It is illegal to modify vehicles in India due to safety reasons and police teams do work extra to get their hands on such modified units. If you’re a regular reader of this website, you may remember the 13-feet long handmade chopper motorcycle made by Zakir Khan in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Well, the RTO has now seized the modified bike and that too from the workshop of the owner.

Zakir Khan’s creation holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest chopped bike in the world. There are several other records that this long bike won from various record keeping books. However, the RTO has now seized the bike.

According to the video, the bike was parked at the workshop when the RTO official came knocking to seize it. They seized the bike because of the modifications are done it. The owner is furious and has made the video too.

In our story introducing the 13-feet long bike, we did mention that it is an illegal modification and can be seized by the authorities. However, the police cannot seized such modified examples from private places like a workshop, automobile shows and private roads like a racing track.

The motorcycle is now with the police and the owner is puzzled because he did not take out the motorcycle on the public roads. Any modified car or two-wheeler is not road-legal in India, especially if there are structural changes.

The owner will burn records in front of RTO

The owner says that since the bike is now seized and the cops did not give a reason for the same, he will protest against the move. Zakir Khan says that he will collect all the records that are made by the bike and will burn them in front of the RTO.

Zakir Khan has also identified an RTO officer who was in the team when they came to seize the vehicle from his workshop. The name of the officer is Ranjith GT. Zakir has found out that Ranjith GT has put numerous pictures with heavily modified vehicles on the social media platform. In some pictures, the RTO officer is in uniform too.

The owner Zakir Khan has made the video to urge the RTO commissioner Shivakumar to return the record-winning chopper to him.

About the bike

The bike was made with a total investment of around Rs 6 lakh according to the owner. It is massive in size and measures 13-feet in length, which has got the bike so many awards. It is powered by a 220cc engine from Bajaj Avenger and the rear tyre comes from a mini truck. The bike gets a massive 50-litre fuel tank and returns a fuel efficiency of only 7 km/l. It weighs a mammoth 450 kg.

UK’s Saietta group transforms Hero Xtreme & Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 into electric bikes

Electric vehicles are going to be the future of mobility around the world. In India things are no different and we have mainstream manufacturers like Hyundai, MG and Tata offering electric cars. Brands like Bajaj, TVS, Ather, Ola have also come up with electric two wheelers. Most of the electric two wheelers that we have in the market are scooters. An electric motorcycle is actually a rare sight on our roads. An electric mobility group from UK Saietta has developed a highly efficient electric motor and have already transformed Hero Xtreme and Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 motorcycles into EVs.

Saietta group has partnered with Padmini VNA which is a leading supplier in Tier 1 cities. Padmini VNA and Saietta group will work together to develop new opportunities for electric two-wheelers in the market. Padmini VNA already deals with manufacturers like Hero MotorCorp, TVS, Bajaj and Royal Enfield.

Saietta has developed a highly efficient electric motors with Axial Flux Technology (AFT). This new technology makes electric motor compact, light and can also be integrated into a wide range of electric vehicles like scooters, motorcycle, auto-rickshaws and micro cars. These motors are powerful and are torque dense in nature.

Coming to the electric versions of Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Hero Xtreme 160R, Saietta has made several changes to the regular motorcycle to transform it into an electric motorcycle. The first change is definitely the engine. The engine has been completely taken out in both the motorcycle to make space for the battery pack and electric motor. Saietta has developed two AFT electric motors. One is known as AFT 140 and the other is AFT 110. These motors are designed to offer greater efficiency, reliability and are cost effective.

The Royal Enfield Continental has been installed with an AFT 140. It is a high powered 52 volt motor which is perfect for Royal Enfield’s modified drivetrain. Other changes made on the Royal Enfield is the removal of clutch lever. As this is now an electric motorcycle, there is no need for a clutch lever. The clutch lever has been replaced for an electric brake which can be used to reduce the speed. The energy that is produced while braking the motorbike is converted into electricity and is stored back in the battery pack.

Coming to the Hero Xtreme 160R, just like the Royal Enfield, the engine has been removed and electric motor and battery is placed in that space. In Hero Xtreme 160R, Saietta has used 48 volt, AFT 110 electric motor. It is less powerful in comparison to the AFT 140 and suits the overall nature of the motorcycle. Both these motorcycles are prototypes and in Xtreme 160R, one of the unique feature is the swappable battery pack. The battery can be easily removed from the motorcycle and swapped for a fully charged unit.

As of now, the maximum driving range of these motorcycles on AFT electric motors is not mentioned but, Saietta mentions that their battery generates high torque at low voltage. This will enable vehicle manufacturers to reduce the required battery size for a given range which in turn will reduce the cost of manufacturing EVs.

