Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, which was launched in the Indian market last year will soon a get a more powerful variant. The all-new Grand i10 NIOS, which looks much sportier than the last generation Grand i10 has been revealed with a new more powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Grand i10 NIOS will become one of the few cars to join the 100 PS club of affordable cars in the Indian market whenever it is launched in the market.

Grand I10 Nios

The Grand i10 NIOS gets the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the vehicles like Hyundai Venue and the recently launched Hyundai Aura. In the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, the same engine will produce a maximum power of 100 PS and peak torque of 172 Nm. It is same as the engine specifications of the Hyundai Aura. The same engine debuted in the Indian market with the all-new Hyundai Venue, which was also launched in the market last year. In the Venue, the same engine produces a maximum power of 120 PS and peak torque of 172 Nm. The Venue also offers a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine but both Grand i10 NIOS and the Hyundai Aura only offer a manual transmission.

Just like Aura 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol variants, the more powerful variants of the Grand i10 NIOS will get a few cosmetic changes. These changes include a blacked-out grille with Turbo badging in red coloured lettings. The car will also get blacked-out roof options, which will further enhance the sportiness of the hatchback. Even the interior of the Grand i10 NIOS powered by the new engine will be different from the regular variants. To carry forward the sporty element, the interior of the car will be available in an all-black theme. It is similar to what Hyundai Aura offers in the market.

Hyundai is yet to reveal the price of the vehicle and a timeframe for the launch of the new car powered by the 1.0-litre engine option. However, it is expected to be launched in the market soon. The Hyundai Grand i10 will join the 100 PS club of the hatchbacks like Ford Figo, Tata Tiago JTP and Volkswagen Polo.

The South Korean automobile giant also revealed the all-new Hyundai Creta, which will be launched next month in the Indian market. The all-new Creta offers a completely new look while keeping the DNA of the first-generation Creta alive. It will take on the Kia Seltos directly and is expected to become a segment-leader whenever it launches in the Indian market.

Maruti Ignis Facelift 1

Speaking at the unveil of the new Ignis, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said,

IGNIS enjoys a special place in the Maruti Suzuki NEXA portfolio and has been appreciated for its peppy drivability and spacious interiors. We have recognised an increasing preference for feature loaded cars that have SUV-like high seating position and dominant road presence. We are confident that the all new IGNIS with its SUV design and spacious interiors will appeal to the customers.

Maruti Suzuki offers a range of personalization options for the Ignis. In fact, the Ignis was the first car that Maruti offered through the NEXA chain with so many personalization options. While there have been many modified examples of the Ignis through the aftermarket route, taking that option could void the factory warranty. MG Motor has just unveiled the Gloster luxury SUV, which is essentially the India-spec version of the Maxus D90. The Gloster will challenge the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the luxury SUV segment. It is a global SUV that is already on sale in international markets such as China and Australia under different badges such as LDV and Maxus. In India, this SUV will be wearing the MG badge. The SUV is based on a body-on-ladder frame, which should give it enough ruggedness to take on all kinds of terrain.

Mg Gloster 1

The MG Gloster has already begun testing on Indian roads, and is pretty massive. Dimensions stand at  5,005 mm in length, 1,875 mm in height and 1,932 mm in width. A wheelbase of 2,950 mm means that this SUV has acres of space inside. It also makes it the largest SUV in its class. While the Chinese version is offered with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 225 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm, the India-spec version is likely to also offer a 2 liter turbo diesel engine in addition to the petrol motor.

The turbocharged petrol engine gets 6 speed manual and twin clutch automatic gearbox options. The diesel engine is based on the Fiat Multijet 2 liter unit but gets twin turbochargers to boost outputs. 218 Bhp of peak power and 480 Nm of peak torque is what the redesigned diesel engine is expected to offer. 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered with the diesel engine as well. A four wheel drive system is also on offer. Certain styling elements of this SUV have been revised to suit the Indian market. First, the badge is now MG, and grille, wheels and chrome highlights have also been tweaked to differentiate it from the LDV and Maxus models.

