However, with young and dynamic leaders rising through political ranks, the Ambassador has now been replaced with Swanky SUVs and other such cars. the discontinuation of Ambassador is another reason behind the same. A few politicians though have gone for an exotic set of wheels for their personal use. Here are 10 such politicians who own and drive high-end cars.

One of the most awaited SUV from Tata Motors this year was Harrier. It is quite popular among Indians because of its unique design and affordable price point. Tata Launched Harrier at a starting price of Rs 12.69 lakh and goes up till 16.25 lakh for the top end trim. It was so popular after the launch that it had a waiting period of up to 3 months.

There is no denying the fact that Tata Harrier is a good looking, bold SUV which will make you look twice if you spot one on road. That is what exactly happened in this video as well. The video was uploaded by Ashish Mathew on his Youtube channel where he can be seen taking a test drive of the Tata Harrier.

He seems pretty impressed with the Harrier and can be seen driving through busy roads of Bengaluru. He then stops at a traffic signal where a Police officer approaches him and knocks on the window and starts asking about the Harrier. He asks about the features and price and leaves the spot impressed. In between the conversation the cop even said that he was currently using a Maruti Brezza and was planning to buy Harrier after selling Brezza.

Tata Harrier Traffic Police Featured

Harrier is Tata’s new flagship vehicle and is built on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s D8 platform. The design remains very similar to the H5X concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The headlamps are positioned lower in the bumper and a bright LED DRL strip placed on both sides of the grille. It gets uniquely designed LED Taillamp with black strip connecting both the lamps. It comes with 16 inch wheels in the lower trims and 17 inch on the higher ones.

On the inside, Tata Harrier looks extremely premium with wooden inserts on the dashboard. It gets features like 8.8-inch touchscreen floating infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Tata Harrier also gets a 7-inch TFT in the instrument cluster that shows various information. It gets a 9-speaker surround sound set-up from JBL with a subwoofer.

As of now some of the things missing in Harrier is an automatic transmission (which is likely to launch soon), sunroof (it is only available as an accessory) and may be a petrol engine also. Currently it only comes with a diesel engine which is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Talking about the engine, Harrier is powered by a 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine. It is the same engine that is seen in Jeep Compass. The engine in harrier generates a maximum of 138 Bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque.

The Mid-size SUV segment has been a place that has seen a lot of action this year. Models like Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Kia Seltos launched this year. One of the most talked about SUV launches this year was the MG Hector. Ever since its launch, the Hector has been doing pretty well in terms of sales which shows how popular has this new SUV become among Indians.

Next big thing coming up in the Indian car sector is the BS VI emission norms that would come into effect from April 2020. Just like all the other manufacturers in the country, MG is also working on BS VI engines. Few days ago a couple of Hectors were spotted testing on our roads and here we have a video of the same. It was uploaded by Auto Trend TV on their YouTube channel.

Two Hectors can be seen on a busy road before they come to a stop at a traffic signal. Only the rear of the cars are visible. Design wise no major changes can be spotted. The car at the back looks like a lower variant as it has a different wheel design and the one at the front has sharp looking machine cut alloy wheels.

Mg Hector Bs6

Coming to the engines, MG hector comes with both petrol and diesel options. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit that produces 143 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine on the other hand is a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre unit that generates 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. MG Motors is also offering Hector with a hybrid system in the petrol variants as an option. This makes Hector the only vehicle in the segment to come with a hybrid drivetrain. Talking about the transmission, 1.5 Petrol comes with manual and 7-Speed DCT gearbox whereas the diesel variant only comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Coming back to the BS VI compliant Hector. The engine is more or less likely to remain the same, but the only difference would be that it would be more cleaner. MG will be tuning the engine in such a way that it meets the upcoming emission norms. It also means that the BS VI MG Hector will be tad more expensive that the current BS 4 version.

MG is also working on their next model which is the 7-seater version of the Hector and an all-electric SUV which will be known by the name e-ZS. They are both likely to be launched in India next year.