Old-gen Mahindra Thar winches out Jeep Compass stuck in sand

Off-roading culture is gaining popularity among SUV owners. We have several videos available online where group of SUV owners are seen exploring off-road capabilities of their SUVs. These groups are normally lead by experienced people who have knowledge about the terrain and off-roading. Getting stuck while off-roading is quite common and that makes these trips more fun. We have featured several videos on our website in the past regarding off-roading. Here we have another off-road video where a pre-facelift Jeep Compass is recovered by an old-generation Mahindra Thar.

The video has been uploaded by Small Town Rider on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger and his friends are on a road trip along with other SUV owners. They were travelling in a group to a camp location next to a river. After reaching the location vlogger and his friend go out to explore the place a bit in their Mahindra Thar. The drive on a gravel road for some distance and stop at a dead end.

They comeback and then go to a river bed with a Jeep Compass. It looked like the owner of this Jeep Compass had not made any modification to the SUV. They enter the river bed and start having fun. The area was filled with sand and one wrong move meant, the SUV was going to get stuck. The sand was wet in some parts which made it even more tricky. Wet sand acted like dirt and the car would simply dig in at these places.

Jeep Compass is proper SUV and comes with 4×4 as well. After driving on the sand for some time, the Compass accidently gets into the wet sand section and the front gets royally stuck. The driver tried reversing the SUV but, the tyres were not able to gain traction. The wheels started spinning freely.

Mahindra Thar was also at the spot but, the SUV was fully modified for off-roading. It had off-road spec tyres, more ground clearance and also had a winch. After couple of unsuccessful trials, Mahindra Thar helped Jeep Compass get out of the situation. The Jeep Compass was pulled out of the sand using an electric winch. Jeep Compass was badly stuck in the sand. The wheels were covered in sand and mud and they were all freely spinning.

It was getting dark and that is why it was important for them to recover the vehicle. After couple of minutes, Mahindra Thar successfully winched Jeep Compass out. Jeep Compass is a capable SUV and it can do off-road duties but, in this case, the SUV was running on stock tyres and alloys and that could be the reason why it got stuck. It is also not clear whether they decreased the tyre pressure before entering the river bed.  This video also shows why it is important to always go off-roading in a group. If Jeep Compass was alone in this situation, the driver’s would have been in a lot of pressure. In this case, they had a back up vehicle which helped them come out.

Volkswagen is preparing the launch of its new mid-size SUV called Taigun. Here, we can see a Taigun that is being loaded off at a dealership. It looks like it is one of the lower variants of the Taigun. We are not sure if it is the base variant because the official details are still not revealed by the manufacturer.

The video is uploaded by Sharman D’Souza on his YouTube channel. In the video, we can see a red coloured Taigun. We can make out from the video that the SUV is missing alloy wheels, LED headlamps and a rear light bar. So, we know that this is a lower-spec variant.

We can see that the variant in the video gets wheel covers, halogen headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, a rear wiper, a shark-fin antenna, fog lamps and a rear parking camera. There is also a touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. The infotainment system should be a smaller unit. It will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Taigun will get the same engines as the Skoda Kushaq. So, there will be two petrol engines. There will be a 1.0-litre TSI for most of the people and then there will be a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI for people who are power-thirsty.

The 1.0 TSI produces 115 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 178 Nm whereas the 1.5 TSI produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines would be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Although, you would be able to get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with the 1.0 TSI and a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox with 1.5 TSI.

The wheelbase of the Taigun will be 2,651 mm which is one of the best in the segment. Also, it is the same one as the Skoda Kushaq. This is because both SUVs share the same underpinnings. They are based on a new MQB-AO-IN platform and the manufacturers are aiming at a localization level of 85 percent to price the SUVs competitively.

GT variant

There will also be a GT variant of the Taigun. The GT variant would get dual-tone alloy wheels, red brake calipers and GT badging on the front grille and tailgate. Additionally, it would come with LED projector headlamps cornering lamps and a sportier bumper with a faux skid plate.

Features

The Taigun would come with a new generation of infotainment system while the lower variants would get a smaller touchscreen infotainment system. Both would support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It would also come with a digital instrument cluster which is missing on the Skoda Kushaq.

