Xuv 4

Here is a Mahindra XUV300 W4 variant, which gets an asking price of only Rs 7 lakh. This is a base variant and according to the odometer, it has done only 230 km on the odometer. It is literally a brand-new car out of the showroom. The exact reason for selling is not known though. The Mahindra XUV300 W4 is the entry-level version of the car. However, it gets a lot of standard features. From the pictures, it looks like a brand-new vehicle with ribbons still tied to it. However, the reason for selling the vehicle is not listed. It is not known if the vehicle has been registered yet. If somehow, the vehicle is unregistered, the new owner of the vehicle will become the first owner. In the pictures, the registration number is not present. The asking price of Rs 7 lakhs for a vehicle which is 230 km old is very practical. A new Mahindra XUV300 W4 costs Rs 9.17 lakhs, on-road! Contact the seller here.

Xuv 3

The XUV300 petrol is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power of 108 Bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual transmission.

Royal Enfield is undoubtedly the leader when it comes to the retro looking, but modern motorcycles. Royal Enfield is the segment leader for motorcycles with 350-cc or above capacity engines. Royal Enfield had also introduced India’s most affordable twin cylinder motorcycles; Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 and just like other Royal Enfields they have also created a niche for themselves and are doing well in terms of sales.

Royal Enfield 350x Tvc Featured

Royal Enfield recently re-introduced their bullet range of motorcycles with a different paint job n the tank or what Royal Enfield calls it the Royal Enfield Bullet 350X or RE Bullet 350X ES. The manufacturer has priced the new 350X bullet at Rs 1.31 lakhs, ex-showroom. Royal Enfield has now released few commercial videos of the same bullet 350X range on their channel.

The first Video is in context to the recent Kerala floods, The Malayalam news channel audio playing in the background confirms the same. the rider then can be seen picking up the keys and riding away with his black colored Bullet and then suddenly the road ahead of him is blocked as a tree falls on the road. he then takes an alternate route which is filled with potholes but cruises through them easily and reaches the camp. This is where the TVC reveals the identity of the rider as doctor who is helping the people suffering because of the rains and floods.

Second video starts on a dining table of a small family and then a notification comes up on the phone. There is an awkward silence and the man suits up in his army uniform and prepares to leave. it is then his eyes fall on the red color Bullet X standing outside his house. his wife gives him the keys and he happily rides away on his mission.

The third video is a bit different. A girl can be seen going through some papers in a library and then when she walks out, a couple of boys sitting on a bike start observing her as she walks towards them. she stops right in front of them and wears the helmet which says Royal Enfield. The boys are surprised and look at the bike and her couple of times and she asks them to leave the bike and she rides the Royal Enfield back to her home.

The Bullet 350X simply gets a few cosmetic changes over the regular Bullet. The main differences are the blacked-out parts that replace the shiny chrome parts of the Bullet. Even the engine block is now black alongside the parts like crankcase. The wheels are identical to the standard Bullet 350 and there are alloy wheels available with the bike. Mechanically, the bike remains untouched. It gets powered by the same engine that powers all the other Royal Enfield 350s in the Indian market. Just like other manufacturers, Royal Enfield is also working on BS6 compliant engines and BS6 variants have been spotted testing on roads a couple of times.

Escape BIG fine by paying just Rs. 100 if caught without documents: Here’s how

$
0
0

While you will have to pay the fine amount entirely if you do not have the documents in place, you can escape the hefty fines if you have the documents but have forgotten them at your home. Motorists who get caught without a registration certificate, driving license, insurance policy and other important documents like PUC can now escape it by paying Rs 100. News 18 reports that the motorists without documents can get a court challan issued at the spot and pay Rs 100. The rule, which is not known by many allows motorists without documents to get the necessary documents from home or any other place and show it in the court.

Rs. 100 Fine Featured
Image used to illustrate

However, this has to be done within 15 days of the issuance of the original fine. Also, one cannot go to the home and come back with the documents to show the cops. They will have to show the mandatory documents in the court. So if you have all the papers in place, you will not have to pay the hefty fines and show the documents to the court instead. The original challan will also be forfeited once the proper documents are produced in the court.