12 ‘almost forgotten’ sedans of India: Mitsubishi Cedia to Suzuki Kizashi

$

0

Sedans have been pretty popular in India ever since the initial days of the auto market in the country. It is only in recent years that their sales and popularity have been overtaken by SUVs, which in fact is a global phenomenon. While the auto market of India is among the biggest in the world and there are a lot of sedans on offer in every segment, the long journey of market evolvement means that a lot of sedans launched in the past have now been forgotten by one and all. Here are twelve sedan cars from the past that currently most of us don’t remember

Mitsubishi Cedia

The Lancer Cedia was brought in as a sportier successor of the good old Lancer which enjoyed a relatively successful stint in India. At that time, the Lancer Cedia took the fights to the likes of the other D-Segment sedan including Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic among others. However, the Cedia was a big market failure and has since then prevented the manufacturer to introduce the nameplate in India again. It came powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a sporty body kit.

Ford Escort

The Escort became Ford ‘escort’ for its Indian re-entry back in 1995. In those times, the Escort was considered a heavily loaded sedan but at the same time, it carried a hefty price tag. This was one of the prime reasons behind the sedan’s inability to gather customers. The Escort came loaded with features like power steering, air-conditioner, electrically adjustable ORVMs, factory-fitted music system and power windows.

Peugeot 309

peugeot 309 india photo

That’s right, Peugeot also sold cars in India, although its stint here was pretty short. The French manufacturer joined hands with Premier Motors Ltd for the Indian market and launched the 309 sedan as its first vehicle in the country. This car came with both petrol and diesel engine options and the diesel unit was a am award-winning TUD5 diesel engine. The car also offered good driving dynamics and a great ride quality.

Daewoo Nexia

Daewoo’s most well-known sedan in the country was the Cielo. However, the manufacturer also made a premium of the Cielo which was known as the Nexia. The Nexie came with a powerful 1.6-litre petrol engine that was good for 90 Bhp. Despite its good looks, the high price tag of the Daewoo Nexia meant that it didn’t find many buyers in the market.

Nissan Teana

The Nissan Teana was an expensive sedan that took on the likes of Skoda Superb in the Indian market. The Teana was launched as a CBU product, which made sure of its high price tag in the Indian market. The Teana offered an extremely comfortable cabin and was offered with a powerful but thirsty V6 petrol engine.

Opel Vectra

The Opel Vectra was a premium sedan, which failed to attract the customers at that time. The sedan came with a 2.2-litre engine that churns out a maximum of 146 Bhp, making it one of the most powerful cars in its time. The Vectra also offered a feature-laden cabin and offered a great ride quality too.

Rover Montego

Sipani Automobiles, which launched the rebadged version of the popular cars like Robin Reliant in the Indian market also tied up with other manufacturers in the market. Sipani also launched the Austin Montego, which was renamed as Rover Montego in India. Both sedans and station wagon version of the models were sold in India. The feature-laden Montego sedan did not find many takers in the Indian market as it was super exotic at that time.

Maruti 1000 & Esteem

After launching the Maruti 800 in the Indian market, 1000 was launched as the first sedan from the manufacturer. The sedan came powered by a 970cc engine producing only a maximum of 46 Bhp. It was quite fun to drive as it weighed only 825 kg. However, it was later replaced with the Maruti Suzuki Esteem, which came with a bigger engine and went on to become one of the largest selling cars in India.

Fiat Siena

Fiat launched the Siena to take on the Maruti Suzuki Esteem in the Indian market. However, the infamous service-network of Fiat ensured that it never became as popular as its rival in India. The Siena was later replaced with the Petra, which posted similar results on the sales charts.

Tata Indigo XL

Indigo XL

Tata Indica platform was properly utilised by Tata to offer various cars. The Tata Indigo XL was a long base version of the Indigo sedan and it offered huge rear legroom. The Indigo XL came with more space than a Honda Accord in that time. It became a big-time hit among the fleet owners but never became popular enough to survive the competition for a long time.

Suzuki Kizashi

The Kizashi was the premium sedan that was a CBU import. It looked brilliant but it was too expensive for anyone’s liking. The Kizashi was powered by a 2.4-litre V6 petrol engine that generated 175 Bhp. However, the poor fuel efficiency and the hefty price tag did not make the car very popular in the Indian market.

Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta is a popular name but when the facelifted version came with an Aston Martin-inspired front grille, the popularity if the car just went down. The Ford Fiesta went against the likes of Honda City. However, the Fiesta just failed to gain enough customers in the Indian market

Best Used Car Deals In Delhi-NCR for Compact Sedans Under 5 lakhs From Cartoq TRUE PRICE

$

0

Compact Sedan are small but come with decent space, good mileage and a boot to carry your belongings. They build on the advantages of the premium hatchbacks [upon which they are often based] and currently range between Rs 5,50,000 – Rs 9,00,000 on the new car market. The used version is an ideal buy for those who want the status that comes with owning a 3-box car or need more cargo space because they ferry stuff regularly. Being the bestseller for ages, Maruti Dzire comes with both great deals and peace of mind–its a very built car backed by Maruti’s extensive and inexpensive service network. The current gen Honda Amaze offers more space, style and fuel economy, but is hard to find and could be expensive–but if you can find and afford one, go for it.

Cartoq True Price Featured

Used Compact Sedan average around Rs 3,75,000 in Delhi-NCR with lower end tending to be around Rs 3,14,000 and upper end tending to be around Rs 4,20,500. The higher end of the range will get you an ASPIRE while if you veer towards the minimum, then you will have to contend with ETIOS  So, what should you go for? Which are the best deals available on the market?

Recommendation #1: Toyota Etios GD

Toyota Etios Gd
Year: 2014 / Kms Driven: 93,320 / List Price: Rs 260,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 700,000

This entry, which comes at a discount of 63% to its original price is 5 years old and has done 93,320 Kms. Currently with its second owner, this coloured ETIOS comes with a diesel powerplant. We are generally a bit unsure about recommending cars that have clocked close a 1 lakh km but this is a Toyota. Its really well-built–will run trouble-free for another 100,000 km! Besides, it is the most spacious and best-riding compact sedan you can buy. Being a diesel, its frugal too. Downside: Interiors lack any sort of wow factor making this a strong practical, rather than emotional, buy.

Recommendation #2: Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire VDi 2015

Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Vdi 2015
Year: 2015 / Kms Driven: 48,200 / List Price: Rs 345,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 686,000

This entry, which comes at a discount of 50% to its original price is 4 years old and has done 48,200 Kms. Currently with its first owner, this white coloured DZIRE comes with a diesel powerplant. This is a 2nd gen Dzire which is a mixed bag: frugal to own and operate and good to drive but short on rear seat and boot space. There might be some wear and tear-clutch plates or brake pads-neither would cost much. The tyres too might be reaching end of their life, so you need to factor that spend in your purchase.. Generally a very reliable car, we suggest  check for noisy suspension, inability to soak undulations and a noisy cabin. If the car has run a lot, check the clutch for hardness.

Can a Royal Enfield Classic 350 tow a Toyota Fortuner? [Video]

Royal Enfield motorcycles are very popular around the world and are known for their retro looking modern motorcycles. Another thing that Royal Enfield is famous for is the engine. It has torque-rich engine that can be useful in tricky situations. Don’t believe us?, here is one such video demonstration that shows a Royal Enfield Classic 350 towing a 2 ton Toyota Fortuner SUV. The video was uploaded by Kp Experiments.

The video starts With the Anchor introducing his Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Toyota Fortuner SUV. he then explains the whole plan of trying to tow the Toyota Fortuner SUV using the Classic 350. He then takes out a rope and ties it on the tow hook of the Fortuner and the other end on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and starts pulling it.

For some time it looked like an impossible task for Royal Enfield as it was not able to move the SUV even a bit and the Classic 350 even stalled in between. After some time Royal Enfield started making some progress and started towing the Fortuner. Once the RE gained some momentum, towing the Fortuner was a piece of cake. The rider towed the SUV for quite some distance before stopping.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 Pulling A Toyota Fortuner Featured

Coming to the heart of the matter, that is Royal Enfield Classic 350’s engine, It is powered by a 346cc , unit construction engine That produces about 19.8 Bhp and 28 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed gearbox. This torque is available from a very low rpm as it has a long-stroke engine. It is that what helped the Royal Enfield tow a Fortuner like two-ton SUV.

It is not the first time that Royal Enfield has undergone such experiments. In the past, videos of Royal Enfield riders helping an Xcent cab driver and pushing a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R on a highway have surfaced on the internet. All these videos show Royal Enfield successfully pushing the other vehicles.

This video was done as an experiment to show the capabilities of Royal Enfield Classic 350 and we would not recommend doing it in real world conditions. Even if you have to, don’t tow or push any vehicle for too much distance. The pushing or towing puts the engine of the bike under too much stress and there are chances that it will damage the transmission and the Clutch of the bike will also wear off as it is put through lot of pressure in such conditions. In short, if you have to tow a vehicle it is always better to go for a professional help.