Other features include a multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop, red ambient lighting, electric sunroof, ventilated front seats and much more. It will also come with rear parking camera, electronic stability control, hill hold control and up to 6 airbags.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire converted to an electric car using a conversion kit

The future of transportation is electric. Even in India, electric vehicles are gaining popularity slowly. Recently, Tata Motors said that the demand for the Nexon EV is the same as the diesel variants of the Nexon. In India, we also get Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV. Maruti Suzuki is also working on their first electric vehicle which is expected to debut in 2022 or 2023. Here, is a video uploaded on YouTube by PluginIndia Electric Vehicles. In the video, we can see a Maruti Suzuki Dzire that has been converted to run on electricity.

The person behind the project is Hemank. The conversion is done at Northway Motorsport. He bought a brand new Maruti Suzuki Dzire and they had to design everything from scratch. Everything is analyzed and is tailor-made only for this Dzire. The charger, battery pack, converter, motor, fuses, switches etc are made in house. This is done so that they don’t have to alter the stock vehicle because of the electric kit. This makes it more efficient and cost-effective.

Under the bonnet, you would see a lot of electrical components and no engine. Hemank did not reveal the details about the electrical components because most of the stuff was sent for patenting. The 0-100 kmph acceleration time of internal combustion-powered Dzire is around 12 seconds whereas the electric Dzire can do it under 10 seconds.

Electric motors are producing a lot more torque than the internal combustion engine. Due to this, this Dzire has hit a top speed of 160 kmph. The setup that the Dzire is using is smaller than the Nexon EV and Nexon EV has a top speed of 120 kmph.

The driving range depends on the battery pack you choose. You have 20 kW, 25 kW and 30 kW. The 20 kW battery should be able to deliver a driving range of 240 km. The battery pack takes 8 hours to recharge. Although you also have the support of fast charging which should charge the battery pack in just an hour. You also get regenerative braking. The charging port is located where the usual fuel lid is.

There is no compromise done to the boot capacity or the spare wheel. So, you get the whole boot space and even the chassis is unchanged. Everything is fitted underneath the body and in the engine bay. The certification of the kit is still pending for commercial production because they have not finalised the partner yet. However, the kit is certified for testing purposes.

Then Hemank takes the host for a test drive. He puts the vehicle in first gear using the clutch. Because the torque is always available, the Dzire starts with a wheel spin. The sedan effortlessly hits 80 kmph. Hemank says that the aim behind this is that the EV experience should be at an affordable price. The vehicle feels at par or faster than the petrol version of the Dzire. Because there is no engine, there is no noise and vibrations. So, the NVH levels have improved drastically. Overall, the conversion kit looks pretty good and the conversion has been done pretty neatly.

What all of us want the Mahindra XUV700 7 seat SUV to look like

$

0

Recently images of a production-spec XUV 700 were leaked online. The images showed the front as well as the rear of the SUV. The XUV 700 is the most hyped vehicle of 2021. Due to this, people’s hope was quite high and when the pictures leaked, most of the people were disappointed with the design of the SUV. So, few artists on the internet started making their own version of the XUV 700. Here is one made by SRK Designs that shows us only the front of the upcoming SUV.

The render does look quite nice. The front-end design looks aggressive and modern. It also carries a new badge for Mahindra which is expected to debut with the XUV 700. The designer has taken some inspiration from the leaked spy shots.

There is a masculine bonnet with lots of creases that come forward to the front grille. The grille itself is huge and all-new. It still gets Mahindra’s six vertical slats. There is an air dam in the lower half of the bumper and we can also see a radar mounted in the centre of the air dam. There are also LED foglamps that will also function as cornering lights.

The headlamps are the most unique thing about the XUV 700. They have a unique C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamp that surrounds the main headlamp unit which also consists of LED units. Recently, Mahindra itself teased the headlamp design of the XUV 700 and it did look quite good. The render here is finished in a deep blue colour.

Leaked pictures

The leaked pictures were not so clear and they might have got skewed due to which the proportions of the SUV were looking a bit abnormal. Even in the spy pics, the SUV with camouflaged looked quite good. So, it is important that we wait for the official launch of the XUV 700 because these pictures are not doing justice to the design of the vehicle.

The pictures of the XUV 700 were leaked online. The front still looks decent, it is the rear quarter from where the SUV looks like it has proportions of a MPV. Even the alloy wheels look quite small in the wheel arches. The picture does look skewed as the rear proportions are quite large when compared to the bonnet line of the SUV.

At the side profile, there are strong and pronounced wheel arches just like we saw on the XUV 500. There are 5-spoke alloy wheels and for some reason, the outside rearview mirror is finished in a different colour than body colour. It also has two fuel caps for some reason. We can assume that one is for the AdBlue while the other is one is for refilling the diesel tank.

