Tata Motors’ latest TVC promotes Nexon’s safety credentials creatively [Video]

The Tata Nexon became India’s first car to achieve a perfect 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP safety tests back in December last year. Ever since then, Tata has been actively using Nexon’s Global NCAP scores to promote the Nexon and also highlight the importance of safety features in cars. The Indian Government has also mandated the BNSVAP norms now under which certain safety features and structural rigidity of cars have been fixed and all cars sold in the country should comply with norms. Recently, Tata released a new TVC which highlighted the Nexon’s safety credentials in a creative way. Check out the video below to show how Tata drives home the message of safety this Diwali.

As seen in the video, the innovative script of the TVC is quite impressive. The TVC starts with a family which is waiting outside their house waiting for something exciting. Diwali celebrations are going on and the family is waiting for ‘Pooja’ to be completed. Just then a young man drives home with a spanking new Nexon and suddenly all eyes light up in excitement. The Grandma of the house then proceeds with the Pooja and completed the usual rituals. However, the young lad is pretty confident of the Nexon’s built quality and says that it doesn’t need any Pooja to protect it from elements.

Upon hearing this, the Grandma conducts a real-life safety test by smashing a coconut on the Nexon’s bonnet to everyone’s surprise. Apparently, there are no scratch marks or dent on the car and all is well again. While we can’t exactly say if smashing a coconut on a Nexon’s bonnet would lead to a dent or not, we definitely believe it is one of the safest cars in India. The sub-4 meter SUV received 16.06 points out of 17, which was the highest score achieved by any car ever made in India at that time.

The Nexon comes with several safety features like full channel ABS with EBD, specially designed body shell, platform and structure for stability and strength, ISOFIX child seat mounts, dual-front airbags, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, cornering stability control, front fog lamps with cornering assistance, voice warning for various alerts and driver & co-driver seatbelt reminder. All these features, except for the reversing camera and the front fog lamps, are standard across all the variants of the Nexon.

The Nexon comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged unit that generates 108 Bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that generates 108 Bhp of power and 260 Nm of torque. Both the engine options are offered with 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed AMT gearbox.

This is not the first time that Ziva Dhoni has appeared with the vehicles owned by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Earlier a picture of Ziva Dhoni on the Confederate X132 Hellcat became viral on the Internet. She was a lot younger then. The Nissan 4W73 pick-up truck has become the latest vehicle that has been added to the luxury garage of M S Dhoni. It is popularly known as the One-Ton and is famous among the vehicle collectors. The vehicle has been beautifully restored by SD Nakodar and it gets a beautiful hulk green shade on the outside. All-new Renault Kwid AMT facelift walkaround review [Video]

Renault recently launched the facelifted version of the Kwid in the Indian market. The French manufacturer has made quite a lot of changes to the car in terms of aesthetics and it almost seems likes a generation update rather than a facelift. Prices for the new Kwid start at Rs 2.83 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) which means it is much cheaper than the Tata Tiago and the Maruti S-Presso. The top-end variant of the Kwid is priced at Rs. 4.92 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Renault also offers AMT transmission option on the Kwid. Let’s now take a look at the video below by Namaste Car that shows the Kwid AMT in full glory.

For reference, the Tata Tiago is priced at Rs 4.49 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi while the entry-level Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is priced at Rs 3.69 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. This makes them both expensive than the Kwid. Renault is currently offering AMT option on four variants of the Kwid which includes 1.0 RXT AMT, 1.0 RXT AMT (O), Climber 1.0 AMT and Climber 1.0 AMT (O). Pricing for these AMT variants starts at Rs. 4.63 lakh for the 1.0 RXT AMT variant and go all the way up to Rs 4.92 lakhs for the top end Climber 1.0 AMT (O).

The AMT unit on the Kwid is a 5-speed unit which drives the front wheels. Since the AMT variant is offered only on the top variants, they come loaded to brim with features. The Climber variant, on the other hand, come equipped with an attractive body kit which makes the car look rugged. This includes orange accents on body panels, roof rails, and blacked-out alloys among other things.

Kwid

The interiors of the new Renault Kwid AMT facelift have been updated thoroughly too. The dashboard has been updated in a dark grey theme and it has been redesigned too. The dashboard now has revised climate control vents and a new touchscreen infotainment system that gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay system. The dashboard looks quite similar to the Triber. Also, the steering wheel of the new Renault Kwid is different from the previous model. However, still, there are no mounted controls on the hatchback that can be used to control the infotainment system. Renault has also not added a keyless start/stop system to the vehicle. The seats of the new Kwid also gets contrasting highlights all-over, which makes it look quite youthful.