This is only applicable to the motorists who have forgotten their vehicle’s documents at home. All other motorists flouting norms like not wearing a seatbelt, not wearing a helmet, crossing the stop line, jumping the signal, parking at the wrong spot, speeding, dangerous driving and all other such kinds of illegal activities will have to pay the fine amount in full. It should be noted that the policemen present on the duty now do not collect the fines. Instead, the fines have to submit at a local authority or a local court.

The new MV Act (Amendment), which was enforced in almost all states and Union Territories of India has created an uproar among the citizen. Several extremely high fine amounts have been issued by the cops of different states already. A few truck owners have been issued a fine close to Rs 1 lakh and recently the highest fine was issued to an overloaded truck for Rs 1.41 lakh.

While many commuters complain that the new fines are much much expensive than the value of their vehicle, many others agree with the new MV Act and say that it will work towards the betterment of the society. While cops from various states have now started enforcing the fine strictly, the road users have also started making videos of the politicians and policemen flouting the norms.

Gujarat has reduced the fine for triple riding on a motorcycle by 90% while the mandatory helmet for the pillion rider rule has also been removed. Many other states like Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab and Rajasthan have not implemented the new MV Act yet. All the state governments who have not introduced the new fines have said that the new rules are extremely harsh and an increase in the fine amount will be used to harass the public.

BS6 Honda Activa 125 launched in India

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has just launched its first BS6 emission norms compliant two wheeler in the form of the Activa 125 automatic scooter. The Honda Activa 125 BS6 is priced at Rs. 67,490 and bookings start from today. The scooter will be able to function seamlessly on BS4 fuel as well. So, people buying the BS6 variant need not worry about the non-availability of BS6 fuel. Making the Activa 125 BS6 compliant has resulted in a price increase of about Rs. 2,500, which is less than a 5 % hike. This hike is largely due to the addition of fuel injection, which replaces the carburetor. Going forward, all BS6 two wheelers from Honda sold in India will be fuel injected. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, launched the scooter along with the CEO of HMSI. In the coming months, expect the entire line up of Honda two wheelers sold in India to become BS6 compliant, well ahead of the April 2020 deadline.

Honda Activa 125 Bs6

The BS6 Honda Activa 125 has been launched in three variants: Standard, Alloy and Deluxe. While the Standard is priced at Rs. 67,490, ex-showroom Delhi, the Alloy and Deluxe variants are priced at Rs. 70,990 and Rs. 74,490, respectively. The 125cc single cylinder four stroke engine of the Activa 125 gets fuel injection, and now makes 8.1 Bhp, which is a marginal reduction in peak power from 8.52 Bhp that the same engine with carburation makes on the Activa 125 BS4. Higher fuel efficiency is likely although Honda is yet to reveal actual ARAI certified fuel efficiency of the BS6 variant. The gearbox is a CVT automatic unit that has been carried over from the BS4 model.  The automatic scooter gets a bunch of feature additions. The starter system is now said to be ‘noiseless’ while there’s a new idle-stop system that has been added to further maximise fuel efficiency and cut down on tail pipe emissions.

The instrument cluster sees a big revision, and is now a digi-analog unit that displays real-time fuel efficiency and range information. There is a side-stand-down indicator, a front glove box and an external fuel-filler cap. In terms of cosmetic changes, the BS6 Honda Activa 125 gets a minor makeover with a revised LED headlamp, chrome trim on the front end and sides, and also a new apron up front. The scooter rides on tubeless tyres, and uses telescopic front forks and a monoshock rear suspension. It’s aimed at both men and women who seek a comfortable, reliable and fuel efficient automatic scooter for use mainly on city streets. Other major selling points of the Honda Activa line-up as a whole are great resale value and low maintenance costs. The Activa is India’s best selling automatic scooter.

There is a long waiting period on the Hector and even the manufacturer is offering freebies to the customers waiting for the vehicle to arrive in their garage. Nonetheless, there are a lot of customers who have already received the MG Hector SUV. In a few cases, the customers are even selling their vehicles in the used car market, of course, for a profit. This MG Hector from Ludhiana, Punjab is up for sale and the owner is asking of a massive Rs 5 lakh premium for the vehicle.

Mg Hector 3

The advertisement of the vehicle, which is posted on Droom is a Super variant and gets powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. It is a manual version. Mg Hector 2

Nonetheless, there are many who have received the delivery of their MG Hector and are selling it in the market at a more premium price. This allows the customers to buy the car without actually waiting for the vehicle. However, it will be a second-hand vehicle, which may affect the vehicle’s value in the used car market down the few years.