Other things we can see are the flush door handles which are a first in the segment. There is also a shark fin antenna and a rear wiper with a washer. There are LED tail lamps and LED headlamps. There is a chrome belt that runs throughout the windows. All the pillars have been finished in black colour except the A-pillar.

Bandipur Tiger Reserve takes action against Mahindra XUV500 driver for feeding wild animals

$

You might have seen signs while travelling through a wildlife sanctuary or a national park that the tourists are not allowed to feed the wild animals. Still, some people ignore it and feed the wild animals for fun or for taking pictures. Well, a picture went viral on the internet in which a person from a Mahindra XUV500 can be seen feeding a deer. The department of Karnataka Forest Department has found the person and has taken an action against him.

The person has been identified as a journalist from New Delhi. The journalist works in a national channel. The incident happened on August 3rd at 11 AM on the road that links Bandipur and Ooty. The picture was taken by someone who was coming from the opposite side and the picture was uploaded on the internet.

The officers of Bandipur Tiger Reserve tracked down the vehicle. The journalist was penalised and then let go after a warning. He also admitted his mistake. Travellers often throw their food on the roads or feed the animals. This causes animals to wander around the roadside in hunt of food. Due to this, there have been incidents where the animals were run over by vehicles that were coming at high speeds.

A forest officer said, “We have issued orders banning taking pictures in the wild, stopping vehicles and at the same time, we have installed signboards warning tourists to respect the wildlife as we are in their territory. Despite this, the rules are violated. We are levying a fine for tourists pulling over, getting out of their vehicles, clicking selfies, walking about and even feeding animals. They ignore signages,”

Wild animals are unpredictable

You never know how a wild animal would behave in a situation. If a person feeds an animal on the side of the road and then leaves, the animal can expect that the next person would also feed them. Due to this, they would return to the same spot. It is not necessary that the next person also feeds them. The animals might block the road and can get aggressive if the person does not feed them.

Wild animals are sensitive

Wild animals are very sensitive to small things. For instance, diesel clatter, cranking the engine, horns, revving the engine or anything that the animals are unaware of or are listening to for the very first time. This is one of the reasons that during Safaris the vehicles have to turn off their engine because the wild animals can hear them from a distance.

Because these animals are not familiar any sudden movements can also make them angry. They might attack you because they think that you are trying to harm them. You must remember that you are entering their territory and it is their home and they would do anything to protect it. If you come across a herd on the road then it is best to park the vehicle on the side of the road and wait for them to leave. You do not want to scare them. Animals like rhinos and elephants easily crush a car because of their weight.

Honda Civic is one of the most popular premium sedan in the modification circles. We have seen several examples of tastefully modified old generation Honda Civic sedans in the country. Every modified Honda Civic has something unique in it and that is what makes them different. Although, Honda Civic has a huge fan base in India, it was never commercially successful in India. Honda even launched the tenth generation Civic in the market in 2019 and in 2020 Honda officially discontinued it. We have featured many modified Honda Civic sedans on our website and here we have another sedan that gets modifications worth Rs 12 lakh on it.

The video has been uploaded by Arun Smoki on his YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger talks about all the modifications that have been made to this Honda Civic. First thing that one would notice on this Honda Civic is the body graphics. The base colour on this Civic is Candy Red and printed graphics have been pasted on it. He mentions that the graphics seen on the car are not printed but, the pattern was created by individually pasting each piece of vinyl.

These patterns are spread across several parts of the car. The headlamp has been customised and it now comes with projector type lamps and integrated LED DRLs in it. The front grille has been replaced and the front gets a sporty looking body kit. There are LED lights on the new bumper too. The bonnet of the car has been modified and it now comes with scoops on it. The fenders have been modified and they now get air vents on side of the car.

Only two of them are functional.

The compressor for the air suspension installed on this Honda Civic is neatly placed inside the boot and the height or ground clearance of the car can be reduced or increased using a remote or switch that is installed inside the cabin. The owner has also installed an aftermarket exhaust which has a sporty note to it. On the inside, the dashboard in hydro dipped and gets carbon fiber finish. The stock seats have been replaced for racing seats at the front. There are analog meters installed on the left side A pillar showing battery voltage, Oil temperature and other details. Why is everyone still buying Toyota Fortuner? We explain

$

0

Toyota Fortuner is the best selling full-size SUV in the Indian market. It has kept its lead for a very long time now. There are people who are buying a pre-owned Totota Fortuner instead of a new mid-size SUV. So, what is it that makes Fortuner so successful? Today, we answer this.

