Earlier, I made cars shaped like a cricket ball, cricket bat, snooker ball and more whenever a significant match was scheduled and Indian players were contending.

As mentioned above, K Sudhakar is a person who likes building unique looking cars. This is his 58th car and he mentions that his aim is to make 100 such unique looking cars. He made a helmet shaped car for creating awareness about road safety and he also designed a car recently that was shaped like Coronavirus.

As mentioned above, Mr. Sudhakar has a museum where all these car have been displayed for general public. The ongoing pandemic has affected the number of visitors here as well. After second wave, the museum was opened for public last week and the number of people of people visiting the museum are increasing since then. Mahindra has announced an extension to its warranty period for their Bolero Power+ and Scorpio. Both the SUVs sell in good numbers for the manufacturer. The warranty program is called Shield and through this, the customers can extend their warranty by two years which means that they can get an uninterrupted warranty period of 7 years. For Bolero Power+ the warranty coverage is for 1.5 lakh kilometres whereas Scorpio gets a warranty coverage for 1.7 lakh kilometres.

The Shield warranty package already covered the uncertain mechanical and electrical breakdowns. However, now it can be extended up to 7 years or the kilometres specified above. The extended warranty would get activated immediately after the original warranty expires.

The homegrown manufacturer is also offering an in-house warranty program that ensures faster coverage approval and claims settlement. The extended warranty also provides flexibility in terms of transfer of ownership. It also increases the resale value of the vehicle because the next owner would have peace of mind as the vehicle is covered by the extended warranty. So, even if something breaks, he can get it covered under an extended warranty. The customers can buy the extended warranty program as a one-time payment or easy EMIs.

Bolero

You might not see Bolero on the urban roads but that does not mean it does not sell well. Bolero sells in good numbers in rural areas. This is because it has proven its reliability and in rural areas, people want something that is reliable and can last for lakhs of kilometres. The Bolero Power+ was sold with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 71 PS of max power and 195 Nm of peak torque. It only came with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It was also equipped with Mahindra’s micro-hybrid technology.

Mahindra also recently launched the Bolero Neo recently. It is based on the TUV 300 but has a revised front-end design. Some elements from the Bolero has been taken and implemented to the design of the Bolero Neo. It also comes with the same engine as the TUV300 but the torque output has been increased. So, the Bolero Neo puts out 100 PS of max power and 260 Nm of peak torque using its 1.5-litre diesel engine. The Bolero Neo starts at Rs. 8.48 lakhs ex-showroom and is the most rugged compact SUV that you can buy. This is because it is the only compact SUV that is based on a ladder-frame chassis and is rear-wheel drive.

Mahindra Scorpio

Scorpio is the SUV that put Mahindra on the radar of many people. It is known for its upright design and ruggedness. The Scorpio starts at Rs. 12.59 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 17.39 lakhs ex-showroom. It comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that is offered in two states of tune. There is a 120 PS and 280 Nm for the lower variant while the higher variants get 140 PS and 320 Nm.

New Generation Scorpio

Mahindra is working on a new generation of Scorpio. It will be based on a reworked ladder frame chassis. The dimensions of the new generation will be much larger than the current one. It will be offered with a petrol as well as diesel engine. Both of which will be more powerful than the current engine. The new Scorpio will enter the Indian market in the first half of 2022.

Honda has officially teased the upcoming facelift of the Amaze compact sedan. The booking amount has been set at Rs. 5,000 if you book via Honda from Home. The dealerships are accepting a token amount of Rs. 21,000. There are several updates to the upcoming Amaze facelift. It will be launching on 18th August.

Mr Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President and Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “Since its debut in 2013, Honda Amaze has won the hearts of more than 4.5 lakh Indian customers making it one of India’s most preferred family sedans. We are extremely excited to add another chapter to the success story of the model with the launch of New Amaze later this month. The new Amaze becomes even more premium, stylish and sophisticated. We are approaching the upcoming festive season with a fully refreshed line-up and hope to create fresh excitement in the market.”

As seen in the video, there will be a new set of headlamps. The overall design of the headlamp is identical to the current one but the main headlight unit now uses an LED unit instead of halogens. The reflectors are also now replaced with a  projector setup. We also get a hint of a new grille with chrome piping. There would be minor tweaks to the tail lamps as well. Other changes include revised front and rear bumpers. There is a new set of alloy wheels also with extensive use of chrome.