The engine options on the new Kwid are the same as on the pre-facelift models. There is a 799cc, three-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that generates a maximum power of 54 Bhp and 72 Nm of peak torque. The more powerful 1.0-litre, a three-cylinder petrol engine is also available with the Kwid. It churns out a maximum power of 67 Bhp and peak torque of 91 Nm. The smaller displacement engine only gets a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.0-litre engine option comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and automatic AMT transmission.

Comfort, safety and tons of features combine with prestige make sedans highly desirable for many. They currently range between Rs 8,00,000 – Rs 15,00,000 on the new car market. The used version is an ideal buy for those who want a step-up in experience or more space or more features or just something with greater style quotient with less than Rs. 7 lakh to spend. Verna has the best deals but Honda is the best all rounder and the most sought after car in this segment. Used Sedan prices average around Rs 5,36,550 in Bangalore with lower end tending to be around Rs 4,85,000 and upper end tending to be around Rs 6,43,000. The higher end of the range will get you a  CIAZ which is 6 years old while if you veer towards the minimum, then you will have to contend with RAPID which is 4 years old. So, what should you go for? Which are the best deals available on the market?

Recommendation #1: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz VDi+ SHVS

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Vdi+ Shvs

Year: 2016 / Kms Driven: 85,573 / List Price: Rs 420,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 882,000

This entry, which comes at a discount of 52% to its original price is 3 years old and has done 85,573 Kms. This diesel-powered, CIAZ is currently with its second owner. While Ciaz is largely a trouble-free car, and the sample here is priced attractively, it has clocked a lot of kms within a short period and is with second owner. A good buy still–after a thorough check–if money is tight. Else, check out the rest of the list.

Recommendation #2: Honda City 1.5 V AT 2012

Honda City 1.5 V At 2012

Year: 2012 / Kms Driven: 50,000 / List Price: Rs 450,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 988,000

This entry, which comes at a discount of 54% to its original price is 7 years old and has done 50,000 Kms. This petrol-powered, golden CITY is currently with its third owner. It is less used than the Ciaz listed above but is the previous generation City, which means its quite a bit smaller than Ciaz. So if space isn’t what you are after, this is an excellent buy. Due to low ground clearance, most Citys have scraped underbody so have that checked thoroughly.

Recommendation #3: Skoda Rapid Elegance 1.6 TDi MT

Skoda Rapid Elegance 1.6 Tdi Mt

Year: 2013 / Kms Driven: 72,082 / List Price: Rs 360,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 977,999

This entry, which comes at a discount of 63% to its original price is 6 years old and has done 72,082 Kms. This diesel-powered, RAPID is currently with its second owner. Rapid is an excellent car–its safe, drives well and has great ride. But, should something go wrong, the fix would cost you much more than it would for rival Japanese cars. So, while the deal is good, have it checked thoroughly–we mean really, really thoroughly.

Recommendation #4: Skoda Rapid Ambition Plus 1.5 TDi CR 2015

Skoda Rapid Ambition Plus 1.5 Tdi Cr 2015

Year: 2015 / Kms Driven: 50,000 / List Price: Rs 588,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 1,084,000

This entry, which comes at a discount of 46% to its original price is 4 years old and has done 50,000 Kms. This diesel-powered, silver RAPID is currently with its first owner. Another Skoda Rapid–this time with fewer km but a higher price tag.  Still, if you could negotiate a good deal, you have a great. And yes, do remember the bit about a thorough check mentioned alongside previous entry.

Buy it here

Recommendation #5: Maruti Suzuki Sx4 Vdi 2011

Maruti Suzuki Sx4 Vdi 2011

Year: 2011 / Kms Driven: 46,000 / List Price: Rs 310,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 798,725

This entry, which comes at a discount of 61% to its original price is 8 years old and has done 46,000 Kms. This diesel-powered, silver SX4 is currently with its first owner. SX4 is particularly good if you drive frequently over bad roads and this one being diesel, would be cheap to run as well.  Though 8 years old, it has done less than 50,000 km so should be trouble-free too. And finally the price is good–but don’t expect it deliver ‘prestige’ as it is a discontinued model.

DC Vampire used by Salman Khan is for sale: Cheaper than a WagonR

DC Design cars have quite popular all over India for their off-beat designs. At present, the DC Design is focussing on lounge cars but a few years back, DC Design was all about creating newly designed vehicles that were even parts of the movies. Here is one such DC Vampire, which was made in the 90s by DC Design and the car is now up for sale.

Image may be NSFW.

Vampire 2

The DC Design Vampire is based in Karnataka and the seller is quoting Rs 8 lakhs for the car. According to the seller, the car has covered a total of 23,000 km till now. It is not known if the odometer in the vehicle is the original one. The seller also mentions that the vehicle is registered in Karnataka and it is in excellent condition. The tax of the vehicle has also been paid for the lifetime in Karnataka state and all relevant documents are available with the seller.