Toyota’s brand image

Toyota vehicles are known for their bulletproof reliability. Ever since the manufacturer entered the Indian market with Qualis which was an MPV. The Qualis was a hit in the market. It was 2009 when they launched the Fortuner in the Indian market. The model was very successful because of its butch SUV styling and capabilities. It became the best selling SUV in the segment while other SUVs came and go. The Fortuner is also used by many politicians as their convoys because of its image.

Resale value

Toyota’s resale value is significantly higher than the competitors. Even today, there are examples of pre-owned Toyota Fortuners that are selling for around Rs. 15 lakhs whereas the newer generation models are still going for more than Rs. 20 lakhs. Toyota itself says that their vehicles hold 68 percent of their value even after 5 years.

Good sales network

Toyota has one of the best sales networks in India. You would be able to find a service centre in every major city or town of India. Toyota has almost 400 service outlets and more than 80 dealerships across India. Toyota offers a standard warranty of three years or up to 1 lakh kilometres with the Fortuner. You can even extend the warranty up to five years if you get the extended warranty package. This gives peace of mind to not only the owner but also the second owner who is buying the vehicle from the original owner. The manufacturer also offers roadside assistance. So, even if something breaks down then a tow truck can be sent to provide assistance.

Affordable service

You might be aware that Toyota has one of the most affordable service costs in our automobile industry.  Because the engines are so reliable it is very rare that something breaks or goes wrong. So, the owner just needs to do timely general service which does not cost much. The cost of service for the Toyota Fortuner is the least in the segment. Many people do consider the maintenance cost while buying a new vehicle.

Many variants to choose from

There is a Fortuner for everyone. You can get it with a petrol engine, diesel engine, manual gearbox, automatic gearbox and even all-wheel drive. The petrol engine is only offered as a 4×2 but you can get it with a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. The diesel engine on the other hand can opt for a 4×4 or a 4×2. Both of which are offered with a manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox. An option of a petrol engine is something that makes the Fortuner unique in the segment because no other competitor offers a petrol engine.

Reliable diesel engine

The diesel engines of Toyota are famous all over the world for their reliability. The diesel engine has a high thermal efficiency of 44 percent, making the engine one of the most thermal efficient diesel engines ever made. The engine was retuned with the facelift. So, now Fortuner’s diesel engine produces 204 PS of max power and 500 Nm of peak torque.

Mahindra launched their all-new Bolero Neo compact SUV in the market last month. It may look like a rebadged version of TUV300 but, Mahindra had made several changes to the SUV to differentiate it from TUV300. One of the main difference is the chassis itself. Mahindra has also made some cosmetic changes to the Bolero Neo to give it a slightly different look. What makes Bolero Neo superior or probably the most capable 2WD SUV in its segment is MTT (Multi-Terrain Technology) or MLD. It is actually a feature that is quite useful while you are driving off-road. Here we have a video that shows how the MLD in the all-new Bolero Neo works.

The video has been uploaded by Power On Wheel on their YouTube channel. Before we start explaining much about the video, let’s have a quick look on what MLD or the Mechanical Locking Differential actually does. While driving off-road, the possibilities of wheels getting stuck are very high. At times, one of the wheels spins freely in air. In this case, Bolero Neo is a rear wheel drive SUV and if any one of the rear wheel gets stuck, MLD gets activated when the driver accelerates.

The wheel which is in the air or is stuck stops spinning when MLD is activated. The power that was being sent to the freely spinning wheel is then sent to the other wheel which is their on the ground and has traction. The wheel that has traction smoothly gets the SUV out from such tricky situation. MLD works when the wheel which has no traction starts spinning freely over a particular RPM. In this video, vlogger drives the SUV on an off-road zone where the MLD can actually work.

In the video, Bolero Neo is driven on a track with deeper ruts in it. One of the wheel was always in air while driving through this section. The MLD can be seen doing its job. As the driver accelerates over a particular RPM, MLD gets engaged with a thud sound. After this, the wheel with the traction gets all the power and the SUV moves out without any problem. Mahindra Bolero Neo is the only compact SUV in the segment to get this feature.

It should be noted that Mahindra is only offering the MLD or MTT with the top-end version of Bolero Neo. Mahindra Bolero is based on a third generation chassis and that has definitely improved the handling capability of the SUV on off-road conditions. Bolero Neo gets halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, revised front grille and bumper. Fog lamps, 15 inch alloy wheels, spare wheel mounted on tailgate and so on.

Not many changes have been made to the interior of the Bolero Neo. It multi-function steering wheel, dual tone dashboard, touchscreen infotainment system, analog instrument cluster with MID and so on. Mahindra Bolero Neo is available in N4, N8, N10 and N10(O) variants. It is powered by a 1.5 litre mHawk diesel engine, The engine generates 100 Ps and 160 Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

People have started modifying Hyundai Creta SUVs and we have featured some of them on our website too. Here we have a Hyundai Creta with 20 inch alloy wheels and some other modifications.

