A video from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh became viral recently. The video shows a woman hitting a cab driver in the middle of the road. Reportedly, the woman also broke the phone of the driver. After the video became viral, #ArrestLucknowGirl is now trending on Twitter.

The incident happened at the Awadh Crossing in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The video that became viral shows the woman beating the cab driver in the middle of the road as the onlookers see the whole scenario unfolding. The video even shows a traffic constable but he does not do much to stop the woman as there was no female constable present at the spot.

The woman slapped the cab driver and also allegedly broke his phone, which belongs to his employer. After some time, the onlookers intervene to stop the woman from hitting the driver repeatedly. However, the woman then starts hitting the person who came in to help.

In retaliation, the third person hit her back. However, the woman kept holding his shirt and kept asking why did he hit her. After she slaps the man again, he then pushed her and slapped her back in self-defence. The whole incident became viral and spread like fire on social media.

So who is at fault?

CCTV footage from the same spot shows the drama unfolding. The video shows cars moving as the traffic signal for turning to the left is blinking to indicate that it will turn red soon. However, much before the light turns red, the woman starts walking on the zebra crossing.

The CCTV footage shows the woman walking casually on the zebra crossing even as the traffic is moving. The bus nearly misses hitting her and then she stops for a commercial vehicle. The cab driver, who may not have seen her crossing the road stopped his vehicle very near to the woman.

We are not sure if there was any contact between the car and the woman, but she does not look hurt in the video. After that, the woman started hitting the WagonR from all around. She forces the driver to come out and starts slapping him right in the middle of the road. This continues for several minutes.

Police books the cab driver

The Lucknow Police has reportedly booked the cab driver. The charges that they have pressed on the cab driver remains unknown. However, after the news of the police booking the driver became viral, the trend on Twitter started to support him with the #ArrestLucknowGirl.

Royal Enfield (RE) is one of the most popular motorcycle brand in India and around the world. Royal Enfield’s Bullet and Classic 350 and some of the most popular models in their line up. The brand is now working on several new motorcycles and some of them have been spotted several times during the testing phase. One of the upcoming launches from Royal Enfield is the 2021 version of Classic 350. Another motorcycle that is expected to be launched in the market later this year is a scrambler motorcycle. This has also been spotted and now we have more pictures of the upcoming Royal Enfield motorcycle with us.

The images have been shared by 69_thewanderlust on their Instagram profile. The image shows a clay model of the upcoming scrambler motorcycle. There are reports that Royal Enfield is likely to call it Scram 411. From the images it is quite clear that Scram 411 is based on Royal Enfield’s Himalayan. Although it is based on Himalayan, Royal Enfield will be making several changes to the motorcycle to give it a unique look.

In comparison to Himalayan, the upcoming Scram 411 will be offered with a smaller wheel at the front. It will be a steel rim with spokes. There are even chances that Royal Enfield might offer alloy wheels with this motorcycle. The rear tyre will however remain the same as Himalayan. The front mudguard will be slightly redesigned and the headlight is expected to be a bit smaller. The headlight will be positioned slightly lower than what we see on Himalayan.

The cowl around the headlight is also different from Himalayan. Fuel tank is borrowed from Himalayan and the Scram 411 also gets shrouds to add some muscle to the overall design. The side panels on the upcoming motorcycle is expected to remain plain with couple of air vents on it. Scram 411 is expected to be offered with single piece seat and a simple looking metal grab rail.

The rear mudguard will be shorter than Himalayan and the turn indicators will be mounted on them. Coming to the instrument cluster, Royal Enfield Scram 411 is expected to get an instrument cluster similar to what we have seen in Meteor. It will be a part analog and digital instrument cluster and like Meteor 350 and will also come with Tripper meter.

Royal Enfield Scram 411 will be using the same engine as Himalayan. It will be powered by a 411-cc, single cylinder, fuel injected engine that generates 24.3 Bhp and 32 Nm of peak torque. It will be paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Both front and rear will get disc brakes but, it is not known whether Royal Enfield will be offering switchable ABS with the Scram 411. The suspension set up is also likely to remain the same as Himalayan.

Royal Enfield is expected to launch Scram 411 in the market during the festive season this year. In terms of pricing, we expect that Royal Enfield might price it below Himalayan. The Scram 411 is likely to be at least Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 cheaper than that of regular Himalayan.