Big bad SUVs have always been quite popular in the Indian market. While the prices of the full-size SUV vehicles are extremely expensive, there are many examples available in the used car market, which are cheaper than the sub-4m compact SUVs like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Here is one such example and the vehicle on sale is a Mitsubishi Pajero, one of the toughest SUVs available in the Indian market. It is for sale and the asking price is lower than a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

Pajero 2

This is a 2013 Mitsubishi Pajero driven by a single owner. The Pajero seen here gets the 4X4 system, which makes it much more capable than any other sub-4m compact SUV. Any other vehicle in the segment including the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is not available with a 4X4 system.

Pajero 1

The vehicle registered 6 years ago has done around 60,000 km according to the odometer. As per the advertisement on Facebook Marketplace, the vehicle is extremely well-maintained. The price of a new Pajero 4X4 manual is currently Rs 35.5 lakhs and the sub Rs 10 lakh price for this used model is extremely lucrative. The person selling the SUV is also offering one free period service for the vehicle. Also, the manufacturer warranty is not valid anymore on the vehicle. Hence, there will be a 6 months warranty provided to the customers for the engine. The warranty is only under standard driving conditions.

Pajero 3

The vehicle is available in Mumbai, Maharashtra. However, if needed, the seller also offers RTO transfer work all through India. The car can be inspected by the prospective customers too and it is parked at F-177 Fantasia Business Park, Sector 30, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. You can also contact the seller directly by calling +91-9137025229. Customers can also buy using credit cards and can take personal loans to buy the car.

Pajero 4

From the pictures, the vehicle’s exterior condition looks extremely good and there are no scratches on the body of the vehicle. Only the headlamp lens seems to have fogged over time but that can be fixed using any affordable methods.

Pajero 5

The vehicle is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine option that produces a maximum power of 176 Bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. It gets a 5 speed manual transmission, which offers greater control over the vehicle. The Pajero 4X4 is extremely capable and it can do a lot of off-road challenges. The Mitsubishi Pajero is a seven-seater vehicle and it gets all the bells and whistles. There are features like the infotainment system, automatic climate control, and cruise control system in place. 5th generation Honda City SPIED testing in India ahead of 2020 Auto Expo unveil

$

The Honda City sedan, by far, has been the Japanese automaker’s most successful car in the Indian market. The City sedan has been a best seller across four generations and the fifth generation model is all set to arrive in 2020. Honda has begun testing the next-generation City sedan on Indian roads, and here are a bunch of spyshots of the new car. The 5th-gen Honda City will be launched in India next year, and is likely to be showcased at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, scheduled for February next year. The new car is expected to get a totally fresh design, inside-out. It could get slightly larger, both on the outside and inside. A higher price tag is another bit that’s likely given the fact that Honda has been consistently taking the City up the ladder in terms of premium-ness and the feature set on offer.

2020 Honda City Sedan Spyshot 1

Spyshots courtesy Team-BHP

The all-new Honda City will motor on with the 1.5 liter i-DTEC turbocharged diesel engine that will be made Bharat Stage (BS6) 6 emission norms compliant.  This engine is likely to be offered with 6 speed manual and CVT automatic gearbox options. It’ll be the first instance of Honda offering a automatic gearbox in a diesel powered City sedan.

A big change will come to the 1.5 liter petrol engine as well, which is tipped to be accompanied by a mild hybrid. The i-VTEC petrol engine is likely to become a lot more fuel efficient. 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes are likely. The 2020 City will continue to square off against the likes of the Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna in the C-Segment sedan category. Pricing and variant details will be revealed closer to launch. Trial production is expected to commence by the end of 2020.

2020 Honda City Sedan Spyshot 2

In design terms, the 2020 Honda City is expected to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The car is expected to be positioned as a logical upgrade to compact sedan owners. Even current owners of the City may be interested in upgrading to the new car, and this is another reason why Honda is likely to maintain a continuity in design terms.

Next Gen Honda City 1

Sure, it’ll be modern and in a sense, a mini-Civic, but don’t expect a dramatic change in the shape or the sleekness quotient of the car. LED headlamps, leather seats, a sunroof, automatic climate control, headlamps and wipers, a touchscreen infotainment system and a power adjustable driver’s seat are key features likely on the new car. As for safety, expect a full complement of 6 airbags, ABS, traction control, hill hold, speed alerts, a reverse parking camera and more to be on offer.

Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new Ertiga in the Indian market last year. The car has already become the top-selling MUV in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki, for the time ever, offered Smart Hybrid system with the petrol engine-powered Ertiga. Well, while the popularity of the Ertiga still seems to be growing in the market, here is an example, which is up for sale in the used car market and it is almost in a brand new condition with a hefty discount.

Ertiga 1

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga for sale here was registered in February 2019, which makes it only a few months older. The asking price is only Rs 8.2 lakh, which makes it much cheaper than the new version. Just to compare, a brand-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga petrol SHVS will cost around Rs 9.54 lakh. This makes the car almost Rs 1.5 lakh cheaper than a brand-new vehicle’s on-road cost. This is the VXI version, which is the mid-level variant of the Ertiga. According to the advertisement put on Facebook Marketplace, the vehicle has done only 1,300 km according to the odometer. The post also says that no work has been done on the vehicle. Since it is only a few months older, the OEM warranty on the vehicle is still intact, which will be a huge benefit for the new owner. Also, there will be a few free services that the customers will be able to use them after buying the vehicle. In the pictures, we can see that there are no scratches or dents on the vehicle and it is spotless. The exact reason for selling the vehicle is not known though.

Ertiga 4

The Ertiga gets the brand-new 1.5-litre petrol engine, which entered the Indian market with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. It has been developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki and it produces a maximum power of 104 Bhp and peak torque of 138 Nm. It is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic torque converter transmission. With the SHVS system in place, the manual version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga SHVS petrol returns a maximum of 19.34 km/l, which is a lot for a 7-seater petrol vehicle.

Ertiga 3

The mid-level VXI variant, which is up for sale here gets features like rear AC vents, remote keyless entry, body-coloured handles and outside rearview mirrors, turn indicators integrated to the wing mirrors, wheel caps for the 15-inch steel wheels, 12V dedicated charging sockets in the first and the second row, day/night rearview mirror, electronically adjustable and folding wing mirrors, four speakers, infotainment system with USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity and steering-mounted controls for the audio and telephone. The vehicle also gets Dual front airbags, ABS+EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, speed-sensing door locks and rear parking sensors.

Volkswagen T-Cross compact SUV all set to make Auto Expo 2020 debut

$

0

Volkswagen India will unveil the India-spec T-Cross compact SUV at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo scheduled for February next year. The India-spec T-Cross will have specific bits that will make it different from the global version including styling that’s blingier. The Hyundai Creta rival from Volkswagen is expected to get a lot of chrome when compared to the global version. ACI reports that it could have a revised suspension set up tuned to handle the rougher roads of India while the wheelbase will be stretched by 100 mm to make it a more spacious 5 seater. The vehicle will be built on the MQB A0 platform, at Volkswagen’s Chakan factory off Pune. It will be a five seater and front wheel driven. There will be no diesel engine on offer, and Volkswagen will instead offer powerful turbocharged petrol engines across the range. 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearboxes are likely to be on offer with the new SUV.

Volkswagen T Cross 2019 1280 01

The 1 liter-3 cylinder turbo petrol engine is likely to be offered in 115 Bhp-200 Nm state of tune, which should give the SUV enough pep to keep up with both petrol and diesel powered competition. A more powerful 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged petrol with 128 Bhp-200 Nm is expected to a part of the variant mix as well. Also, a CNG-Petrol dual fuel option could be offered in future, at least in specific parts of India where CNG dispensing infrastructure is well established.

Initially though, expect the T-Cross to be sold as a petrol-only SUV, aimed mainly at city buyers given Volkswagen’s minimal presence in semi-urban and rural parts of India. The T-Cross’ market launch is expected to happen by the end of 2020 or early 2021. It will have a Skoda-badged sibling known as the Kamiq, which will share most parts with the T-Cross expect for the styling and interior design.