The video has been uploaded by 47 NATION on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger talks about all the modifications that are done to the SUV. This is an SX trim Hyundai Creta which means it came with decent amount of features already. It looks like the owner wanted more and went ahead with the modifications. At the front, The front grille gets a chrome garnish on it. A body skirting has been installed on the front bumper which gives it an aggressive look.

Like many other car modifications that we have seen in the past, the owner has used a lot of chrome garnish on the car to give it a premium finish. The whole car gets PPF coating and there is a silver finished vinyl on the front door as well. The main attraction on this Hyundai Creta are the wheels. The Creta gets massive 20 inch aftermarket alloy wheels. Hyundai Creta comes with 17 inch alloy wheels from factory. The wide 5 spoke chrome finished alloy wheel are wrapped with low profile tyre. The wheels are wide and slightly extend out from the body.

The owner has also installed LED strips inside the wheels which glow at night. Rain visors, lower window garnish have also been installed on the car. Coming to the rear, no major modifications are seen here. The owner installed a chrome applique between the tail lamps, an aftermarket diffuser on rear bumper along with some LED reflector lights.

Moving inside, Creta SX already comes with features like panoramic sunroof, touchscreen infotainment screen and so on. Owner customised the speaker system in the car and installed dual tone seat covers in it. He also installed floor mats and also tinted the windows and sunroof slightly. One of the modification that owner has done in this Creta is the starlight roof. The roof liner has lights installed in them but, video does not show how they look. Other than these modifications, owner has also installed flashing lights, siren and ambient lights in the car.

Owner mentions that he has spent around Rs 2.30 to Rs 2.50 lakh on the modification. The car definitely looks different but, is it the best modified Creta that we have seen in India? we are not sure. The large alloy wheels along with the low profile tyres look great but, they would definitely affect the ride quality and handling of the vehicle. Hyundai offers Creta with three engine options. There are two petrol and one diesel engine on offer.

Mahindra Scorpio with train horn shows why exactly pressure horns are BANNED

India is a nation where you would see a lot of people using their horns when they are travelling. German manufacturer, Audi had to change their horns to a heavy-duty one because in India their horns kept breaking. This happened because Indians use their horn more than other countries. People fit various types of horns, they often upgrade them. Here, is a video in which a person has fitted a train’s horn to his vehicle.

The video is uploaded by Sonam Chib on his YouTube channel. He is recording the reactions of the people on the street whenever the driver honks his horn. The vehicle that is being used here is a Mahindra Scorpio. The person has fitted a train’s horn to the SUV as you can listen to the video.

The driver does not seem to care while using the horn. The horn is very loud and we can see that some people are getting scared because of it. The driver is continuously causing a nuisance to the pedestrians. The occupants can be heard laughing and giggling. Such horns are very dangerous. We can even see him using the horn in standing traffic. Such horns can cause serious issues to hear patients and senior citizens. Such horns can create stress and anxiety.

Pressure horns

There are certain rules and regulations against the use of such pressure horns. Usually, you would see such people who are using these horns in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This is because the rules in these cities are not so strict. In Tier 1 cities, traffic cops could stop you if they catch you using any kind of pressure horns. However, traffic cops of Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are not so strict and do not pay much attention.

According to the rules and regulations, the permissible limit for the horns lie between 96 dB and 112 dB. The new norms that are expected to get approved will bring the permissible limit down to 110 dB. Pressure horns are mostly used by busses and trucks to make others aware of their presence. Trains or heavy locomotives use such horns to announce their arrival because they are travelling at a very high speed. Such high speeds when compiled with heavyweights produces momentum which increases the braking distance of the locomotives.

Cops can seize vehicles

Traffic cops are allowed to seize the vehicles that have such pressure horns. They have special equipment that can measure the sound levels. If the sound level from the horns exceeds the permissible limits then they can seize the vehicle or the driver would have to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000. If the driver is caught for a second time then the fine is increased to Rs. 2,000.

Could be useful while off-roading

One reason in which such horns can be considered on road-going vehicles is that the owner is during the vehicle for off-roading. If a person’s vehicle gets stuck while off-roading such horns can help others in finding the stuck vehicle.

India became one of the fastest-growing automobile markets in the world before the COVID-19 pandemic. Even now, there is an addition of thousands of cars to the Indian roads every single day. It makes the roads congested but also makes every other car a common sight. Well, if you really want to stand out, these are a few cars that can help you do that. Here are five mass-segment affordable cars that stand out in the crowd.