Well known Bollywood director and producer, Karan Johar has just bought an Audi A8L. The A8L is the flagship luxury saloon for Audi. He chose the Floret Silver colour. The A8L is sold in a single variant which is called 55 TFSI. It costs Rs. 1.57 Crores ex-showroom before any customization options. It is not known what all options did Karan Johar choose.

The A8L comes with a turbocharged V6 engine that has a capacity of 3.0-litres. The engine also gets direct injection and a mild-hybrid technology to boost fuel economy. The engine produces 340 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 500 Nm. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels via Quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. Despite having a gross weight of 2.75 tonnes the A8L can hit a top speed of 250 kmph and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds. Audi A8L competes against other luxury saloons like Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series.

Interior

You can get different types of upholsteries and wooden inserts for the cabin. There is seat ventilation, massaging function, electric adjustment with memory and heated function too. For the rear occupants, Audi offers two individual seats with a centre console. You can also get a rear fridge, rear tables and footrests for the ultimate comfort. Other features include ambient lighting and Matrix reading lights. You also get a four-zone climate control so each occupant can set their own temperature.

Exterior

You get heated outside rearview mirrors with auto-dimming function, Audi’s virtual cockpit which is considered the best digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You can also upgrade to a Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D sound. You also get soft-close doors so the occupants do not need to use force to close the doors.

The driver gets cruise control, heads-up display, night vision, park assist, 360-degree camera and much more. There is also an all-wheel steering system that makes the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels when the vehicle is travelling at high speeds. This increases the wheelbase of the vehicle and helps in stabilizing it. When the car is travelling at very slow speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction which reduces the wheelbase. This can help in various situations like making a U-turn or going through a tight parking lot.

Karan Johar also has Maybach S500

Karan Johar also owns a previous generation of Mercedes Maybach S500. It is powered by a bi-turbo, 4.7-litre V8 that produces 455 bhp of max power and 700 Nm of peak torque. The Maybach is finished in a subtle white colour. Back then the S500 had a price tag of around Rs. 1.85 crores, ex-showroom. However, you could opt plethora of options but that would also increase the price significantly. The upholstery is wrapped in premium Nappa leather and open-pore wood inserts.

Volkswagen Taigun spotted without camouflage

Volkswagen will soon be launching its new mid-size SUV in India. It will be called the Taigun and is expected to get launched in the third week of September. The new SUV will sit below the Volkswagen T-Roc which comes to India as a CBU import.  The Taigun was recently spotted while it was on a test. The images are quite clear as the SUV is not wearing any camouflage.

The Taigun that is spotted looks like a mid-variant as it does not get LED headlamps and diamond-cut alloy wheels. Also, it is missing the GT badge on the front grille. The GT variant is expected to be the top-end variant of the Taigun. The GT variant also comes with a chrome grille which we can see is missing in the spy shots. The spied SUV was finished in white single tone colour.

This Taigun’s variant was equipped with fog lamps, roof rails, LED Daytime Running Lamps, alloy wheels, shark-fin antenna, rear wiper and LED tail lamps with a light bar. What is missing is the projector set up for the headlamps that would come with LEDs.

Underpinnings borrowed from Skoda Kushaq

Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun will share a lot of things. The Taigun will also be underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN platform that has been derived from the global MQB-A0 platform that underpins a lot of vehicles that are sold in the global market. Because of the platform, the wheelbase of the Tiguan will be 2,651 mm. Volkswagen is focusing on high localization levels so that they can price the SUV competitively. They are aiming for a localization level of 95 percent.

Engine and gearbox

The engine and gearbox would also be derived from the Skoda Kushaq. So, there would be two petrol engine options and there would be no diesel engine on offer. There would be a 1.5-litre TSI and a 1.0-litre TSI. As standard, both the engines would be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The 1.0-litre TSI is the same engine that we have seen on the Volkswagen Polo GT and the Vento. However, the engine has been retuned to produce slightly more power and torque. Now, the engine produces 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque. When compared in Polo, the same engine produces 108 PS of max power and 175 Nm of peak torque. You could get a manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This will be the more affordable engine that most people would consider and buy.

Then there is the 1.5-litre TSI which is shared with the Volkswagen T-Roc. This engine would be for enthusiasts and would probably be offered with the GT variant. The engine produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The engine will get a manual gearbox as well as a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

More features

The Taigun is expected to offer slightly more features than the Skoda Kushaq. It would come with dual-tone upholstery, exterior paint accents in the cabin, a digital driver’s display, red brake calipers and a rear light bar.

