric doors can be controlled through gesture. A few Kia officials can be seen in the video operating the sliding door by a double-tap. They first do double knock on the door and the electrically-powered door starts to slide and opens completely. Tapping on the open door again will slide the door to the closed position.

Kia is a young brand in the Indian market and to attract customer attention, it will price the vehicle smartly. Seltos, the first car from the brand in the Indian market received an overwhelming response in the first month itself. So much so that the car has now become the best-seller in the segment after replacing the Hyundai Creta from the top spot.

The Kia Carnival is expected to be launched in both 7-seater and 6-seater variants to cater to a wide range of customers. Even though the manufacturer will target the Toyota Innova Crysta in the Indian market, it should be noted that they do not plan to sell a large number of MPV in the market. Kia currently projects a monthly sales of about 1,000 unit for the Carnival. The Toyota Innova Crysta currently sells around 6,000 units every month and stays on the top of the sales chart.

Kia Carnival 2

Since the Kia Carnival is much bigger in size than the Innova Crysta, the price tag on the vehicle will also be on the higher side. The Innova Crysta’s base model is priced at Rs 15 lakh while the Carnival’s base version may cost around Rs 20-22 lakhs.

Currently, the engine options for the upcoming car are not known. However, Kia may use the 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 199 Bhp and peak torque of 441 Nm.

MG Hector BEATS Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 & Jeep Compass

The MG Hector has just outsold its direct competitors in a big way. The 5 seat SUV, which is largest in its segment, has just beaten the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass, by selling 2,018 units in August 2019. In comparison, the Mahindra XUV500 managed 928 units, the Tata Harrier did only 635 units and the Jeep Compass fell to a low of 605 units.

Mg Hector Real Reasons Featured

MG Motor is sitting on an order book of over 25,000 units, which means that the Hector will have a steady 2019, at a time when most automakers are really struggling to maintain sales momentum. We expect the Hector to clock about 2,000 units a month or even go up to nearly 3,000 units as MG Motor has planned a production increase to reduce waiting times. Currently, MG dealers are not accepting fresh bookings for the SUV as the automaker works hard to reduce waiting times and service current orders.

The MG Hector, launched earlier this year, surprised buyers with a very competitive price tag of Rs. 12.18 lakhs. This pricing meant that the Hector undercut all its competitors – the Tata Harrier, the Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass. Currently, the SUV is a 5 seater, and has a 7 seat variant coming in during early 2020. There are 3 engines and 3 transmission options on offer. The more affordable variants get the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbo petrol engine with 141 Bhp-250 Nm outputs. This engine is available with 6 speed manual and 6 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox options.

5hector Vs Harrier

The other powertrain on offer is a 48V petrol mild hybrid unit, and uses the same 1.5 liter turbocharged engine in conjunction with an electric motor. The petrol mild hybrid version gets a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard. The diesel motor is a 2 liter Fiat Multijet unit with 170 Bhp-350 Nm, and a 6 speed manual gearbox accompanies it. All variants of the the Hector are front wheel driven, and MG Motor has no plans to offer a four wheel drive layout with the monocoque bodied Hector.

Key selling points of the MG Hector are is imposing dimensions, which make it the longest SUV in its class, a feature-rich interior, sharp pricing across variants, an attractive buy back scheme, and a massive touchscreen infotainment interface that adds many connected car features to the SUV. Key features on offer include 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, hill start assist, 360 degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, traction control, a panoramic sunroof, the 10.25 inch Tesla-style touchscreen infotainment unit with on-board internet, navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a reclining rear seat. The SUV is built at the erstwhile General Motors factory in Halol, Gujarat. MG Motor also offers the MG Shield, which consists of a 5 year warranty, 5 free services, free road side assistance package and a buy back scheme.