Hyundai has been working on the next-gen Creta SUV for some time now. It is expected that the new Creta will makes its way to Indian market early next year. It is most likely to be showcased in the upcoming Indian Auto Expo. The new Creta has been spotted testing in Indian roads a couple of times.

The new Creta has gone on sale in International markets like China. It is known as ix25 in Chinese market. Here is a video of the Upcoming Creta or Ix25 from the Chinese market which shows the SUV in detail. The video is uploaded by Power & Torque Youtube channel.

The Video starts by showing the exteriors of the ix25 or the  next-gen Creta. The next-gen Creta is likely to grow in terms of dimension. As per the video the new Creta will be longer by 20 mm compared to the current model. The design of the all-new Creta is now more inspired from its elder sibling the Palisade. The distinctly shaped headlamp with split LED DRLs and projector headlamps all give give it a premium feel now.

Hyundai Creta 2020 Walkaround Featured

Other notable changes in the front are the new bumpers and a new grille.  Coming to the side of the car, one would easily notice the Venue like machine dual tone alloy wheels which are 17 inch in size. There is a strong character line starting from the the LED DRL at the front and flowing towards the rear. It gives the new Creta more of an SUVish look. Hyundai has taken a different approach for the rear as well. It gets full LED split tail lamp cluster and the rear bumper is also redesigned.

Coming to the interiors, first big change one would notice is the huge Tesla like touchscreen infotainment system. The ix25 gets a fully digital intrument cluster, push button start, Drive modes, electronic hand brakes and steering mounted controls. The seats are also leather upholstered. It seems like the Creta will miss on rear air-con vents. Other new addition is a huge panoramic sunroof like the one seen in recently launched MG hector. There is a possibility that Creta will miss out on some features like digital instrument cluster when it comes to India.

Engine wise Creta is likely to get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. There is a slight possibility that, we might see the more powerful version of the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine that is available with the Hyundai Venue in the next-generation Hyundai Creta. Forgotten Mahindras of India: Bolero Invader to Voyager

$

Mahindra and Mahindra is a brand that needs no introduction in our country. Its automotive division is actually one of the oldest car brands in India dating back to the days of our independence. The company first started its journey as a steel trading company but later moved into the automotive space when it began manufacturing Jeep licensed utility vehicles in India. Over the years, Mahindra has come up with a lot of models and while some of them became very popular in the market, some didn’t. Therefore, Mahindra vehicles have been forgotten over the years. Here are 11 such models that have been forgotten in the market over the years.

Mahindra Legend

Often regarded as the spiritual predecessor of the modern-day Mahindra Thar, the Mahindra Legend was a butch two-door lifestyle vehicle. It was based on the chassis of the legendary Mahindra MM540/550 which in turn had its chassis derived from Willy’s Jeep. The Mahindra Legend was known for its off-road capabilities and came powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that churned out a maximum of 58 Bhp.

Mahindra Armada Grand

One of the early hits by Mahindra in the passenger vehicle segment, the Armada became extremely popular in the Indian market. The Armada Grand, however, didn’t enjoy the same popularity despite being a version based on the Mahindra Armada. It has a different grille and round headlamps that made it look different from the regular version. The vehicle also offered a 4X4 drive system as an option.

Mahindra Voyager

Before MUV and MPVs actually became popular in India (leaving aside the Omni), a lot of manufacturers tried to experiment with such body types but failed to gather good response from the buyers. Mahindra was also among the manufacturers who launched a MUV during the late 90s in India. It was known as the Voyager and was basically a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi LS300. It came with a high price tag and though it was a fairly good vehicle, it never became popular with the masses. Powering the vehicle is a Peugeot 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

Mahindra Commander

The Commander is another forgotten Mahindra vehicle. The rugged utility vehicle was first launched in India in 1991. Since then, Mahindra launched a lot of different variants of this vehicle. The Commander was sold with a soft top and multiple seating options. The company also introduced an LWB variant of the Commander and it specifically became popular in the semi-urban markets for its extremely rugged body. It came in 650 DI and 750 DP versions and both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options were available.

Mahindra Bolero Invader

The Bolero MUV gave birth to this vehicle, though it didn’t enjoy the same success as the Bolero. Called the Bolero Invader, this lifestyle vehicle had 3-doors and a partial soft roof lining with side-facing rear seats. Mahindra aimed the Bolero Invader at young customers and the vehicle was powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 63 Bhp and peak torque of 117 Nm. Low popularity forced Mahindra to discontinue the model later though.