CarToq Exclusive: Hyundai i20 N Line to launch next month

Hyundai launched the all-new i20 in the Indian market last year. The premium hatchback has received quite popularity in the Indian market. Now, Hyundai will launch a sportier version of the car – the i20 N Line. It will become the first N Line product from the Hyundai stable in the Indian market.

A few months ago, the upcoming Hyundai was caught testing on the Indian roads too. The vehicle is already on sale in the international markets and it gets a few bits that make it look more aggressive too. The front and the rear bumper of the standard i20 is replaced with a new, much sportier bumper. Now our sources have confirmed that Hyundai will launch the new i20 N Line in the Indian market next month.

The front grille will also get overhauled and the new sportier version will offer an all-black grille with a “chequered flag” pattern. There is also the N Line moniker at the front, which will give it a different identity compared to the standard version of the i20.

The rear of the i20 N Line looks very different compared to the standard model. The N Line comes with a diffuser in the bumper, new triangular foglamps similar to the i30 hatchback and dual-chrome exhaust tips. There are four colour options available with the i20 N Line in the international markets, we are not sure about the colours that will be available in India. Hyundai will also offer a different set of alloy wheels with the N Line variant.

Same power

Interestingly, the Hyundai i20 N Line draws power from the same 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that is also available with the standard version of the car. It generates a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 172 Nm.

However, it sounds much sportier and there are changes to the suspension, which will make it much more fun to drive. We are assuming that the suspension will become much stiffer than the standard variant of the vehicle. Hyundai only offers a 7-speed DCT or an IMT with the turbo-petrol engine option. We are not sure which transmission will be available with the India-spec i20 N Line yet.

In the international markets, the i20 N Line takes on the likes of the Ford Figo RS and even the Polo GTI. There is a more powerful 204 PS variant of the i20 N Line too. However, that is unlikely to make it here. In the Indian market, the new i20 N Line will take on the likes of Tata Altroz i-Turbo and the Volkswagen Polo GT.

Mahindra XUV 700 imagined in different colour options

$

Recently, some pictures of the production version of the upcoming Mahindra XUV 700 were leaked online. There were mixed reactions to how the SUV looked. The XUV 700 will be the new flagship SUV for the homegrown manufacturer. Someone has rendered the XUV 700’s spy pictures in different colours. So, now we have three new shades for the XUV 700. There is silver, black and blue whereas the original picture that was leaked had an XUV 700 finished in copper brown colour. We also know that there will be a maroon colour once the SUV was launched as there was a spy shot in the same colour.

The launch of the SUV is expected to happen on 2nd October just like the homegrown manufacturer did with the new generation Thar. However, still, Mahindra has not yet announced anything officially. The main competitors of the Mahindra XUV 700 will be the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Hyundai Alcazar. But because of the pricing, it will also go against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Unique in its segment

One advantage that the XUV 700 has over its rivals is that it is an all-new product based on an all-new platform. When you notice the Safari, Alcazar and the Hector Plus are based on their 5-seater versions. So, if you want your vehicle to look unique and stand out from the crowd, the XUV 700 is the right pick for you.

Engine and gearbox

The XUV 700 would be the most powerful SUV in its segment. Mahindra would offer the XUV 700 with both a petrol and a diesel engine unlike some of its rivals. You would be able to get both the engines with 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The XUV 700 will be the only SUV in the segment that will offer an all-wheel drive. This information has been confirmed on Mahindra’s website. However, the all-wheel-drive system would be offered only on the higher variants, the lower variants would have a front-wheel-drive layout.

The 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine would be producing 200 PS while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine would produce 185 PS. The torque output of both engines is not yet known. What we do know is that both the engines should be very refined and smooth. The diesel engine would also come with drive modes, namely “Zip”, “Zap” and “Zoom”.

Lots of features

Mahindra would be offering a lot of features with the XUV 700. They have already started teasing the upcoming features of the SUV. It would come with C-shape LED Daytime Running Lamps and LED headlamps. At the rear, there would also be LED tail lamps that look like arrows. Mahindra has also teased auto-booster functionality for the headlamps.

The infotainment system would run a new AdrenoX suite. So, there would be dual horizontal screens placed seamlessly. The centre one would be the touchscreen infotainment system while the other one would be the digital driver’s display. The infotainment system would have Alexa connectivity and will be connected to a sound system sourced from Sony.

Other features include dual-zone climate control with an air purifier, embedded SIM connectivity, panoramic sunroof, flush sitting door handles,  personalized safety alerts and driver drowsiness detection.