The cabin will also get updates in terms of a new upholstery design, updated dashboard and some feature additions. There can be a new touchscreen infotainment system that might support wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Alexa. Also, there are rumours that the Amaze will come with an electric sunroof. If this happens, the Amaze would be the only compact SUV to offer an electric sunroof.

Powertrain

There would be no changes to the powertrain of the Amaze. So, it would continue to come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 90 hp of max power and a peak torque output of 110 Nm. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission.

Then there is the diesel engine which is more powerful. It produces 100 hp of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. It will also get a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. The combination of a CVT automatic gearbox with a diesel engine is something that is very unique in the compact sedan segment.

Having said that, if you opt for the CVT automatic with the diesel engine, then the power output is decreased to 80 hp and peak torque is also reduced to 160 Nm. However, no one has complained of the combination feeling underpowered which is a good thing.

Pricing and competitors

Currently, the Amaze starts at Rs. 6.32 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 11.11 lakhs ex-showroom. The prices of the Amaze are expected to go up once the facelift is launched. The Amaze will continue to compete against Hyundai Aura, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire and Tata Tigor.

Yaris is a hatchback that Toyota sells in the international market whereas in India we get it as a mid-size sedan. The hatchback was recently spotted in Delhi while it was on a test. The hatchback was black in colour and was running on steel wheels. It is still not clear why Toyota is testing the Yaris hatchback in India. Here, is a video of the Yaris being tested on Indian roads.

The Yaris in the video can be seen with projector headlamps while the rear of the hatchback looks pretty unique. All the Toyota logos on the were hidden. Yaris can be considered a premium hatchback. So, it would go against the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Tata Altroz and Honda Jazz.

Interestingly, Toyota already has a premium hatchback in India known as Glanza. It is a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Toyota also exports the Glanza to Africa and it is sold as Starlet.

Yaris measures just 3,940 mm in length and is based on the GA-B platform. In the pictures, we can see that it is the four-door version of the Yaris. You can also get a GR Yaris which is a hot hatch version of the Yaris and is offered only as a three-door body style. Yaris is only offered with a set of three-cylinder petrol engine options. You can even get a hybrid powertrain with the Yaris.

Then there is GR Yaris which was made for WRC. The most powerful version of the GR Yaris produces 272 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 370 Nm. An engine is still a three-cylinder unit with a displacement of just 1.3-litres. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and it drives all the four wheels.

Upcoming vehicles

While the launch of the Yaris in India is uncertain. What we do know is that Toyota is working on their version of the Ciaz and Ertiga. They also filed a trademark for the name “Belta”. The new name is expected to be used for Toyota’s Ciaz. A picture of Ciaz’s grille with Toyota’s logo was spotted on the internet. Cosmetically there can be reworked front and rear bumpers. The interior might also get finished in a different upholstery. A graphic of Ertiga’s grille was leaked online but it was using the logo from Toyota. So, it looks like Toyota will also be selling a rebadged version of Ertiga.

Toyota already sells the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Vitara Brezza in the Indian market. The Vitara Brezza’s rebadged version is called Urban Cruiser and it gets a slightly different front bumper design. The grille is inspired by the Fortuner so that Urban Cruiser looks like it belongs to the Toyota family. The biggest change that you would spot is in the interior. The interior of the Urban Cruiser is finished in brown colour instead of black. This enhances the appeal of the cabin and the manufacturer is expected to do the same for the future rebadged models.

Toyota Fortuner driven over air sofa to test strength is sheer craziness

Internet has now become an integral part of majority of people around the world. Number of people using online services increased in especially after the demonitisation and the ongoing pandemic. YouTube has become a source of entertainment and information for many and many of them have also successfully converted YouTube vlogging into a profession. There are several videos with millions of view available on video. Here we have one such crazy video where a vlogger drives a Toyota Fortuner SUV over an air sofa to test its strength.

The video has been uploaded by MR. INDIAN HACKER on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger starts by saying that he had bought an air sofa and had done several experiments on it. The air sofa felt pretty good in terms of fit an finish and vlogger was happy with it. In some of the old videos with the air sofa, he had received several comments from the viewers where he was asked to drive a car over the sofa to find out whether the air sofa can handle the weight.

Vlogger accepted to do it and he along with his friend started filling the air sofa for this experiment. The car which they chose for this experiment was Toyota Fortuner. This experiment is done inside a closed area. Vlogger had two plans in his mind for this experiment. First one was to drive the Toyota Fortuner over the air sofa and if it survives then he would tie to the rear of the Fortuner and drag it.