Mg Gloster 2

In terms of features, the MG Gloster is expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps with the adaptive feature, LED DRLs, on-board internet connectivity with connected car features, gesture controlled tailgate, ambient lighting, triple zone automatic climate control, digital instrument cluster, power adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functions, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The actual feature set will be revealed closer to launch, which is slated in a few months’ time. The SUV will be assembled through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route at MG Motor’s Halol factory in Gujarat. In terms of pricing, we expect it to be pegged close to the Toyota Fortuner’s price, at well under Rs. 30 lakh.

Tata Altroz electric car showcased at 2020 Auto Expo

Tata Motors has just showcased the electric variant of the recently launched Altroz premium hatchback. The car shares its lithium ion battery back with the recently launched Nexon EV, and is expected to go on sale in the Indian market by the end of 2020. While Tata Motors is yet to reveal the price point at which the Altroz EV will go on sale, we expect the premium hatchback to cost about Rs. 10 lakh at launch. The range of the car is also yet to be revealed.

Tata Altroz Ev 1

Going by what the Tata Nexon EV manages, it would be safe to assume that the Altroz would deliver a 250-300 kilometer range per charge, or even more, considering the fact that the much heavier Nexon manages a 300 Kms range per charge. The Altroz is likely to be very quick, doing the 0-100 Kph sprint in under 10 seconds. Top speed would be limited to about 140 Kph though, in the interest of conserving charge.

Like almost all electric cars sold in India, the Altroz EV will get an automatic transmission that makes driving absolutely hassle free. The automatic gearbox and the high torque nature of the electric motor – right from idle – is expected to make the Altroz not just very peppy but also smooth and linear in its torque delivery. Electric locomotive like pulling power and smoothness – that’s what most people are expecting from this car.

Tata Altroz Ev 2

Tata Motors is betting big on electric cars. The recently launched Nexon EV and the upcoming Altroz Electric are steps in this direction. Tata Motors already has the Tigor EV in production, and on sale in the Indian car market, both for the cab sector and private car buyers. Expect a slew of new electric cars from the Indian automaker, which made a big statement at the ongoing 2020 Indian Auto Expo, where it showcased the Tata Sierra concept with an electric powertrain.

Tata Motors also offers the Altroz with petrol and turbocharged diesel engines. The car was launched recently, and is slightly cheaper than the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai elite i2o – its prime rivals.

Tata Altroz Ev 3

The Altroz will soon get a turbocharged petrol engine that it will borrow from the Tata Nexon. Tata Motors is also said to be working on a twin clutch automatic gearbox for the Altroz. In its first month of sales, the Altroz has clocked a healthy 4,500 odd units. Tata Motors will be looking forward to much higher numbers once more variants and powertrains are launched for the car.

MG RC6 high-ground clearance sedan to take on Honda Civic: Shown at Auto Expo 2020

$

MG Motor’s first sedan for India will be a premium offering, with crossover-like high ground clearance. It’s called the RC-6 cross coupe, and was unveiled at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo. The car’s massive: it’s dimensions make it a Skoda Superb rival, with a length of 4,925 mm, width of 1,880 mm, height of 1,580 mm and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. And wait for this, a 198 mm ground clearance.

Mg Rc6 1

Well, this figure makes the RC6 a great option for almost every kind of road that India can throw at it. The car is expected to make its debut next year, and is likely to be sold as a much larger alternative to the likes of the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia, in the D-Segment sedan space. Bring it on, MG Motor, we say.

The MG RC6 sedan is essentially a re-badged Baojun RC-6, which is sold in the Chinese car market with a price tag of about Rs. 9 lakh. Aggressive localization and assembly through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route should allow MG Motor to price this car between the Rs. 15-20 lakh bracket. This should make it a very competitive car given the massive ground clearance, and dimensions on offer, which also means very spacious interiors.

Mg Rc6 3

The MG RC6 sold in China as the Baojun RC-6 is powered by a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 145 Bhp pf peak power and 250 Nm of peak torque. There are two gearboxes on offer: a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. Both gearboxes drive the front wheels of the car, which could be the poor man’s Volvo S60 Cross Country if offered with an all wheel drive layout.

Like most cars from MG Motor, the RC6 is not just big in terms of dimensions but also is quite loaded in terms of features. The interior design adopts a minimalist approach, with an airline style gearshifter, leather seats, a massive 12.3 inch high definition touchscreen infotainment unit, a 360 degree camera, 6 way power adjustable driver’s seat, a stereo with 9 speakers for rich sound and a hatch lid that gets gesture control.