India’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki is currently working on a new small hatchback, the S-Presso, Scheduled to be launched on the 30th of September, the S-Presso is the production version of the Future-S Concept that was earlier shown at the Delhi Auto Expo. The micro-SUV like stance of the car suggests that it is aimed squarely at the Renault Kwid. Though the car has been spied on numerous occasions, there are no clear pictures of the car without camouflage to date. In its final stages of development, several details about the upcoming car are already out but to get you an idea of how the car could look like, here is a render of the car that shows the possible design of the S-Presso. Let’s now check out the video below by Yogi Sejwal Design that shows how this render was created.

The render here shows quite a modern and stylish take on the S-Presso. The production-spec model may look a bit different but this render gives one a glimpse of how the design could turn out to be.  On the front, this one gets a sleek grille which goes all the way around the headlamps. The bonnet is quite high up while the bumper design is also quite muscular, which makes the front end look pretty bold. Though this render shows stylish alloy wheels and low profile tires, the production-spec unit will not get them to maintain the pricing.

Spresso Front Render

The side profile carries a tall boy look that is seen on other Maruti cars like the WagonR and Ignis. Towards the rear, the same tall stance continues with sleek horizontally placed tail-lights and a silver diffuser. All across the car, black cladding has been plastered on the lower end to give the vehicle a more rugged appeal. According to the information leaked until now about the S-Presso, the hatchback will get a dynamic central control, commanding high seating position, best-in-class ground clearance, enhanced 10 plus safety features and large cabin space.

Spresso Rear Render

Maruti Suzuki plans to position the car such so as to aim young professionals, college-going students and people who are looking to buy a stylish car as their first vehicle. For the same, the manufacturer has gone for a bolder and SUV-inspired bold front-end.  On the inside, it is expected to get a floating-type touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with Suzuki Smart Play system. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS+EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alerts, seatbelts and more. The engine details of the S-Presso are not known but it is likely to get two petrol engine options, which will be similar to the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. There will be a 1.0-litre petrol engine while a more powerful version with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. When launched, the S-Presso will rival the likes of Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid among others in the Indian market and  will be sold through the Arena dealership network

In the very first month of its Indian entry, South Korean automaker Kia Motors has beaten 7 automakers here, many of them established names such as Ford, Volkswagen, Skoda, Jeep, Nissan and Renault. Another new entrant MG Motor has also been beaten by Kia, all thanks to the Seltos compact SUV’s excellent sales numbers of 6,236 units in the very first month of its launch in India. Kia Motors launched the Seltos on the 27th of August, with a sharp starting price of Rs. 9.69 lakhs, ex-showroom. The Seltos rivals the likes of the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross and Nissan Kicks in the compact SUV segment. In price terms, it also competes with the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the MG Hector. Thanks to the Seltos, Kia now has a 3.62 % market share. In contrast, market shares of Renault, Ford, VW, MG Motor, Nissan, Skoda & Jeep stand at 2.9 %, 2.8 %, 1.2 %, 1 %, 0.7 %, 0.6 % and 0.3 %.

6kia Seltos Petrol Diesel Review

Renault, Ford, VW, Nissan and Skoda have been in the Indian market for close to a decade or more while Jeep entered the market a couple of years but has been present in India for years with Fiat. MG Motor is a brand new entrant though, after Chinese automaker SAIC took over General Motors’ Halol factory in Gujarat, and launched the British car brand in India. Coming to the hot selling Seltos that’s propelled Kia to 7th place in the very first month of its introduction, the SUV is offered with 3 engines, and 4 gearbox options. Both petrol and diesel engines offer manual and automatic gearbox options, making the SUV attractive to a large set of buyers.  It’s feature-rich, has luxurious interiors and a host of segment leading features that make it the hottest compact SUV in the country.

Kia Motors will follow up the Seltos with another compact SUV and a MPV. The MPV is called the Carnival, and will rival the Toyota Innova Crysta, and will be launched in 2020. The compact SUV will be a sub-4 meter offering that rivals the likes of the Maruti Brezza and the Hyundai Venue. Kia is also planning to launch an electric vehicle, and it could be a small SUV. The automaker has set up a brand new factory at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Though Hyundai owns a significant part of Kia Motors, both automakers operate independently in India. However, they will share platforms, and Hyundai could also use unused capacity at Kia’s Anantapur factory, which currently manufactures a single vehicle – the Seltos.

Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon test drive review : the new sporty commuter?

2001 is when Bajaj launched the Pulsar brand name in the Indian motorcycling segment and ever since this name has been associated with sporty and affordable performance oriented motorcycle. Can the same DNA be carried forward to the smallest capacity Pulsar yet? With these thoughts in mind, we went down South to Pune to ride the new model. Was I impressed?

3bajaj Pulsar 125

I will start with the design here. Bajaj wanted to carry over the same theme and brand name to a younger and wider audience which means the Pulsar 125 looks identical to the Pulsar 150. And hence you do get a good looking motorcycle, one that looks substantial for a 125cc. Infact, this new Pulsar 125 has the longest length and wheelbase in the segment.

Our test bike came in a shade of dark grey and looked good under the soft sun of post-monsoon showers here in Pune. The contrasting finish for Pulsar logo on fuel tank, the grab rail and other little details in similar shade on the alloy wheels and side panels does look good. The bikini fairing, tank and side panels are too familiar now and help give the bike its own identity. Even the speedometer console has been carried over without any changes. That said, there is no ABS light (this one gets CBS or combined braking system) on this one.

16bajaj Pulsar 125

The Pulsar 125 is based on its elder sibling and this means it makes use of the same underpinnings too. Its a tried and tested chassis and the suspension components, brakes and tyres are a carry over as well. This also means the bike is heavy, topping the charts at 140 kg (kerb weight) which makes it heavier than bigger bikes like the Yamaha FZ and the Suzuki Gixxer!

You also get the same riding posture as the P150 which means you sit upright with a slight sporty stance and I must add, the clip-ons do look nice for the segment. The seat is slightly on the harder side but overall comfort levels are above average and will be preferred by most. I got a chance to spend about 3-4 hours with the bike and once rain gods showed some mercy, took the bike for an extended spin.

13bajaj Pulsar 125

And this gets us to the biggest change in the bike – its heart. The new 125cc engine is based on the Pulsar 150’s unit but with a shorter stroke. Yes, this gets a short stroke unit, one that loves being revved all the way to 10,000 rpm before the limiter cuts in. In the process, it does over 35 in the first and just a shade over 55 km/ in the 2nd gear. Outright performance is excellent given that this is a 125cc unit and thanks to a good top end and the 5th cog, you can see over 100 km/h easily.

11bajaj Pulsar 125

But the new Bajaj Pulsar 125 will be spending a lot of time on city roads in traffic and this is where riders will appreciate the new found NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels. Till about 6000rpm, the pegs, bars and tank remain smooth and it’s only when you go North of 8000rpm is when the tingling sensation comes in. The exhaust note and engine sound also remind you of its elder sibling.

In terms of numbers, the Pulsar 125 is the most powerful bike in its segment and puts out 12 PS of power as compared to 14 on the P150. Torque drops from 13.4 Nm to 11 Nm which is similar to the torquiest bikes in the segment. We are also glad to see the 5-speed gearbox being carried over (gear ratios unchanged) though the shift action could have been better. On our test bike, finding neutral at standstill was a game of sorts.

10bajaj Pulsar 125

Thanks to a smaller unit, efficiency has gone up by about 15%. Though it’s not a match for most other bikes in the 125cc segment, it is a small pay off for an otherwise well performing engine. The tank capacity however has gone down from 15 to 11.5 litres.

I love the fact that the Pulsar 125 feels as dynamic as its elder sibling. Inspite of the longest wheelbase in its class, flickablility remains good and high speed manners further earn brownie points. Brakes are a carry over too (240mm front on the bike you see here) though the overall bite could have been better.