Volkswagen T Cross 2019 1280 0d

In fact, Volkswagen has tasked Skoda India with the MQB A0 platform’s localization. The T-Cross is likely to have a lot of local content to push down costs. In terms of pricing, a starting price close to Rs. 10 lakhs is likely. The T-Cross from Volkswagen and Kamiq from Skoda will be the first affordable SUVs from both brands for the Indian market, and a lot is riding on these SUVs. Expect high quality levels inside out, and also a sturdy build. These could be the biggest selling points for the T-Cross and Kamiq. The Skoda SUV is likely to precede the one from Volkswagen in terms of the Indian launch. Expect to also see the Kamiq at the Auto Expo of 2020.

The Triber compact MPV has just outsold the much cheaper Kwid hatchback in its very first month of launch, and has become the best selling Renault car in India. The French automaker dispatched 2,490 units of the Triber to dealer stockyards across India while dispatching only 2,090 units of the Kwid. These sales numbers are among the lowest ever for the Kwid, which has seen a massive sales slide to coincide with the big slowdown that the Indian car industry is currently facing. The Kwid could bounce back this month though as a facelifted version is weeks away from launch. Given the fact that the launch of the facelifted Kwid will happen right in the middle of the festive season, we expect Renault to stuff inventory with the new model, and the Triber’s run as the automaker’s best selling car could be a short lived phenomenon.

The Triber was launched late last month as Renault’s first sub-4 meter 7 seat car. It’s a compact MPV with aggressive styling that gives it a crossover-ish stance. Even on the road, the Triber looks more like a crossover than a MPV. It shares its platform with the Kwid, which has given Renault the ability to price it very competitively.

At a starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakhs, the Renault Triber is one of the cheapest 7 seat cars that money can buy in India, slightly pricier than the likes of the Maruti Eeco and the Datsun Go Plus. The compact MPV shares its mechanical attributes with the Kwid. It’s powered by the 1 liter-3 cylinder petrol engine that puts out 72 Bhp-96 Nm, outputs that are slightly higher than those on the Kwid. This engine drives the front wheels through a 5 speed manual gearbox.

Early next year. Renault will introduce a 5 speed AMT option on the Triber. Currently, the compact MPV is available in for trims: RXE, RXS, RXT and RXZ. Its 7 seat layout is the biggest selling point. The seating layout is quite flexible, in that it can be configured to seat 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 people. This gives the Triber tremendous flexibility in terms of carrying people and luggage.

Renault has aimed the compact MPV at younger buyers who want a high ground clearance, versatile people mover. The funky styling, digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, are all features meant to appeal to younger buyers. In terms of safety, ABS, twin airbags, seat belt reminders, reverse parking sensors and a ISOFIX child seat mounts are standard on the Triber. Bookings are now open across all Renault dealerships. Test drives and deliveries are already on.

Honda Brio: Used Car Buyers’ Guide

$
0
0

Honda’s little hatchback made it’s Indian debut in September 2011 and instantly became popular for its fun-to-drive nature. For most enthusiasts, this was a big go-kart on bigger wheels, one that could provide enough fun and yet had space for four adults, ease of driving and Honda’s brand appeal.

However, given that size does matter for Indian car buyers, the Brio never really took for Honda in terms of sales. It remained a car for niche audience and very few understood the package it delivered. Unfortunately, Honda had to discontinue the model in February 2019 and though it got major updates internationally, Honda has no plans to bring it.

Brief history of the Honda Brio in India

Honda Brio Generations

The Honda Brio was launched in September 2011 and has always been offered with a 1.2-litre petrol unit only. An automatic was introduced in October 2012 and this 5-speed unit was superior to most other automatic hatchbacks sold at the time.

In October 2013, an exclusive edition was introduced but it failed to revive the sales. October 2016 saw the introduction of a proper facelift that also gave the cabin a proper, full makeover. The Brio lost it chic appeal and looked grown up and mature. Poor market demand finally saw Honda pulling the plug in Feb 2019. This also means the resale value of the Brio is extremely low.

Honda Brio: Typical New Car Buyer Profile

The Honda Brio was a niche car. It wasn’t your run of the mill mid-size hatchback that could tick off all the right boxes for typical customers. Most Brio owners were well informed and enthusiasts who had a liking for the brand and wanted to own a model of the same family. Given the average cabin space and a small boot, the Brio was preferred by young couples or those with a micro family with little kids.

The automatic Brio was a hit with the fairer sex due its ease of driving. The chic design and easy to live with cabin also scored high marks for such owners.