Couple on a Royal Enfield engage in ‘inappropriate behaviour’: Locals moral police them [Video]

India is one of the largest countries in the world and every other day, we get to spot something bizarre on the public roads. A video from Bihar shows a couple riding the bike in the weirdest way possible. The other motorists on the road record the scenario and his riding style too.

The video shows a couple riding on a motorcycle. The lady is sitting on the fuel tank of the bike facing the guy, who is riding the motorcycle. They keep on riding on the empty roads without caring much about the surroundings. That is when locals riding another bike spot them and start recording.

After a few seconds, the locals speed up and asks the couple to stop. That is when the locals start questioning the couple on why they are riding like that and where do they stay. After a few moments, the locals even say that they will call the cops. However, the couple says that they will not visit that place again and leave from there.

Happened in Goa too

In 2015, a similar incident happened in Goa, which became viral on the Internet. The couple from Madhya Pradesh were riding their motorcycle in a similar fashion to the couple above. Another motorist clicked pictures of them, which became viral. The Goa Police then traced the couple and handed them a challan of Rs 1,000 for riding in a dangerous way on the public roads.

With social media becoming a powerful tool, there are not many people who can escape challans after doing such stunts on the public roads. The way in which the couple was riding is considered as a stunt and dangerous riding on the public roads.

Doing any kind of stunts on public roads is illegal and the violators can even go to jail along with paying massive fines. Doing stunts on public roads can land you in a spot due to various reasons. If anyone wants to practice stunting or want to record videos, it should be done on private property such as race tracks and even farmhouses. Also, one should take note that such stunts are extremely dangerous.

The video of the youths shows them sitting on the bonnet of the vehicle while it is moving through the traffic. Both the youngsters are clicking pictures and also talk to each other while the vehicle keeps on moving. None of them is wearing any kind of safety equipment like a helmet or protective gear like a knee pad or elbow protectors. Any mishap can go wrong during such stunts. Imagine just slipping down from the bonnet while the vehicle keeps on moving. It can end in a disaster.

Honda releases teaser of Hornet 2.0 based adventure motorcycle: Will rival Hero XPulse

$
0
0

Honda has released a teaser of an upcoming affordable adventure motorcycle. The launch of the motorcycle will happen on 19th August. The motorcycle could be named “NX200” as the Japanese manufacturer registered the same name in India. The NX branding is used for Honda’s single cylinder dual sport motorcycles.

We can see in the video, that the NX200 looks like an adventure tourer. It gets knuckle guards on which the turn indicators are mounted. There is also a tall and opaque windscreen that will provide some protection to the rider from windblast. We can also see an LED headlamp that Honda is using. It resembles a lot to the headlamp unit of the Hornet 2.0. The headlamp is mounted in the fairing whereas the Hornet 2.0 is designed as a naked motorcycle. Also, the paint scheme that is used by Honda is red and white which is visible only for a moment.

The NX200 will not be an off-roader like the Hero XPulse. It will be a soft roader. So, expect it to have alloy wheels instead of spoked wheels. It will have long travel suspension but it will not be adjustable. Because of the long travel suspension, the ground clearance should increase quite a bit. The front wheel could measure 19-inches and if this is true then the rear should measure 17-inches. It is important to note that all of this is just a speculation as Honda has not confirmed anything yet.

The engine would be derived from the Hornet 2.0. So, it will be an air-cooled single-cylinder engine that comes with fuel-injection. In Hornet, this engine produces 17.27 hp of max power and 16.1 Nm of peak torque. However, the engine might get retuned slightly to suit the adventure tourer. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox which is expected to be carried over to the NX200. Lack of a 6th gear would make the engine feel stressed while doing highway speeds on the NX200.

The motorcycle would get single-channel Anti-lock braking system. Although, we would have appreciated a dual-channel ABS or atleast the manufacturer should offer it as an option. Also, if it is an adventure tourer then there should be a button to switch off the ABS like the Himalayan and other off-road motorcycles do.

It seems like the motorcycle would come with up-side down forks just like the Hornet 2.0 but it could have more travel or atleast we know that they will be taller than the Hornet’s unit. The tyres are also expected to be an off-road spec and there would also be a bash plate to protect the engine.

Not much information is known about the new mild-off-roader. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 higher than the current Hornet 2.0. The Hornet currently starts at Rs. 1.31 lakhs ex-showroom. So, the NX200 will be more expensive than the Hero XPulse but will sit lower than the KTM 250 Adventure.