Mahindra AXE

Mahindra supplies vehicles to various defence forces around the world. One of its for-military-use vehicle is the AXE, which was dubbed as the Indian Hummer. The AXE was based on an Isreali vehicle and looks extremely intimidating. It came powered by a 2.7-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 173 Bhp and peak torque of 346 Nm. There was also a 4.-litre petrol engine on offer.

Mahindra Boats

Mahindra launched a marine brand that manufactured luxury yachts. Yes, this is a very lesser known fact but Mahindra is India’s first organised boats manufacturer. It still offers quite a few numbers of boats of various sizes and functions in the Indian market. Mahindra even supplies boats to the defence forces around the world.

ATVs

Mahindra operates mPACT sub-brand in the USA where it sells ATVs under the brand name. There is a wide range of ATVs under the mPACT brand available in the USA market. Interestingly, Mahindra also launched the Roxor ATV in the USA market under the Mahindra brand sometime back.

Moto3 Bike

Mahindra showcased the Moto3 bike during the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo for the first time. The manufacturer is pretty active in the world of motorsports and the Moto3 segment racing bikes are used by various racing teams. The bike is powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which develops a maximum power of around 50 Bhp.

Formula E car

Mahindra and Mahindra has slowly but steadily made a decent name for itself in the Formula E championship races. The manufacturer developed its own powertrain for the race car and the sleek looking racecar has been built with help from other Mahindra entities. To let you know, Mahindra became the first Indian team to complete the FIM championship and als won a few races.

GenZe

The GenZe is a US-based company that manufactures electric two-wheelers. It was acquired by Mahindra sometime back and its flagship product is an electric scooter with a top speed of 50 km/h and a range of 50 km. It takes the battery 2.5 hours to charge completely. Called the GenZe 2.0, it can exchange data with AT&T products like Global SIM and Control Centre to build what Mahindra calls “the GenZe Mobile Rider Solution”. The GenZe 2.0 has been spotted testing in India too and Mahindra could bring it our markets officially in 2020.

Toyota Fortuner is one India’s favorite SUV and is one of the top selling full-size SUV in the country. It has been in the country for over a decade and its popularity has only gone up in the years. It is quite popular among Indians because of its massive street presence, spacious and comfortable interiors, powerful engines and tough build quality. Toyota Fortuner is also one of those SUV that can do off-road duties without breaking a sweat.  Here we have a video by Gagan Jassar that shows a tug of war between Toyota Fortuner and legendary Land Rover Defender 110.

As seen in the video Toyota Fortuner and The Land Rover Defender are engaged in a tug of war on an empty ground. The Toyota Fortuner used here is not the new-gen version but an older model. First the Fortuner starts pulling the mighty Land Rover but all the efforts go in vain. The Fortuner used here is a 4×4 varaint and all the four wheels can be seen spinning looking for traction to pull the Defender. The Fortuner spins and goes right and left many times to pull whereas the Defender can be seen there parked barely moving from its position.

Next, it’s the turn of Defender and it pulls the Toyota Fortuner without even breaking a sweat. The Land Rover Defender is without a doubt winner of this competition. This doesn’t mean that Fortuner is not a good SUV. It is just that it didn’t stand a chance in front of the mighty Defender.

Defender Vs Fortuner Featured

The Land Rover Defender 110 used in the video is the older version and came with two engine options. a 2.2L, Four Cylinder diesel and a 3.5L V8 petrol engine. However in this video it is not known which variant was used. Talking about the Fortuner, The older generation came with different set of engines.

This Fortuner got only two diesel engine options. The smaller one was a 2.5-litre unit that churned out 142 Bhp of power along with 343 Nm of torque. The bigger diesel engine, on the other hand, was a 3-litre unit that churned out a maximum power of 169 Bhp along with a peak torque of 360 Nm. The SUV had automatic transmission options on both the petrol and diesel models.

Recently Land Rover revealed the all-new Land Rover Defender in the 2019 Frankfurt Motor show. It is reintroduced in the market as a new new SUV but the Land Rover has made sure that the SUV did not lose its iconic boxy SUVish design from the past. Land Rover has introduced Defender in a 5-door and a 3-door avatar. The Defender 110 is the five door version whereas the shorter wheelbase Defender 90 is the 3-door one. Land Rover has also confirmed that the Defenders would go on sale in India by next year.