Vlogger asks his friend to get inside the SUV as he and his other friends place the sofa outside. They unfold the sofa and to make it into a bed. In the first round, vlogger’s friend drives the SUV over the extended part. As this is an air sofa there was nothing inside the sofa to break. The front wheels go over the sofa and as the rear wheel was about cross, some sharp metal part from the underbody tore the fabric and half of the air sofa deflated instantly.

Vlogger confirmed that sofa did not deflate because of the weight of the car but, because it came in contact with a sharp edge under the body of the SUV. Once that was done, they place the sofa at a different place inside the plot and ask his friend to drive into the sofa. Vlogger’s friend drives the SUV into the sofa and it deflates instantly. The SUV successfully drove over the sofa and destroyed it.

if the sofa had not come in contact with the rough or sharp surface under the car, then there is a possibility that it might have survived. This video is just a fun video like many others that we find on the internet. There is no conclusion to the video and vlogger mentions that this does not prove anything. The sofa was sturdy and was good at its job but, the sharp edges under the car destroyed it.

Cops stop underage rider without license on electric scooter: Confident kid convinces cops [Video]

Underage riding is a widespread and common offence across India. That is why cops keep a close eye on such illegal riders. Andhra Pradesh police caught one such rider. Here is what happened.

The cops flagged down two kids on the scooter, who seem to be very young to be on the public roads. The video is in Telugu but here is a rough translation of the conversation between them. The traffic police officer stopped them because the kids were not wearing a mask and .were riding without a helmet They found out that the kids did not have a driving license or a registration certificate for the vehicle.

The kid then answered back that there is no need for a license or a registration number for an electric scooter. The child also claims that he has a green card to prove the same and the cops cannot issue a challan to them.

The cops ask the kid to park on the shoulder of the road. They verify the documents of the electric two-wheeler and then check the green card too. The cops did not find anything unusual and let the kids go from the spot.

Riding electric scooters in India

With the government promoting electric vehicles in the country, the sales of EV scooters is gaining momentum. To promote sales, the government has made a rule that no registration and helmet is required for electric two-wheelers powered by a 250W or lower motor.

There is also no age restriction on such low-powered scooters and that is why anyone without a license can ride them legally on the roads. However, if there is no requirement for a helmet by the law, it does not mean that one should not wear a helmet.

Helmets save life and we have seen proof of the same in numerous accidents in the past. Helmets keep the head safe from injuries, which otherwise can turn fatal. Even slow-speed accidents that happen at 20-30 km/h can injure someone badly.

This is why even aware cyclists wear helmets, even though it is not required by the law. The Indian public roads are extremely dangerous and unpredictable. One does not get to predict if something or the other will enter the road and that is reason enough to be properly ready for such situations.

Cannot ride ICE-powered two-wheelers

Minors cannot ride use petrol-powered vehicles without a valid driving license though. Yes, one can use the gearless scooters with a specific license that is available for under 16-year-old. However, it is illegal to ride a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine without a valid license. In the past, the cops have even arrested parents of children who are caught doing underage driving in India.

Stop checking vehicle documents says Mumbai police commissioner

Mumbai police commissioner, Hemant Nagrale has given strict orders to the traffic police to not stop vehicles just to check vehicle documents. He said this after noticing traffic jams because traffic police were checking vehicle documents. He asked the traffic cops that the priority should be managing the traffic instead of stopping them for small reasons. The order also said that the cops would be charged if they are found doing the same.

The order was issued by Hemant Nagrale on July 29th. The order said, “It has been observed that some traffic officials stop vehicles to check them and their documents. This leads to traffic snarls. Traffic cops are not supposed to check vehicles; they should give preference to streamlining traffic movement”.

The order also said, ‘traffic cops should take actions against violators apart from that, and no vehicles should be checked. Even if there is a joint nakabandi with RTO officials or local police, traffic cops should stick to actions specified under rules. The cops should not do any other checks. If these orders are not followed by the traffic cops, the in charge of the traffic division will be held responsible for it’.

We have seen this happen a lot of times when the traffic cop would stop the vehicle just to check the documents of the vehicle. The vehicle has to stand at the side of the road which causes a traffic jam. Many people have registered complaints against this as it causes further delays.