9bajaj Pulsar 125

At Rs 64,000 for the drum version and Rs 66,618 for the front disc equipped model you here, the Pulsar 125 is a tad cheaper than the Honda Shine SP but expensive than all other rivals. If you picture in the Pulsar 150, you save about Rs 5000 in terms of on-road price and get a (more) frugal bike. But will this gap be enough for garner good sales figures for this new model considering Bajaj’s other 125, the Discover is a good Rs 4000 cheaper than this new kid on the block? We hope the ‘Pulsar’ brand name is strong enough to do justice to the development of this all-new bike. This truly is a good stepping stone for young guns and biking enthusiasts into the Pulsar family.

PS: Before we end, the dual-seat Pulsar 125 that some websites have carried is for Andhra Pradesh only and has been introduced there to rival the Hero Glamour.

Biker gets a Rs 25,000 challan: Sets Hero Splendor on fire

$
0
0

Within a few days of the implementation of the new MV Act in India, the challan receipts of absurdly high amounts are going viral on the Internet. Only a few days back, a Honda Activa rider received a challan of Rs 23,000 and an autorickshaw driver was issued a ticket of Rs 47,500. Well, a biker from Delhi was issued a fine of Rs 25,000. What he did at the scene is quite shocking.

After the cops issued the challan, the biker set his Hero Splendor on fire in front of the policemen. The incident happened in Sheikh Sarai, Delhi. According to the police, the bike was stopped during a regular checking for the documents. The cops flagged down the rider when he was spotted riding the motorcycle without a helmet. When he stopped, the cops found out that he was in an inebriated state. The rider also could not produce any documents and record for the motorcycle he was riding. The cops issued a challan of Rs 25,000 and asked him to submit it in the court.

The rider, who was in a drunken state did not take the incident well. He set the Hero Splendor on fire in front of the police officials present on the spot. The cops immediately called the fire tenders to douse the fire. It is not known how much time did the fire tender take to reach the spot. However, in the video, we can see that the firemen are using all kinds of things to douse the fire on the Hero Splendor. In the end, they were able to put out all the fire but it is not known if the bike could be saved.

Bike Fire Delhi Challan Featured

Also, it is not known if the person was arrested for the incident. It should be noted that doing such activities on the roads and destroying property on the public roads is illegal and the person can get arrested. Delhi Police has also not said anything about the incident except for the fact that the person who did this was in a drunken state.

The new traffic rules became active from 1st September 2019. To curb the disobedience on the public roads and ensure that everyone follows the rule, the government has increased the fines by multiple folds. The Indian roads see a large number of accidents every year and many of them turn fatal. With the new rules in place, the government wants to ensure that every motorist on the road follows the traffic rules properly, which will bring down the number of accidents on the roads.

Many states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Punjab have opposed the new rules and have said that the fines are too high. These states continue to use the previous set of rules.

This Tata Harrier is up for grabs at CHEAP: Rs. 1.5 lakhs discount on a barely used car

$
0
0

The Harrier is among the best looking SUVs on the market right now and is also a great package overall. Though its sales have dropped of late, the Harrier has a pretty loyal fan following across the country. Prices for the Harrier start at Rs. 12.99 lakh for the base XE variant and go all the way up to Rs. 16.75 lakh for the XZ Dual Tone variant. For those interested in the Tata Harrier, one of the key areas of issues is the long waiting period across most cities of India. For the same, here is a used Tata Harrier SUV that is available to be taken instantly and is priced much lower than its original on-road price.

Harrier Used 1

What’s the deal?

This grey Tata Harrier you see here is the XM variant which has an on-road price of Rs. 17.05 lakh in Delhi, which is also the place where this car is available for sale. Its seller is giving away the vehicle at just Rs. 15.50 lakh, which makes it a decent deal to say the least. While the XM is not the top-end trim, It is not the base model either and comes with several useful features, though alloys are amiss here. The odometer readout of this car stands at 4,303 km, which is a very low figure. It has a zero depreciation insurance on it and is with its first owner as of now.

Why Should I go for it?

Harrier Used 2

The decision of buying a used car or a new car depends solely on how you intend to use the car and more importantly if you are comfortable with the notion of owning a used car. If the latter is not a problem for you, this Tata Harrier comes across as a decent deal. It has only covered around 4,300 km till date (though the seller says 3,000 km, the instrument cluster pic bared it all) which means the engine and gearbox have been used for a very little of their capacity.