Mg Rc6 4

Sedans – especially the ones in the D-Segment and higher – are a diminishing species in the Indian market, which is now dominated by SUVs. MG bringing in the RC6 could just make both buyers and manufacturers do a re-think on sedans. In that context, the MG RC6 is one of the path breaking cars showcased at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo.

Great Wall Motors of China will soon enter the Indian market with their range of vehicles. The Chinese automobile giant will launch vehicles under different brands in the Indian market and one of the most interesting vehicles from the brand will be an electric car. GWM showcased the new GMW R1 at the 2020 Auto Expo and it is expected to enter the Indian market in the coming months. When launched, it will become the most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market.

Gmw R1 3

The small, micro hatchback is a part of the 10 vehicles showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo by the manufacturer. The small electric car named as the R1 caught the attention of the most at the 2020 Auto Expo. It is already on sale in the Chinese market under the Ora brand and touted as the cheapest electric vehicle in the world. The GMW R1 sells at a price of Rs 7.2 lakh after subsidies in China.

The price of the vehicle in the Indian market is not known or indicated by the manufacturer yet. However, it will be very affordable and will be able to compete with the Mahindra eKUV, which was launched at the Auto Expo at a price of Rs 8.25 lakhs.

Gmw R1 4

GMW showcased two different trims of the car at the Auto Expo and both of them look equally good. To start with, the R1 gets round headlamps with DRLs integrated to them. There is a thick white enclosure in which the headlamps are positioned. The charging point is also located at the front of the vehicle. The headlamps get projector lamps. It gets a dual-tone paint scheme with a white base with contrasting colours. The two variants of the GWM R1 get alloy wheels and wheel covers separately and look quite good in real life.

The car comes powered by a 33 kWh battery pack that generates a maximum of 47 PS and peak torque of 125 Nm. It is a city car and can reach a top speed of 100 km/h. It also gets a fast charging option and can reach 80% charging level in just 40 minutes using a DC charger.

Gmw R1 2

The cabin of the GWM R1 also looks quite impressive and funky. It gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen with voice command system, dual airbags, ABS, parking sensors, reverse camera system, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist and many more such features. There is also autonomous emergency braking system but it is unlikely to be available with the India-spec version. The manufacturer has kept the cost low by offering features like butterfly rear windows.

Gmw R1 1

The manufacturer will launch its first vehicle in the Indian market in 2021. Haval H6 will be the first car from the manufacturer after which all other vehicles will be launched in a phased manner.

Auto Expo 2020: Maruti Ertiga is India’s first CNG powered car to go BS6

$

0

Maruti Suzuki has just launched the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission norms compliant, CNG powered version of the Ertiga MPV. The BS6 Maruti Ertiga CNG in VXi trim is priced at Rs. 8.95 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. With this, the Ertiga CNG becones the first CNG powered car to become BS6 compliant. In the coming weeks, expect a range of CNG powered cars across automakers get the BS6 certification. The car will be showcased at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo.

Maruti Ertiga Cng 2

The last date for BS6 compliance is 1st April, 2020. Transport departments across India will stop registration of BS4 vehicles from the 1st of April, 2020. So, if you’re in the market for a car or motorcycle or for that matter a truck, make sure that you get it registered before 31st March, 2020, if it’s a BS4 model.  Speaking at the introduction of the BS6 Ertiga CNG, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said,

As a market leader we are constantly working towards offering sustainable mobility solutions to our customers. Ertiga has been a market leader amongst MPVs, and the introduction of BS6 S-CNG will further help augment its leadership in the segment. Being the first Company to introduce factory-fitted CNG cars in the country, today we proudly own the largest portfolio of green vehicles. We would like to thank our customers for their confidence and trust in our products.

The Maruti Ertiga CNG BS6 delivers a fuel efficiency figure of 26 Km/Kg. The MPV is powered by a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated K-Series engine that can also be run on petrol in places where the availability of CNG dispensing infrastructure does not exist. A 5 speed manual gearbox is standard. In pure-petrol trim, this engine is also offered with a 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox option.

The CNG powered Ertiga makes reduced power and torque outputs: 91 Bhp-122 Nm, and while running on petrol, the engine’s full potential: 104 Bhp-138 Nm, is unleashed. Most owners won’t mind the power drop while running this MPV on CNG as it’s quite marginal, and the fact that CNG brings big savings in fuel costs.