A senior police officer also commented on the situation. He said, “We have seen a few cops stop vehicles to check the documents of drivers or vehicles in the middle of the road. This checking leads to traffic congestion; we have received so many complaints regarding the same. The checks are totally unnecessary. The traffic cops should focus more on keeping traffic running,”

Traffic, a big concern in Mumbai

Congestions and traffic jams are a big concern in Mumbai. One of the biggest reasons for these traffic jams is the bad conditions of our roads. Recently, because of a big pothole, there was massive congestion in Mumbai. The traffic police did complain to BMC T-Ward about the situation but no one arrived because no one was available.

This was when two constables decided to take the action into their own hands. They found a nearby construction site and brought some debris from there. They filled the debris into a wheelbarrow and brought it to the pothole. They used that debris to fill the pothole so that at least the traffic can move at a higher speed.

The name of the constables was Sanjay Wagh and Sahebrao Chavan. The incident happened at Mulund Check Naka. People clicked pictures of both of them and thanked them. The pictures went viral on the internet.

“Construction work was going on nearby but no worker was around. The two cops went over the site,  loaded the debris onto a wheelbarrow and picked up a spade. Motorcycles were inconvenienced and our colleagues often face the burnt as we posted on the streets through the day.” said, a traffic cop.

From the leaked specs we can see that both the vehicles would be using a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 81 bhp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. While running on CNG, the power output will decrease to 70 bhp and torque output will decrease to 95 Nm.

This is the same engine that was previously offered with both vehicles. Now, this engine has been replaced with a more powerful and more efficient DualJet engine that also has a displacement of 1.2-litre. The new engine produces 89 bhp of max power while the torque output stays the same at 113 Nm.

No other changes will be made to both the vehicles cosmetically. Also, it is highly unlikely that Maruti Suzuki offers an AMT transmission with the CNG variants. So, you would only get a 5-speed manual gearbox. It will also miss out on auto start/stop functionality that helps in saving fuel and is currently offered with the Dzire and Swift.

Swift and Dzire are one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles that you can get in the Indian market. But still, the petrol prices have crossed Rs. 100 mark so people have started considering alternative fuel options. Factory fitted CNGs are a good option as the consumer still can keep its warranty and can benefit from the relatively low prices of CNG.

S-CNG

The Dzire and Swift will get the S-CNG variants just like other Maruti Suzuki vehicles. In S-CNG, the manufacturer has tuned the suspension, chassis and brakes to handle the additional weight of the CNG tank. To ensure the safety of the vehicle, they crash-test the vehicle with a CNG tank installed.

Other modifications made by Maruti Suzuki are Dual Interdependent ECUs which make the transition from petrol to CNG or vice versa smooth. There is a dedicated fuel gauge so you do not have to install an after-market one. All the pipes and the joints are made up of stainless steel. This is done to ensure that there is no leakage and they do not corrode. There is also a safety switch installed that cuts off the engine during the CNG refilling process. The S-CNG variants are available with Ertiga, WagonR, Eeco, Alto, S-Presso, WagonR and Celerio.

Other CNG vehicles

Hyundai also offers the Grand i10 Nios, Santro and Aura with a factory-fitted CNG option. The Swift CNG will be competing against the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG. The Dzire CNG will go against Hyundai Aura CNG. Tata Motors is also testing their CNG versions of the Tiago and Tigor. So, they would also be launching soon and would compete against Dzire and Swift. According to rumours, Honda is also preparing a CNG variant of the Amaze.

The exterior changes also make the RXT (O) look very similar to the RXZ. This will also attract a lot of buyers since the full-LED headlamps do look extremely good on the Kiger.

The Kiger RXT (O) comes powered by the 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 72 PS and peak torque of 96 Nm. There is a more powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine too that produces a maximum power of 100 PS and peak torque of 160 Nm. Additional offers and schemes

The Safari is the new flagship of Tata Motors. One of the biggest selling points of the Safari is its design. It looks butch and imposing when compared to other SUVs. The Safari is based on Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. There are many renders on the internet. Artists have imagined the Safari as a pick-up truck, convertible, off-road vehicle etc. Here is another render is done by bimbledesigns. The pictures are shared on Instagram. The artist has imagined the Safari as a track-only vehicle.

The artist has kept the overall profile of the SUV but has made a lot of changes. The artist calls it Safari ST 2021 TRACK ONLY CONCEPT. The artist says that he has imagined the SUV with a 6.2L Hemi V8 engine that is supercharged and is borrowed from Jeep Trackhawk.