All-new Hyundai Creta hits the cop car circuit in India with the Ladakh Police

Ladakh Police has inducted the first batch of all-new Hyundai Creta mid-size SUVs. The first pictures of the vehicles have become viral on the Internet. The induction happened last week when two Hyundai Creta SUVs were delivered to the police department.

The new Hyundai Creta will be used by the tourist department of the Ladakh Police. First pictures of the vehicle show the white coloured Creta SUVs wrapped in the police colours. There is Ladakh Police written on the side while the tourist wing is written above that. We are not sure if the vehicle also gets sirens but the strobes are visible on the top of the roof.

While only two Hyundai Cretas were spotted in Ladakh with the police department, more such vehicles are expected to join in the future. We are also not sure about the engine option that the Ladakh Police Department has chosen to use. The alloys and the exterior do indicate that these are the top-spec SX trim of the Creta.

Tourist Police

The tourist police put up a friendly face to help the tourists who come and visit the place. There are tourist police departments in almost all the states and union territories in India. Various tourist police handle different jobs. For example, a tourist can take help from tourist police if a local autorickshaw or taxi is asking for a higher than the listed price.

These vehicles will stick only inside the city limits and will not ever do jobs like chasing other vehicles and set-up a barricade. In Dubai, the tourist police own one of the most expensive vehicles in the world.

The Dubai Tourist police own the most expensive vehicles in the world including the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini, Bentley and what not. In fact, buying expensive cars became a PR exercise for the Dubai Tourist Police and the cars were even taken off the roads to display at the malls and other areas. Most tourist wings of the police in India do not have any special vehicles. They mostly use the same vehicles as their colleagues in other departments.

2021 Hyundai Creta

The second-generation Creta, which was launched last year after the delay due to the pandemic has become a super successful product for the Korean manufacturer. Hyundai has announced that in one year, they have sold over 1.21 lakh units of the all-new Creta, which is a big number for a car from this segment.

Also, since the Ladakh Police chose the top-end SX trim, interestingly, these are the most in-demand variants. Hyundai India claims that there is a massive demand for the higher-end variants of the car. 51% of customers have chosen the top-end SX and SX(O) variants of the Creta.

The top-end variants are loaded with features like a massive panoramic sunroof, cooled front seats, electronic parking brake and more. The Creta is loaded when it comes to features and that is one of the top reasons for its popularity in the Indian market.

The scooter was also spotted while on test. It had a large digital screen that showed battery level at 87 percent with riding range showing 122 km. This is a very impressive figure and would mean that Ola’s scooter would deliver the highest riding range. This will definitely help Ola in gathering quite a bit of attention. Ola is also claiming class leading numbers in terms of boot space, technology and acceleration.

The screen should also come with Bluetooth connectivity. So, if you connect your smartphone to the screen then you should get navigation details on the screen itself. It would show up all the vital information to the rider. So, he would get the speed, odometer, some kind of trip meter, battery level and driving range.

The boot of the scooter would be able to take two helmets at once. Although, we do not know the size of the helmet that Ola is advertising. There should also be some kind of keyless entry. So, the scooter would be unlocked when it detects the rider’s smartphone.

If you use Ola’s hypercharger then in just 18 minutes you would be able to get a range of 75 km. The riding range should be around 140 km to 150 km. The battery would take 6 to 8 hours to charge from the household outlet. Ola is working o installing more than 1 lakh hyperchargers in 400 cities.

The top speed of the scooter is expected to 80 kmph and it will hit 45 kmph in just 3.9 seconds. This should make the scooter feel peppy while riding in the city and you should be able to overtake slow moving traffic quite easily. It will also come with regenerative braking. Braking duties will be done by a disc in the front and a drum brake at the rear.

Tata Motors teased the upcoming Tiago NRG and the launch of the new vehicle is supposed to be tomorrow. The dealerships have already started getting the delivery of the NRG variants. The new NRG version is based on the facelifted Tiago that was launched last year. The new variant has now been spotted at a dealership yard in red colour.

From the images, we can see that the NRG variant looks rugged because of the plastic cladding that runs throughout the vehicle. Up-front there is a slightly different bumper with black cladding and a faux silver skid plate. At the side, there is thick plastic cladding that also runs over the wheel arches. At the rear, also you get a different bumper with a silver faux skid plate and a black plastic piece that sits between the tail lamps.