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra launched the all-new Thar in the Indian market last year. It remains highly popular the waiting period on the model is only increasing. The second-generation Thar carries forward the retro design with a modern look. Inspired by the iconic Jeep design, the all-new Thar definitely catches a lot of eyes on the roads. Mahindra offers the new Thar with various factory-fitted roof options, which attracts a lot of customers.

Force Gurkha

2020 Force Gurkha 2

Even though the Force Gurkha is not available in the market at the moment, the all-new model will arrive at the showrooms at any moment now. Force Motors showcased the all-new Gurkha at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV was expected to be launched last year. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the launch. The new Gurkha looks much more aggressive and attractive compared to the discontinued model. It also gets the classic jeep shape. In fact, the design of the Gurkha is inspired by the old G-Wagens and it definitely stands out in a sea of automobiles.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross

India is not a market for pick-up trucks and many failed models in the past have proved that. Isuzu somehow captured the lifestyle segment customers with the D-Max V-Cross. It is currently the only pick-up truck available to private car owners in India. It measures more than 5.2-metres and the massiveness definitely looks apart on the roads that are mostly filled with budget hatchbacks. The V-Cross has the presence of a dominating road. Isuzu recently updated the V-Cross and launched the BS6 compliant engine with the vehicle. It remains decently in demand even now.

Nissan Kicks

With the competition from the likes of Creta and Seltos, the vehicles like Kicks and Capture really could not come up on the sales chart. However, Kicks really looks different on the roads, especially its dual-tone variants that come with a contrasting colour on the roof. Nissan launched the Kicks with a more powerful turbocharged petrol engine that has got the interest of customers. But the sales are nowhere near the models from the competition. With the low numbers of sales and unique looks, the Kicks sure has the power to capture a lot of eyes on the roads.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

S Presso

Maruti Suzuki entered the micro-SUV with the Ignis and that car stands out in the crowd too. The S-Presso, however, with its small size and SUV shape gets a lot of attention on the roads. It is sold through the Arena sales channel and just like any other Maruti Suzuki car, it is quickly becoming a common sight on the roads. However, it remains an interesting package to look at on the public roads.

Modified Mahindra Thar is ready for overlanding expeditions

Mahindra Thar is one of the most modified vehicles in India. People often modify it according to their own tastes. Some people modify it for proper off-roading while others modify it for urban use and so on. Here, we have an interesting modification done by an owner of Thar. He has opted for an overlanding setup for his Thar.

The video is uploaded by Abhinav Bhatt on his YouTube channel and he takes us for a walkaround of the SUV. The modifications are done by Classic Service Point, Noida. The modification took just 15 days. The roof rack and the accessories on the top cost around Rs. 1.5 lakhs alone.

There is a roof rack installed on top of the stock hard top of the Thar. The roof rack is full-body mounted. So, it is mounted in the front fender, near the rear window, on the B-pillar and then directly into the chassis in the rear. So, the roof rack is held securely and it won’t shake or rattle. The roof rack also has an anti-scratch coating so that the rack is not damaged by scratches. Climbing up the rack is also fairly easy because it comes with footsteps that can be opened and can be used to climb up.

The rack has a payload capacity of 200 kgs. There are four jerry cans on the roof rack. Two of them are for diesel which has a capacity of 5 litres each and it has two water tanks with a capacity of 20 kgs each. There is also a showel and two sand ladders securely placed on top of the jerry cans.

After keeping all this stuff still, there is enough space for an overlanding tent which is currently not placed or you can use that space to keep your stuff because Thar does not really have a big boot. What is interesting is there is a water pump mounted near the jerry can. The water pump is connected to the water tanks and there is piping till the rear door. There is a switch placed on the tailgate which can be used to turn on the water pump. In the tailgate, there is also a tray placed which can be used to cook.

The rear seats are also modified. The stock seats would fold down but the modified seats can be lifted up. So, it makes a lot more room for your luggage. There are also lights mounted all around the roof racks. They are dual-purpose lights so they can turn white and yellow. Limb risers are also installed to protect the windshield from branches and trees as while off-roading and overlanding the trees can easily break the windshield.

Most of the equipment that has been used to modify the Thar is designed in-house by Classic Service Point. The interior has not been changed by the shop because the owner wanted to modify the SUV as an overlander.