Harrier Used 4

Further, you’ll be able to cut on the waiting period as the car will be yours as soon as you pay the amount and transfer the car in your name. Hence, instead of months, you’ll get the car in a matter of days. Also, since its the XM variant, it comes with decent features like an infotainment system and leather seats among others. The asking price of Rs. 15.50 lakh is around Rs. 1.50 lakh cheaper than the on-road price of the Harrier XM.

Any risks I should know of?

Harrier Used 3

There are no special risks involved with this car as far as we guess, but then there are several other precautions one must keep in mind while buying a used car. This includes checking the service history, driving the car around to get a feel of it, checking the condition of the battery and the tires and checking the engine bay for signs of ill-maintenance. Better to get the vehicle inspected by a skilled mechanic who can give you a detailed report of the car.

If interested, you can check out more details about the car and contact its owner by clicking here.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class is an easily identifiable vehicle when it comes to luxury cars. In fact, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a highly regarded vehicle in the market and there are many who dream of this very same vehicle. There are numerous celebrities who have the S-Class their choice of wheels and these vehicles can keep on going for a lifetime if they are maintained properly. Well, we all know how the depreciation works, especially on the used cars whose value come down quite rapidly. Here is an S-Class, which has gone through the same and is currently priced lower than a brand-new Honda City. The asking price of the model is only Rs 10.99 lakh.

S Class 2

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class seen here has been posted on the Facebook Marketplace. It is a 2009 model and the location of the car is in Mumbai, Maharashtra. According to the advert, the vehicle is still used by the first owner. The odometer reading of the vehicle has not been mentioned though. It should be noted that from the pictures, the vehicle seems like in a perfect condition. There are no scratches on the body or any kind of dents and rust.

S Class 5

The car seen in the pictures gets powered b a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. It generates a massive 365 Bhp. Being a petrol vehicle, the S-Class will return a relatively low fuel economy but the kind of smoothness and cabin quietness it offers is unmatched. Especially none of the cars available of Rs 10 lakh in the market can recreate it. Other factory-installed features in the car include leather seats, front and rear electrically operated seats, front and rear seat ventilation, individual rear-seat entertainment system and more such features. The advertisement also mentions that the car seen here has not ever met with an accident.

S Class 1

Since it is a ten-year-old car, the cabin gets the retro design. It offers a wooden insert all through the dashboard and there are no touchscreen infotainment systems like modern cars. However, even the interior of the car looks very well-maintained and in proper shape. It looks really classy with the wooden inserts on the steering wheel, dashboard and the car door panels.

S Class 6

Interested customers can contact the seller directly at +91-9768991996. For verification, one can always ask for the service history of the vehicle. Even the authorised service centres of the brand will have the service records of the car. Also, one should be aware that there is no OEM-warranty on the car, which means that anything that goes wrong will have to be taken care off by the new owner of the car. Nonetheless, these vehicles can outlive their owners if maintained properly and driven smoothly. It sure is a deal that many would not be able to resist.

The interiors of this Seltos have been completely revamped and the cabin now looks as opulent as it can get. Not that the Kia Seltos does not come with good inteiros or the cabin is not well appointed. In fact, the Seltos has the best cabin in its segment right now in terms of features and design among other things. The HT line variants get a more luxury-oriented cabin while the GT line variants come with a sporty looking cabin. This Seltos here though takes things to a whole different level.

Seltos Interiors Modified 4

The abundance of leather and wood makes it feel like a much more expensive SUV than it actually is. The dashboard gets faux wood trim running from the AC vents on one end to the other end. The upper end of the dashboard has been kept black which reduces reflections when driving under direct sunlight. However, the major colour theme here is beige which helps the cabin feel airy and luxurious. Keeping it clean might be a bit tough though as beige and Indian driving conditions don’t really go hand in hand.