Tata has also added roof rails to the NRG variant. They have cleverly used the dual-tone paint job. The hatchback is finished in red. The cladding, door handles, outside rearview mirrors, roof rails and the roof is finished in contrasting black. Overall, the paint scheme looks very nice.

Features

The NRG variant will be based on the XZ variant of the Tiago but Tata has added some features. For instance, it comes with a rear parking camera, push-button to start/stop the engine and a button on the tailgate to open it. You would also be able to electrically release the tailgate from a button mounted below the infotainment system.

Up-front we do get a tri-arrow grille. Earlier, it was thought that the NRG variant will come with alloy wheels but according to new information, Tata is using stylized wheels that just look like alloy wheels.

It would also come with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system sourced from Harman. It supports Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay. It would be connected to four speakers and four tweeters sourced from Harman. There is also a digital instrument cluster and a multi-function steering wheel. The driver also gets a multi-information display. Other features include a cooled glovebox, keyless entry, tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, all power windows and ConnectNext application support.

No changes to the engine

The NRG variant would also come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine. It produces 85 bhp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Tata discontinued the diesel engine when the BS6 emission norms were implemented.

Upcoming CNG variant

Tata Motors is also working on a CNG variant of the Tiago. A Tiago with an emission kit was spotted while it was on a test. Also, the test mules of the hatchback have been spotted while it was waiting at a CNG station for a refill. The CNG variants would also use the same engine as the regular Tiago but while running on CNG the power output would decrease. Tata has not yet officially announced anything regarding the CNG variant.

Kia Carnival with Rs 3.5 lakh discount now costs less than Toyota Innova Crysta

Kia started offering discounts on its most expensive car in the Indian market – the Carnival last month. This month, the luxurious MPV continues to be available at a cash discount. However, only selected dealerships will offer the discount depending on the stock availability of the car.

Kerala-based Incheon Kia is offering a discount of Rs 3.5 lakh on the Carnival. The dealership’s promotional post says that the base variant of the car is now available at Rs 21.6 lakh instead of the official price of Rs 25.11 lakh. That is a massive drop in the entry-level price. This will allow the customers planning to buy the top-end variant of the Toyota Innova Crysta to explore their options further.

The entry-level price of the Toyota Innova Crysta diesel is Rs 21.8 lakh, which makes the Kia Carnival cheaper. The Kia Carnival only offer a single-engine option of a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 200 PS and a peak torque of 440 Nm. Only an automatic transmission is available with the Carnival.

Even though there are no direct rivals of Carnival in the Indian market, Kia struggles with the sales numbers. In May 2021, Kia started the offer of the ‘Satisfaction Guarantee Scheme’ for the buyers.  Under the new offer, customers buying the Carnival can return the car within 30 days of its purchase.

Kia Carnival in India

Kia launched the Carnival in the Indian market last year at the 2020 Auto Expo. It has remained a popular choice for many. The Carnival sits between the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Alphard in the market and it does not compete with any other vehicle in the segment. Until now, Kia has sold more than 6,200 units of the Carnival, signalling a decent interest in the vehicle.

Kia has launched the next-generation Carnival in the international markets. Even though Kia India is yet to officially announce the arrival of the all-new Carnival in the Indian market, several reports claim that the new Carnival should arrive in the Indian market later this year.

Kia is also working on an all-new MPV. The new MPV will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo in the Indian market. Internally codenamed as KY, the all-new MPV is likely to enter the Indian market by the end of this year or sometime early next year. Kia will continue to focus on the SUV and MPV segment in India due to the high demand for these segments.

Mahindra Scorpio in army camouflage paint stopped by police: Army paint not allowed

A Mahindra Scorpio with the army fatigue colour was stopped in Indore during a regular checking on Wednesday. The police spotted the vehicle at the Tejaji Nagar police station. The vehicle belonged to a couple who operates an adventure group.

Tejaji Nagar police station in-charge RD Kanwa said that they had no prior information on the vehicle. The personnel at the checkpoint spotted the vehicle and stopped the couple for questioning. The cops saw that a youngster was driving the vehicle and no one was wearing an army uniform. His companion was on the co-driver seat.

The police thoroughly checked the ID cards of the couple and then verified the documents of the vehicle too. The youngsters were residents of Bhopal City and came to Indore with an adventure group. They could not show any permission to have the army fatigue print on the vehicle.

Army colour not allowed on civilian vehicles

In India, the olive-green colour and the army fatigue patterns are exclusively reserved for the use of armed forces. Civilian vehicles do not have permission to use these colours. The MV Act does not allow the use of these colours on civilian vehicles for security reasons.