The body is now finished in silver colour which looks like has a matte paint job. The artist has given massive black strips to the SUV too which looks very sporty. There is also a scoop on the bonnet that feeds air to the massive engine. The front grille is the same as the Safari but the Tata badge has been blacked out and it has been finished in black.

The bumper is also different with smoother lines. This ensures that the SUV is able to cut through the air smoothly. There is also a honeycomb mesh grille in the air dam. The artist has also deleted removed the headlamps as he was not liking the design.

At the side, there are massive wheel arches that are filled with track tyres from Toyo. The alloys are also different and are finished in black. There is also an ST badge on the front door and a big “SAFARI” decal on the side. The roof rails and the B and C-pillar are finished in black. Along with this, the ground clearance has been lowered so the stance of the SUV has been enhanced significantly.

At the rear, it gets the same LED tail lamps setup but there are additional lights placed in the lower reflector. The plastic piece that connects both the lamps is also finished in black along with a black Tata badge. The lower half of the bumper is also finished in dark chrome. The strips are continued to the rear also. It also gets a Safari badge that sits right in the middle with an ST badge below it.

Tata Safari

The stock Safari gets a 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine that produces 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The power is sent to only the front wheels. This is what disappointed some of the true Safari enthusiasts. The Safari is now a more premium Safari rather than being rugged and off-road focused.

The Safari starts at Rs. 14.99 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 21.81 lakhs ex-showroom. It competes against MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 700.

Electric vehicles exempted from registration charges in India: MoRTH

Electric vehicles are slowly gaining popularity in India. Central and State governments have have been taking initiatives lately to promote the use of electric vehicles. In order to boost or give electric vehicles a push, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has now announced that all electric vehicles that are sold in the country will be exempted from registration charges. Electric vehicle owners from now on does not have to pay fee for issue or renewal of registration certificates. This is actually a good move and is expected to attract more customers to buy electric vehicles in the country.

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways had announced draft notification in May this year to make changes or amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989  proposing to exempt battery operated vehicles (BOV) from registration charges. MoRTH has done this change to encourage usage of electric vehicles in the country. Earlier many of the state governments had exempted registration charges on EVs but, with this new policy all EV customers across the country will be benefitted.

Electric vehicles are actually going to be the future of mobility. One of the major problems that EV owners currently face in India is the charging infrastructure. Authorities and several manufacturers are also working on that. With fuel prices increasing the country on a daily basis, electric vehicles are making more sense as they have a very low running cost in comparison to a petrol or diesel car.

In the last couple of years, electric vehicle space has seen several changes in India. We now have manufacturers like Tata, MG and Hyundai offering electric SUVs in the market. Tata Nexon EV is currently the most affordable and best selling electric SUV in the country. Electric two wheelers have also been introduced in the market lately. We have electric two wheelers from brands like Bajaj, TVS, Ather, Revolt, Ola and many other manufacturers. Several manufacturers have also build low capacity or low speed two wheelers and electric three wheelers. These electric three wheelers are now popularly being used as last mile connectivity vehicles in several India cities.

Like in the case with regular IC engine cars and other vehicles, the pandemic has affected the sale of electric vehicles as well. Recently, center government had also revised the FAME-II scheme to increase the subsidy for electric two wheelers. Registration fee for issuing a new certificate or renewing the existing one currently  ranges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 on passenger vehicles and Rs 300 on two wheelers. This amount increases on imported vehicles. An imported passenger vehicle has a registration charge of Rs 5,000 and the same on imported two-wheeler is around Rs 2,500.

The amount may seem to be very small but, the main motive of authorities at this point is to give electric vehicles a much needed push. India’s largest manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is also working on an electric car and Tata Motors which is another leading car manufacturer in India recently announced in one of their annual meetings that they will be introducing more electric vehicle in the market by 2025.

The incident happened at Hirabag Chowk near Tilak Road, Pune. In the video, we can see a young woman who is probably under the influence of alcohol is lying on the main road and trying to stop the traffic. The video does not have any audio so we don’t know what exactly is going on.

The incident happened around 10:30 PM. The woman is trying to stop the moving vehicles which can be extremely dangerous. The police did receive the call about the nuisance that the woman was creating. However, they were not able to catch her. Also, no one knows her side of the story till now.