Seltos Interiors Modified 2

The seats have been draped in stylish leather covers which also carry the same beige shade as seen on most other components of the cabin. The seats now look pretty premium and have a squared block design. The level of detailing on this car is intricate which is evident by the work done on the door pads. They now feature a black and beige theme along with faux wood trim around the inner handle going all the way to the end of the door pad. This makes it look pretty beautiful and the doors do not stand out as ugly in line with the whole cabin.

Seltos Interiors Modified 5

Talking about the Kia Seltos, the compact SUV rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, and the Renault Duster among others in its segment. The base model of the car has been priced at Rs. 9.69 lakhs and the car comes with 3 different engine options along with 3 auto box options.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Know the car

A replacement for the ageing SX4, the Ciaz was launched in October 2014. It instantly became a hit in the C segment market and went onto become the segment leader for month. Today, it rubs shoulders with the Honda City in terms of monthly sales and is often looked up as an upgrade by hatchback owners, most of whom are already a Maruti owner.

The Ciaz offers excellent cabin space and comes with a choice of a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. A smaller 1.3 diesel was taken off the market in early 2019. While an automatic transmission is offered with the petrol, the diesel comes with a manual transmission only. Do note that the Ciaz is sold via Nexa dealerships only.

Brief history of the Maruti Ciaz in India

Maruti launched the Ciaz in October 2014 with prices staring at Rs 6.99 lakh only as against Rs 8.19 lakh for the base Ciaz today. The car was sold via Maruti outlets till 31st March 2017 and then shifted to Nexa outlets for a more premium feel.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Generations

Over the years, a lot has changed in the car. In September 2015, Maruti introduced mild-hybrid tech in the 1.3 diesel motor, thereby making it even more efficient and taking the diesel motor’s claimed economy to over 28 kmpl. A sportier RS version came out in October 2015 while the first proper facelift was launched in April 2018. This received minor changes in and out.

A larger 1.5 diesel motor was launched in March 2019 and the older 1.3 taken off the showroom floors very soon. The cabin of the Ciaz has remained largely unchanged though the exteriors have been refreshed once.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Typical New Car Buyer Profile

Ciaz Front Profile

The Ciaz has been a natural upgrade for most hatchback users and a majority of these are Maruti owners already. Those who want to skip compact sedans and wish to own a car with a proper 3 box shape or a sedan always have the Ciaz in their final consideration list.

Given the sheer amount of space on offer, especially in the rear seat row, the Ciaz is also a very popular car for those looking at being chauffeur driven. This is also replacing the SX4 as the official car for a lot of government bureaucrats. Pricing is much lower than that of the Honda City and this has ensured good monthly sales for Maruti.

Maruti Ciaz: Typical Used Car Buyer Profile

A used Maruti Ciaz is aimed towards those consumer who have a limited budget of Rs 5-6 lakh but want a large sedan, one that elevates their social standings. Again, due to the space on offer, people are ready to sacrifice a new but a small car, like a hatchback, for a pre-owned but a bigger vehicle.

Then there are those young buyers who are moving up the corporate ladder fast and need to invest into a sedan but without spending deep.

Key positives of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The current generation Maruti Ciaz looks nice and does carry an upmarket feel. This is primarily due to the new lights all around and the alloy wheels on the top spec model. The cabin looks good but most importantly has oodles of space on offer. This is true for the massive 510 litre boot space as well. Likewise, the new 1.5 petrol offers a good mix of performance and economy (its the most fuel efficient in the segment) while the 1.5 diesel remains our pick as being an all-rounder.

Unlike the Honda City, the Maruti Ciaz is also priced about Rs 2 lakh cheaper, making it extremely good value for money. The latest model is also feature loaded with goodies like LED lights, leather upholstery, auto lamps, auto dimming inside mirror, voice commands etc.

Key negatives of the Maruti Ciaz

The C segment sedan market has a lot of cars offering an automatic with the diesel motor and this is missing on the Ciaz. Likewise, though we appreciate the new 1.5 diesel, it is still not a match for the Verna 1.6 in terms of outright punch and smoothness.