In the next few months, Maruti is expected to launch more CNG-Petrol dual fuel cars as it steers away from diesel engined cars thanks to BS6 norms. The Indian government is also putting together CNG dispensing infrastructure in various parts of the country, with a view of shifting to CNG fuel. India has large reserves of natural gas, and shifting to CNG will be beneficial for the country as a whole.

MG ZS Petrol Compact SUV showcased at Auto Expo: Hyundai Creta challenger

$

0

MG Motor showed the ZS compact SUV at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo. While the automaker has remained mum about the ZS SUV’s launch timeline in India, the vehicle is expected to be here sometime next year, as a Hyundai Creta challenger. The MG ZS showcased at the Auto Expo is based on the same platform as the eZS electric SUV but gets a facelift, and runs on turbo petrol power.

Mg Zs 1

The MG ZS SUV’s dimensions are similar to that of the eZS; Length, breadth, height and wheelbase measure at 4,314 mm, 1809 mm, 1648 mm and 2,585 mm respectively. These dimensions make it smaller than the MG Hector, the brand’s best selling SUV in the Indian market. These dimensions also means that the ZS is likely to be MG’s Creta/Seltos rival, as and when the SUV is officially launched in the Indian market.

In China and other international markets where the MG ZS is sold, the SUV gets two engine options: a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with 118 Bhp-150 Nm outputs, and a 1.3 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 158 Bhp-250 Nm. The former gets a CVT automatic gearbox as standard while the latter is offered with a 6 speed automatic.

Mg Zs 2

MG Motor is expected to launch the turbo petrol engine and automatic gearbox in the ZS compact SUV sold in India. The SUV is expected to be built at MG Motor’s Halol factory in Gujarat, alongside the Hector. A high amount of localization will be essential for the ZS to be priced competitively. Going by how MG has priced both the eZS and Hector, a sharp price tag for the ZS Petrol compact SUV is very likely.

Mg Zs 3

As for features, the MG ZS sold abroad is available with a long list of conveniences. The panoramic sunroof, which now seems like a standard feature on most MG cars, is offered on the international ZS compact SUV, and the same is likely to make it to the top end trim in India as well.

Other features such as automatic climate control, push-button start, six airbags, ABS, traction control, electronic stability program, on-board internet access, a 10.1-touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car features, automatic headlamps and wipers will be offered on the top-trim of the compact SUV. A competitive price tag is vital in a market such as India, where automakers bet big on the value-for-money factor, especially in segments below 30 lakhs. The MG ZS is expected to cost about Rs. 11 lakh when it’s launched here sometime next year.

Suzuki Jimny is coming to the Auto Expo today: Are you excited?

$
0
0

The Jimny is an iconic SUV in Suzuki’s portfolio-it’s a small, light and frugal SUV that hold its own against the much more expensive Jeep Wranglers and Land Rover Defenders on tough, inhospitable terrains.

In short, it’s a true-blue SUV that could potentially fill the gap in Maruti’s portfolio that opened up once the equally iconic Gypsy retired after soldiering on for nearly 30 years. In fact, the Gypsy was a long-wheelbase version of the 2nd generation Jimny.

First launched in 1970, Jimny underwent its latest, 4th generation update in 2019. It is powered by the familiar 1.5-litre petrol engine that drives Ciaz, Ertiga and the XL6 in India. It produces 100 bhp and 130 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A 4-speed auto too is available.

While the power figures are nothing to write home about, Jimny weighs only a shade over a tonne even though it is based on a ladder-frame chassis and gets a 4×4 drivetrain with a transfer case that offers 2H (2WD-high gear), 4H (4WD-high gear), and 4L (4WD-low gear) gearing with Suzuki’s AllGrip technology. All of that combined give it remarkable off-road capabilities.

It also does quite well in the city though is not a great highway car. It has its quirks though—you really have to turn and turn the steering to change directions—this has been done to make the steering millimetre accurate for when you go off-roading.

The looks hark back to tradition SUV ethos: it’s tall, squarish and quite lovable with those round headlights. The overhangs have been reduced to minimum to improve approach and departure angles. It’s cute and sharp—the Mini Cooper of SUVs.