Honda Brio: Typical Used Car Buyer Profile

A used Honda Brio, thanks to a low resale value is an enthusiast’s delight. The 88 bhp 1.2-litre petrol motor loves being revved to its limits and in the process does a 0-100 dash in less than 13 seconds. Outright performance and handling is its forte. This is the reason why anyone looking at a hatchback thats thrilling to drive and yet has the appeal of a brand like Honda ends up looking at the Brio. We aren’t talking about customers who want space, fuel economy or features here. Like the audience of a new Brio, even used Brio has its own niche set of buyers.

Key positives Of the Honda Brio hatchback

The Honda Brio was a hoot to drive in the right hands. Past 3,500 rpm, the engine was a screamer and delivered great performance thanks to its i-VTEC tech. The optional 5-speed automatic (torque converter) was superior to the low cost AMTs and made the Brio a good urban tool. And contrary to its small external dimensions, the Brio offered good space for four large adults.
Another area where the Brio scored high marks was in the ease of driving thanks to light controls and good visibility all around.

Key negatives of the Honda Brio hatchback

Unfortunately, for a typical Indian car buyer, the Brio suffered from multiple shortcomings. This included the lack of a diesel engine, poor low-end punch from the free revving petrol motor, lack of space and a very small boot.

Likewise, in terms of external dimensions, most others cars in the same price band offered a higher street cred. Lastly, an exhaustive feature is something that the Brio did not offer and this lowered its appeal further.

The ideal Honda Brio one can buy in the used car market

Honda Brio Used Car Photo 2

Look for a post October 2016 model or the facelift Honda Brio. This looks far better in and out and came with extra dose of premium-ness. If you are in the market for an automatic hatchback, consider this one seriously as its 5-speed torque converter is way better than the low cost AMTs.

A 2016 or 2017 model should be available with less than 40,000 km on the odometer as the Brio is more of an urban car and will rarely see the highway or long weekend drives.

Buying Older and Newer Honda Brio Used Car

Honda sold the Brio for just under 8 years in India. This means the market has used Brio example from as early as 2011. But we say ignore the earlier models as they will be prone to suspension issues and will feel dated.

Though sales starting declining within years of its introduction, there are still a lot of good, less used Honda Brio hatchbacks out in the pre owned market and this is primarily due to the fact that its demand is poor. Owners are willing to part ways with it but there are hardly any takers.

Honda Brio: For the Enthusiast?

The Honda Brio has always been offered with a 1.2 litre, 88 bhp petrol engine and this is the same unit that powers the Jazz too. In the (much) lighter Brio, it offers excellent outright performance. With easy availability of after marker performance add-ons from various South East Asian markets, the Brio can be modified into a very desirable and enjoyable little hatchback.

Buying Advice

What you should check, and typical problems for the Honda Brio

Honda Brio Used Car Photo 1

The Honda Brio is a trouble free little hatchback. In fact, it has won awards time and again when it comes to the quality of the product. For example, according to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2012 India Initial Quality StudySM (IQS), the Brio ranked the highest in the premium compact car segment. Likewise in the 2016 J.D. Power India Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS), Brio topped the upper compact hatchback segment.

That said, Honda did issue a few recalls including:

1) Non-ABS Brio models made between Feb’13 and Jan’14: Check for the proportioning valve that is part of the car’s brake system.
2) Brio models made till July’14: to check for incorrect assembly of the baffle plate in the inflator system of the Airbags.

So if you do narrow down a used Brio that was made in the above mentioned time period, make sure the car was take to a Honda outlet for the issue to be looked into.

Apart from this, regular routine maintenance is all that this car requires to be in good shape.

Used Honda brio hatchback: Typical maintenance issues and problems explained

As we said, the Brio is largely a trouble free car and you need to make sure the used example you are purchasing has not been a part of any recall. Older used models might be prone to poor suspension but apart from this, ensure the owner has proper service history records of the vehicle.

Used Honda Brio: Expected service costs

Here is a quick look at the cost of service of the Brio at an authorised Honda workshop. Do note, this will not include cost of spare parts.
40,000 km service: Rs 4,571
50,000 km service: Rs 3,152
60,000 km service: Rs 4,852

As you can see, routine service isn’t too expensive which further makes a used Honda Brio a good and exciting little hatchback to own.