Here’s how cops bust you for speeding: First ever in-depth look of a police interceptor

$

0

Overspeeding is one of the prime reasons for accidents in India. The authorities and the law enforcers do try to keep the speeding vehicles in check by implementing speed detecting cameras on the roads and highways. There are fixed type speed detecting cameras that are permanently installed on the poles. Police also surprise the road users by using Interceptor vehicles that have such speed detection cameras installed. These are mobile and can be positioned anywhere along the roads.

Here is a live video that shows how speed detecting cameras work. The video by Keshav Today shows how the cops use the set-up. The video is from Haryana. The cops here are using radar-based speed detection systems, which are more widely used around the world. However, there are also laser-based speed detection systems, which are more advanced and precise.

The speed trap camera is installed in the boot of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga of the police team. There is an operator who targets various cars to check the speed. The camera shows the speed of the moving vehicle to inform the operator. The operator then tells the vehicle number to his colleagues who stop and issue an overspeeding challan to the violators.

During the live video, two cars crossed the speed limit of 90 km/h. The cops waved them to stop and issued a challan. The cops also said that they have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 and the license gets barred for 3 months. It is a court challan, which means that the violator will have to visit the court to submit his license and the challan amount. In India, the fine for speeding has increased over the years to discourage motorists from speeding.

How do the speed trap cameras work?

Since they used radar-based cameras, we will only talk about the technology used in this system. A radar camera uses the Doppler Effect to detect the speed of the cars. The radar can be of different forms including the handheld guns or the ones that we see here.

The radar-based camera throws radio waves that travel at the speed of light. The radio wave hits the moving vehicle and depending on the speed, the frequency of the radio wave gets compressed. When the wave travels back to the radar-based camera, it then calculates the speed in real-time. The same system can be used for cars that go away from the camera. In that case, the frequency of the radio waves become longer or longitudinal.

Laser guns also use similar technology but they are much more precise and much more expensive as well. Modern radar-based cameras also come with an ANPR or Automatic Number Plate Recognition system that also correctly identifies the registration number of the car.

In most cases, the cops remain hidden from the view of the motorists but this video shows them parked right on the highways, which can be dangerous to the motorists as well. The range of radar-based cameras is about 2 km, depending on the cameras.

Brazil’s farmers can now exchange their foodgrains for a Toyota Fortuner, Corolla and Hilux

Toyota has introduced a very interesting sales technique for the customers related to the agricultural sector in Brazil. The customers can exchange their produce which includes soybean and corn for a Toyota Hilux which is a pick-up truck based on the Fortuner or a Toyota SW4 aka Fortuner or a Toyota Corolla Cross SUV. The manufacturer is marketing this scheme as “Toyota Barter” and it was launched recently on 4th August.

The manufacturer will be considering the market value of the foodgrains. They will be weighing the produce and then the value will be considered. It is important to note that this scheme is not for everyone. It is only for the agricultural areas. Toyota would be ensuring that the buyer is certified for rural production of these crops. The product itself should be of good quality.

Toyota Barter has been launched in Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Piauí in Brazil. Toyota is considering launching the new sales project in Mato Grosso do Su, Paraná and São Paulo. This new scheme was introduced to improve sales in the agricultural sector. Currently, 16 percent of Toyota’s sales come from the agricultural sector.

Toyota Hilux in India

Since last year there are rumours that Toyota will be launching the Hilux pick-up truck in India. The Hilux in India will directly compete against the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Isuzu itself recently updated the V-Cross with a facelift.

Pick-up trucks are not very successful in the Indian market. The only manufacturer that has been able to break into the pick-up truck market and has some success with it is Isuzu. Tata Motors tried with the Xenon and Mahindra did with Scorpio Getaway. But both the manufacturers failed and eventually discontinued the vehicles.

The dimensions of the Hilux will be pretty close to the current Isuzu V-Cross. The length of the Hilux should be around 5.3 metres while the wheelbase would be more than 3 metres. The Hilux is based on the same platform as the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta. The platform is called IMV-2 but the Hilux will be longer than both the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta.

The underpinnings of the Hilux are the same as the Fortuner. So, we can also expect the interior to be the same. It could use a similar-looking dashboard and seats. The infotainment system would also be the same. Sharing the underpinnings would help in lowering the production costs.

The powertrain would also be the same as the Fortuner and Innova Crysta. So, the lower variants could get a 2.4-litre diesel engine from the Innova. The engine produces 150 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. This engine would be available only with rear-wheel drive. The higher variants would come with four-wheel drive and will use the diesel engine from the Fortuner. It is a 2.8-litre engine that produces 204 PS of max power and 500 Nm of peak torque.

Having said that, Toyota has not yet announced anything officially. But if the rumours are true then the Hilux could be priced competitively in the Indian market.