There is a lot to love about Jimny—there is nothing like it, anywhere. And that, in itself, is usually a good argument to bring it to India. But here is the thing: Jimny has 3 doors and can’t seat 4 adults comfortably, at least not for long. Maruti anyways has Brezza though it’s no off-roader.

So that’s Jimny for you which Maruti Suzuki is showcasing today at the Auto Expo 2020 though it has not yet committed to bringing it to India. Suzuki is also said to be working on a long wheelbase version of the Jimny, which will make it a lot more practical as an everyday car. The long wheelbase Sierra trim of the Jimny is expected to be showcased later this year. Do you want it? Does it get you excited? Let the folks at Maruti know…who knows they might just do the unthinkable!

Suzuki Jimny showcased at the 2020 India Auto Expo

The Suzuki Jimny has finally landed in India. Maruti Suzuki has just unveiled the iconic off-roader at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo. Introduced globally last year, the 4th generation Jimny is an affordable, three door off-roader that is currently available only in short wheelbase trim.

Suzuki Jimny 1

The Jimny sold in Japan is offered with a 660cc, triple cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, and a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder K-Series naturally aspirated petrol. Most of the global markets get the 1.5 liter K-Series motor, which makes about 104 Bhp-140 Nm, and is offered with two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed torque converter automatic.

The Jimny sits on a rugged body-on-ladder chassis, and dumps leaf springs on the rear axle with coil springs that make ride quality a lot better on bad roads. An optional four wheel drive layout is standard on this off-roader, whose short wheelbase and compact dimensions make it extremely potent off the road, even in stock form. For regular road use, the Jimny gets a rear wheel drive layout as standard.

On the inside, the Jimny features a spartan but functional dashboard, which hosts a touchscreen infotainment interface with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Much of the colour on the inside is black, and most buyers will not complain as the black colour makes it easier to clean after an off-road jaunt. As for safety, the Jimny is brought up to speed with latest safety regulations through twin airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors and a seat belt reminder.

Suzuki Jimny 2

Considering the fact that Maruti Suzuki no longer builds the Gypsy for the civilian market in India, the Jimny would be the perfect replacement if launched here. While a lot of off-roaders across India have been eagerly waiting for this legendary car, Maruti Suzuki remains mum about its production plans in India. While there’s been talk – on and off – about the Jimny being built at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat factories, both for domestic and export markets – the automaker is yet to officially confirm the same.

If enough show goers at the Auto Expo manage to convince Maruti Suzuki to bring the Jimny to India, the country’s largest car maker may just set the ball rolling as far as the India launch is concerned. For now, you’ll have to be content with the fact that the Jimny has at least landed in India, giving enthusiasts a first hand look and feel of what it’s all about.

Renault HBC sub-4 meter compact SUV missing from Auto Expo 2020

When Renault teased its upcoming compact SUV code named HBC, we thought we’d have our first of it at the Auto Expo 2020. What else could they have meant by ‘get the full picture’ line in the teaser!

Renault Kwid Hbc Compact Suv Render 1
A speculative render of the Renault HBC sub-4 meter compact SUV

Anyways, HBC is missing from Auto Expo 2020 and yet is apparently not that far from being launched. It even has a name, or a rumoured name, Renault Kinger.

What exactly is it, regardless of the name?

Renault HBC is sub 4-meter compact SUV that will battle against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue and the upcoming Kia Sonet.

So, should you bother with it?

Renault Kwid Hbc Compact Suv Render 2

Well, yes. The HBC or Kinger or whatever it is eventually called is likely to have one a big trump card up its sleeve: Price. With Kwid and subsequently Triber, Renault has shown that it can deliver compelling offerings at lower-than-Maruti prices.

In case of HBC, Renault is likely to raid the Triber parts bin, to keep costs low. Under the hood, the new sub 4-meter SUV might employ a new 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that will debut on the Triber MPV in not too distant a future. A larger, more powerful 1.3L turbo petrol motor too could be offered on the higher trims. While the engines may not be very powerful, Renault has a way of tuning them that makes them pleasant city drivers with their linear power delivery.