Across India, army colours are banned to use in civilian vehicles. However, most people do not know about this rule and they anyway get a wrap or get the vehicle painted in these colours. We are not sure if the Mahindra Scorpio stopped in Indore had a wrap or it was permanent paint.

While the wraps are temporary, they fall in a grey area of the rule. Because they are not permanent, most police officers do not issue a challan to them. However, there is no mention of this rule in the lawbooks so police can issue a challan too. Since it is illegal to change the colour of the vehicle in India without getting an RTO approval, one cannot permanently paint the vehicle with a different colour other than the stock.

The couple who was travelling the Scorpio did not know about this rule and they apologised to the policemen present at the spot. They also promised to remove the army fatigue pattern from the vehicle. The cops did not issue a challan. Instead, they gave a warning to the youngsters and let them go from the spot as per FreePressJournal.

Army colours are sold internationally

Manufacturers like Royal Enfield offer such Battle Green colour and paint them in the Indian factory. However, since these products cannot sell in the Indian market, Royal Enfield exports them to the international markets including Europe.

In India, manufacturers like Mahindra, Jawa and Jeep do offer a shade of olive-green colour on their stock vehicles. However, these colours are pre-approved by the government authorities to sell in the market, which is why they can be sold. Also, these shades are a bit different from the olive-green colour used by the armed forces.

Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari wants automakers to offer 6 airbags in all cars & SUVs

Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways urged the automobile manufacturers to upgrade the safety in all the vehicles. After meeting with the representatives of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Gadkari posted on Twitter urging the automobile manufacturers to provide a minimum of six airbags.

Gadkari appealed in the tweet, “In the interest of passenger safety, I have appealed all private vehicle manufacturers to compulsorily provide a minimum of 6 airbags across all variants and segments of the vehicle.”

The government of India has already made at least one airbag mandatory in cars and the rule is already in effect. From December 31st, 2021, dual front airbags in all cars and SUVs sold in India will become mandatory. While Gadkari has made the statement and has urged the automobile manufacturers, one should note that there is no plan to make six airbags mandatory in all cars and SUVs in the near future.

Even the mandatory driver airbag rule came into effect from 1st July 2019 for new vehicles. For the existing vehicles, the deadline is August 31st. So it did take a good amount of time for the manufacturers to comply with the new regulations.

With almost all the cars now available with at least driver-side airbags, the government will introduce the mandatory dual front airbag rule later this year. While airbags do make cars safer, a vehicle should be structurally strong to survive an accident and for the airbags to be of any use.

Can more airbags become a reality?

While there are similar rules in developed countries that ensure that occupant safety is primary over the cost of the vehicle. However, India is still a developing country where the majority of car buyers are on a tight budget. Airbags are quite costly and putting more of them will increase the price of the vehicle substantially.

If the vehicle is not originally designed to offer dual airbags or side airbags, a lot of restructuring has to be done to the vehicle to ensure that there is space for the airbag module and when it deploys, it does that properly.

While the top-end variants of the mid to high-end models have already started offering the six airbags, it is not so simple for the entry-level models that are not originally designed to offer so many airbags.

There are no incentives for the customers in India to buy a safer car. In many developed nations, the insurance amount is liked with the extra safety equipment that a vehicle provides. So all the vehicles are treated equally regardless of the safety features and equipment list.

Is there a better way?

Making vehicles structurally stronger can be one of the ways to ensure safety without putting much of an impact on the cost of the vehicle. Making the structure of the vehicle stronger so that it absorbs the impact from an accident and keeps the occupants safe is currently the need of the hour. There are already a few cars that are made in a different way for the international markets while the Indian-spec models are much lower in safety even though they meet the government regulations.

The new facelifted version of the Tiago NRG gets a price tag of Rs 6.57 lakh for manual and Rs 7.09 lakh, ex-showroom for the AMT automatic. The Tiago NRG is available only with a single variant option. Tata has already dispatched the units of the new model to the dealerships so the deliveries are expected to start soon.

The Tiago NRG is a more rugged version of the standard Tiago, which has become a popular model in the Tata Motors stable. The new model gets a sharper-looking grille and headlamps design, which of course look similar to the standard Tiago hatchback. The main difference on the outside that you get to notice is the faux body cladding all around to add a rugged look to the body. Also, the roof rails are standard with the car and it increases the height further.