Even though it is not mentioned in the advertisement, the DC Vampire is based on the Daewoo Cielo sedan. The Vampire marked an era of DC’s uniquely and radically designed vehicles that continued for a long time. The Vampire was launched around the time when the DC Akra and DC Arya were revealed in the market. However, the DC Vampire became popular because it was used in the Bollywood movie, “Chall Mere Bhai”, in which Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Karishma Kapoor played the lead roles. The car was spotted in the movie several times.

Vampire 1

The DC Vampire convertible looks quite intimidating on the roads and since the whole body has been restructured and made from the scratch, there is no similarity of the DC Vampire to the Cielo sedan. When the car came out, it drew a lot of attention and the onlookers gave a mixed reaction towards the car. The front-end of the vehicle seems to be inspired by the Plymouth Prowler while the sides get high slabs that make it unique. DC Design even added the Corvette-inspired tail lamps to the Vampire to give it a truly international look.

The car also gets wide tyres, projector headlamps and a two-door design. It is not known what features the vehicle gets. However, all the features of Cielo sedan are likely to be carried forward by the Vampire. Since the vehicle has been completely redesigned, one should check the documents thoroughly before buying it. Also, since the Cielo sedan has been discontinued for a long time in the Indian market now, one should be careful about the spare parts and maintenance of the vehicle. For more information, please contact the seller directly by clicking here.

Jeep is readying up a Maruti Brezza & Hyundai Venue challenger: Compact SUV to be launched next year

Jeep India is developing a sub-4 meter compact SUV for the Indian market to get a foothold in one of the fastest growing categories in the SUV market. The actual product launch will happen sometime next year but as Jeep is skipping the upcoming Auto Expo, expect an official unveil later in the year. The sub-4 meter compact SUV wearing the Jeep badge will sit under the Compass in terms of pricing and positioning, and will rival the likes of the Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. The new SUV is expected to use the Fiat Small Wide platform, which also forms the base for the Renegade SUV, which measures a little over 4 meters. In the past, Jeep India has been spotted testing the Renegade in and around Mumbai and Pune. However, the sub-4 meter SUV that Jeep is putting together for India is likely to be very distinct from the Renegade.

Jeep Sub 4 Meter Suv 2
CarToq’s speculative render of the sub-4 meter Jeep compact SUV

Here’s what Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) india’s Managing Director Kevin Flynn had to tell BusinessStandard about the new sub-4 meter Jeep,

That (Jeep Compass Trailhawk) will be followed by the sub-4 metre SUV, which will be around the size of the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Brezza, in 2020.

In fact, the multiple test mules of the Jeep Renegade suggest that the American SUV maker could be using the former to test key components that will go into the sub-4 meter SUV. Every SUV wearing the Jeep badge gets a dedicated TrailHawk variant, which offers competent levels of off road performance. The sub-4 meter SUV is likely to be no different, with the top-end trim offering an all wheel drive layout, a trail-rated suspension set up and high ground clearance.

However, the lower variants are likely to be front wheel driven. The Jeep sub-4 meter offering is expected to dip into the Renegade’s parts bin. A 1.4 liter turbocharged petrol engine is likely to be one option on offer and it remains unclear whether Jeep will offer a diesel motor on the new SUV given the fact that the 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine will not be made Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) compliant.

The other engine that Jeep has access to is the 1.6 liter Multijet unit, which will have to be made BS6 compliant. However, using this engine will mean that the sub-4 Jeep offering will not qualify for a lower tax rate that the Indian government bestows on sub-4 meter vehicles. So, a diesel engine may not be offered on the sub-4 meter Jeep. Instead, entry level variants of the SUV could get a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbo petrol engine from Fiat’s FireFly line up. This motor makes about 118 Bhp and 190 Nm, outputs that should be more than adequate in the sub-4 meter class, which has offerings such as the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza and Ford EcoSport.

Toyota Innova Crysta, which is an extremely popular vehicle in the Indian market is about to get a mid-life update in the Indian market. The Innova Crysta has been around for a while now and the manufacturer has not updated the vehicle for years now. However, next year, Toyota will roll out an update for the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is likely to be around the time when they launch the BS6 version of the MPV. Here is a rendered image that indicates what the upcoming Innova Crysta may look like when it is launched in the market next year.

Innova Crysta 2

The rendered image has been made by Shoeb R Kalania for IAB and it is purely based on the speculations. The facelifted version may follow Toyota’s new aggressive design language and a few additions all around to make it look rugged. The changes are not so radical in the speculative render though.