Toyota has just come up with a successor to the Rush compact SUV, and the new vehicle will be called the Raize. Pictures and details of the Toyota Raize have leaked onto the internet. From the looks of it, the compact SUV seems ready to take on the Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue, but only if Toyota actually brings it to India. The Raize measures 3,995 mm in length, and will be offered with a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. These attributes mean that will sit right in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment, and will also qualify for the lower tax rate.

The turbo petrol engine on this SUV makes 98 PS of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque, which suggests that it’s been tuned quite conservatively in the interest of high fuel efficiency and low tail pipe emissions. Two gearbox options are on offer: a 5 speed manual and a CVT automatic. With a kerb weight of under 1,000 kilograms, the Toyota Raize promises to be quite a peppy SUV given the power and torque outputs. Toyota has developed this compact SUV with an off-road ready form in mind, which is why it’ll get a front wheel drive as standard while specific variants will offer a four wheel drive layout as well.

Coming to the other dimensions of this compact SUV, width stands at 1,695 mm while height and wheelbase stand at 1,620 mm and 2,525 mm respectively. The Raize is based on Toyota’s New Generation Architecture (TNGA), and the compact SUV uses a monocoque body. This is at odds with the Suzuki Jimny, which will a prime competitor of this SUV, but that features a body-on-ladder layout. The Raize will also be sold by Daihatsu as well, with a full rebadging and restyling effort. Daihatsu calls it the Rocky, and production of this SUV has already commenced for specific South East Asian markets.

Toyota Raize 2

All said, Toyota has not confirmed the Raize for the Indian market, and is instead expected to launch a badge engineered version of the facelifted Maruti Brezza sometime next year. The badge engineered Brezza will be Toyota’s first stab at the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment in India, and the vehicle will be a petrol mild hybrid. It’ll use the 1.5 liter K-Series petrol engine paired with two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed torque converter automatic. The petrol engine on the Brezza is likely to put out 104 Bhp-138 Nm, and an electric motor with brake energy regeneration will make for the mild hybrid layout.

Indian roads are one of the most unsafe and dangerous roads in the world. While there are many accidents that are reported daily from corners of the country, government and cops try to implement the rules and stop people from speeding and other illegal things on the public roads. Well, quite often the authorities also break the rules and there’s nothing much that is done to make sure that they fall in line. An exclusive report on News 18 Kerala shows how the cars of Kerala’s CM and FM broke the speed rules for multiple times and the data is available on the public challan portal.

The report that was aired on the vernacular channel shows that the two Toyota Innova Crysta MPVs that are the official vehicles of the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan have crossed the speed limit at least 14 times. The acts were caught by the speed traps installed throughout the state. His official Toyota Innova Crysta bearing the registration number “KL01 CB 7400” has been caught speeding as many as 5 times while the other official Toyota Innova Crysta bearing the registration number “KL01 CB 8355” has crossed the speed limit 9 times. This report is on the official Kerala Traffic Police website and can be accessed by the public.

Kerala’s finance minister, Dr T. M. Isaac Thomas, who also has the Toyota Innova Crysta as an official vehicle has been caught crossing the speed limits multiple times. His Innova Crysta bearing the registration “KL 01 CB 8344” has crossed the speed limit as many as 28 times. Even this data is available on the public website of the Kerala Traffic Police.

Chief Minister and Finance Minister are regularly seen using the vehicles. However, it is not known if they were present in the vehicle when the speeding act was caught on the traps. Such fines are online and the cops do not stop the vehicle physically on the roads. The user has to check the vehicle’s registration number online and pay the fine accordingly. It should be noted that if the fine amount is not paid within a stipulated time, the vehicle’s owner also has to pay a penalty. The cops and RTO send a notice to the defaulters who do not pay the fine on time.

All the three Toyota Innova Crysta MPVs caught in the speeding act are registered to the Director of the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Since these are official government vehicles, they are registered to the local RTO. This is not the first time a minister has been caught on the public roads breaking the rules and speeding. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ vehicle has been caught speeding multiple times. However, it remains to be seen if the Kerala ministers pay the fine for the illegal acts that they have done. It should be noted that Kerala rolled back the new fines on many illegal acts that were introduced recently.