There are also redesigned front and rear bumpers that also get faux skid plates. This design theme further adds a sense of masculinity to the Tiago NRG. Tata offers the car in four colour options – Forest Green, Snow White, Cloudy Gret and Fire Red.

Tata offers the Tiago NRG in only a single variant option based on the higher-trims with a few feature additions. Which means it comes packed with features. To start with, the new model gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Tata also offers an automatic climate control system, speakers from Harman, steering mounted audio and telephonic controls, power windows, remote central locking, powered ORVMs, adjustable driver seat and others.

The safety net includes dual airbags, ABS, day-night rearview mirror, rear parking sensors among others. Since the standard Tiago gets the 4-star safety rating, the Tiago NRG also carries forward the same GNCAP safety ratings.

It gets 181mm ground clearance and also gets dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels. Tata Motors claim the suspension system has been re-tuned too. The cabin is all-black to add a sporty touch to the cabin.

Petrol only

Just like the standard Tata Tiago, the NRG variant will be available only with a single engine option. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is naturally aspirated and generates a maximum power of 86 PS and peak torque of 113 Nm. Tata will offer both automatic and manual transmission options with the Tiago NRG.

While Tata is also working on the CNG-powered version of the Tiago, they are yet to announce any development on it at the moment. Tata is likely to launch the CNG version of the vehicle in the coming months in the Indian market.

The problem of billionaires who use bulletproof vehicles is that they just cannot upgrade every other year. Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest person and one of the wealthiest businessmen in Asia only travel in bulletproof vehicles. Most businessmen around the world own only one armoured vehicle because they can be quite expensive. Ambani owns four armoured vehicles and three of them are from Mercedes-Benz. This video shows three Mercedes-Benz S-Guard in a convoy, which probably is the most expensive convoy of a civilian in India with a cost of nearly Rs 35 crore.

The video by CS12 Vlogs shows various convoys of the Ambani family. However, the one convoy that caught our eyes is the three Mercedes-Benz S-Guard travelling together in a convoy. One should note that the Ambani family never travels together in the same car for security reasons. It is quite possible that all three cars had occupants. But we cannot be sure about their identity.

W221 Mercedes-Benz S-Guard

Mukesh_Ambani

This is one of the oldest armoured vehicles in Ambani’s convoy. This vehicle was Ambani’s regular ride a few years ago but then it got replaced with the facelifted model. This is the first time since this W221 S-Guard came out of the Antilla. While many presumed that the Ambani has sold this armoured vehicle, the latest spotting show that he still owns the car and it works just fine on the roads too.

W221 Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard LWB

Ambani then got an upgrade of the S-Guard and got the long-wheelbase one with extra legroom in the rear seats. It offers a VR9 level of protection, which is equal to the CEN B6/B7 standard. In simpler language, the vehicle can stand against a lot of firepowers including rifles aimed at the vehicle from various angles. It also gets underbody protection against several types of grenades and even land mines.

The power comes from a 6.0-litre V12, bi-turbocharged petrol engine that develops enormous power of 523 Bhp and peak torque of 850 Nm. There is a seven-speed automatic transmission. Due to the added armour, which adds tons of weight, the suspension of the vehicle is re-tuned to handle better with the extra weight.

The heavy vehicle runs on the Michelin PAX run-flat tires that can do up to 80 km/h even with zero air pressure inside. Most of the features are not publicised due to the safety of the customers but the vehicle also gets a fire suppressant system that can save the vehicle from fires.

W222 Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard

This is the latest-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Guard that Ambani received earlier this year. The cost of this car is likely to be more than Rs 10 crore depending on the customisation level. The W222 Mercedes S600 Guard has been designed to look as regular as possible. That’s to ensure that the vehicle’s appearance does not give out the fact that it is a bulletproof vehicle.

This is the armoured version of the Mercedes-Maybach S600 sedan and comes with VR10 level protection, which makes it the first civilian vehicle in the world to get this certification. It translates into withstanding steel core bullets fired directly at the car and even 15 kg of TNT blast from a distance of 2 metres! It comes with a long list of features including the reinforced base structure and a special underbody armour with polycarbonate-coated windows. The vehicle is made up of special steel and the body shell is made up of reinforced steel.

It comes powered by a massive 6.0-litre V12, bi-turbocharged petrol engine that develops a massive 523 Bhp and 850 Nm of torque. It gets a seven-speed automatic transmission. Even the suspension of the car has been re-tuned to handle the extra weight while providing maximum comfort.