The petrol motor is a good all-rounder but might not excite you enough. Even the four speed auto feels a generation old as compared to the ones found on the Vento, Rapid and the Verna. Likewise, the comfortable suspension is good for our typical roads but will keep enthusiasts away. The Ciaz is a car meant to be driven sedately and will not be giving you any grinning moments. Finally, given the low seating, getting in and out isn’t as easy as we would have wanted. Definitely not recommended by older people.

The ideal used Maruti Suzuki CIaz sedan one can buy

If you are in the market for a used Maruti Ciaz, there is not much to pick being the best bet. It will eventually boil down to the budget you have. That said, buying a used car that’s under warranty (stock or extended) is always recommended, hence keep an eye on this important parameter.

Make sure you are looking at used Ciaz examples that have been run less than 50,000 km or so – this is essential to make sure you don’t shell too much out of your pocket for long term maintenance. The facelift edition, launched in 2018 looks better but will demand a higher price in the used car market.

Buying newer and older Maruti Ciaz sedans

The Maruti Ciaz sold in fairly large numbers which means you can find used examples of all ages and mileages. The older lot, of 2015 manufacturing can be had for about Rs 5 lakh which is good considering its about half the original car value in terms of on-road price.

The cars sold till the facelift came in, before 2018, are also available easily and can fetch anywhere from Rs 6 to 7 lakh depending on this condition and mileage. These are the best bet in terms of age and value.

Maruti Ciaz for the enthusiasts: Not the right car!

The Maruti Ciaz has never been about performance or exciting performance and hence car enthusiast should look elsewhere. That said, the RS model launched in October 2015 came with a body kit all around, better looking alloy wheels and a different color theme for the cabin. These did look nice but sadly, performance and dynamics remained unchanged.

Buying Advice

What you should check, and typical problems for the Maruti Ciaz

The Ciaz is largely a reliable sedan and this is one of the reasons for its popularity. That said, check for the steering if it comes back to its centre post a u-turn or not. Likewise, older Ciaz models need to be checked for unwanted suspension sound and damping.

There were a couple of recalls as well:

  1. Zeta and Alpha versions of the Ciaz diesel models manufactured be-tween August and September 2018 : reason is not known
  2. 2.3796 units of the manual Ciaz made till 7th Nov’14 were recalled for a faulty part in the clutch operation system

Used Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan: Typical maintenance issues and problems explained

During a test drive, undertake multiple u-turns to ensure the steering re-turns to its centre position by itself. If not, its better to stay away from the used example.

Drive the car over bad roads to understand how the suspension behaves – although not a major expense, you should keep a track of the used car’s health so that negotiations can happen accordingly.

Recalls are always complimentary and make sure if the car was part of it, the owner took the Ciaz to an authorised service station to have it checked.

Used Maruti Ciaz: Expected Service Costs

Maruti offerings are known to be fuss free and reliable in the long run. Even routine servicing is not very expensive. For upto 80,000 km, you will end up paying an average of 45-50 paise per km for a petrol Ciaz and about 70 paise per km for a diesel one in terms of service costs.

Real-world fuel economy for the Maruti Ciaz

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan is a fairly efficient car including its petrol unit. If you use the higher gears often, expect to get an easy 12-13 kmpl in city runs and 18-20 kmpl on open roads. The same rises to 17-19 kmpl for city and 23-25 kmpl for highway runs in the diesel model.

Maintenance and service tips for Maruti Ciaz used car

Given that this is a car belonging to a higher segment and routine servicing is not that expensive, we reckon you stick to authorised workshops. Expensive parts however can be replaced outside via neighbourhood workshops via OES items.

Used Ciaz: What year and models to avoid

The Ciaz has remained a good car in terms of mechanicals and electronics. There hasn’t been any particular model that required too much attention or was prone to issues.

If you have a budget of Rs 6-7 lakh, we reckon you keep an eye out for 2016-2017 model or a 2-3 year old Ciaz that has run less. If its still under factory warranty, pay extra and get an extended cover of up to 5 years as well. Paying a small premium for a higher version (ZXI/ZDI vis a vis VXI/VDI or Alpha vis a vis Delta) makes more sense as the extra features end up pampering you and your family members alike.