Renault also normally does a good job of suspension set up making the ride quite nice. So we would expect the same with HBC. The latest spy shots suggest the Renault HBC will carry a familiar grille, headlamps and fog lamp assembly at the front end that will be more upright than that of Triber. The side profile appears to be similar to Triber but with higher ground clearance and more prominent wheel arches to bolster its SUV credentials. As is the case with most Renault cars, expect it to be quite the looker.

In short, HBC could take the opposite tack to Hyundai Venue and target buyers at the lower end of the price bracket with a spacious, decent-to-drive and comfy sub 4 meter offering. Renault will be able to price it very affordably given the fact that it’ll dig into the parts bin of the CMF-A platform – a low cost platform meant specifically for emerging markets. But why is it missing from Auto Expo 2020? Anyone!

2020 Honda City & all-new Mahindra Thar: 2 cars missing from the Auto Expo but will be launched soon

2020 Honda City and Mahindra Thar are two very different cars targeted at very different set of buyers. Yet both are much awaited and both are expected to be launched soon.

2020 Honda City Sedan 3

Still, we didn’t get to see either of them at Auto Expo 2020. Honda City’s absence is understandable—Honda is not an exhibitor at the Expo. But Thar! Why is Thar missing? Or will Mahindra throw a surprise on the last few days. Looks a bit unlikely—Mahindra seems to be keeping its cards close to its chest. It did not show the much-awaited Scorpio or XUV500 either.

What we know about Honda City 2020

We expect the new City to be launched in March, 2020. The fifth generation Honda City 2020 has been launched in Thailand so we know that the nee car would be longer [by [113 mm longer at 4,553 mm] and wider [53 mm wider at 1,748 mm] than the current generation City. However, it is a low-slung coupe like design and therefore, it will not be as tall as the current City and will have a shorter wheelbase too.

2020 Honda City Sedan 6

In many ways, it takes design cues from the Civic particularly on the front side. The rear view mirrors have been moved to doors for better visibility. The rear is clean with the tail light cluster that looks a bit like the one BMW X4! The interiors too are quite different with more straight lines and premium quality material. The space is generous, both in the front and rear. So, it should be fine as a chauffeur driven sedan as well.

2020 Honda City Sedan 4

The new-gen Honda City comes with features like LED headlamps and taillights, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cruise control, six airbags and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), to name a few. India-spec Honda City should get additional features like an electric sunroof, rear parking sensors, a digital multi-info display, rear AC vents and more. The car will be powered by 1.5-litre diesel and petrol powertrains, which put out 117 hp/145 Nm and 100 hp/200 Nm respectively. Both powertrains can be had with either a 6-speed manual transmission, or a CVT. Expect a slight bump in prices as has been with every successive generation of City.

What we know about Mahindra Thar

2020 Thar Render Production

We expect two broad imperatives to drive the Thar upgrade: One is, of course, the new BS6 and safety norms and the other is to broaden the appeal of this rugged SUV without sacrificing its essential character.

Spy shots suggest that the new Thar, while retaining its Jeep-like looks, would be wider. It will be built on the same platform as the next-gen Scorpio with which it will share its body-on-ladder frame, engine, gearbox, four-wheel drive transfer case, brakes.

The Mahindra Thar will get front facing seats for the passengers at the rear, and will be a four-seater. A factory fitted hardtop, upmarket upholstery, a touchscreen infotainment system – possibly with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, driver and passenger airbags and also ABS should be on offer. A four-wheel-drive layout with a shift-on-the-fly feature from Borg-Warner is likely. Low and high ratios will be offered with the four-wheel-drive transfer case.
Mahindra has been tight-lipped about the engine option. We expect a 2 litre, 140 bhp unit to power the Thar.

But those are numbers and features. We expect Mahindra to refine the Thar quite a bit and that would better finish throughout, lower NVH and plusher ride on tarmac. Basically, things that will make Thar a more practical option for a larger set of people.

Now the big question is when will hit the showrooms?

We expected Thar to be there at the Auto Expo 2020 and then get launched in a month or so. The first bit hasn’t happened. And that could mean the second too might happen later than we thought.

The feature is already available with cars like Hyundai Venue and Aura in the Indian market.

Elite 1

The rear of the car will also offer a similar, aggressively designed tail lamp units. There will be a thick stripe connecting both the lamps that will further add sportiness to the whole look of the vehicle. Keeping up with the sporty nature, the car will offer dual paint job schemes and much such similar features.