“As per our information, the woman came to Hirabaug from Khadak area. The video shows her lying down on the road for a few minutes. After police received the call, our teams went to the spot but she managed to flee.” said Senior Inspector Balasaheb Kopnar who is the in-charge of Swargate police station.

It is not yet known what exactly happened because the woman fled away from the scene. So, no medical test has been conducted. The police do not know her side of the story but they are saying that what she did was reckless and someone could have got hurt. Once she is traced, she will be interrogated and based on that the action will be taken.

“We are looking for the woman. While it seems from the video that the woman was under the influence of something, possibly alcohol, we can’t say that for sure since no medical test has been done. There is no doubt that her conduct was reckless. After we trace her, we will try to know her side of the story and accordingly action will be taken. She may be given a warning… she can also be charged for causing public nuisance… depending on the explanation given by her.” said, a senior police officer.

Another thing that the police officer revealed is that the crowd that was gathered was clapping. It is still not known whether they were motivating or supporting the women to stop the traffic. It could be possible that the crowd was trying to take the attention of the women. Nonetheless, the video of the women has gone viral on various social media platforms. The police officer has said that they will not take the action based just on the video. They will be examining the case before deciding anything.

“We have also been told that people were clapping when the woman was lying on the road. These days, nothing can escape the camera and things immediately go viral on social media platforms. But that does not mean we can take action just based on a video. We will examine the matter as per the rules and take action accordingly.” The senior police officer added.

Mahindra XUV700 7 seat SUV spied without camouflage in red colour: Launching soon

Mahindra will be unveiling the XUV 700 SUV soon. Earlier, the pictures of the SUV were leaked online and people did not like the design of the SUV. However, those pictures were skewed as now a video has surfaced online which shows the XUV 700 in its new red colour and it does look quite handsome.

The video has been uploaded on YouTube by MRD Cars. It is a short video but we can see the SUV clearly and it does look very different from the pictures that were leaked earlier. It is also carrying the new Mahindra logo. The XUV 700 will be the first vehicle that will be getting the new logo.

At the rear, we can see the arrow-shaped LED tail lamps and a silver faux skid plate. We can also see a rear wiper, a high mounted stop lamp and a shark-fin antenna. There are pronounced wheel arches and a rear bulge over the rear wheel arch just like the XUV 500 has. It also gets flush sitting door handles. It is not known whether they will be electrically assisted or the person would have to pull them out themselves.

All the pillars are coloured in black except the A-pillar and there is a chrome belt that runs below the window. There are multi-spoke alloy wheels that look like they have a diamond-cut design. Then we come to the front where we can see LED headlamps. There is a C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamp that surrounds the headlamp. We also get a look at the front grille which is huge and gets 6 vertical slats along with the new Mahindra logo.

Engine and gearbox

We do know that Mahindra will offer the XUV 700 with a petrol and a diesel engine. There will be a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines will be the most powerful in the segment.

The petrol engine will produce around 200 PS of max power while the diesel engine will produce 185 PS of max power. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Mahindra will also offer an all-wheel-drive option on the higher variants. This would make XUV 700 unique in its segment because no other competitor offers an all-wheel-drive powertrain as of now.

Features

The XUV 700 will be equipped with a lot of features. It will come with the largest in segment panoramic sunroof, dual screens just like we have seen on Mercedes-Benz models and a new user interface which Mahindra is calling AdrenoX. It will also get Sony powered speaker system, air purifier, electric adjustment for driver seat, push-button to start/stop, keyless entry and much more.

Launch, pricing and competitors

According to the rumours, the XUV 700 will be showcased on 15th August but the launch will happen on 2nd October. These are the same dates that were chosen to launch the Thar last year. The pricing of the XUV 700 is expected to start from Rs. 16 lakhs ex-showroom. It will be going against Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 spotted ahead of launch: Will Rival Honda CB350 RS

Royal Enfield is working on a slew of new motorcycles. They have already launched the Meteor 350 and the motorcycle is a success. The current waiting period for Meteor 350 is already around 6 months. The manufacturer is gearing up for the launch of the new generation of Classic 350. However, today we will be talking about another motorcycle that has been spied recently. It is being called the Hunter 350 and was spotted on the test.

While the media is calling it the Hunter, the production name of the Hunter will be something different. Royal Enfield has also filed a trademark for Sherpa and Shotgun alongside Hunter. So, the production name is currently not known.