Toyota may change the shape of the headlamps to make the vehicle look more aggressive. The headlamps may even get integrated DRL that will become the new identify of the MPV. Moreover, the bumper has also been updated in the rendered image and it looks much more muscular. The fog lamp housings are now upgraded and it gets triangular-shaped lamps that are likely to get LEDs in them. Overall, the Toyota Innova Crysta looks fresher in the rendered image. The major difference being the redesigned grille, which remains inspired by the current version but it changes the way Innova Crysta looks.

Toyota may make additional changes to the car including a cladding that will make the vehicle look much more rugged. Also, a new set of alloy wheels will ensure that the MPV looks sportier than the current version.

It should be noted that the Toyota Innova Crysta is the best-selling vehicle for the Japanese automobile giant in India for years now. It dominates the segment by a big margin and is expected to do so in the coming times too. Toyota will launch an all-new version of the Innova Crysta in the coming years but it will not be launched until 2022. Till then, this refreshed version of the car will keep the sales rolling.

The Innova Crysta is extremely popular among the cab fleet owners. The bulletproof engine and reliability of the vehicle make it the first choice in the segment. Also, the Innova Crysta is extremely comfortable and that’s appreciated by the travellers too. Toyota is currently planning to launch the bigger version of the Innova, which is known as the Vellfire and will cost around Rs 80 lakhs.

Honda to shut down Greater Noida factory, sell land in Gujarat: Report

Honda Car India Limited has been present in India for a long time now. Amidst the slowdown in the market, Honda is currently looking at ways to restructure its operations in India. The Japanese automobile manufacturer has seen its sales falling to almost half in the last four years and the manufacturer is now planning to close down the manufacturing unit.

Honda Greater Noida

The sales of the Honda Car India is expected to fall below 1 lakh units in the current financial year. To recover the money lost in the market and to realign the brand’s strategy with the falling sales, the brand will reportedly sell its Greater Noida manufacturing facility. Honda Car India currently operates two manufacturing facilities in India, there is one in Noida while the other one is in Tapukara, Rajasthan. The report in ET Auto suggests that the manufacturer will move the production from Greater Noida to Tapukara in the coming months. Also, for expansion purposes, Honda had bought land in Gujarat a few years back but the same report says that the manufacturer will also sell off the land in the state.

Honda’s Greater Noida facility is the first manufacturing plant of the brand in India. A part of the facility may get converted into a Research and Development hub. Also, a small assembly line for the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) products may get started in the facility.

Currently, the Greater Noida plant of the manufacturer can handle the production for 1.2 lakh units per annum. However, due to the slowdown, the production has been reduced to only 2,500 units per month, which translates to about 30,000 units per annum. It is only about 20% of the original production capacity of the manufacturer. The report further says that a senior management team led by Masayuki Igarashi,  who is the head of the Asia-Oceania region of HCIL visited the Indian plant with a team from Thailand. The new strategy,w which is currently under the review will see the restructuring of the manufacturing plants and align the production facilities to the demand of the market. Honda has also slowed the process of dealership expansion in India and investment that would have been used for a new customer interface. Honda has already moved the production of the current-generation City to the Tapukara plant.

Honda is planning to launch new cars like the all-new City in the Indian market in the coming months. The manufacturer launched the all-new Civic earlier this year and the car has received a good response from the market. However, since it is a low-volume segment, the sales numbers are not as good as the manufacturer would have liked. Honda will also not participate in the 2020 Auto Expo, which is the biggest automobile exhibition in India.

Hyundai has already launched the car in the Chinese market and the Indian version of the car is expected to carry the same design and changes. The pictures of the all-new Creta, which has been spotted on test under a heavy camouflage reveals that it will get the same split headlamps that the Chinese model gets. The pictures posted by ACI confirms that the Indian version will look identical to the Chinese version of the Creta.

The all-new Hyundai Creta will get the same platform as the Kia Seltos. The body panels and even the parts of the cabin will be similar to the China-spec Hyundai Creta, which is locally known as the IX25. The Creta will be officially unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo and will be subsequently launched in the Indian market in the same year. The main differentiators of the Hyundai Creta include the split headlamps that will put the LED DRL at the top while a thin metal sheet will put a boundary between the headlamp and the DRL. Altroz 1

According to a report by Autocar Professional, Tata will unveil the production-spec Tata Altroz in the first week of December 2019 ahead of its early 2020 launch. The official launch, however, will happen most probably sometime in January before the 20th of the month. That is because Tata had earlier announced that the Altroz will be the official lead car of the Mumbai Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on 19th January.

Talking about the Altroz, the premium hatchback is built on Tata’s new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Architecture) which will also be used on several other future Tata vehicles. The design of the Altroz is on the lines of Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy which was also seen on the Harrier SUV. The car looks pretty modern and premium as well, something which will give an edge to the manufacturer in the segment.