The all-new Elite i20 also becomes larger in design. It will offer a larger cabin space and introduction of a long list of features too. Hyundai has always been known for their feature lists and the new Elite will be no different. Expect a larger infotainment system and design layout similar to the new Creta. Hyundai will utilise the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engin4 options on the car. We may also get to see a high performance 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine option.

Skoda Kodiaq, currently the only SUV from the brand in the Indian market will soon be launched with a petrol engine option in the Indian market. Skoda showcased the upcoming car at the 2020 Auto Expo and has revealed that will be launched in the market soon. We can expect that the vehicle will be launched in the Indian market before the BS6 implementation come into place next month. After the launch of the petrol engine option, Skoda will discontinue the diesel version of the model from the market.

The Kodiaq was available in the market only with a diesel engine option till now. However, Skoda showcased the Kodiaq with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will debut in the market in the coming weeks. The new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be BS6 compliant and will produce around 190 PS of maximum power with 320 Nm of peak torque.

Skoda will continue to offer all the features that are available with the current drivetrain of the car. The petrol-powered Kodiaq will also offer an AWD system while the turbocharged petrol engine will come with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Skoda will not update the 2.0-litre diesel engine to meet the BS6 norms, which will mark the end of the Skoda Kodiaq diesel in the Indian market. The same petrol engine will also power the Superb facelift model, which was showcased at the Auto Expo.

The vehicle remains identical cosmetically. It offers the same looks and the same feature list. Skoda showcased the top-spec Laurin & Klement version of the car at the 2020 Auto Expo. The car offers the same level of equipment including the Skoda’s Virtual Cockpit all-digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof and more such features as standard.

Since the petrol engine is BS6, additional equipment has been installed to make the car meet the emission norms. This is why the price of the vehicle is not expected to go down even with the petrol engine option. Skoda will continue to put a similar price tag that is available with the Skoda Kodiaq’s current versions. At the moment, Skoda offers the Kodiaq at Rs 32.99 lakhs for the base version while the top-end version gets a sticker price of Rs 36.79 lakhs.

Skoda is heading the India 2.0 strategy for the Volkswagen Group in India. The manufacturer will launch a slew of products in the Indian market in the coming time including the Vision IN in the production form. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Skoda will also launch the Octavia RS in limited numbers and will bring in updated products like the Rapid FL and the Superb FL.

Tata showcased the Safari Edition at the 2020 Auto Expo, which will be launched in the coming months. Tata showcased a new version of the Hexa, which will be launched in the market in the BS6 compliant version. The launch will happen after the BS6 emission compliance come into place, which will happen on 1st April 2020.

Hexa Safari

Cosmetically, the Tata Hexa Safari Edition remains unchanged largely. It offers similar looks with a few updates on the outside. The updates include new more masculine bumpers, blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels and Safari Edition badging in the rear of the vehicle. All the chrome parts in the vehicle have been blacked out to further make it look sportier. The Tata Hexa Safari edition looks much more intimidating than the regular version.

Safari1

Powering the Hexa Safari Edition will be the same 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine that is available with the current version of the SUV. It is currently available in two states of tune but the upcoming version of the car is expected to get the more powerful output. It will likely to produce a maximum of 154 PS of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The vehicle will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic options. The 6-speed manual version of the car will also offer an optional AWD system that is also available with the current version of the Hexa. The automatic version of the car will only be available in the 4X2. The 4X2 variants with both the transmission options will offer RWD.

On the inside, the Tata Hexa Safari edition remains identical to the current version. There are not many changes inside the car except for the new black-beige theme on the dashboard. Also, there is a new Safari badging plastered on the dashboard. Apart from that, the feature list is expected to remain unchanged too.

Safari 2

The vehicle will directly take on the Mahindra XUV500, which is a seven-seater vehicle too. It should be noted that Tata announced to continue to the Hexa model even though an upcoming vehicle from the brand will be positioned similarly in the market. Tata is working on the all-new Gravitas, which is the seven-seater version of the Tata Harrier. It will be launched before the festive season in the market. It will get the similar 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the Tata Harrier and will produce a maximum power of 170 PS, which will make it much more powerful than the Harrier. However, the Gravitas will get a 350 Nm engine and there will be no 4X4 option available with the vehicle too.