Used Hona Brio: Expected real-world mileage (fuel economy)

When the Brio was launched in 2011, it was the most fuel-efficient petrol hatchback in the market. However, with time, rivals came with cars that offered a higher fuel economy. That said, if driven with a light right foot, in city usage, this will deliver about 12-13 kmpl if the higher gears are used. On open roads at 85-90 km/h, the Brio should go about 18-19 km on every litre of fuel.

Maintenance and service tips for Honda Brio used hatchback car

As the Honda Brio did not sell in huge numbers, we are sure most neighbourhood garages will not have spare parts or the right lubes in stock. Also, given the relatively low service charges, it makes even more sense to stick to authorized Honda workshops for both routine maintenance and part replacements.

Honda Brio Used Car: What to avoid

There isn’t any particular variant to avoid as such, as mechanically, the Brio has remained same as always. The same engine, gearbox and suspension components have always been carried forward without any changes. So there isn’t a particular model you should keep away from – apart from the ones that were part of a recall. Do make sure these models were attended to at the dealership levels for rectification, if any.

Ideally, go for the facelifted Honda Brio model that was launched in 2016 as it looks better in and out. The model also got additional features including a climate control and has a better cabin feel to it. The higher VX trim is good in terms of features too. Both manual and automatic transmissions are equally good, we say.

Our recommendations

As discussed earlier, a post 2016 model is recommended and opt for the S(O) or VX trims that offer both ABS and dual Airbags. For such a model, , expect to pay around Rs 3.5 to 4 lakh, post negotiations.

What Alternatives

An alternative to a used Honda Brio is a used Ford Figo. It offers more space, a better ride and as well the diesel option. It handles better too we say!

A used Maruti Ritz, again a discontinued hatch and hence low resale value is another alternative. Keep away from high mileage (kilometers run) models though.

If you seek comfort and ease of driving, look at a used Hyundai Grand i10 too. It is a genuine all-rounder mid-size hatchback in the market.

Launched in January 2019, the Tata Harrier became a popular car soon after its launch in the Indian market. The all-new SUV takes on the likes of newly launched MG Hector and Mahindra XUV500 in the market. The Tata Harrier’s most popular variant in the market is the XZ variant and there are quite a handful of Harrier SUVs available in the used car market too. Here is an almost new Tata Harrier from Anand, Gujarat, which is on sale and the asking price is much lower than a brand-new model of the Harrier. The asking price of the vehicle is just Rs 17.61 lakhs, which makes it around Rs 1.5 lakh cheaper than the on-road price of the new model.

Tata Harrier 4

This model put up for sale is located in Anand, Gujarat. The SUV is in showroom condition and it has only done around 3,500 km according to the advertisement posted on Droom website. The vehicle is in Calisto Copper colour, which is also the flagship colour of the brand. As per the ad, the SUV is still with the first owner. However, the real reason for selling the vehicle so early is not known. The Harrier, for sale, will come with all the details including the invoice copy and service records.

Tata Harrier 1

Since this is a hardly used vehicle, it comes with a lot of benefits. For example, the manufacturer warranty will still remain intact when the vehicle is sold. The new owner can even extend the warranty of the vehicle as per need. Also, there is no need to pay insurance for at least two years since the Indian government has now made it mandatory to get an initial insurance policy for two years.

Tata Harrier 2

Since it is the top-end version of the Tata Harrier, it comes loaded with all the features. The vehicle comes powered by a single engine option and gets a single transmission option. The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre KRYOTEC engine option, which is a rebadged version of the Fiat’s Multijet diesel engine. It is the same engine that also powers the Jeep Compass and the MG Hector in the Indian market. However, Tata has re-tuned the engine to suit the Harrier. The engine produces a maximum power of 140 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual transmission option.

Tata Harrier 3

The top-end variant of the Tata Harrier gets features like a touchscreen instrument cluster with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, cruise control system, LED DRL, LED tail lamps, projector headlamps, drive modes, 14-function ESP, engine modes and more such features. The Tata Harrier XZ gets six airbags, which makes it quite safe.

Why has Ambani bought a Tesla Model S second hand? We explain!

$
0
0

Mukesh Ambani, the richest businessman in India has a garage that can envy most car enthusiasts in the country. Almost all the modern exotics like the Rolls Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga are a part of the Ambani’s garage. However, that’s not all. The Ambani family also owns a Tesla Model S 100D.  The car owned by the Ambani family is a ‘second-hand’ Tesla! Yes, you read that right. We’ll explain how, and why.