What we can make out from the pictures is that the new motorcycle will be a roadster or a Scrambler. There are high chances that it will be a roadster because Royal Enfield is already working on another motorcycle which will be a scrambler.

The motorcycle looks quite compact and looks like it is mainly designed for city use. Up-front we get a halogen headlamp with orange turn indicators. At the rear, the tail light will be using a LED unit while the turn indicators will be halogen. The manufacturer is strictly following a circular theme. So, the headlight, turn indicators and tail light is circular in shape.

From the old spy shots, we know that Hunter would not get the tripper navigation. It would get an analogue speedometer along with a small digital screen that should work as an odometer and fuel gauge.  The seat is a single-piece unit and the pillion gets grab handles too.

The engine is finished in matte black colour and gets chrome strips on the air winglets. This is the same engine that we saw on the Meteor 350. It is a 349 cc, air-oil cooled unit that is capable of producing 20.2 hp of max power and a peak torque output of 27 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Unlike the previous Royal Enfields, this engine is smooth, refined but still retains the torquey nature.

Another thing we can make out from the images is an up-swept exhaust to complete that roadster look. There are fork gaiters installed on the front suspension. The motorcycle is using disc brakes in the front and at the rear. The front and rear mudguards are quite short and look nice. Overall, the motorcycle definitely looks modern as compared to other motorcycles of Royal Enfield that have a retro charm to them.

Scram 411

Another test mule of a Royal Enfiled motorcycle was also spotted on the test. It looked like a road-going version of the Himalayan. It will be called Scram 411 and the clay model of the motorcycle has also been leaked online. It will have smaller wheel sizes and the skeleton frame will be replaced with tank shrouds. It will also miss out on fairing and the windscreen also. The engine will stay unchanged. So, it will come with the same 411 cc engine of the Himalayan. We expect it to sit below the Himalayan.

High Court to actor Dhanush: Pay Rs 30 lakh within 48 hours as tax for Rolls Royce import

Weeks after the Madras High Court ordered Tamil actor Vijay to pay Rs 1 lakh as a fine for failing to pay the entry tax of his Rolls Royce Ghost, actor Dhanush will now have to pay Rs 30 lakh as an entry tax for his Rolls Royce. Hearing a 2015 plea by the actor challenging the entry tax on his Rolls Royce Ghost, the court has ordered him to pay full entry tax.

The court said that actors and celebrities should act as responsible citizens and should not ply their cars on the public roads without paying taxes fully. Justice S M Subramanium also came down heavily on the award-winning actor for not disclosing his profession in the plea. The court has given the actor time till Friday to explain the same.

The court directed the RTO officials to be present during the hearing so that they can compute the necessary taxes and give the details of the balance amount to the actor. The court did not give any relief to the actor and has ordered him to pay the taxes in full amount.

Dhanush has paid more than Rs 30 lakh

In 2015, when his Rolls Royce Ghost landed in India, he paid little more than Rs 30 lakh. However, that accounts only for about 50% of the entry tax demanded by the authorities as per the law. Dhanush had then filed a plea and based it on the past rulings against the entry tax back then. Even though Supreme Court had withheld the judgement later, Dhanush did not withdraw the case from the court.

The actor told the court that he is willing to pay the remaining amount and also sought the court’s permission to withdraw the case officially. Dhanush’s lawyer Vijayan Subramanium spoke with NDTV and said, “The earlier counsel had passed away. I don’t know why the profession wasn’t divulged. Now he (Dhanush) is willing to pay it (the tax) fully. We asked for notice so it can be done before Monday.”

The ruling comes only a few weeks after the same high court ordered actor Vijay to pay the fine and the remainder entry-tax amount for his Rolls Royce Ghost. Even Vijay had filed a plea seeking relief from paying the full tax amount.

The Indian government charges one of the highest taxes on the imported completely built units (CBU). The tax is to encourage the foreign manufacturers to set up plants in India that in turn creates more jobs in the country. For a multi-crore car like Rolls Royce, import taxes can run into lakhs and owners do whatever they can to get relief.

Many owners of such high-end, expensive vehicles choose to register their vehicles in states and union territories where the registration taxes are much lower. Since all the states do not charge road tax uniformly, such scams are quite common across the country.

The outside rearview mirrors come with an autofold function and have LED turn indicators mounted on them.

Other features include a cooled glovebox, digital instrument cluster, multi-information display, rear smart wiper with washer, all four power windows, multi-function steering wheel and much more.