Our recommendations

As discussed earlier, all Maruti Ciaz models till date have been good enough in terms of value, safety and maintenance. That said, ensure the odometer reading is genuine and the sedan comes with a proper service record.

Maruti Suzuki CIaz Used Car: What are your alternatives?

A used Honda City is an apt alternative to a used Maruti Ciaz. However do note that the City commands a higher resale value in the open market. That said you will be rewarded with even more space, higher comfort levels and a better brand recall. Check out our Used Honda City Buyers’ Guide here.

A used Volkswagen Vento is an alternative for those who want a better driving experience. It does offer less rear seat space but has far better dynamics. We also like the 1.5 diesel – DSG automatic combination while petrolheads can pick the 1.2 TSI – DSG set-up.

A used Hyundai Verna isn’t a bad deal for those looking at sheer number of features or want a very powerful diesel motor. Even today, the 1.6 diesel of the Verna is not a match for any other C segment sedan.

Tata Harrier gets discount for the first time ever: 5 year warranty announced

Tata Motors and its dealers are responding to increased competition in the SUV segment. According to MotorArena, Tata dealers are now offering an exchange bonus of Rs. 35,000 on the Harrier. This is the first time that any discount is being offered on the SUV, which was launched in January 2019. Tata Motors has also come up with a new warranty package called the PentaCare, says a Team-BHP news report. Said to be priced at around Rs. 25,000, the PentaCare warranty package will extend warranty coverage on the SUV to 5 years/unlimited kilometers. An official announcement about the new warranty scheme is likely to be announced shortly. Buyers of the Harrier are urged to check with dealers while purchasing the vehicle as having a 5 year warranty is always a good thing. Existing Harrier owners may also enquire with dealers and buy the warranty package as it’s an insurance against things going wrong during the ownership period.

Tata Harrier Dark Edition 1

Meanwhile, the Harrier lost a big chunk of sales in August 2019 even as new upstarts such as the MG Hector and Kia Seltos pulled in impressive numbers in the same month. While the Harrier’s sales fell to 635 units, sales of the Hector went up over a third to 2,018 units while the Seltos had a great first month, finishing with 6,236 units which put it ahead of the best selling Hyundai Creta.

The new warranty package should give Harrier buyers an additional layer of protection while the exchange bonus will make the SUV more attractive. Tata Motors has also introduced two major changes on the Harrier. 1. The SUV is now available with a dual tone paint scheme. 2. It also gets a new Dark edition, with all black interiors and exteriors. The Dark Edition variant of the Harrier is based on the XZ trim and has already begun reaching Tata dealerships across India.

Coming to what the Tata Harrier offers its customers, the SUV is a 5 seater and is available in diesel-only form. The engine is a 2 liter Fiat Multijet unit with 170 Bhp-350 Nm. It’s paired to a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard, which drives the front wheels of the SUV. Tata Motors will offer a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox option on the Harrier by the end of this year or early next year. A BS6 version of the SUV is also under development for an early 2020 debut. The BS6 variant is expected to get a more powerful state of tune for the 2 liter diesel engine: 170 Bhp-350 Nm. A 7 seat version of the Harrier, called the Cassini, is expected to make a debut by the end of this year. Prices of the current Harrier start from Rs. 13.04 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The SUV is available in XE, XM, XT and XZ trims.

What should I know before buying a used Octavia and what are the risks involved?

Well, the Skoda Octavia is a pretty brilliant car in its own right and has a loyal fan following behind it too. On the downside though, Skoda’s aftersales service is nothing to write home about and the Czech manufacturer has been always ridiculed for the same in India. Also, the Octavia has a poor resale value than some of its rivals but that is not much of an issue since you will actually be benefitted due to the same.

Another thing to check is if there is any water/flood damage in the car. Before laying down your money, have a skilled technician inspect the car completely. This will chuck out any hidden issue the car is having before you and the price can be further negotiated based on the same.