Tesla Ambani

The vehicle was spotted by Nirmeet Patil in Mumbai recently. The details of the vehicle that we pulled online show that the Tesla Model S100D is registered to the “RELIANCE INDUSTRIES LTD”. However, it also mentions that Reliance Industries Ltd is the second owner of the vehicle. How is that possible? Well, it’s simple. Since it is an imported vehicle, it first gets registered in the name of the importer.

For example, if you are privately importing a vehicle and doing all the legwork and documents by yourself, the vehicle will be imported in your name. It requires a lot of running around but will save you some money. Unsurprisingly, “super-rich” people do not have the time to do much of running around. This is why they go through a car importer, who will do all the legwork and documentation for you in exchange for a fee.

Ambani 1

If you choose the second method to import a new vehicle from overseas, it will first get registered in the name of the company that imports it. So the vehicle first gets registered in the name of the company that imports it and then it gets transferred to the name of the owners who paid for the vehicle. This is the way most of the car imports work in India.

In fact, even cars like McLaren, which is not sold in India officially are imported in the same way and the real buyers are officially the second owners on the registration paper. While the number of owners matters a lot when it comes to the value of a vehicle in the used car market, it would not matter so much when it comes to exotic vehicles.

The Tesla Model S 100D is an extremely powerful set of wheels. The electric motors powering the vehicle generates a maximum of 423 PS of power and a massive 660 Nm. The power goes to all the wheels and it can do the 0-100 km/h dash in just 4.3 seconds. The Models S 100D can reach an electronically limited tops-speed of 250 km/h while it returns a maximum of 495 km on a single full charge.

It gets a 100 kWh battery and using a fast charger, it can be charged in just 42 mins for a range of 396 km. In the USA, the car costs $99,990, which translates into around Rs 73 lakhs. After importing the vehicle in India, and paying the import tax of more than 100%, it would cost somewhere around Rs 1.5 crores. This does not include the registration cost and insurance. Since it is an EV, it is quite possible that no money was spent on the registration due to the new government policy to promote the EV vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki official disagrees with Nirmala Sitharaman: Car sales slowdown NOT due to Uber/Ola

$
0
0

A top Maruti Suzuki executive has come out against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s recent statements  that the massive car sales slump in India has to do with the proliferation of App-based cab services such as Ola and Uber. Refuting what Ms. Sitharaman had to say about the sales slowdown, here’s what Shashank Srivastava, the Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) at Maruti Suzuki had to say,

Uber Ola

The ownership pattern in India still has not changed and people purchase cars with an aspirational aspect. The Ola and Uber factor may not be strong to contribute to the current state of slowdown. Ola and Uber came into existence during last 6-7 years. In this period, the auto industry also saw some of its best times. So, what happened only during last few months that the downturn became so severe? I do not think it is only because of Ola and Uber. In India, 46 per cent of the car buyers are first time users. It is an aspirational behaviour. People may use public transport like Ola and Uber to go to offices on weekdays, but still they buy a vehicle for the weekend outings with the family.

Both the Indian auto industry and auto component manufacturers are now waiting for the GST council meeting on the 20th of September, 2019, with hopes that the GST council that includes voting members from both the central and state governments, cut the rate of GST on vehicles and auto parts from the prevailing 28 % to 18 %. This cut, is what the industry says will boost sentiment and sales in the short term. The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been non committal about any GST cut, saying that it would be the collective decision of the GST council.

Many states are said to have reservations about the GST rate cut on vehicles and auto parts as such a cut would directly impact their revenues. In fact, the GST fitment committee, which is responsible for calculating estimated revenues, has warned against such a rate cut. The fitment committee has noted that any GST cut on vehicles and auto parts would result in a revenue shortfall of Rs. 50,000 crores. Kerala’s finance minister Thomas Issac has commented that he’s not in favour of a GST rate and that the central government may cut cess instead if it intends to give the auto industry some relief.

While most players in the auto industry and the auto components sector have been pushing for a GST rate cut, Maruti Suzuki’s chairman RC Bhargava has taken a contrarian view on this subject. He’s noted that any temporary cut in GST will not help and that a lot more needs to be done to fix the issues that have caused the current sales slowdown in the auto sector.
